Mrs. Mary Miller Tucker, age 85, of Brown’s Creek Rd., Union, widow of James Floyd Tucker, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mrs. Tucker was born in Union, June 16, 1931, a daughter of the late Jesse and Josie Crocker Miller. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Excel Hosiery.  Mrs. Tucker formerly work for Union Dry Cleaners. She was a member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church and was attending Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Vinson and husband, Stan W. of Greenville; a granddaughter, Kristy de Krafft and husband, John and their children, Riley de Krafft and Bryson de Krafft all of Greenville. Mrs. Tucker was also survived by a sister, Mattie Woods of Augusta, GA; a brother-in-law, Hugh Tucker and wife Linda of Union; dear friends, Jack and Sarah Vinson and Rudell Morris all of Union; several nieces and nephews including a special niece Dianne Hendricks and husband Jimmy also of Union.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.  The family will receive friends at the graveside following the services.

Richard ‘Dickie’ Chesnut
Buffalo, SC


Mr. Richard Lee “Dickie” Chesnut, age 73, of 127 Fairforest Heights, Buffalo, widower of Terri Mitchell Chesnut, passed away, Saturday October 29, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Chesnut was born in Tifton, GA, March 11, 1943, a son of the late Richard D. Chesnut and Sara Irene Wallen Boozer. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Sanders Brothers Construction in Gaffney.  Mr. Chesnut was a veteran of the US Navy and was a Mason and Shriner.

Surviving are two daughters, Melissa C. McNeace and husband Jamie and Courtney R. Chesnut all of Buffalo; two sons, Richie Chesnut and wife Jennifer of Union and Mickey Chesnut of the home; a very special friend, Gail Heyward of Sumter; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris Carr. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Shane Sherfield, Gene Shetley, Mark Shetley, Tracy Tucker, Toby Parker, Brent “Dinky” Knox and Daniel Stewart.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marie Jackson Lawson, age 83 of 923 Standard St., Rock Hill, widow of Robert W. Lawson, Sr., passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Mayesville, SC, November 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Clarence E. Jackson and Matie Lee Jackson.  She was a graduate of Ashwood High School and retired from real estate as a bookkeeper.  Mrs. Lawson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill.

Surviving are a daughter, Lois El Idrissi of the home; two sons, Robert W. Lawson, Jr. and wife Carol of Union and Timothy Wayne Lawson and wife Teresa of Rock Hill; three sisters, Mildred Brown of Sumter, Eleanor Wyrick and husband Darrell of Bishopville and Patricia Phillips and husband Claude of Kershaw; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lawson was predeceased by a daughter, Eunice Johnson; a sister, Virginia Davis and four brothers, Leroy, C.E., Jr., Buddy and Billy Jackson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church, 3206 Cross Keys Hwy., Union, SC 29379, conducted by Rev. Tony Slawson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Johnnie Jones West, age 86, formerly of Catawba St., Union, widow of Montague Madison West, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Mountain View Nursing Home in Spartanburg.

Mrs. West was born in Union, April 24, 1930, a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Bertha Fowler Jones. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant in administration.  Mrs. West was a member of Gilead Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering at Heartland of Union.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan W. Jones and husband Craig “Rip” of Spartanburg and Sandra Smith and husband David of Townsville, NC; a son, Rev. Wayne Cooke and wife Elaine of Union; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Cooke of Union; four sisters, Ethel Palmer, Leila Shirley, and Betty Grady all of Union and Edith Proctor of Jonesville; ten grandchildren: Crystal Owens and partner, Kirk, Jason Kimbrell and wife Mary, Emily Crocker and husband Robbie, Ashley Cooke and wife Mallory, Candy Caviness, Amber Addis and husband Blaine, Eric Bolduc, Monty Cooke and wife Tabitha, Jeffrey Cooke and wife Cherie and step-grandson, Christopher Jones; 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.  Mrs. West was predeceased by a son, Sammy Cooke, two sisters, Ruth Montgomery and Doris Cooke and a brother, Bill Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Hunter Cooke, Jason Kimbrell, Eddie Owen, II, Monty Cooke, Jeffery Cooke and Ashley Cooke.  The nursing staff of Mountain View Nursing Home are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Hayward W. Baber, Jr.

Mr. Hayward W. Baber, Jr., age 48 of 205 Partridge Rd., Union, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Union Medical Center.

Mr. Baber was born in Union, May 23, 1968, a son of Wayne Baber of Union and the late Doris Wix. He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Union Co. in the Public Works Department.

Mr. Baber was a member of the Union Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his father are his step-mother, Barbara J. Baber of Union; a sister, Shana B. Cousino and husband Mark of Union and his maternal grandmother, Wilma Wix. Mr. Baber was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Veston Wix and paternal grandparents, John and Altie Baber.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Minister Michael Grooms. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Mrs. Mary West Vinson, age 79, wife of Charles Ray “Charlie” Vinson, Sr., of 4658 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Pauline, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Pelham Medical Center.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Union, SC on May 15, 1937 a daughter of the late Luther West and Lillian Alexander West. She was a 1955 graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken & Co—Gillispie Plant.  Mrs. Vinson was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Freida Fuller Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Ray Vinson and wife Connie of Pauline and Eddie Vinson and wife Lori of Lyman; one brother, Ralph West of Union; one grandson, Hayden Arledge of Lyman; a special great-nephew, Wyatt Yarborough of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford West and J.D. West.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Don Alexander and Mrs. Patricia Stephens.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Becknell, Earl Evans, Mike Lawson, Paul Harvey, Eddie Mims, and Tim Watson.  Members of the Freida Fuller Sunday School class are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mrs. Kathy Diane “Kass”  Kirby Galloway, age 65, of 155 Lee Rd., Jonesville, widow of Alger Preston Galloway, Jr., passed away, Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Galloway was born in Whitmire on September 1, 1951 a daughter of the late Minnie Littlejohn Wix and step father Carl Wix of Jonesville.  She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sisters, Brenda Eller and husband Arley of Buffalo, Betty Kirby and friend Wallace Harris of Union, and Haley Hoffman and husband Karl of Ohio; two brothers, James Littlejohn of Jonesville and Rev. Johnny Burgess of Buffalo; and a special friend, Doris Greer of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest Kirby Jr. and Bobby Joe Kirby.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Shelvia Crocker Willard, age 78 of 2001 Bellamy Rd., Conway, SC, widow of Griffin Tally Willard, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Conway Medical Center.

Mrs. Willard was born in Spartanburg County, SC July 6, 1938, a daughter of the late John Louie Crocker and Ruby Burgess Crocker. She was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are two daughters: Kathy Ryan and husband Tom of Charlotte, NC and Sheena James and husband Chris of Conway, SC; two sons: Griffin Ray Willard and wife Jeanne of Fountain Inn, SC and Dennis Earl Willard and wife Sally of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Phyllis Stines of Union; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs Willard was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Brown.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Andy Willard, Anthony Willard, D.J. Willard, Jacob James, Kenneth Smith and Chris James.

Mr. Paul J. Peahuff, age 72, husband of Judy Holley Peahuff of 229 Pinegate Drive, Union,  passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Peahuff was born in Union, SC August 12, 1944, a son of the late William Calhoun Peahuff and Beulah Pearl Knox Peahuff. He was a retired contractor and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Peahuff was of the Methodist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Jason Peahuff and wife Cathy of Union; a daughter, Bridget Fowler and husband Hal of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Taylor Peahuff of Union, Madison Fowler and Luke Fowler both of Jonesville; a sister, Mary “Sis” Peterson of Gaffney; a mother-in-law, Dot Holley “Mama Dot” Weathers of the home and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Peahuff was predeceased by a brother, William Ernest Peahuff and a sister, Mary Lee.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Mary Lee Parker, age 96 of Irmo, widow of A. Leo Parker, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, SC.

Mrs. Parker was born in Chattanooga, TN December 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Thomas S. Elder and Lela Clarke Elder. She was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church  and had resided in the Cross Keys Community for twenty years. Mrs. Paker was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters: Sally Lee of Irmo and Sue Wallace-Humm of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren: Dr. Ron Wallace and wife Denise of GA, Lisa Koppe and husband Gary of Miami, FL, Michael Wallace of Orlando, FL and Jennifer Szewczak and husband John of Columbia; ten great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mrs. Donna Lee Ele, age 54, wife of Robert O. Ele of 1207 Sardis Rd., Union, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Ele was born in Westerly, RI, January 30, 1962, a daughter of Glady Hayes Martell Lawrence of CT and the late William Martell. She was formerly employed with Conso Products and with Gene’s Fine Foods in Union.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Melanie Lawson and husband Shane of Union and Jennifer Flanary of FL; three sons, Zachary Weigant of Union, Shawn Weigant and Eugene Weigant both of FL and eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn Flanary, Jared Michon, Hannah Michon, Alexis Mello, Dameon Lawson, Emma Lawson, Bradley Weigant and Matthew Weigant. Mrs. Ele was also survived by two sisters, Betty Minor of FL and Darlene Wilkins of Union; seven brothers, David Martell, Johnny Martell, Bob Martell, Fred Martell and Robin Martell all of CT, Charlie Martell of FL and Timmy Martell of OR. She was predeceased by a brother, Sonny Martell.

A memorial services will be held by the family at a later date.

Mrs. Shirley Long Robinson, age 81 of 150 Azeberry Lane, Jeffersonville, KY, formerly of Jonesville, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Ridgeway Nursing Home in Owingsville, KY. Mrs. Robinson was the widow of William Robinson.

Mrs. Robinson was born in Jonesville, SC November 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Sam Long and Grace Hodge Long. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Winchester, KY. and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Regina R. Martin and husband Dean of Spartanburg; a son, Michael “Mike” Robinson and wife Shiryl of the home; four grandchildren: Jonathan Martin and special friend Carrie Logan, James Martin and fiancé Sara Onufer all of Spartanburg, Wendy Robinson and Jason Robinson and wife Beth all of KY; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Aaron Martin of Spartanburg and a number of nieces and a nephew. Mrs. Robinson was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Varner, a brother, Eugene Long and a granddaughter, Eric Martin.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 PM Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnny Barnhart.

Visitation will be held 6:00-7:30 PM Friday in the chapel prior to the service.

Burial will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Johnny Barnhart.

Mrs. Gertrude Johnson Valentine, age 74 of 8104 Lockhart Rd., Sharon, passed away, Sunday October 16, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Valentine was born in Cincinnati, OH, October 23, 1941, a daughter of the late Troy and Bertice Johnson. 

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Valentine and wife Nikki and Sammy Valentine all of Sharon; a brother, Don Johnson and special friend, Denise Turner; two granddaughters, Sacoria Valentine-Yost and husband Jay and Sabrina Valentine; a grandson, Brandon Valentine; two great-grandchildren, Samuel Martin and Layla Martin. Mrs. Valentine was predeceased by a brother, Troy “Bubba” Johnson, Jr.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Bullock’s Creek Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Donald Earl Beheler, Sr., age 77, husband of Barbara Jean Turner Beheler, of 211 Carem Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Beheler was born October 3, 1939 in Union, SC he was reared in the home of his late grandmother, Nellie Beheler and mother, Alice B. O’Shields.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired textile worker.  Mr. Beheler was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Tammy Crawford and husband Frank of Union, Donna, Hubbard of Laurens, Sherry Beheler of Laurens, Toni White of Kings Mountain, NC and Sandy Delany of Buffalo; five sons, Justin Beheler of the home, Dustin Scruggs of the home; Kenneth Scruggs and wife Lisa of Gaffney; Donald Earl Beheler, Jr. and wife Robin of Union; and Timothy Beheler of Laurens; two sisters, Nellie Babb Cartee and Eliza Bright both of Union; two brothers, Leonard Lunsford and Frankie Lunsford both of Union; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 21, 2016 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Jarvis and Rev. Buddy Hogan. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mr. Jackie Wayne Earls, Sr., age 67, of 670 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, passed away Monday October 17, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Earls was born in Union, SC on April 2, 1949 a son of the late Horace A. Earls and Margaret Roberts Earls.  He was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  Mr. Earls owned and operated Jon Dillon’s Café and Connor D’s Fireworks.  He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was formerly employed with United Merchants Buffalo Plant.  Mr. Earls was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Surviving are two sons, Jackie W. Earls, Jr. and wife Crystal and Jonathan D. Earls and wife Natasha all of Union; two sisters, Frankie Earls Ivey of Union and Joan Earls Williford and husband “S.W.” of Hickory; four grandchildren, Jonathan Dillon Earls, Bailey Alexis Earls, Ryleigh Elizabeth Earls, and Connor Davis Earls; and his former spouse, Arlene Brooks Earls of Union.  He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Angela Renee Earls.

Funeral Services will be held 4:30 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the President Jonathan Parrish.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Morris, David Todd, Josh Todd, Michael Todd Kirby, Caleb Kirby, Dillon Earls, Mike Plantholt, and Randal Liner. Honorary pallbearers will be present and past employees of Jon Dillon’s Café.

Miss Sybil Mae Ward, age 82, formerly of Jonesville, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at her home in Spartanburg.

Miss Ward was born in Jonesville, August 15, 1934, a daughter of the late James W. Ward and Mae Storey Ward.  She was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a sister, a brother and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Pacolet United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Julie Gibson.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Donald Lee Bobo

Mr. Donald Lee “Sonny” Bobo, age 84, husband of Patsy Leonhardt Bobo of 300 Stutts Ave., passed away, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Bobo was born in Union, March 29, 1932 a son of the late Ben Hix Bobo and Pauline McCravey Bobo.  He was a retired supervisor with Cone Mill, Carlisle Plant after 40 years and a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of the Tom Alexander Sunday School Class. Mr. Bobo was a member of the Hejaz Shriners and an avid Gamecock fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Don Bobo and wife Susan of Raleigh; a grandson, Luke Bobo also of Raleigh and a sister, Ola Cabaniss of Union. Mr. Bob was predeceased by four sisters, Kathleen Moore, Faye Fowler, Jenny Heuertz and Rosanell Stalnaker; and by three brothers, Bennie Ray Bobo, Perry H. Bobo and infant William Bobo.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bobo’s nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Member of the Tom Alexander Sunday School class are ask to serve as the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:45 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the services.

The family will be at the home, 300 Stutts Ave., Union.

Frances Bishop Adams

Mrs. Frances Bishop Adams, age 85 of 104 North 5th Street, Lockhart, widow of Julius Fowler Adams, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Adams was born in Union, SC, October 15, 1930, a daughter of the late Charlie Bishop and Nellie Childers Bishop. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Adams was a faithful member of Lockhart Church of God where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Surviving are a daughter, Amy Wood and fiancé Daniel Ritchie of Chesnee; grandchildren: Amber Wood of the home and Joshua Wood of Lockhart; a great-grandchild, Harper Wood of Lockhart and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by two brothers, J.F. Bishop and Ernest Bishop.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Lockhart Church of God conducted by Rev. Allen McKee and Rev. Russell Miles. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jackie Gaston, Brian Gaston, Tim Turner, Zackery Turner, Travis Bishop and Jeffery Queen.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Richard A. Farmer

Mr. Richard A. Farmer, age 69, of 140 Whispering Pines Dr., Buffalo, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Farmer was born on January 30, 1947 in Newberry, SC a son of the late Clyde Farmer and Margie Sanders Farmer.  He was a graduate of Union High School where he was an All-Region Football player.  Mr. Farmer was retired from Torrington Company and a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving are two sons, Jack Farmer and wife Sara of Charlotte and Matthew Farmer of Union; one sister, Phyllis Ingle and husband Ronnie of Union; one brother, Stanley Farmer of New Mexico; and one granddaughter, Ava Farmer of Charlotte. He was predeceased by one brother, Dennis Farmer.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Crestview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Josh Freeman, Rev. Brad Goodale, and Rev. Bill Randall.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Thursday prior to the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, 1100 Furman L. Fendley Hwy, Union, SC 29379.
