    Union native
    Bertie Aileen Vaughan Vaughan, 90, formerly of 133 Vaughan Rd., Union, widow at Christopher Columbus "C.C." Vaughan, died 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004 in Oakmont Nursing Home.
    Mrs. Vaughan was born in Union on May 4, 1914, a daughter of the late James Policer Vaughan and Belle Nance Vaughan. She was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.
    Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Thomas Bobo, Joyce and Twig Adams and Rita and Timmy Dean Sanders, all of Union; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sue Vaughan, Gerald and Barbara Vaughan, and Chris and Pam Vaughan, all of Union; two sisters, Fannie "Katie" Vaughan of Union and Pearl V. Johnson of Lockhart; 13 grandchildren, 18 greatgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Vaughan was predeceased by a son, Floyd Vaughan, a grandson, Ricky Vaughan, a granddaughter, Pam A. Gregory; five sisters and three brothers.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Lee and the Rev. Matt Williamson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be Matthew Gregory, Jesse Gregory, Ronnie Craig, Jonathan Mize, Adam Mize and Cory Vaughan.
    The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in church at 1 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.
    The family is at the home of her daughter, Joyce and Twig Adams, 820 Brown’s Creek Church Road, Union.

Lillian J. Bentley     Retired from Graham Cash Co.     Lillian Jolly Bentley, 82, of 109 James St., Union, widow of William V. Bentley, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.     Mrs. Bentley was born in Union, Dec. 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Milton H. Jolly Sr. and Mattie Irene Young Jolly. She was a graduate of Union High School Class of 1939 and retired from Graham Cash Co. in Union. Mrs. Bentley was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.     Surviving are two sisters, Nell J. Crawford of Salem Crossroads and Margaret J. Gregory of Del Ray Beach, Fla., a brother, C.B. Jolly of Union; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bentley was predeceased by six brothers and four sisters.     Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Haney Cemetery by the Rev. Larry Padgett and the Rev. Tina Frost     Certified Nursing Assistant     Tina Marie Rhinehart Frost, 35, of 191 Pasture Drive, Union, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 11:12 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.     Mrs. Frost was born in Woodruff July 2, 1969, a daughter of George and Judy Heatherly Adams of the home. She was of the Baptist faith and was formerly employed as a CNA with the Charles Brady Center in Pacolet.     Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Ronnie Clay Frost; a daughter, Tonya Marie Luther of the home; a son, Christopher Dennis Luther of Bowling Green, Ky., a sister, Linda Gail Adams of the home; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George Jonathan Adams of the home, Joseph Welton Adams and wife Amanda Adams and George Kenneth Adams, Jr. and wife Mandy Adams all of Union; her maternal grandmother, Marie Heatherly of the home; a special aunt and dear friend, Linda Williams of Union and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.     Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the S.R. He was retired from the U.S. Army having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Mr. Millwood was also retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant.     Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Millwood and Susan Millwood, both of the home; an adoptive daughter, Priss Bright of the home; a sister, Emma Jean Miller of Chantilly, Va.,and two brothers, Frank Millwood of Union and Henry T. Main St., Union, died Tuesday morning Nov. 2, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.     Mr. Whitmire was born in Union, July 8, 1935, a son of the late John Gary and Bertha Whitmire. He was retired from Conso Products and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Whitmire attended Westside Baptist Church and was formerly a mason and Shriner.     Surviving are three daughters, Bobbi Dean Oates of Peachtree City, Ga., Allison Jordan of New York and Brittany Whitmire of the home; a son, John Whitmire of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Josh Oates, Christy Oates, Brooke Whitmire and John Whitmire III; and a great-granddaughter, Kirsten Oates.     Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. UNION, SC Mr. Robert Smith Adams, Jr., 77, of 205 Bennett Street, Union, husband of Doris Williams Adams, died at his residence Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:25 a.m.

Mr. Adams was born in Union on June 29, 1927, a son of the late Robert Smith Adams, Sr. and Thelma Lawson Adams. He was a member of the Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher. Mr. Adams was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and was retired from Torrington Company-Tyger River Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Ellen Adams, of Marion; five sisters, Pearl Farr, Marian Alexander, Betty Inman and Mary Ann Adams, all of Union and Bobbie Ruth Snyder, of Buffalo; a brother, Eugene Adams, of Union, two grandchildren, Robert Scott Adams and Christy Smith and husband Casey; and two great-grandsons, Jonathan Smith and Cody Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Dale Lynch. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Ralph Stepp

UNION, SC Mr. Willie Ralph PaPa Stepp, 74, of 115 Stepp Road, Union, husband of Betty Jo Hodge Stepp, died at his residence Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at 3:15 p.m. after an extended illness.

Mr. Stepp was born in Union on May 16, 1930, a son of the late Ray and Pauline Willard Stepp. He was a member of the Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Stepp was a graduate of Union High School, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from United Merchants. He was an avid gardener and loved his children and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Brenda Joyce Lawson, of Buffalo and Rita Elaine Hamm, of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Mary Scales, of Union and Beatrice Vaughn, of North Augusta; a brother, Richard Stepp, of North Augusta; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at Fairforest Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Aulbrey Calvert and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Friday night from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. and will be placed in church at 12:00 Noon Saturday to await the hour of service.

Frances Riddle Kingsmore

BUFFALO, SC-- Mrs. Frances Riddle Kingsmore, 83, wife of Leslie E. Les Kingsmore, of 1611 Main Street, Buffalo, died Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Kingsmore was born in the Friendship Community of Spartanburg, February 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Faber and Millie Smith Riddle. She was a graduate of Union High School and Kellers Beauty College. She was a retired Cosmetologist, having formerly worked with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mrs. Kingsmore was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and secretary of the Junior Department Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are three daughters and their husbands, Charlotte K. and Larry Parks of Union, Sybil K. and Phillip Blackwell of Mauldin, and Susan K. and Gary Pegram of Buffalo; three sisters, Margaret R. Gowan of Union, Ruby R. Gregory and Braddie R. Rice, both of Buffalo; one brother, Faber Riddle of High Point, NC; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kingsmore was predeceased by a son, John L. Kingsmore and an infant daughter, Kaye Frances Kingsmore.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. Monday to await the hour of service.

UNION, SC Mrs. Comilla Bill Cooper Phillips, 85, formerly of Union, widow of S. T. Phillips, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in Skylyn Place Health Center in Spartanburg, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Union on May 24, 1919, a daughter of the late John W. Cooper, Sr. and Nettie Crow Cooper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from Graham Cash Company.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Phillips, of Richmond, Virginia; two grandsons, Tom G. Small, III and David Taylor Small; a special niece, Donna Cooper Plexico, of Wilkesboro, NC; and several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Union Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory.

Marshall L. Hodge

UNION, SC Mr. Marshall Lee Hodge, 64, of 352 Fairwood Boulevard, Union, husband of Linda Fowler Hodge, died at his residence Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 11:20 p.m. after an extended illness.

Mr. Hodge was born in Jonesville on May 3, 1940, a son of the late Arthur William Hodge and Mary Rochester Hodge. He was formerly employed with Milliken and Company and was retired Tax Assessor for the Union County Tax Assessors Office. Mr. Hodge was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, life-time member of Union Masonic Lodge #75, member of the Union County Amateur Radio Club, founding member of the Minutemen Rescue Squad, founding board member of Another Way Childrens Home and was a Union County Red Cross Volunteer Instructor in First Aide and CPR. Mr. Hodge was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Spartanburg Technical College and was a U.S. Army Veteran with the Missile Battalion stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter and her husband, Brandi and Greg Harvey, of Union; a son and his wife, Tony and Beverly Hodge, of Gaffney; his mother-in-law, Edyth Fowler Sanlin, of Union; a brother and his wife, William James and Jo Hodge, of North Augusta; a sister-in-law, Pearl I. Hodge, of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Drew Harvey, Alex Harvey, Bethany Hodge, Matthew Cash, and Casey Cash; and special friends, Roger and Kathy Gregory, Pat and Gloria Patterson, Dee and Ken Gregory and Darrell and Dorcas Waters. Mr. Hodge was predeceased by an infant son, William McSwain Hodge and a brother, Hames Ray Hodge.

Dorothy Joan Pike Guyton Charles

Mrs. Dorothy Joan Pike Guyton Charles, 87, widow of John W. Jack Charles, of 312 Skyline Road, Greer, SC, died at her home Saturday, November 6, 2004 after a long illness.

Mrs. Charles was born December 22, 1916, in Yeovil, England, a daughter of the late Albert and Lottie Florence Shire Pike. She was retired from I. From Co., and a member of the First Baptist Church in Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Charles, of Greer; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kellie Hart Inman and Scott Ray Inman; and their children, Taylor Rae Inman, Logan Brooke Inman, all of Boiling Springs, Kristy Hart Nichols and husband Jimmy Lee Nichols; and their children, Alexandra Nichole Nichols, Jimmy Lee Seth Nichols and Ethan Graham Nichols, all of Fountain Inn.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, at Rosemont Cemetery, by Chaplain Gary Pindroh. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside services.

Gene Arthur

UNION, SC Mr. Harold Eugene Gene Arthur, 76, died peacefully at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg, Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 2:39 p.m., following a long period of declining health. He will be with his Lord and his wife, the late Joyce Morris Arthur, on her birthday, November 11, 2004.

He was a Christian man, who was loved dearly by his family and friends. Mr. Arthur was born in Union on May 14, 1928, a son of the late Paul Wilson Arthur and Kate Shetley Arthur. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Gary Arthur. Mr. Arthur worked most of his life in textiles and was and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church of Union.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Melinda and James Magarahan, of Surfside Beach and Beverly and Ronald James, of Union; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Emory and Rev. Ralph Lawson, who were both dear friends. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Beverly and Ronald James, 795 Deepwater Road, Union.

UNION, SC Mr. Woodrow Wilson Plexico, 87, husband of Hazel Estes Plexico, of 1008 South Pinckney Street, Union, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 1:50 p.m., after an extended illness.

Mr. Plexico was born in Union on March 5, 1917, a son of the late James and Effie Marie Horne Plexico. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mr. Plexico was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Palmer Oil Co.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter and her husband, Rita and Bob Gibson, of Greenville; a son and his wife, Curtis and Kathy Plexico, of Union; a sister, Mary Pettit, of Union; three grandchildren, Ashley Plexico, of Greenville and Allen Plexico, of Union and Angela Gibson Camp and her husband Tim, of Greenville. Mr. Plexico was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Burgess and Azalee Jefferies.

Ollie Q. Seay

BUFFALO, SC Mrs. Ollie Ruth Quinn Seay, 80, formerly of Buffalo, widow of Herman L. Seay, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at 4:30 p.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Seay was born in Cherokee Springs, SC on February 22, 1924, a daughter of the late Claude Walker Quinn and Ollie Kimbrell Quinn. She attended Cross Anchor High School and was retired from Union Mill. Mrs. Seay was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth S. Knox and Catherine Seay, both of Buffalo; a son, Donald W. Seay, of Buffalo; three sisters, Myrtle Q. Pruitt, Vera Q. Barfield, and Marie Q. Heatherly, all of Union; a brother, D. L. Quinn, of Union; six grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Seay was predeceased by two sons, Gene L. Seay and Curtis Seay.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Billy T. Ramsey. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Sam Turner

UNION, SC Mr. Samuel O. Sam Turner, 86, husband of Hattie Horne Turner, of 206 Lakeview Heights, Union, died at his residence Thursday morning, November 18, 2004.

Mr. Turner was born in Union on September 19, 1918, a son of the late Robert E. Turner and Sallie Nichols Turner. He was a graduate of Union High School, Spartanburg Methodist College, Wofford College, Class of 1939 and the University of South Carolina. He returned to Union County, where he taught and coached at Kelly Pinckney High School until he was drafted.

Serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, his unit was captured in Germany in December 1944. They were held as Prisoners of War until May, 1945. Following World War II, Mr. Turner remained active in military affairs, he helped re-organize the Union Unit of the South Carolina National Guards. He retired as a Colonel with the National Guards in 1964. Mr. Turner was active in the Piedmont Chapter of the American Ex-POWs, where he served as Chaplain. He was State Commander of Ex-POWs in 1998 and served on the Governors Commission for Ex-POWs. He also served on the Advisory Committee of the Veterans Administration Hospital.

In 1946, Mr. Turner began his career at Union High School, first as a teacher and later as Assistant Principal and then as Principal of Union High School until 1970. He became Superintendent for Secondary Education in Chester County School, where he remained until retirement in 1974.

An active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Mr. Turner was a former member of the Administrative Board and former Treasurer of the church. Mr. Turner had served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and was serving as Historian for the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Sammie Pfister and husband Robert, of Roswell, Georgia; two sons, David Turner and wife Reba, of Santuc and Harold Turner and wife Karen, of Spartanburg; a sister, Betty T. Foster, of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Bethel United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Terry Mitchell and Rev. C. Allen Senn. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with full military rites. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family is at the home, 206 Lakeview Heights, Union.

Franklin D. Black
    Vietnam War veteran
    Franklin Delano Black, 67, husband of Barbara Johnson Black of 998 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, died Sunday Nov. 21, 2004, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
    Mr. Black was born in Union, Sept. 4, 1937, a son of the late Samuel Ross and Belle Knox Black. He was retired after 21 years with the U.S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Black was also employed with Smith Lumber Co. and Unlimited Construction Co. of Union. He attended UNLV and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Black was also a member of the Union Elks Club, the American Legion and the Young At Heart Club.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Carla P. Meredith of Clover; three sons, and daughters-in-law, Derek and Jonell Black of Clinton, James R. and Tami Fowler of Woodruff, Robbie and Paula Howell of Duncan; five sisters, Susie Palmer of Union, Nancy Black, Betty Thompson, Helen Meredith and Elizabeth L. Black, all of Chester; a grandson, Shane Black of Clinton; four granddaughters, Anna, Brooklyn and Rebecca Howell, all of Duncan and Alana Fowler of Woodruff; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Black was predeceased by three brothers, James, Robert, and William Black and a sister, O’Nell Dover.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Fairforest Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert and the Rev. Joseph Stover. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites.
    The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Trip Sheorn, Jerry Harris, Jimmy Harris, Dennis Davis, Chad Vinson, Bob Gist, Willie Harris, Ricky Harris, Paul Peahuff, Louis Jordan Sr., Louis Jordan Jr., and employees of Ace Hardware; Linda Davis, Roy Puckett, L.J. Chaney and W.J. Scales.
    The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. Memorials may be made to the Fairforest Baptist Church, 1917 Jonesville Highway, Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home, 998 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union.

Hovey S. Allen

LOCKHART, SC-- Mr. Hovey S. Allen, 80, husband of Lillian Brank Allen of 4724 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, died Monday, November 22, 2004,at 10:50 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Allen was born in Sharon, SC, on November 12, 1924, a son of the late James and Sara Catherine Odom Allen. He was a Baptist. Mr. Allen was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy and received the Presidential Citation from President Harry S. Truman. He was a retired self-employed building contractor and was also retired from Milliken and Company-Lockhart Plant as General Overseer of the weaving department.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy A. Hyatt and her husband Phil of Spartanburg, and Nan A. Ruppe and her husband Alan of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Tracy Vanderford, Jenna Cabaniss and Colton Cabaniss; one great-grandchild, Sydnie Vanderford. Mr. Allen was predeceased by three brothers, Bob Allen, Thomas Allen and Willie Allen.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am. Wednesday at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill.

The following are asked to assemble at the cemetery Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. to form the honorary escort; Bobby and Sue Harris, Bud and Penny Ellis, Doug and Frances Stewart, Ed and Libby Wilson, Louise Gregory, William Vinson, Boyd Reardon, Gus Poulos and Pete Poulos.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friend Tuesday night from 7-8:30 p.m.

The family is at the home, 4724 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union.

Juanita B. Brown

UNION, SC-- Mrs. Mary Juanita Nita Burnsed Brown of 112 Fant Lane, Union, widow of James Russell Jimmy Brown, Sr., died at her residence on Monday, November 22, 2004, after a battle with cancer.

Mrs. Brown was born in Santuc, SC, a daughter of the late Horace Brooks Burnsed, Sr. and Ruth Boughman Burnsed. She was a graduate of Union High School and acquired additional business courses. She had worked as an executive secretary for Excelsior Woolen Mills of Union, First Baptist Church of Mooresville, NC, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company of Charlotte, NC, Union Academy of Union, and First Presbyterian Church of Union. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Union. She enjoyed sports, especially Clemson football, flowers and gardening, as well as cooking and entertaining were passions of hers. She had her own unique sense of style and was a lover of fashion.

Surviving are two sons, James Russell Brown, Jr. and wife Jacki of Hemby Bridge, NC, and their children, James Russell Brown, III of Stallings, NC, and Corey Parker Brown of Hemby Bridge, NC; Paul Brooks Brown and wife Cathy Killough-Brown of Wesley Chapel, NC, and their daughter, Caroline Killough Brown of Wesley Chapel, NC.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Marvin Hunt and Pastor Jeff Donaldson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Margaret M. Denton

LOCKHART, SC-- Mrs. Margaret Mitchell Denton, 87, formerly of the Lockhart Community, widow of William R. Will Denton, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at 3:30 a.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Denton was born in Batesburg, SC, on November 19, 1917, a daughter of the late Robert Russell Mitchell and Clara Louise Kneece Mitchell. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Gail D. Wise of Columbia; three sons, Richard Denton of Lockhart, R. W. Pete Denton of Columbia, and Tommy Denton of Union; a sister, Lettie M. Wilson of Lockhart; a half-brother, Aldean Mitchell of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren, Renea Fogle, David Denton, Dyanna Spear, Rhett Denton, Whitney Denton, Wofford Wise, Kate Wise and Molly Wise; and one great-grandchild, Kelsey Granger.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Steve Lemons.

The family is at the home of her son, Tommy Denton, 756 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Union, and will receive friends at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church immediately following the graveside service.

Mabel Florice Childers

UNA, SC Mrs. Mabel Dill Florice Childers, 76, wife of Millus Childers, of 1247 Edgewood Avenue, Una, SC, formerly of Lockhart, died Friday, November 26, 2004 at 12:05 a.m. in Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Childers was born in Gaffney, SC on January, 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Pinson Dill and Margaret Isabell Humphries Dill. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Pacolet.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Frances Arlene Atkins, of Rock Hill; a son, Bobby Gene Childers, of Spartanburg; three sisters, Frances Crocker, of Lockhart, Ruth Brannon and Mildred Hope Ashe, both of York; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Childers was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Diane Childers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Bosler. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends Saturday night, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The family is at the home of her son, Bobby Gene Childers, 1251 Edgewood Avenue, Una, SC.

Jeffery G. Parker

PACOLET, SC--  Mr. Jeffery Gene Parker, 23, of 146 April Road, Pacolet, SC, died Saturday, November 27, 2004, from injuries received in a hunting accident.

Mr. Parker was born in Union, on January 9, 1981, a son of Steve Parker and Kathy Millwood Byrd of Pacolet. He was employed in construction and was a member of Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228 of Pacolet.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Kathy and Dennis Byrd of Pacolet; his father and step-mother, Steve and Judy Parker of Pacolet; a daughter, Janis Parker of the home; a special friend, Nicole Locklear of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Shane Sellars of Roebuck; his maternal grandparents, James and Shirley Millwood of Pacolet; his paternal grandparents, Dallas and Gail Parker of Pacolet; his paternal great-grandmother, Ma Messer of Pacolet; and brothers of Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228 of Pacolet.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Pacolet, conducted by Rev. Joel Gardner, Rev. Jason Gardner, Rev. Harold Patton and Rev. Marquis Towns. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be; Mike Burkholder, Eddie Guyton, Mike Burgess, Kenneth Spencer, Wayne Spencer, Bain Parris and Jr. Barners.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort; O. J. Parris, B. J. Harrison, (Bubba) Heath Robertson and Michal Rothrock.

After 11:00 a.m. Monday the body will be at the home of his mother and step-father, Kathy and Dennis Byrd, 1596 Jerusalem Road, Pacolet, where it will remain until the hour of service.

JONESVILLE, SC-- Mrs. Dessie Belle West Horne, 88, formerly of Church Street, Jonesville, widow of Grover Lee Horne, died Monday, November 29, 2004, in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Gilead Baptist Church. Mrs. Horne was the former owner and operator, with her husband, of Hornes Grocery Store in Jonesville.

Surviving are a brother, William J. Bill West of Jonesville.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Joe Stover and Rev. Ralph Brown.

JONESVILLE, SC-- Mr. James E. Jim Kerr, 73, of 310 Alman Street, Jonesville, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at 7:13 a.m. in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care after an extended illness.

Mr. Kerr was born in Jonesville on August 21, 1931, a son of the late Edgar H. Kerr and Louise Strong Kerr. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from The Citadel. Mr. Kerr was a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mitzi K. Caldwell and husband Bobby of Spartanburg; a son, James R. Ronnie Kerr and wife Judy of Jonesville; two sisters, Bernice K. Blackwell and Gladys K. Garrett, both of Spartanburg; two brothers, John Kerr of Spartanburg, and Ernest Shot Kerr of Jonesville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Mitzi K. Caldwell, 1256 Seay Road, Spartanburg, and will receive friends at Holcombes Jonesville Chapel Wednesday night from 7-9:00 p.m.
