Danny Morrow

Mr. Danny Morrow, age 69, husband of Phyllis Greene Morrow of 1178 Sardis Rd., Union, passed away Friday, November 29, 2019 at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC.

Mr. Morrow was born in Spartanburg, May 11, 1950, a son of the late Sam Morrow and Lois Lawson Morrow. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and was a retired district manager with Diversco. Mr. Morrow was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a granddaughter, Raven Morrow of the home; daughter, Christy Grooves of Union; and a brother, Larry Morrow of Spartanburg. Mr. Morrow was predeceased by a brother, Sammy Morrow.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Sardis United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jeff Farmer and Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM Tuesday at Sardis United Methodist Church prior to the funeral services.

Edna Stone Jenkins
Buffalo, SC


Mrs. Edna Stone Jenkins, age 96, widow of Robert Jenkins, Jr., of 2615 Buffalo West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Jenkins was born January 30, 1923 in Cross Anchor a daughter of the late Byrd Hix Stone and Nora Watson Stone.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Torrington & Co.  She was the oldest current member of Buffalo United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jenkins was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

Surviving are a daughter, Katie Lenora Jenkins; a daughter-in-law, Patty Valentine Jenkins; two grandchildren, Mark Stanley Jenkins and wife Amy and Matthew Elliott Jenkins and wife Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren, Martha Kate Jenkins, Mary Tinsley Jenkins, Lansing James Jenkins, Evelyn Paige Jenkins, Elliott Stone Jenkins, Michael Lancaster, and Abby Lancaster; and a niece and several nephews and their families.  She was predeceased by a son, Robert Stanley Jenkins; a daughter-in-law, Martha Elliott Jenkins; a sister, Sara Stone Sykes and husband Woodrow; and three brothers, Byrd Lee Stone and wife Janet, Thomas Henry Stone and wife Lois, and James Hubert Stone and wife Grace. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Miriam Mick and Rev. Kevin Dalton.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior at Buffalo United Methodist Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Stone, Jimmy Stone, Jimmy Sykes and Jimmy Johnson.

Robin Annette Palmer

Mrs. Robin Annette Palmer, age 60, wife of Gene Palmer of 220 Estes Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Palmer was born May 13, 1959 in Union, a daughter of the late Bobby Lanier and Lois Bright Lanier.   She was retired from Ace Sweater and Sonoco Products Company.  Mrs. Palmer was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church and had attended Salvation Army.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Bobby Gene Palmer and wife Mary of Union; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Palmer of Union; two sisters, Dianne Thomas of Greenwood and Karen Lanier of Union. Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by three brothers, Jerry Lanier, Michael Lanier, and Randy Lanier. 

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Martha Toney. 

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.


Sandra Kay “Sandy” Harris
Jonesville, S.C.


Mrs. Sandra Kay “Sandy” Harris, age 72, wife of James “Stan” Harris of 228 Proctor Rd., Jonesville, passed away Thursday November 28, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Harris was born in Union, April 21,1947, a daughter of the late John Henry Finney and Rachel Marie Webber Finney. She was a graduate of Okemos High School in Michigan and retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital in the Emergency Dept.  Mrs. Harris was a kind, considerate and beautiful daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Rhonda Harris of Jonesville and Barbara Jean “BJ” Lillard and husband Vaden of Simpsonville; two sisters, Wanda Burris and Kathy Worthy and husband “Fat Baby” all of Whitmire; two granddaughters, Nicole Liggett of Spartanburg and Hannah Harris of Jonesville; three grandsons, Cody Groves of Jonesville, Peyton Lillard and Spencer Lillard both of Simpsonville; four great-grandchildren, Destiney Lawson, Troy Liggett, Aliah Liggett and Layton Taylor and a special friend, Debbie Morris.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Wayne Gassaway. Burial will be in the Webber Family Cemetery in Jonesville.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Worthy, Phil Poole, Mike Walker, Dallas Miller, Trey Whitener, Alan-Mikel Stanley and Nathaniel Stanley.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Sunday at the chapel prior to the services.

Norma Vaughn Henderson
Union, SC


Mrs. Norma Vaughn Henderson, age 88, of 1400 W. Main St., Union, widow of Leo B. Henderson, Jr., passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Henderson was born July 4, 1931 in Gaffney, a daughter of the late Roy Stewart Vaughn and Martha McCraw Vaughn. She was retired from Conso Products.  Norma was a Charter Member of New Life Baptist Church, where she served for many years on the hostess and meal bereavement committees.  She was happiest when she was in her kitchen and the church kitchen cooking for her loved ones.  It broke her heart when she had to step down as her health declined.  Recently Norma developed a passion for coloring and spent many hours coloring her pretty flowers.  She left a legacy of love and a servant’s heart.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Penland and husband Ronny and Pam Elliott and husband Stanley all of Union; a son, Mike Henderson of Union; two sisters, Jane Jones of Georgia and Annette Jones of Newberry; two brothers-in-law, Bobby “Doc” Henderson of Jonesville and Raeford Pugh of NC; a sister-in-law, Janet Vaughn of Spartanburg; a grandson, Shane Henderson; two great-granddaughters, Summer Owens and Savannah Henderson; three step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchild,  one step-great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Pugh and a brother, Joe Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 29, 2019 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Todd Davis, and Rev. Ron Culbertson. Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Williams, Jeff Benson, Joey Gregory, Tim Henderson, Paul Sanders, and Robbie Vinson.  The Ladies and Men’s Senior Adult Sunday School Class and those from Kindred Home that took such great care of her are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mr. Brandon Lee Parker, age 25, of 119 Skyview Dr., Lockhart, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019.

Brandon was born in Union, October 15, 1994, a son of Selissa Crawford Melton and husband Scott of Chester and Roger Parker and wife Kasie of Union. He attended Union County High School and was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church. Brandon was formerly employed with Gonvato in Union.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Aria Leigh Stewart of Union; a son, Karter Alexander Parker of Whitmire; a sister, Ashlynn Parker of Union; three brothers, Gavyn Gregory of Chester, Jaxon Parker and Maddux Parker of Union; his maternal grandfather, Fred Crawford, Jr. of York; his paternal grandparents, Mike and Debbie Parker of Lockhart; two aunts, Brandy Parker of Chester and Nancy Rebecca Harrison of Union; and a number of cousins.

Brandon was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Cherri Hope and his maternal great-grandparents, David and Nancy Hope.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Sam Baine.  Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the services.

The family will be at the home of his mother, 739 William Woods Rd., Chester and his father, 139 Greenway Ave., Union.


Pearley L. Lipsey
Spartanburg, S.C.




Mrs. Pearley L. (Susie) Lipsey, age 75, widow of Leroy Lipsey, passed away in Spartanburg, SC after an extended illness. 

Mrs. Lipsey was born in Union on December 29, 1943, to the late Lauty Lee and Essie Joblin Malpass.  She lived her entire life in Union where she attended school and worked at the Union Plant of United Merchants and several restaurants before retiring on disability. Susie enjoyed walking, going out to eat and singing.  She frequently sang with local groups at weekly events. Susie was a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Johnnie M. Malpass of Lake Dallas, Texas and Robert (Bob) Malpass (wife Ann) of Cayce, SC.  Mrs. Lipsey was preceded in death by brothers Eugene (Buck), Arthur (Red), Melvin Malpass and sisters Dorothy M. Ivey and Betty M. Nelson. 

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum conducted by Rev. Timothy Farmer.

Olin Knox

Mr. Olin Knox, age 89, of 178 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Jonesville, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 23, 2019.

Mr. Knox was born in Union Co., October 9, 1930, a son of the late John L. Knox and Nannie Cobb Knox.  He was retired after 40 plus years with Uni-Blend Spinners, United Merchants, Union Plant. Mr. Knox was a faithful member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was a member of Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge #203. He was the last surviving of ten  children in his family.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle K. Quinn and husband Denny with whom he made his home; a son, Jonathan Olin Knox of Union; three grandsons, Phillip Quinn and wife Amanda, Kolby Knox and wife Kinslee and Kane Quinn and fiancée Lindsey Murphy; one great grandson, Bennett Quinn and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the staff and nurses of Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dustin Madala and Rev. Mike Scales. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Barry Douglas Davis
Eutawville, S.C.


Mr. Barry Douglas Davis, age 53 of Eutawville, SC, passed away November 16, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Davis was born in Union, June 28, 1966, a son of George Douglas Davis and wife JoAnn Davis of Waterloo and the late Victory Turner Davis.  He was a graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the US Army, Infantry.

Surviving in addition to his father and stepmother are a daughter, Miranda D. Swigart; a son, Jonathon Davis; and two brothers, Larry Wayne Davis of Texas and Terry Lynn Davis of Union.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.


Mary (Maxine) Sherbert
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Mary (Maxine) Sherbert, 87, widow of William E. Sherbert went to be with Jesus on November 21, 2019 at her home 105 Louise Street, Union.

Mrs. Sherbert was born in Canton, NC on May 18,1932. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Connie Hall Moore of Union. She was a homemaker for many years. 

Surviving are a daughter Kathy Varner and husband Tim of the home and a special "adopted" daughter Cheryl Wilkins of Union. Mrs. Sherbert was predeceased by two daughters Audrey Sherbert and Susan Hamby both of Union. She was the last surviving member of her family. 

Private graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Miriam Mick.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Laurens County for their care and compassion over the past few months.

Mrs. Rhonda McCutcheon Davis, age 58, wife of Rick Davis of 1241 Mudbridge Rd., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Davis was born in Union, October 25, 1961, a daughter of Nancy Black McCutcheon of Union and the late Richard McCutcheon and the late John Pettit. Mrs. Davis retired as a manager with Dollar General and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Krissy Davis and partner Stephanie Miller of Charlotte, NC; a son, John Richard Matthew Davis and fiancée Angie Mayhorn of the home; two sisters, Lisa Williams and husband Robin of Bufford, GA and Jennifer McCutcheon of Buffalo; two brothers, Richard McCutcheon and wife Kristen of Knoxville, TN and Robert McCutcheon of Buffalo; a granddaughter, Jordan Vaughn of the home; step-mother, Annette Pettit Garner of Union and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. McCutcheon was predeceased by a daughter, Amanda Vaughn and a sister, Annette Stebbins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Scott and Rev. Robert Jarvis.

Leroy “Hank” Frost

Mr. Leroy “Hank” Frost, age 88, of Buffalo, SC, widower of Lillie Mae Harris Frost, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at White Oak Manor in Spartanburg.

Mr. Frost was born in Union, March 11, 1931, a son of the late Arthur R. Malpass and Pearl Frost McGowan.  He was retired from Torrington and previously worked with Milliken. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir.  He was a well-known musician and singer and enjoyed singing at several of the local opera houses in Union county. 

Surviving are a daughter, Louise Frost of Joanna; a son, Dennis Frost and wife, Leesa, of Union; three sisters, Lucy Puckett and husband Arthur, of Union, Peggy Garner and husband Wayne of Union, and Sadie Sumner and husband Roger, of Buffalo; two brothers, J.W. McGowan, Jr. and wife Bobbie of Union and Jack McGowan of Anaheim, California; two step-daughters, Brenda Belue of Union and Sandy Wade and husband Joe, of Union; two grandchildren, Tina Frost and Michelle F. Easler; a two step-grandchildren, Melissa Risher and Brian Hill; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. Frost was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Helton and Betty Jean McGowan and three brothers, Arthur Frost, Ted McGowan and Bobby McGowan. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 22, 2019 at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz.

Mr. Carl Edward Queen, age 85, widower of Revia M. Edwards Queen, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Queen was born in Union, February 20, 1934, a son of the late William P. Queen and Bessie Frost Queen. He retired from Cone Mill Carlisle Finishing and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Queen was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Navy.

Surviving are four sons, Lecil Smith and wife Sara of Union, Phillip Queen of York, Chris Queen and wife Deanne of Denver, CO and Pat Queen and wife Carla of Union; a sister, Mary Cameron of Union; grandchildren, Bailey McAbee, Phillip Queen, Jr., Leslie Anuthirakula, Nicki Dolin, Julie Martin, Alisa Queen, Paige Queen, Christina Stevens, Michael Smith, Rebecca Pearson and Danielle Fitch; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Mr. Queen was predeceased by a son, Donnie Smith, a daughter-in-law, Lisa Queen, two sisters, Lib Stepp and Daisy Smith and a brother, George Queen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Queen’s grandchildren and their spouses will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruth LaPierre Barnett, age 70, of 111 South St., Buffalo, SC., widow of Floyd Donald Barnett, Sr., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 16, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Connecticut, July 17, 1949 a daughter of the late Charles Edward LaPierre and Helen Frances Hesselman.

Surviving are a son, Shane Barnett of the home; a daughter, Arlene Barnett of Buffalo; a brother, Charles LaPierre and wife, Katherine of Buffalo; a sister, Judith Cannon of Union; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Floyd Donald Barnett, Jr., a sister, Pauline Pollander, and two brothers, George “Buster” LaPierre and James “Jimmy” Hesselman.

Mr. Harold Dean O’Dell, Jr., age 66, of 4357 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019.

Mr. O’Dell was born in Union, April 1, 1953, a son of Peggy Farr O’Dell of the home and the late Harold Dean O’Dell, Sr.  He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and had worked in the construction industry.  Mr. O’Dell was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother is a son, Wesley Greer and wife Lauren of Spartanburg. Mr. O’Dell was predeceased by a son Jeremiah O’Dell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz.  Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Bobby F. Vaughan
Union, S.C.


Mr. Bobby Franklin Vaughan, age 84, of 2500 Lockhart Hwy., went to be with the Lord Friday, November 15, 2019 at Union Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Pamela Weed Vaughan.

Mr. Vaughan was born in Union, April 14, 1935, a son of the late Elbert and Frances Vanderford Vaughan. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended Gardner-Webb College. Mr. Vaughan retired from the City of Union Utility Dept and had previously worked for Milliken and Co. for 15 years.  He was a life-long member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder, the Clerk of Session and Associate Sunday School superintendent. Mr. Vaughan was a former Boy Scout with troop #48.

Mr. Vaughan was a veteran of the US Navy having served his country for eight years and a 59-year member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Union Co. High School Booster Club and a member of the Gamecock Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Jeffrey Vaughan of Fort Bragg, NC and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Miss Baker was born in Newberry, March 12, 1971, a daughter of Gaius Baker and Karen Jones.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Crystal Baker and Thomas Moore of Union; two sisters, Kathy Mitchell and Cynthia Baker both of Union; two grandchildren, Ryot Baker and Trace Moore; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Joyce Lawson Freeman, age 78, wife of Alexander Freeman, Jr., formerly of Lakeview Heights, Union, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Woodruff Manor.

Mrs. Freeman was born in Glendale, October 29, 1941, a daughter of the late Marion and Pearl Knighton Lawson.  She was a graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from Her Majesty in Union. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a granddaughter, Marah Robinson; a grandson, Jacob Robinson; her son-in-law, Marty Robinson all of Union; a sister, Judy Howard of Alabama; a brother, Tom Lawson and wife Helen of Spartanburg and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Freeman was predeceased by a daughter, Melinda Freeman Robinson and four sisters and five brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 15, 2019 at Union Memorial Garden conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon.

Mr. Daniel Thomas Childers, Jr., age 28, of 3667 Jonesville Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019.

Daniel was born in Chester Co., August 9, 1991, a son of Daniel Thomas “Tommy” Childers, Sr. and Virginia Barker Childers of the home. He was a graduate of Union Co. High School and was formerly employed with Gestamp.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters, Skylar Ryne Childers and Alexis Starr Childers of Lockhart. Daniel is also survived by several cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Lockhart Cemetery conducted by Rev. Sam Baine.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Betty L. Gossett, widow of Dean Gossett of Pacolet, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Gossett was born in Pacolet, a daughter of the late Frank Gossett and Ella Jane Camby Gossett. She was retired from Beaumont Mills and a member of Pacolet First Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Harris and husband Roger and Carol Wells and husband Donald all of Pacolet; five grandchildren, Tonya Gossett, Jennifer Gossett, Derek Gossett, D.J. Wells and Kellie LeGardye and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gossett was predeceased by a son, Gene Gossett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Pacolet Road Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jimmy Powell. Burial will be at Pacolet Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Daniel “Danny” Elliott Weathers, age 63, of 842 Sardis Road, Union, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Mr. Weathers was born in Aiken, June 27, 1956, a son of the late Thomas Weathers and Francenia “Teenie” Miller Weathers. He was a 1974 graduate of Summerville High School and was a longtime employee of the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mr. Weathers was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville.

Surviving are daughters; Caitlin Smith and husband, Tim, of Mauldin, Meagan Weathers of Conway, two sons; Daniel Weathers and wife, Jennifer, of Navarre, Florida, Dustin Weathers and wife, Dana, of Summerville, two sisters; Cynthia Weathers - Wofford and husband, Lorn, Elizabeth Weathers Page and Penny Thomas all of Union; one brother, Michael Weathers and wife, Teala, of Boiling Springs; and Grandchildren; Adyson and Gage Weathers, Camden and Tatum Smith, Jackson Weathers, Kerrigan Weathers, and Taylor Herndon, Alec Weathers, former wife, Theresa Weathers Bognar, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Weathers was predeceased by one brother, Tommy C. Weathers and nephew, Ira Benjamin Collier, III.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2019 at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Shawn Rinehart.

Mr. Arnold Robert England, age 85, of 140 England Drive, Union, husband of Catherine Kelly England, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at his home.

Mr. England was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on June 6, 1934 a son of the late Mack Daniel England and Eve McClure England. He worked in many states with the Nuclear Energy Industry and after retirement enjoyed having his own produce stand, England’s Produce. He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sons; Jamison England and Bronson England of Union and Arnold England, Jr. of Seymour, TN and one daughter, Gail E. Brown of Seymour, TN; nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 6:30 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Frankie Charles Greer

Mr. Frankie Charles Greer, age 70, gained his heavenly wings, Friday, November 8, 2019.

A native of Union Co., he was the son of the late Alfred Charles Greer and Edith Johnson Greer Lee.

Mr. Greer was employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing for 27 years as an electrician. He was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College earning his Certificate in Industrial Electronics. He attended Greenville Technical College receiving his CDL licenses after both of his sons were out of college and on their own. He worked for Randolph Trucking until retirement.

Frankie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claudia Jean May Greer; two sons, that he loved dearly, Charles Alexander “Alex” Greer and wife Dona Huskey Greer of Gaffney and Heath Chadrick “Chad” Greer and wife Sheri Hovsepian Greer of Union. He is also survived by three grandsons that he was very proud of, all honor students; Austin Charles Greer, Landon Alexander Greer both of Gaffney and Adam Joseph Greer of Union. He was also survived by a brother, Johnny “Allan” Greer and wife Viola DesChamps Greer of Cayce and a sister, Rebecca Gail Greer of Atlanta, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greer served in the US Navy from 1969 until 1971 on the USS Ranger CVA-61 Aircraft Carrier. After he was discharges from active duty, he served in the Naval Reserves, Spartanburg Unit and later in the SC National Guard, Union Unit.

Frankie and his family restored the “Hollis Home” in Cross Keys in 1988 and lived there for 21 years before downsizing to his Mothers’s home in Jonesville in 2009. Frankie was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell and Rev. Scott Cannon. Burial with Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 Sunday at the chapel prior to the services.

Mrs. Peggy Blackwell Lybrand, age 87, of Springdale Dr., Union, widow of James Hollis “Boogo” Lybrand, passed away Thursday November 7, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Lybrand was born in Union, February 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Carlos Blackwell, Sr. and Sarah Farmer Blackwell. She attended Union High School and was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant. Mrs. Lybrand was a faithful member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir for 60 years and was a teacher with the Day Care program.  She was proud to be a member of the United Methodist Women and had served as a past President and District Officer. She was also a member of the “Sweet Adelines” women’s chorus in Spartanburg and was a “Pink Lady” at Wallace Thomson Hospital. A devoted wife and mother, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Jean L. Broom (Frank) of Camden; three sons, J. Michael Lybrand (Sherry) of Shelby, NC, Ronnie Lybrand (Linda) of Union and David Lybrand (Heather) of Moore; a brother, Paul “Kent” Blackwell (Gwen) of Statesville, NC; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lybrand was predeceased by a brother, Carlos Blackwell, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz and Rev. Frank Lybrand. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Lybrand’s grandson will serve as the active pallbearers.

Mrs. Mildred A. Batchelor, age 78, of 516 S. Boyce St., Union, widow of William P. Batchelor, passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Batchelor was born in Ringwood, NJ, September 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Sidnor and Lahoma Degroat. She retired from Disney World in Florida and was a member of Ringwood Pentecostal Church.  She was a loving mother and grandmother and an amazing cook. She also enjoyed crocheting and making porcelain dolls.

Surviving are four sons, Richard Bernard Defreese, Nathan Lee Defreese, Bradley Milton Defreese and Ronald Defreese all of Union; a sister, Henrietta Mann, three brothers, Milton Degroat, Sidnor Degroat and Tony Degroat; grandchildren, Shannon, Genelle, Ron Jr., Natalie, Jasmine, Andrew, Cheyanne, Mariah, and Vivian and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Batchelor was predeceased by a son, Steven Degroat and siblings, Barbara Wright, Andrew Degroat, Eric Degroat and Frankie Degroat.

Ms. Dixie Irene Fisher, age 85 of 683 Rice Ave. Ext., Union, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Heartland of Union.

Ms. Fisher was born July 29, 1934 in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late Boyce Dean Fisher and Flora Hester Dixon Fisher.  She was a 1952 graduate of Landrum High School where she was the Valedictorian and played on the basketball team.  Ms. Fisher retired from Wal-Mart.  She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where she was a longtime Sunday School Teacher.

Surviving are three sons, Michael Lloyd Kirby and wife April of Union, Richard Fisher Kirby and wife Tammy of Spartanburg, and Boyce Claude Kirby of Buffalo; a sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Polson of Easley; eleven grandchildren and many, many great and great-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, Felix Gregory Kirby; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Ann Swanson Kirby; two brothers, Douglas Dean Fisher and Fred Julian Fisher.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Miriam Mick.

Mrs. Lula Rena Maness Elliott, age 88, of 373 Riley Rd., Buffalo, widow of Paul E. Elliott, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Woodridge Manor in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Elliott was born in Campobello, August 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Doyle and Ethel Grant Maness. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired as Ward Clerk at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Elliott had formerly worked with United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and Conso Products. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Stanley Elliott and wife Pam of Union; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Elliott was predeceased by a brother, Mason Maness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 8, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Todd Davis. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Joyce Inman Neal, age 57, of 121 Barnado Rd., Union, widow of Kenny Neal, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Neal was born in Union on May 22, 1962 a daughter of Juanita Brannon Inman of Lockhart and the late Bobby Dean Inman.  She attended Lockhart High School and retired from Milliken & Co.—Monarch Plant.  Mrs. Neal was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are her longtime companion, Bobby Fowler of the home; three brothers, Rodney Inman and wife Sandra of Lockhart, Dale Inman and wife Patti of Lockhart, and Dexter Inman and wife Sally of Union; ten nieces and nephews, Rodney Dean Inman, III, Jessica Nichole Inman, Lindsey Powers and husband J.B., Caitlyn Inman, Caleb Roark, Seth Roark, Dexlie Inman, Bella Clark, Harmoni Chambers, and Coleson Powers.

Donna Maryé Pendleton
Union, S.C.


Donna Maryé Pendleton, age 58, of Union, South Carolina, passed away on October 30th, 2019, surrounded by her family and friends. She succumbed to ovarian cancer, which she fought bravely, with faith and grace, for nearly three years.

Donna, the oldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donald R. Eubanks, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 3, 1961. She pursued undergraduate studies at Furman University and earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSRN) from Atlantic Christian College. While at Furman, she met Rev. Rick Pendleton, her loving husband of 31 years. They were married on June 30, 1984.

Donna was a devoted cardiac nurse and faithful ministry partner to her husband. Rick and Donna served the Lord through pastoral ministry at Story Creek Baptist Church in Ferrum, Virginia (1983-1984); Concord Baptist Church in Frog Level, Virginia (1984-2001); North Dunedin Baptist Church in Dunedin, Florida (2001-2005); Gourdvine Baptist Church in Culpeper, Virginia (2007-2011); and First Baptist Church in Union, South Carolina (2011-2015). After moving to Union in 2011, Donna taught Health Sciences at Union County High School for four years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and servant to all those around her. She was perpetually selfless- always putting the needs of her family, friends, patients, church members, and students above her own. Most importantly, Donna was extremely faithful- loving and praising God, even through becoming a widow and fighting a fierce battle against an aggressive cancer.

Donna is survived by her four children: Reese Pendleton, Bethany Howell (husband Kole), Leah Pendleton, and Ethan Pendleton (wife Hannah); her grandchildren: Kolton and Kallen Howell; her mother, Maryé Eubanks; and her three sisters: Debbie Kovach, Delinda Eubanks, and Daniele Herndon. Services will be held at Concord Baptist Church in Frog Level, Virginia on Friday November 8th at 11AM. Flowers can be sent to Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Virginia.

Mrs. Lisa Ann White Harris, age 49, wife of Gene C. “Trey” Harris, III, of 101 Switzer St., Roebuck, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Harris was born in Union, October 9, 1970, a daughter of the Albert Thomas White of Union and the late Bessie Bevis Brown and husband Tommy Brown of Union. She was a 1989 graduate of Union High School where she was an accomplished athlete having lettered in volleyball and track. She was also a member of the Beta Club. Lisa was a longtime home health nurse and Publix customer service employee, who was loved by her coworkers and patients alike.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kirstin Brooke McDowell of Jonesville; a son, Jesse Cole Harris of Spartanburg; a step-son, Cody Evans Harris of Carlisle; a sister, Rhonda Petty of Jonesville; two brothers, Dennis Malpass and wife Stacy of Union and Brandon White of Alabama; two granddaughters Jayleigh Harris of Jonesville and Teagan Harris of Union and a grandson, Caiden Jennings of Jonesville.

Lisa’s favorite place to visit was Charleston, SC, where she loved to sit with her husband Trey on Sullivan’s Island and watch the dolphins at sunset.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cook and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dillon West, Connor Harris, Michael Harris, Mark Harris, Josh Morris and Bryan Davis.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Ronnie Gene Wright, Sr., age 61, husband of Gayle Jackson Wright of 219 Morningside Dr., Pauline, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Wright was born in Winston Salem, NC March 27, 1958 a son of the late Charles and Evelyn Noah Wright. He was a retired brick mason and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Teresa Gayle Tucker and husband Dennis of Union and Carolyn Grace Yarbrough and husband Jerry of Pauline; two sisters, Sherry Smith of Roebuck and Evelyn Wright of Union; two brothers, William Todd Wright of Buffalo and Frank Duplissis of New Jersey; four grandchildren: Scott Wright, Brittany Hernandez and husband Jose, Grace Kirby and Logan Yarbrough.  Mr. Wright was predeceased by a son, Ronnie Gene Wright, Jr. and a sister, Tammy Sue Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.
