SPARTANBURG — Charlie T. Eubanks, 81, husband of Ruby Williams
Eubanks, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Glenn Springs, March 3, 1924, he was the son of the late L o n n i
e T h o m a s Eubanks and Irene Smith Eubanks and brother to Evelyn
McArthur of Glenn Springs and the late Iris Charles.
Mr. Eubanks was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S.
Air Force. He was a member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church and was a
Mason.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Marion C. Eubanks and
his wife, Barbara Eubanks of Glenn Springs and Stanley T. Eubanks of
Spartanburg, who lovingly cared for his father for 17 years; a daughter,
Rita Eubanks of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Lori E. Jolly and her
husband, Benjamin Jolly of Atlanta, Edward T. Eubanks and his wife,
Jennifer D. Eubanks of Moore, W. Chandler Alexander of Glenn Springs,
Morris O. Eubanks and his wife, Stephanie K. Eubanks of Pauline, Charley
T. Eubanks of Spartanburg; four greatgrandchildren, Taylor Diane Eubanks,
John Thomas Eubanks, William Henry Eubanks and Thomas Hill Eubanks.
Mr. Eubanks was predeceased by a son, Marvin O’Neil Eubanks.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Glenn
Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Bob Pettit.
Pallbearers will be Morris Eubanks, Eddie Eubanks, Charley Eubanks,
and W. Chandler Alexander.
The family will receive friends in the Glenn Springs Presbyterian
Church Family Life Center immediately following the graveside service.

Martha Elizabeth Gregory, 77, of 404 S. Church St., Union, passed
away after a short illness Sunday, May 1, 2005, at 8:48 p.m. at the Gibbs
Cancer Center in Spartanburg.
Miss Gregory was born in Union on Oct. 12, 1927, a daughter of the
late Jerry Simpson Gregory and Margaret Workman Gregory of Union. She was
an active member of the First Baptist Church of Union where she was a
member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Pearl Johnson Baptist Women.
Miss Gregory was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from the
City of Union Utility Department as data processing supervisor.
Miss Gregory is survived by a sister, Eugenia Gregory Morgan of Union;
and two nieces, Sue Morgan of Union and Deidre Gregory of Appling, Ga. She
was predeceased by a brother, Carroll J. Gregory.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Union
First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in
Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers are Bobby Brown, Bill Wingo, Roger Page, Hubert
Sanders, Felder Meador and Jimmy Vinson.
Members of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Pearl Johnson Baptist
Women are asked to sit as a body at the funeral service.

Donald W. Pharr, 66, husband of Jeanette Williams Pharr of 2031
Jonesville Highway, Union, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at 2:05 p.m. in
Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness.
Mr. Pharr was born in Union County on Sept. 2, 1938, a son of the late
Boyd and Essie Burgess Pharr. He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church,
Union Masonic Lodge #75 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Mr. Pharr was a
veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Monsanto Co. He was a tax
preparer for Roberts Tax Service in Greenwood.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Johnny W. Pharr and wife
Lynn of Chester, a brother, Harold E. Pharr Sr. and wife Betty of Conway;
a nephew, Gene Pharr and wife Lori of Conway; a niece, Sherry Pharr of
Conway; two greatnieces, Elizabeth and Kelsie Pharr of Conway and a grand
dog, Dixie. Mr. Pharr was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Booty
Pharr and Peggy Pharr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mon-Aetna Baptist
Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial
Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Benny Stevens, Charles Putman, George
Finkenstadt Sr., Gene Pharr, Robbie Crocker and Gary Deal.

Elnora Crocker, 71, formerly of Union, died in Columbia Thursday,
May 5, 2005, at 9:44 a.m. after several years of declining health.
Miss Crocker was born in Union on Sept. 12, 1933, a daughter of the
late Russell and Fulton Eller Crocker. She was a member of the Park Street
Baptist Church of Columbia.
Surviving are two brothers, Francis “Bunk” Crocker of Union and
Charlie Crocker of Pacolet; two sisters, Eula Kennett of Union and Mary
Lou Palmer of Rock Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Baptist
Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Don Lesley. The family will receive
friends at the church from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday prior to the graveside
service. The family is at their respective homes.

World War II veteran
James U. (Lease) Ray Sr., 82, widower of Helen Carter Ray of 120
Woodside Drive, Lockhart, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 after a brief
illness.
Mr. Ray was born Nov. 25, 1922 in Barnwell. He was the son of Otto V.
Ray and Carrie Tennant Ray. He was a graduate of Chester High School, and
a former Mason and Shriner. Mr. Ray was retired from Norfolk-Southern
Railway and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He served in the European Theater of operations with the 5th Infantry
Division. He received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star, and the
Purple Heart among other decorations. Mr. Ray was also a member of the
Lockhart United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, James U. Ray Jr. and wife Pansy and Thomas Ray
and wife, Claudia, all of Rock Hill; a sister, Mary R. Smith of
Chattanooga, Tenn.; a brother, Marcus Ray of Great Falls, and four
grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2005, at Union
Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Alan Quarles.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday night.

Claude D. Smith, 83, husband for 48 years of Mallie Lawson Smith,
of 1149 Gowan Road, West Springs Community, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at
Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Toccoa, Ga. He was the foster
child of Marion Simmons and Annie Cunningham Simmons. Mr. Smith retired
from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a veteran of World War II
having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of West Springs Baptist
Church where he was a former Deacon, Sunday School teacher and director
and also served on the church cemetery committee.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sara Smith and
husband, Roger, of Glenn Springs; three grandsons and their wives, Allen
and Lisa Smith of Glenn Springs; Darren and Gretchen Smith of Waterloo,
Ill., and Mark and Angie Smith of Roebuck; and five great-grandchildren,
Morgan Smith, Brady Smith, Abby Smith, Lainey Smith and Byers Smith.
Funeral services were held at West Springs Baptist Church Sunday, May
8, 2005, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Henry Johnson, assisted by Mr. Smith’s
grandsons, Pastor Daren Smith and Mark Smith.
Active pallbearers were Charles Bennett, Alan Harvey, Frank Humphries,
Vance Quinn, Jeff Lancaster and Frank Hart.
The following served as the honorary escort: Deacons of West Springs
Baptist Church, the Pastor’s Sunday School Class, John and Catherine
Finch, Malcolm and Shirley Riddle, Mansel and Frances Gowan, Carl and
Mable Gist, Charles and Joyce Lancaster, John and Sally Hart and Dr. David

Center.
Mrs. Bogan was born in Buffalo on Oct. 4, 1923, a daughter of the late
James Aaron Morrow and Zala Massey Morrow. She was a member of Bogansville
United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bogan was the former original owner of
Bogan’s Party Shop, Main St., Jonesville.
Surviving are a daughter, Monica Bogan Price and husband Arnold of
Jonesville; a son, Monty Joe Bogan Sr. of Jonesville; a sister, Rachel M.
Crawford of Union; three grandchildren, Damita Bogan “DeDe” Frost and
husband Gary, Haley Nicole Williams and husband Michael and Monty Joe
Bogan Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Thomas “Sweething” Frost,
Brett Michael “Sunshine” Frost and Chadwick Conlon “Shortlegs” Frost. Mrs.
Bogan was predeceased by an infant son, Fredrick Wayne Bogan and five
sisters, Annie Dee Prince, Artie Bell Morrow, Daisy Bell Kennett, Alice
Ruth Morrow and Mabel Lena Long.

died at sunrise Tuesday morning, May 10, 2005, in Laurens County Hospital.
Mrs. Fowler was born in Union on Nov. 3, 1917, a daughter of the late
Frank Arthur Johnson and Dora Dunlap Johnson. She was a member of Duncan
Acres United Methodist Church, the Mary Lybrand Sunday School Class, the
Faith Circle and was a former Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Fowler attended
USC-Union and Wofford College Theology classes. She was retired from
United Merchants, Union Plant.
Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Harold Fowler.
She was the mother of the following children: a son, Kenneth D. Fowler,
deceased, daughters, Brenda Weaver, deceased, Harriette Harris, deceased,
Pamela Laster of Spartanburg, Mary Herring of Columbia; sons, Benjamin
Fowler, deceased and Layton Fowler of Laurens; a sister, Sara Medford of
Union; a brother, Henry Johnson of Jonesville; 21 grandchildren, 41
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

JONESVILLE — Brady T. (Scrooch) Morgan, 74, of 135 Hames Ave.,
Jonesville, widower of Letha Hill Morgan, died at his residence Wednesday
morning, May 11, 2005 after an extended illness.
Mr. Morgan was born in Jonesville on July 29, 1930, a son of the late
Richard Globe Morgan and Lillie Addis Morgan. He was a member of
Jonesville Baptist Church where he worked in the nursery department for
over 30 years and was also a member of Prudence Masonic Lodge #139. Mr.
Morgan was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from the
U.S. Post Office in Jonesville after 30 years service and was owner and
operator of Morgan’s Mini Mall in Jonesville.
Mr. Morgan was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are two sons, Mike Morgan and wife Cindy of Jonesville and
Dell Morgan of the home; a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Morgan was predeceased by two brothers, Fate Morgan and Paul
Morgan.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Jonesville
Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown and the Rev. Joe
Stover.
Volunteers of the Jonesville Fire Department will serve as honorary
pallbearers.

husband of Ann Freeman Kendrick, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at 10:25

Mr. Kendrick was born in Union on March 31, 1956, a son of Juanita
Elizabeth Wynn Kendrick of Union and the late Ray Neal Kendrick. He
attended Philippi Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Southern
Commerical Construction Co.. He was a member of the Newberry Moose Lodge.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three sons, Scott
Kendrick and wife Laura, Kevin Kendrick and Brad Kendrick, all of Whitmire;
a sister, Patricia Aides of Woolrich, Pa.; a brother, Bruce Kendrick of
Buffalo; and four grandchildren, Stan Whitmire and Kentrel Whitmire,
Raegan Kendrick and Kimberly Kendrick, all of Whitmire. He was also loved
by three special friends, Rocky, Precious and Baby.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — Arthur R.
Brannon, 56, of Elizabethtown, Ky., formerly of Lockhart, husband of
Phyllis C. Pepper Brannon, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the Hardin
Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
A native of Lockhart, he was retired from the U.S. Army after 23
years, having served in Vietnam. A former employee of the Hardin Memorial
Hospital, he was a member of the South Fork Baptist Church near
Hodgenville, the DAV Chapter 3 in Elizabethtown, where he had served as
Chaplain and was currently serving as Commander. A member of the VFW in
Radcliff, the Department of Kentucky DAV, the AUSA American Veterans and
was a Kentucky Colonel and a Freemason.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Barnes; his parents,
Grady Sr. and Nellie Rochester Brannon; three sisters, Sarah Gregory, Mary
Cox and Peggy Walker and two brothers, Walter Brannon and Barney “Sonny”
Brannon.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Machelle
McDowell of Magnolia, Ky., Lavonna Shive of Elizabethtown, Angela Key and
Penny Brannon, both of Killeen, Texas; three sons, Walter Brannon of
Cooperai Cave, Texas, Jeffrey Brannon of Weatherford, Texas and Todd Akin
of Bardstown; five sisters, Carolyn Rash and Tincy Inman, both of
Lockhart, Nancy Hope and Guynita Brannon, both of Union and Brenda Petty
of Leesville, La.; two brothers, Clifton Brannon and Grady Brannon Jr. ,
both of Lockhart and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at
the South Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Norm Brock officiating. Burial
will follow in the South Fork Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Duncan was born in Union on July 28,1929, a daughter of the late
Joseph Frank Brock and Nannie Millwood Brock. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Lockhart.
Surviving are four sons, Joseph Maurice Brock and wife Diane of
Buffalo, John William Duncan of Pollock, La., Ray Duncan and wife,
Stephanie of Lockhart and Carl Douglas Plemmons of New Jersey; three
grandchildren, Travis Ray and Megan Leigh Duncan, both of the home and
Kimberly Ann Brock of Buffalo; and a greatgrandson, Tristen Scott Brock.
Mrs. Duncan was predeceased by two grandsons, Timothy Scott Brock and
James Adam Duncan.

Dorothy H. “Dot” Meador, 88, 300 W. South St., Union, died
Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a
sudden illness.
Miss Meador was born in Union to the late LeRoy Glenn and Sallie
Tinsley Meador. Miss Meador was a graduate of Union High School and after
graduation worked several places including in her grandfather’s jewelry
store, Tinsley’s Jewelers in downtown Union. She worked for 33 years with
Southern Bell, many as a supervisor of the Spartanburg office. Miss Meador
was a member and major supporter of Beulah Baptist Church, built on land
donated by her grandfather. She served in several church offices, the last
being church clerk and Sunday school teacher. Other activities of interest
to Miss Meador included delivering meals on wheels, being an active member
of the Good Neighbors Garden Club and driving friends for doctor’s
appointments, etc. She will always be remembered for her kind, helpful and
caring nature.
She was predeceased in death by her brothers: Waring B. Meador, who
died in the South Pacific during World War II, and LeRoy Glenn Meador,
Jr., her twin; and a sister, Mae Sue Meador. She is survived by two
brothers, William Rogers Meador of Goochland, Va., and John Tinsley Meador
and wife Pelea, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and several cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Beulah Baptist
Church by the Rev. Austin Bennett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be John Williams, Dolton Williams, Kelvin
Williams and Alvin Wood.
Visitation will be held 6-7:30 this evening at the S.R. Holcombe
Funeral Home.

Mr. Billy Eugene O'Dell, 74, of 2248
Lockhart Hwy., Union, husband of Nancy Jolly O'Dell, died Thursday, May
19, 2005 at 2:25 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mr. O'Dell was born in Union on July 3, 1930, a son of the late Fred H. O'Dell, Sr. and Lenora Dotson O'Dell. He was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 1949, a member of the Union High School Hall of Fame and the S.C. Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. He served as an SFC with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. OD'ell was retired from the Union County Delinquent Tax Collectors Office after 17 years of service and was presently serving his 4th term on the Union County Council. Mr. O'Dell was a life-long member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, Usher, General Officer of Sunday School, and had served on the Personal and Benevolence Committees, and was a member of Masonic Lodge #75.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Eugenia O'Dell Warren and husband Scott of Bradenton, Florida; a son, Ted O'Dell of Union; a granddaughter, Amanda O'Dell of Union; two brothers, Fred ODell and Jack O'Dell, both of Union. Mr. O'Dell was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Howard O'Dell, Cecil O'Dell, Clyde O'Dell, Ethel O. Kempel, and Doris O. Howell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, with the Rev. Benny Green, Rev. Bobby Crocker and Rev. Robert Emory officiating. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Jay Allen, Barry O'Dell, Reece O'Dell, Mike O'Dell, Jim O'Dell, Ronnie O'Dell, John O'Dell, Phil Holden, and John Stevenson.

Highway, Jonesville, husband of Melissa Hamby Millwood, died at his
residence Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 9:20 p.m.
Mr. Millwood was born in Union on Sept. 16, 1970, a son of James
Millwood Sr. of Buffalo and Nancy Worley Turner of Union. He was employed
with Davis Electrical in Greenville and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Marissa
Millwood of the home; two step-sons, Jay Hamby and Todd Hamby, both of
Jonesville; a sister, Crystal Martin of Union; two brothers, Eddie
Millwood of Buffalo and Tim Millwood of Jonesville; his maternal
grandmother, Gwenell Worley of Union; his maternal grandfather, Roy Lee
Worley of Georgia; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr.
Millwood was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Eva and Bill
Millwood.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Memorial
Gardens conducted by the Rev. Jerry Hargrove.

Alice Brannon Whitlock, 87, of 816 Lovers Lane Road, Union, widow
of Victor Franklin Whitlock, died at her home Sunday, May 22, 2005.
Mrs. Whitlock was born in Union on July 10, 1917, the daughter of the
late Barnie B. Brannon and Iva Tucker Brannon. She was a member of Greater
Union Church and was retired from United Merchants. Mrs. Whitlock was the
last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Whitlock is survived by three daughters, Judy W. Quinn of the
home, Karen W. Austin and husband Robert, Belinda (Monk) Mosley and
husband Stanley, all of Union; two sons, Walter G. Whitlock and wife Robin
of Union and Garvin F. Whitlock of Gray Court; 13 grandchildren, 21
great-grandchildren and a special granddaughter, Kelly Dawn Horne and a
special grandson, John David Horne.
Mrs. Whitlock was predeceased by four sisters, Eula B. Burris, Ruth B.
Brock, Fannie B. Davis and Grace B. Wilburn; and seven brothers, Willie
Brannon, Grady Brannon, William Charlie Brannon, Walter Lee Brannon, Paul
Brannon, Roy E. Brannon and Barnie B. Brannon.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 23, 2005 at 3 p.m. in the S.R.
Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. John Cody and the Rev.
Anthony Shetley. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery.

David Charles Peneguy, 51, husband of Sarah Syrdal Peneguy, of 143
Wilson Road, Union, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Wallace Thomson Hospital
after a sudden illness.
Mr. Peneguy was born in New Orleans, La., April 26, 1954, a son of
Cynthia Hoffman Peneguy Couturier of New Orleans and the late Richard
Peneguy. He was a professional bowler, a Senior PBA Tour member. He
attended the University of New Orleans an was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother and stepfather John M.
Couturier of New Orleans are a daughter, Amanda Lynn Ducote of New
Orleans; two sons, David Charles Peneguy Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and
Christopher Neal Lattie of Lacombe, La.; a sister, Elizabeth Peneguy Green
of New Orleans; three brothers, Richard Allen Peneguy Jr., of Houston,
Texas, Mark Edward Peneguy of New Orleans and Christopher Thomas Peneguy
of Boca Raton, Fla.., three grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Peneguy of
Nashville, Cody Michael Ducote and Madeline Grace Ducote, both of New

MANNING — Rounette Virginia Chewning, 91, widow of Reginald “Bump”
Chewning, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at her home in Manning.
Born Nov. 3, 1918, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Edward A.
and Annie Thames McCabe. She was a member of Jordan United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Chewning was a member of the Virginia Pride Garden Club,
Alzheimer’s Support Group, and United Methodist Women.
Surviving are a daughter, Jarma Jean Hewitt of Manning; a
daughter-in-law, Rose Chewning of Union; two grandsons, Kenneth Dickson
Chewning of Franklin, W.Va. and Jonathan Graig Hewitt of Manning; five
sisters, Edna Lowder of Manning, Erma Prescott of Sumter, Merceline
Richburg of Moncks Corner, Deraldine Cooper of W. Columbia, Betty Roof of
Sulfolk, Va; a sister-in-law, Jessie McCabe of Alcolu; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Reginald Claude Chewning and a
grandson, Reggie Chewning; two sisters an four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of
Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Miriam Hadden and the Rev.
Joe Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan United Methodist
Church Cemetery.

JONESVILLE — James William Fowler, 72, husband of Helen McBride
Fowler of 141 Park Drive, Jonesville, died at his home, Wednesday, May 25,
2005, after an extended illness.
Mr. Fowler was born in Jonesville May 27, 1932, a son of the late
Ernest S. and Bessie Dorman Fowler. He was retired from Uniblend Spinners
and was a long time employee of J.P. Stevens Co. in Jonesville. Mr. Fowler
was a former member of the S.C. National Guard, Jonesville Unit and former
member of the S.C. National Guard Reserve. He was a member of Jonesville
Baptist Church and the Happy Hearts of the church. Mr. Fowler was a very
devoted NASCAR fan.
Mr. Fowler is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving in addition to is wife are three daughters, Rhonda Herring
and husband Daryl of Spartanburg, Andrea Smith and husband Eddie of Union
and Billie Chavis of Jonesville; two granddaughters, Olivia Chavis of
Jonesville and Hillary Smith of Union; a step-granddaughter, Christy
Marshall of North Carolina and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Fowler
was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Harris and Thelma Kendrick.

Church by the Rev. Ralph Brown and the Rev. Calvin Smith.

Mrs. Candler was born in Converse on March 10, 1914, a daughter of the
late E.P. Davis and Corrie Elizabeth Pryor Davis. She was a member of
Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Milliken & Co.,
Lockhart Plant.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are four sons, Denver Candler and wife Joyce, Howard Candler
and wife Frances and Cecil Candler and wife Maxine, all of Union and
Vester Candler and wife Ruth of Spartanburg; a daughter, Julia Candler
Bobo and husband Jimmy of Spartanburg; 14 grandchildren; 24
greatgrandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Mark Candler, Jimmy Donald
Bobo and Joshua Michael Candler.

Mrs. Keasler was born in Sulphur Springs, N.C., on May 9, 1931, a
daughter of the late William Herbert Biggerstaff and Fannie Lee Hill
Biggerstaff. She was a Baptist and was a retired nurse’s aide from Ellen
Sagar Nursing Home.
Surviving are: a son, Gerald Keasler of the home; a brother, Calbert
Biggerstaff of Fingerville, S.C.
Mrs. Keasler was predeceased by an infant son and two brothers, Frank
Biggerstaff and Grover Biggerstaff.

Mr. Grant was born in Union on Dec. 5, 1955, a son of the late Teddie
Roosevelt Grant and Elizabeth Conley Grant. He was a member of Lower
Fairforest Baptist Church. Mr. Grant was a graduate of Woodruff High
School and was a retired commercial welder.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Eddie Christopher Lane
Grant of Athens, Ga.; a step-daughter, Hannah Elliott Lee of the home, and

“Bowser” Young, 75, husband of Dot Stepp Young of 134 Mt. Vernon Road,
Union, died at his residence Friday, May 27, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. surrounded
by his family.
Mr. Young was born in Union Sept. 21, 1929. He was preceded in death
by his mother, Marie Bailey Young. Mr. Young was a devoted and loving
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from
the S.C. Dept. of Labor as a Wage Claim Investigator. Mr. Young was a
50-year member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
He was an avid fisherman and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a twin daughter and son, Sherry
Young Hoffmann and husband Steve of Spartanburg and Terry E. Young and
wife Jean of Union; a special brother, Ralph Young of Union; three
grandchildren, Chad A. Silvers and wife Mia of Roebuck, Leslie Sykes and
husband David of Lexington and Stewart W. Young of Union; and a
great-grandchild, Wells Sykes of Lexington.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Memorial
Gardens conducted by the Rev. Roger Plemmons and cousins Bill and Jane
Gallman.

residence Saturday morning, May 28, 2005.
Melanie was born in Union on Oct. 6, 1967, a daughter of Billie Ann
Morgan King of the home and the late Rev. Donald C. King. She was a member
of the New Hope Baptist Church. Melanie was a graduate of Union High
School class of 1984, a graduate of Spartanburg Tec and a graduate of
Southern California College of Respitaory Therapy. She was a respiratory
therapist in the NICU of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Shanna Nicole
“Nikki” McAbee and Alexis Danielle Farr, both of the home; two sisters,
Laurie K. Haney of Union and Patti K. Combs of Charlotte; four nephews and

World War II veteran
William Robert Watts, 83, of 106 Woodlawn Ave., Union, husband of
Kathryn Ault Watts, died at his residence Friday evening, May 27, 2005.
Born in Andrews on Oct. 30, 1921, son of the late Eugene Agustus Watts
and Effie Luttrell Watts; he was a member of Union First Baptist Church
where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Watts was a
1939 graduate of Union High School, a 1947 graduate of Carson-Newman
College where he was captain of the football team. He received a Masters
degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a captain in
the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. He
was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He
retired from Union High School as a teacher, coach and principal. He was
inducted into the Union High School Hall of Fame in 1998.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Judy Watts
Breckenridge and husband, Rufus, of Greenville, Tenn.; two sons, William
Robert Watts Jr., and wife, Kathy, of Clinton Township, Mich., and James
Kenneth Watts and wife, Pam, of Purcellville, Va.; grandchildren, Suzanne
Breckenridge, Audra Breckenridge, Caroline Breckenridge, Jena
Breckenridge, Baker Watts, Ethan Watts, Abby Watts and Lauren Watts; a
brother, Eugene Agustus Watts II of Southern Pines, N.C.; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Watts was predeceased by a brother, Richard Roger Watts and a son,
Charles David Watts. A memorial service was held at Union First Baptist
Church, Monday, May 30, 2005, at 11 a.m. with visitation following at the
