Mr. Leldon Nave, age 72, formerly of 222 S. Boyce St .Union,
husband of Betty Smith Nave died Friday, May 29, 2009 at Ellen
Sagar Nursing Home.
Mr. Nave was born in Alabama, a son of the late Charles Nave
and Genner B. Owens Nave.
He was formerly employed by Garner Oil Company and was a
member of the Union Church of God where he served as an Elder
was a Life Builder Member.
Mr. Nave was first married to the late Rosa Lee Nave.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Rhonda N.
Duncan and husband Eddie,of Union; a son Clevie Nave and wife
Pam of Prosperity, SC; 5 grandchildren, and 2
great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Norma N. Miley of Spartanburg,
SC and Virginia N. Callihan of Alabama. He was pre-deceased by 3
brothers; Ed Nave, Harvey Nave, and Tom Nave.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 1,
2009 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ben Hill.
The family will receive friends after the service at the
cemetery.
The family is at their respective homes.

Mrs. Thelma Morris Ivey, of 620 Brown’s Creek Church Rd.,
widow of Emmett Byrd Ivey, Sr., went home to be with the Lord,
Friday May 29, 2009 at her home.
Mrs Ivey was born in Union, July 26, 1917 a daughter of the
late Monroe Morris and Lillian Harris. She was a graduate of
Kelly-Pinckney High School and was a homemaker. Mrs Ivey was a
member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters Thessis I. Tollison and Nancy I.
Stepp; 2 sons, Johnny W. Ivey and wife Sandi and Byrd Ivey, Jr.
and wife Donna, all of Union; 8 grandchildren, 13
great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs Ivey
was pre-deceased by 1 sister, 5 brothers and 1 son-in-law,
Charles Tollison. She was the last surviving member of her
immediate family.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 31,
2009 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee
and Rev. Billy Cathcart. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery.
Active paulbearers will be Petey Ivey, Terry Vinson, Steve
Walton, Claudie Williams, Wayne Vinson, and Ronnie Ivey.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until
3:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Lovely E. Wallen Clendenin age 81 of 451 Riley Rd.,
Buffalo, wife of 60 years to the late Ronald George Clendenin,
went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2009 at Spartanburg
Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Clendenin was born in Scott Co., VA, May 6, 1928 a
daughter of the late James and Ollie Bishop Wallen. She was
retired from Enoree Mill and had also worked for United
Merchants, Buffalo Plant. Mrs. Clendenin was a loving mother,
Mamaw, sister and aunt.
Surviving are a son: Ronald Lynn Clendenin; four
grandchildren: Jennie Clendenin, Logan Clendenin, Casey
Clendenin and Mitchell Clendenin all of Buffalo; three sisters:
Bonnie Pepper and Laura Qualls both of Kingsport TN and Lucy
Stacy of Blountville, TN; two brothers: Bill Wallen of
Clinchport, TN and Radford Wallen of Gate City, VA; and several
nieces and nephews. Mrs. Clendenin was predeceased by sisters:
Lina McDavid and Maddie Deboard and and infant sister: Minnie
Wallen and brothers: William Wallen, Harm Wallen and Elbert
Wallen.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, June 1, 2009 at
New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial
will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Qualls, Kemp Qualls, Jesse
Carter, Vick Elliott, Cody Hearn, Paul Murray, Ritchie Starnes
and Dennis Willard.
Deacons of New Hope Baptist Church are asked to serve as

Mr. Roy Thomas Adams, age 69, husband of Sara "Chunk" Horne
Adams of 325 Bobby Faucett Rd., Jonesville, SC went home to be
with the Lord Friday, May 29, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in
Greenville, SC.
Mr. Adams was born in Union, SC May 31, 1939, a son of the
late Hoyle Adams and Maude Gregory Adams Horne. He was a former
truck driver with Milliken & Company for thirty-two years. Mr.
Adams was a lifetime member of Fairforest Baptist Church where
he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher and a faithful
choir member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Dora
Fowler and fiancé Ted Palka
of Jonesville, Tammy Pridemore and husband Ricky of Union and
Ann Faucett and husband Robbie of Spartanburg; seven
grandchildren: Nicole Tyler and husband TJ of Union, Timothy
Adams, reared in the home, Megan Pridemore, Claire Pridemore,
Madison Grace Faucett, Sara Caroline Faucett and Adams Robert
Faucett; one great-grandchild, Madelyn Kate Tyler; a brother,
James Adams of Union; a sister, Joyce Gault and husband Toney of
Jonesville and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Adams was
predeceased by a step-father, Jimbo Horne.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 31, 2009 at
Fairforest Baptist church conducted by Dr. Aulbrey Calvert and
Rev. Robert Patterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Koon was born in Mobile, AL June 16, 1955, a daughter of
Autharene N. Day of Mobile, AL and the late J.B. Day. She was
formerly employed with W.N. Kirkland Plumbing in Spartanburg.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are two
daughters: Andrea S. Pitts and husband Brad and Samantha Jean
Baker; a sister, Tammy Jean Smith and husband Steve; a brother,
Jay Anthony "Andy" Day all of Mobile, AL; two nephews, Alex and

138 England Drive, Union, SC passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009
at her home after an extended illness.
Mrs. England was born in Fayetteville, NC, May 16, 1973, a
daughter of Torance and Bernice Burgess Inman of Union. She was
a 1991 graduate of Union High School and was a member of
Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and
homemaker who was involved in the lives of her daughters.
Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are three
daughters: Christen Elizabeth England, Savannah Hope England and
Caroline Jamison Rae England; two sisters: Angela Inman and
Amanda Inman Gallman and husband Jeremy; father and
mother-in-law, Arnold and Catherine Kelley England; paternal
grandparents: James and Beuna Inman; maternal grandmother, Betty
Burgess; brother-in-law Bronson England and wife Wendy all of
Union; sister-in-law, Gale Brown and husband Michael;
brother-in-law Arnold R. England, Jr and wife Pat all of Seymore,
TN; special aunt and uncle, Louise and Jack Garner of Union and

died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center

daughter of the late George Wallace Hyatt and Virginia O’Shields
Hyatt. She was a graduate of Union High School and was employed
with Timken & Co. Ms. Hyatt was a member of Buffalo Baptist
Church.
Surviving are a son, Jason Hyatt and wife Amber of Buffalo;
two brothers: Bobby Hyatt and wife Becky of Buffalo and David
Hyatt and wife Terri of Charleston; two aunts: Mary Nell Baldwin
of Buffalo and Anna Lee Dunaway of Enoree; two grandchildren:
Cassidy Hyatt and Jadon Hyatt and a special friend, Eddie Sweezy.

Mrs. Judith "Judy" Thompson Brackins, age 69 of 4532 Roundup
Drive, Polk City, FL, formerly of Union, died Saturday, May 23,
2009 at her home. Mrs. Brackins was the widow of Benjiman Dale
Brackins.
Mrs. Brackins was born in Union, April 29, 1940, a daughter
of the late Edgar Earl Thompson and Pearl Sumner Thompson. She
was also predeceased by her son, Jerry Dale Brackins and three
brothers, Ted, Jerry and Carroll Thompson. She was homemaker and
a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are a daughter, Renea Fulcher and husband Wayne of
Polk City, FL; a sister, Yvonne Thompson of Union; a grandson,
Robert Fulcher and wife Mindy; a great-grandson, Landon Fulcher
all of Norfolk, VA and a sister-in-law, Elaine Thompson of
Union.

Healthcare Systems.
Mrs. Vanderford was born in Union, SC, June 21, 1942, a
daughter of the late Ralph Emerson Bolton and Nannie Mae Roark
Bolton. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she
taught the Women’s 4 Sunday School Class and other various
classes through the years; was active in the AWANA Program and
the Faith Program. Mrs. Vanderford was a dedicated Christian who
loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Tammy
Harris Childers and husband Brian of Blacksburg and Kim Reardon
and husband Keith of Union; two grandchildren: Kira Reardon of
Union and Samuel James Pierce and wife Erin of Ft. Drum, NY;
sisters and brothers: Lois Horne of Cross Hill, Cora Burgess of
Arizona, Ann Burgess of Cross Keys, R.E. Bolton of West Springs
and Frank Bolton of Greenwood. Mrs. Vanderford was predeceased
by a sister Juanita Bolton.

Mr. Steven O. Summer, age 56, husband of Dianne Longshore
Summer of 174 Summer Valley Rd., Buffalo, SC died Wednesday, May
21, 2009 at Oakmont of Union.
Mr. Summer was born in Union, SC, October 6, 1952, a son of
Charles and Norma McLaughlin Summer of Buffalo. He was a 1970
graduate of Union High School and had attended Spartanburg
Technical College. Mr. Summer was a Veteran of the U.S. Army
having served in the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist Faith.
He was a loving and giving man to his family, friends and to all
he met. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are three
children: Cintra Conner of Whitmire, Charlene and Chucky
Tankersley of Pauline and David and Teresa Widener of
Jonesville; a sister, Dianne Anthony; a brother, Dale Summer

Mr. Amos E. "Pee-Wee" Sanford, age 91, husband of Helen
Morris Sanford of 105 N. Boyce Street, Union, SC died Wednesday,
May 20, 2009 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mr. Sanford was born in Waynesville, NC, March 9, 1918, a son
of the late Vinson M. Sanford and Fannie Woody Sanford. He
retired from United Merchants-Buffalo Plant and was a member of
Union Church of God. Mr. Sanford was first married to the late
Geneal Lawson Sanford.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Stella
Maness and husband Jimmy of Buffalo and Linda Treadway and
husband Jerry of Union; two step-sons: Harold Beard and wife
Fran of North Carolina and Donald Beard and wife Dianne of
Union; a step-daughter, Cora Revis of Union; a sister, Darleen
Roberts of Buffalo; six grandchildren and eleven
great-grandchildren. Mr. Sanford was predeceased by a sister,
Vera Medford.

Mrs. Allene Mitchell Henderson, age 80 of 142 Old English
Rd., Union, SC died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Wallace Thomson
Hospital. She was the wife of fifty-three years of the late Otis
Henderson.
Mrs. Henderson was born in Union, SC, October 5, 1928, a
daughter of the late John "Will" Mitchell and Dora Duckett
Mitchell. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of
Union Church of Christ. Mrs. Henderson was a loving mother,
grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two daughters: Terrie Montgomery and husband
Harold and Cathy Bailey and husband Eddie all of Union; a
grandson, John Montgomery; special friend and caregiver,
Chyrstal Gist and two God-children, Stephen Brady and Cheyenne
Gist all of Union. Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by a sister,
Ophelia Adams and a brother, C.D. Mitchell.

Mr. Roberts was born in Union, SC, February 28, 1965, a son
of Frank L. "Buddy" Roberts of Jonesville and the late Georgia
Faucette Roberts. He was owner and operator of Kenny’s Auto
Service.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Summer
Mackenzie Roberts and a son Kenneth Harold Roberts, Jr both of
the home, two daughters, Hannah Lee Cutshaw of Jonesville and
Kimberly "Tottie" Groves of Buffalo; a sister, Cindy Roberts and
fiancee Jimmy Smith; a brother, Ricky Roberts and wife Scarlett
all of Jonesville and a mother-in-law, Mary Blalock of Cowpens.

Mr. Robert "Bud" Jourdin, age 73 of 852 Quarter Round Rd.,
Pacolet, SC, formerly of 110 Aspen Street, Pacolet died Monday,
May 18, 2009.
Mr. Jourdin was born in Quebec, Canada, November 4, 1935, a
son of the late Joseph Hector Jourdin and Eleanor Weir Jourdin.
He was a self-employed professional car restorer and a Mason
with Masonic Lodge #228 Trough Shoals in Pacolet. Mr. Jourdin
was a Veteran of the Canadian Army and was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving are three daughters: Rhonda Kennedy, Cathy Saulter
both of West Palm Beach, FL and Bonnie High; a son, Robert High
both of Ontario, Canada; two sisters: Joyce Stoughton of Canada
and Doris Crawford of New York; a brother, Jimmy High of Canada;
four grandchildren: Derryck Saulter, Kiaria Saulter both of West
Palm Beach, FL, Zachary Vacanti of New York and Zane Vacanti of
Tampa, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Joann
Spencer of Pacolet, Jean Richter of Spartanburg and Bobby and

August 23, 1982, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Carl and
Beverly Lowery Howard of Spartanburg.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers: Chris

Mrs. Yvonne Hodge Farr, age 84, of 731 Lakeside Drive, Union,
SC, formerly of 128 Park Drive, Jonesville, widow of Chester
"Buck" Farr, died Monday, May 18, 2009.
Mrs. Farr was born in Cherokee County, SC, August 26, 1924, a
daughter of the late Dewey Hodge and Carrie Ivey Hodge. She was
a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Conso
Products. Mrs. Farr was a faithful member of Gilead Baptist
Church and was active as long as her health permitted. She was a
loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are a son, Jerry Farr and wife Sue; a grandson,
Jeremy Farr; a niece, Judy Graham and husband Gerald, with whom
she made her home, and a great-nephew, Jeffery Culberson and
special friend Jennifer Faulks all of Union.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 20,
2009 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Dr. Lawton
Neely.
Visitation will be held in the church immediately following
the service.

Mr. Lofton Andrew "Pete" Ivey, age 83, husband of Frankie
Earls Ivey of 668 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, SC died Thursday,
May 14, 2009 at Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg.
Mr. Ivey was born in Union, SC, December 30, 1925, a son of
the late Vernon Ivey and Lillie Harris . He was a residential
Building Contractor for over fifty years; owner of Ivey
Construction Company, Inc.; Ivey Realty and was a former member
of the SC Home Builders Association. Mr. Ivey was a Veteran of
the US Army having served in World War II; a member of Brown’s
Creek Baptist Church and an avid Coon Hunter for many years. Mr.
Ivey was inducted into the SC Hall of Fame in 2003 by the SCSCHA.
He touched the lives of many young men with his love for the
sport.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Lofton A. "Petey"
Ivey, Jr and wife Jeri of Union; a step-daughter, Sheri Todd and
husband David of Fletcher, NC; two step-sons: Billy Blackwood
and fiancee Diane Sherbert of Pauline and Terry Blackwood of
Union; a sister, Thema "Coot" Ivey of Union; a son-in-law, Bill
Prince of Union, nine grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. Mr. Ivey was predeceased by a daughter,
Carol Ivey Prince; a sister, Ella Mae McAbee; four brothers: JM
Morris, Bill Morris, Frank Vaughan and C. Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, May 16, 2009
at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert
Branch and Bishop Joseph Larsen. Burial will be in Union
Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Clarence Grady Thompson, age 75 of 97 Subertown Rd., Apt.
G23, Whitmire, SC, widow of Pauline Thompson, died Tuesday, May
12, 2009 at his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Thompson was born in Laurens County, SC March 21, 1934, a
son of the late James Willie Thompson and Emma Malone Thompson.
He retired from Mt. Bethel Logging in Newberry and was a former
member of the South Carolina National Guard - Whitmire Unit.
Surviving are a daughter, Renee T. Coats of Waterloo; two
sons: Randy Thompson and Rickey Thompson both of Whtimre; a
step-daughter, Lois Ann McCaulley of Newberry; a brother, James
Thompson of Kingstree; eight grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May
18, 2009 at the Whitmire Cemetery conducted by Rev. Steve Young.

Mr. Chad Robert Pettit, age 30, of 147 Old English Rd.,
Union, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, May 8, 2009.
Chad was born in Kalamazoo, MI, November 24, 1978 a son of
Mark Pettit, Sr. of the home and the late Barbara Jean Reynolds.
He was a graduate of Union High School and a member of Welcome
Baptist Church where he was a member of the Young Peoples Sunday
School class and a devoted worker for the Lord. Chad was
employed with the Union County Disabilities and Special Needs.
Surviving in addition to his father are three brothers: Mark
Pettit, Jr. and Robert Pettit both of the home and Timothy
Oswalt of FL; one sister: Miranda Reynolds of the home; two
aunts: Luanne Reynolds of the home and Linda Pettit of Union;
paternal grandparents: Robert C. and Mary Pettit of Union;
maternal step-grandmother: Mae Reynold of Union; special
friends: Bobbie Hopper and Holly Swanson; and a number of aunts,
uncles and cousins. Chad was predeceased by a sister Brandi
Marie Key, paternal grandmother, Rose A. Pettit and maternal
grandparents, Robert and Shirley Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 12, 2009
at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis and
Rev. Lee Franklin. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Alayna was born, January 31, 2009 and is survived in addition
to her loving parents by grandparents: Joel and Renee Willard of

and Betty Jo Taylor of Jonesville; great-grandparents: Ethel
Taylor, Harold and Muriel Freeman all of Jonesville, and Dottie

Mrs. Victoria C. Painter, age 78, wife of George C. Painter,
Sr., of 162 Georgia Rd., Union, SC died Wednesday, May 6, 2009
at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mrs. Painter was born in Boston, MA September 19, 1930, a
daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose Conzo Adamo. She retired
from Union Mills; was employed with Palmetto Restaurant and was
a member of the Greater Union Church. She was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters:
Rebecca Moss, Carol Murphy, Georgia Murphy and husband Phillip
and Debra Petty and husband Roger all of Union; two sons,
Anthony Painter and wife Eva of Union and the late George
Painter, Jr; a brother, Salvatore Adams and wife Blondie; twelve
grandchildren: Joy and Tim Langbin of NY, Susie and Gene Gregory
of Union, Christy and Warren Jones of Spartanburg, Bert and
Mitzie Murphy of Spartanburg, Angie and Heath Ivey of Union,
Tracy and Amy Petty of Union, Wendy and Troy Knox of Jonesville,

Lake Tahoe and a predeceased granddaughter, Cindy Lyn Murphy and

Mrs. Evelyn F. Vanderford, age 89, formerly of West South
Street, Union, widow of Walter C. Vanderford died Monday, May 4,
2009 in Knoxville, TN.
Mrs. Vanderford was born in Union, SC October 11, 1919, a
daughter of the late Claude D. Finley, Sr and Annie "Bud"
Burgess Finley. Mrs. Vanderford was a retired administrator with
the Union County Health Department where she was employed for
forty-four years. She was an active member of First Baptist
Church for as along as her health permitted and was
affectionately known as "Lully" by her grandchildren and
friends.
Surviving are two daughters: Jean Jeffords and husband Art of
Knoxville, TN with whom she had made her home for the past five
years and Anne Bowen and husband Jim of Savannah, Ga; a brother,
Claude D. Finley and wife Mary of Union and three grandchildren:
David Steddenbenz and wife Leslie, Christopher Bowen and Richard
Jeffords.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2009
in the Chapel of First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Steve
Peek, a minister from First Baptist Church Concord in Knoxville,
TN. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Pruitt was born in Buffalo, SC June 29, 1926, a daughter
of the late Maple Davis. She was formerly employed with United
Merchants - Buffalo Plant and retired from Conso Products. Mrs.
Pruitt was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where she
was a member of Rosa Roundtree Sunday School Class and the Annie
Massey Circle. Mrs. Pruitt was also active with the Senior
Citizens of Buffalo. She was a loving wife, mother and
grandmother.
Surviving in addition to her husband of sixty-six years are a
daughter, Cynthia P. McKinney and husband James of Spartanburg
and a granddaughter, Mitzi Mullinax and husband Brad of Boiling
Springs.

Mr. Sidney "Dan" Sanders, Sr, age 90 of 1420 Lockhart Hwy,
Union, SC, widower of Pearl Cogdill Sanders died Tuesday, May 5,
2009 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mr. Sanders was born in Union, SC September 6, 1918, a son of
the late Giles Sanders and Hettie Wright Sanders. He was a World
War II Veteran of the United States Navy and a life long member
of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Mr. Sanders retired from the Union
County Sheriff’s Office where he served as Chief Deputy for
thirty years. He was a Mason and Shriner. The last surviving
member of his immediate family, he was a dedicated and loving
father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Sanders is survived by a daughter, Susan Ellis and
husband Tommy of Pauline; a son, Danny Sanders and wife Joanna
of Conway; four granddaughters: Sandy Moss and husband Mark,
Debbie Manus, Hope Davis and Crissy Harris and husband Josh and
one grandson, Joey Moss and wife Sue; six great-grandchildren
and a special care giver Lisa Plemmons. He was predeceased by
six sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 7, 2009
at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green.
Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens with Military
Honors.
