Larry Gene Baldwin

“Pee Wee”

Mr. Larry Gene “Pee Wee” Baldwin, age 56 of 236 South St., Buffalo, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Baldwin was born in Union, October 3, 1959, a son of the late Roy Baldwin and Bobbie Jean Roark Baldwin Pitt. Mr. Baldwin was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are his companion of 20 years, Jane Lawson of Jonesville; three sisters, Joyce Dobson of Clover, Freda Taylor and Mary Ann Vaughn both of Buffalo; a brother, Ricky Baldwin of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Neil Keisler.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Michael Lee Crocker
Union, SC


Mr. Michael Lee Crocker, age 35, husband of Libby Schrader Crocker of 210 Long Twelve Avenue, Union, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015.  He was born in Union, SC on June 4, 1980, a son of Ernest and Cindy Crocker of Union and the late Tammy Lisa Riddle. Mr. Crocker was employed with Kendall Austin Construction and attended Philipp Baptist Church.  He was a loving son, husband and father and was lovingly called “Unc” by many children. 

Surviving in addition to his parents and wife are a daughter, Nevaeh Breakfield, a son, Craig Crocker, and a stepdaughter, Madison Woods, all of the home and a sister, Lindsey Crocker of Union.  Michael is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Crocker, godparents, Craig and Gwen Price all of Buffalo and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was also the much loved son-in-law of Richard and Beth Lewis.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Philippi Baptist Church  conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 PM Sunday prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Michael Crocker Fund in care of Founders Federal Union, 523 North Duncan Bypass, Union, SC  29379.

The family will be at the home, 210 Long Twelve Ave., Union and at the home of his parents, Ernest and Cindy Crocker, 617 Bailey Rd., Union. 


Paul Nicholas Davis
Union, SC


Mr. Paul Nicholas “Nick” Davis, age 33 of 171 Martin Rd., Union, passed away October 29, 2015.

He was born in Union, November 8, 1981 a son of Virginia Walters “Gini” Davis of the home and Harley Eugene “Gene” Davis and wife Melinda of Union.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Tristen Kylie Nicole Davis; a sister, Nicole Davis and a brother, Daniyel “D.D.” Davis all of Union.  Nick is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Randall Craig Allison

Mr. Randall Craig Allison, age 53, of 107 Cornwell St., Union, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Allison was born in Union, SC on November 25, 1961 a son of the late Richard Allison and Louise Phillips Allison.  He was previously employed with Jordan Oil Company and Henderson Plumbing.

Surviving are a daughter, Amber Allison of Buffalo; four brothers, Neal Allison of North Carolina, Steve Allison of Maine, Dennis Allison of Maine, and Jeff Allison of Buffalo.  He was predeceased by brother, Ricky Allison and three sisters, Shirley Allison, Madona Allison, and Joyce Dezern. 

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 30, 2015 at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Paul Childers.  Visitation will be held immediately following the services.

The family is at their respective homes.

Marie Atkinson
Ridgeland, SC


Mrs. Marie Price Atkinson made her transition to be in the presence of the Lord on October 24, 2015.

Marie, also known as “Sister”, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was born June 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Frank and Lilllie Waldrop Price. Marie was a graduate of Union High School and Piedmont School of Cosmetology. She was formerly employed with Glamour Salon and was the owner and operator of Marie’s Wig Shop in Union. Marie had also worked at Quincy’s Steak House and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Marie is survived by her two daughters, whom she loved dearly, Donna Marie Mayes (Bryan) and Melanie Ann Hodge; three grandchildren: Eric Davis (Nicole), Allyson Davis (Dashia) and Dyllan Mayes (Tori); seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Dray, Logan, Alexis, Tray, Raiden and Liam. She is also survived by her sisters, Lillie Garner, Margie Cope and Minnie McCraw; many nieces and nephews; several “Grand Pets” whom she found great comfort with; her close friends, Donnie Berry and Betty Atkinson. Marie is predeceased by her husand Jimmy Donald Atkinson, siblings, Betty Mallett, Frances Henderson, Arthur Price, George “Brother” Price, Lawerance Price and Earl Price and also her precious son, Rod Atkinson.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with visitation starting at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Rev. Glenn Ribelin will lead us in the celebration of life service.

The family is at the home of her grandson, Eric and Nicole Davis, 229 Belvue Drive, Union.

Johnny M. Hines
Greenville, SC


Mr. Johnny Morrow Hines, age 72, husband of Terri Brandon Hines of 5 Branif Lane, Greenville, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Hines was born in Union, March 11, 1943 a son of the late John Lewis Hines, Sr. and Doris Allen Hines.   He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from H.T. Hackney in Greenville. Mr. Hines was employed part-time with Toyota of Easley.  He was a member of Brandon Baptist Church and was also a veteran of the US Air Force.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jerri H. Fuller and husband John of Simpsonville; a granddaughter, Courtney Fuller of Simpsonville; a sister, Nancy Hines of Greenwood and a brother, John Hines of Union.  He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Bradburn and three brothers, Joe Lewis Hines, Wishie Hines and Fay Hines.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Brandon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Roger Couch.          

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 25 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Henry Earl Crocker
Union, SC


Mr. Henry Earl Crocker, age 87 of 828 Meansville Rd., Union, widower of Lillie Mae Boulware Crocker, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Crocker was born in Union, September 29, 1928, a son of the late Elzie and Ila Harrison Crocker. He was retired after 49 years with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a member of Putman Baptist Church.  Mr. Crocker was an old fashioned rancher having raised cows and loved to ride his special horse “Buck” who predeceased him.  He was an avid hunter and was on record as being the first man in Union Co. to harvest a deer with a traditional bow and arrow since the Indians.

Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn C. Inman; two sons, Douglas Crocker and wife Lynne and Paul Crocker and wife Joanie; a sister, Thelma C. Smith; a brother, John Crocker all of Union; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Crocker was predeceased by a granddaughter, Michelle Crocker and a sister, Ruth Smith.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Walter Holcombe. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Gene Crocker, Dennis Crocker, Mike Smith, Tim Shull, Lannis Grubbs and Bobby Joe Grubbs.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Saturday at the chapel prior to the services.

Joe Martin Gregg

Mr. Joe Martin Gregg, age 71, husband of Carol Evans Gregg of 659 Alman Street, Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mr. Gregg was born in Union, SC November 17, 1943, a son of the late Frank Gregg, Sr. and Millie Turner Gregg. He attended Jonesville High School and retired from INA in Spartanburg. Mr. Gregg was a veteran of the SC National Guard. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-eight years are two daughters: Angela “Sissy” Mabry and husband Tim of Gaffney and Marsha Vinson of Jonesville; three sisters: Hattie Addis of Jonesville, Nell Gregg of Union and Margaret Guyton of Gaffney; five grandchildren: David Vinson of Jonesville, Thomas Mabry, Joseph Mabry, Daniel Mabry and Michael Mabry all of Gaffney.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 23, 2015 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service.

ESSIE MERLE VINSON

Mrs. Essie Merle Eaves Vinson age 90, formerly 4712 of Lockhart Hwy., widow of Everette Lafayette Vinson, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Union, July 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Paul Revere Eaves and Sibbie Morris Eaves.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant.  Mrs. Vinson was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Church Choir and the Marion Conard Sunday School Class. She loved to sing and loved her church and church family dearly.  She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Audrey Vinson Boler of the home; two granddaughters, Mariah Lee Boler of the home and Malerie Harris Greer and husband Jeffrey of Union; a grandson, Adam Wesley Harris and wife Shelley of Pauline; a sister, Kitty Vinson of Union; four great-grandchildren, Lilly Harris and Colton Harris of Pauline and Aydin Greer and Wesley Greer of Union and numerous nieces and nephew. Mrs. Vinson was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Vinson Harris; three sisters, Ann Sprouse, Laura Comer and Mary Sybil Eaves; and five brothers, Bill, Ralph, Ed, Weldon and Jimmy Dean Eaves.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jimmy Harper and Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Cornelia Farmer Huggins, 1924-2015

Cornelia (Neely) Farmer Huggins of Union, SC entered into rest Friday, October 16, 2015 at NHC Healthcare in Laurens, SC. Born March 7, 1924 in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Ansel Farmer and Minnie Lockhart Farmer. She was the loving wife of Bruce Huggins for 63 years before his death in 2004. After a long career in the beauty industry, she retired as owner and operator of Ginger’s Beauty Salon.  She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a choir member for many years. She spent untold hours preparing food in the church kitchen for Lenten lunches and church celebrations. She was an expert needle worker and some of her embroidery pieces are displayed at Grace UMC. She knitted and crocheted and was known for her baking skills.

Neely and Bruce spent much of their time caring for family members young and not so young. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her sister Virginia Walker of Union and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, by whom she was dearly loved. She is predeceased by her sister Beatrice Farmer Champion and by her brothers Ralph Farmer, Alvin Farmer, and Ansel Farmer, Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at graveside
3 pm, Monday, October 19
at Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace UMC, 201 S. Church Street, Union, SC 29379.

Robert “Greasy” Lawson
Lockhart, SC


The family of Robert “Greasy” Lawson celebrates his homecoming on October 16, 2015. He was born August 21, 1942 in Pauline, a son of the late R.C. Lawson and Mae M. Lawson. Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Nancy Cooper Lawson.

He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Mr. Lawson was retired from the SC State Transport Police and was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult II Sunday School Class.  He was a lifetime member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge #244 and the Union York Rite Bodies.
 
Mr. Lawson was the loving father of Kim L. Clayton (Charles) and Tony Lawson (Lisa). Also surviving are four grandchildren: Haley C. Riddle (Joey), Kristin Clayton, Jack Lawson and Mason Lawson; three sisters: Ruby Gettys, Dot Gibson, and Betty Stepp and two special sisters, Pat V. Justus and Beth V. Bevis. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by a son, Bobby Lawson. “Greasy” as he was affectionately known by his friends, was far from ordinary and all who knew him would agree. He was always full of life and laughter; and no matter what, his love for his family and his love for the Lord was what was most important to him.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 18, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton and Rev. Ben Hill. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Pallbearers will be Gary Wright, Alvin Justus, Danny Williams, Greg Walker, Bobby Clayton, Fuzzy Woods, Harvey Peeler, Dean Bentley and Dale Inman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Adult II Sunday School Class, former co-workers of the State Transport Police, members of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge #244, Dr. Robert Wentz, Johnny Martin and Wayne Allen.

Mr. Everette Eugene “Gene” McCullough, age 67, husband of Denise Woodall McCullough of Boiling Springs NC, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his home.

Mr. McCullough was born in Union, January 16, 1948, a son of Bertie Mae Ogle McCullough of Jonesville and the late George Everette McCullough.  He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was raised in Jonesville Baptist Church.  Mr. McCullough was an accomplished baseball player and avid golfer.  In 2013, he was inducted into the Union Co. Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. McCullough and his wife ran a locally owned business, Shelby Cleaners, and he was formerly employed with Fox Distributing and with the Cleveland Co. Boys Club. Mr. McCullough was a veteran of the US Army and served with the S.C. National Guard. He attended Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, Lt. Col.(US Air Force) Bryan McCullough of CA and Mason McCullough, who is a professional baseball player employed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in their minor league organization; a grandson, Ayden McCullough also of CA;  his step-father, Bobby Bryant of Jonesville and his mother-in-law, Margaret Woodall of Forest City, NC.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, evening October 19, 2015 at the Boiling Springs Baptist Church, 307 S. Main St., Boiling Springs, NC  28017.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Jonesville Baptist Church, 301 Church St., Jonesville, SC  29353. The family will received friends from 10:00 until 11:30 AM Tuesday at the church prior to the services.

Burial with Military Honors will be at Cleveland Memorial Park, 1225 College Ave., Shelby, NC 28152 at 3:00 PM Tuesday.

Mrs. Hazel Lawson Bobo, age 85, wife of 67 years to Samuel M. Bobo of 212 Davis St., Union, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Bobo was born in Cross Keys, January 6, 1930, a daughter of the late Roy T. and Pearl Lawson. She was retired from Conso Products and was previously employed with Milliken Co., Ottaray Plant.  Mrs. Bobo was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faye Teague Sunday School Class and the Frances Roberts Circle. Mrs. Bobo and her husband were member of the Order of the Amaranth, Union Lodge.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Teresa Henderson and husband Tony of Union, two sons, Samuel E. “Gene”  Bobo, Sr. and wife Kathy of Union and Donald Ray Bobo, Sr. of Spartanburg; a sister, Carol Cookson and husband Harold “Bud” of Union; a brother, Harold Lawson and wife Bobbie Jean of Pacolet; seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bobo was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Gloria Bobo; six sisters, Lizzie Mae Crawford, Gladys Boulware, Lena Bobo, Mildred Lawson, Martha Copeland and Myrtle Weaver; and two brothers, States Lawson and R.T. Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gullige, Rev. Benny Green, and Chaplain Tim Thompson.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Michael Dean Carroll, age 62 of 833 River St., Clifton, widower of Teresa Wiggins Carroll , passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015.

Mr. Carroll was born in Cleveland, NC, June 9, 1953, a son of the late Jeff Augustus Carroll and Carrie Navey Carroll. 

Surviving are a daughter, Tiffany C. Queen and husband Richie of Pacolet; a son, Michael Dean Carroll, Jr. and wife Shannon of Lyman; a sister, Becky Davis and husband Larry of Union; four brothers, Coleman Carroll and wife Claudia of Union, Tom Carroll and wife Sandra, Steve Carroll and wife Joann all of Spartanburg and Pete Carroll and wife Brenda of Kings Mountain, NC. Mr. Carroll was also survived by 5 grandchildren and 29 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ethel Hammett and Jean Ramsey Carroll and a brother, Dennis Carroll.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Billy Elder.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Angela A. Mayson

Mrs. Angela Alexander Mayson, age 52, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Lexington Medical Center after a thirteen year battle with breast cancer.  Mrs. Mayson was the wife of 25 years of Morgan H. Mayson of 241 Sandstone Rd., Columbia, SC.

Mrs. Mayson was born in Union, January 21, 1963, a daughter of Carroll H. Alexander, Sr. and Brenda Sims Alexander of Union. She was a graduate of Union High School and a 1985 graduate of Benau University in Gainesville, GA.  Mrs. Mayson was a 25 year employee with S.C. Farm Bureau and was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a daughter, Alexis Morgan Mayson and a son, Kyle Hampton Mayson both of the home; two brothers, Carroll H. Alexander, Jr and wife Michelle of Union and Chris Alexander and wife Jenifer of Columbia; her mother-in-law: Helen Mayson of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law; Victoria Mastrovito and husband Nick of Check, VA and a brother-in-law; Charles Mayson and wife Shelia of Petersburg, VA, and several nieces and nephews.

Jase McBride Eaves, infant son of Eric McBride Eaves and Shana Ivey Eaves of 138 Whitlock Lake Rd., Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Brittnee Ivey of Whitmire; two brothers, Gage Eaves and Zeek Eaves of the home; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Pam Ivey of St. Lucie, FL; paternal grandparents, James “Cotton” and Emily Eaves of Jonesville and two nephews, Wren and Noah Shouse.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cannon.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

The family will be at the home, 138 Whitlock Lake Rd., Jonesville, SC 29353.

Mary Frances Sherfield
Buffalo, SC


Mrs. Mary Frances Heatherly Sherfield, age 82, wife of 65 years to Paul Sherfield of 610 Mudbridge Rd., Buffalo, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Sherfield was born in Buffalo, May 30, 1933, a daughter of the late George and Eunice Cothran Heatherly. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and formerly employed with Wallace Thomson Hospital and Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Sherfield was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Judy Bobo and husband James Ray of Buffalo and Jean Horne and husband Kenneth of Union; a sister, Shirley Heatherly of Buffalo; three grandchildren, Chris Bobo, Nikki Walls and Michelle Crocker; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sherfield was predeceased by a son, Ted William Sherfield and two sisters, Louise Bogan and Joyce Moss.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Greg Black and Rev. Glen Ribelin.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Kathy D. Garner
Jonesville, SC


Mrs. Kathy D. Garner, age 66, of 1194 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Garner was born in Union, SC on March 23, 1949 a daughter of the late Bobby L. Thomas and Dorothy McCullough Lovings.  She was a graduate of Spartanburg Community College where she earned a degree in Surgical Technology.  Mrs. Garner worked at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she was a certified Surgical Technologist.  She later retired from York Technical College as the head of the Surgical Technology Department.  Mrs. Garner was a member of the Association of Surgical Technologist and was also active with the Operation Smile Organization.

Surviving are a son, Hal Garner and wife Ivy of Union; a daughter, Tracy Smith of Jonesville; two sisters, Phyllis Rogers and husband Jim of Pacolet and Myra Dameron of Jonesville; two brothers, Gregg Sanford and wife Sonya of Jonesville and Richard Lovings and wife Laura of Union; and three grandchildren who were the light of her life, Holli Barnes, Emma Garner, and Abby Garner.  She was predeceased by one brother, Boyd E. Sanford.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2015 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Alan West.  Visitation will follow immediately following the services.

Carolyn Hayes Culbreath
Spartanburg, SC


Mrs. Carolyn Hayes Culbreath, age 80 formerly of Woodruff, residing at White Oak Estates, Spartanburg, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at Regional Hospice Home. She was the widow of William Theodore Culbreath.

Mrs. Culbreath was born in Mayo, SC July 30, 1935, a daughter of the late Hosea Hayes and Mary Price Hayes. She was a graduate of Chesnee High School, Spartanburg Methodist College and also a graduate of Lander College. Mrs. Culbreath was a former school teacher and  also worked in the family business, Woodruff Hardware and Farm Supply. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodruff where she was Sunday School teacher and was very active in various organizations of the community.

Surviving are a daughter, Anna C. Nichols (Glenn) of Dothan, AL; a son, William T. Culbreath, II (Susan) of Woodruff; a brother, Hugh Hayes of Spartanburg; four grandchildren: Adam, Matthew and Cameron Nichols of Alabama and Sergey Culbreath of Woodruff. Mrs. Culbreath was predeceased by a brother, Monty Hayes.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 4, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Woodruff, 801 Cross Anchor Rd., Woodruff, SC 29388, conducted by Rev. Andrew Shull.

Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens.

Lucille Davis Burnett

Mrs. Lucille Davis Burnett, age 84, widow of Jack F. Burnett, Jr., formerly of 395 Old Buncombe Rd., Union, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mrs. Burnett was born in Union, SC on June 15, 1931 a daughter of the late Norman V. Davis and Gertrude Estes Davis.  She was first married to the late Richard T. Sizemore. Mrs. Burnett was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Excel Hosiery.  She was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and helped in the nursery.

Surviving are a son, Rick Sizemore and wife Lynne of Roebuck; a daughter, Elaine Chitwood of Union; four step children, Jack Burnett, III and wife Tina, Mary Joe Sanders and husband Maxie, Jim Burnett, and John Burnett all of Cross Keys; two grandchildren, Kelsey Lynn and husband Justin of Spartanburg and Tyler Sizemore of Roebuck; four step-grandchildren Kevin Sanders, Lacey Burnett, Jonathan Burnett and wife Meagan, and Jenny Langenfeld and husband John; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Burnett was predeceased by a brother, Robert F Davis.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Monday, October 5, 2015 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Chaplain Rich Brown.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Justin Lynn, Tyler Sizemore, Keith Davis, and Lewis Davis.  The nurses and staff of Medi Home Hospice are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 1:45 until 2:45 PM at the church prior to the services.

Mr. Charles Lawrence Malpass, age 79, of 158 Haney Rd., Buffalo, widower of Bebe Lawson Malpass, passed away, Thursday, October 1, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Malpass was born in Union Co., July 22, 1936, a son of the late Charles Franklin Malpass and Ruby Epps Malpass. He was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard.  Mr. Malpass was a member of the former Faith Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Donnie Mac Malpass and Ricky Lynn Malpass both of Buffalo; a daughter-in-law, Sherree P. Malpass of the home; three sisters, Sally Joe Amiker, Rosey Banister, and Patricia Spires all of Orangeburg; two brothers, John Wayne Malpass of NC and David Malpass of Orangeburg; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Mr. Malpass was predeceased by a son, Danny Ray Malpass and a sister, Shirley Van Buren.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, October 3 2015 at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson. 

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the services.

Peggy Lou Crawford Vaughan

Mrs. Peggy Lou Crawford Vaughan, age 86, widow of Biron B. “Jake” Vaughan passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Vaughan was born in Union, SC on April 12, 1929 a daughter of the late Herod Simpson Crawford and Ella Keisler Crawford.  She was raised in Thornwell Orphanage from childhood until she graduated from Thornwell High School.  Mrs. Vaughan worked for Conso Products as a machine operator.  She was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the choir and served on the Hostess and Greeter Committees. 

Surviving are a son, Simp Vaughan and wife Patty of Union; a daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Crain of Moncks Corner; five grandchildren, Megan Vaughan Dunlap and husband Kal, Whitney Lynn Vaughan, Shannon Michelle Brock, James Clayton Brock and wife Wendy, and Heather Ann Graham; five great-grandchildren, Bailey Clayton Brock, Ellyson Brock, Lily Graham, Luke Graham, and James Vaughan Dunlap; one sister, Marguerite C. Greer; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Vaughan was predeceased by two sisters, Aurie Wingo and Josephine Belue; one brother, Jack Crawford; and one niece, Joyce Belue.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Chapman, Rev. Tommy McManus, and Mr. Jerry Gossett.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be, Paul Greer, II, Paul Greer, III, Robbie Branham, Dennis Moore, Michael Tyler, Clay Brock, and Kal Dunlap.  The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Frances Greer, Frances Brasington, Frances Edwards, Fran Belk, and Mary Ann Bell.  Members of Mrs. Vaughan’s Sunday School Class and the staff of Heartland Nursing Home and Assisted Living are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
