Mr. Charles Lee Thomason, age 44, husband of Heather Marie Sthal Thomason, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC.

Mr. Thomason was born in Waynesville, NC, October 18, 1973, a son of Charles Lynnwood Thomason and Marshall Messer Thomason of the home.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed in the textile industry.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Alyssa Thomason and Savannah Thomason, both of the home; a sister, Amanda Thomason of Adamsburg; two nieces, Shelby Gibson and Shyann Gibson both of Adamsburg and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Mr. Thomason was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Charlie and Edith Messer and his paternal grandparents, Wallace and Ada Elizabeth Thomason.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Sam Baine.  Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Rusty Thomason, Luke Thomason, Kelly Thomason, Jamie Nabors, Ronnie Thomason, Roger Thomason and Jamie Gibson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Herbert E. Smith

Mr. Herbert Eugene “Herbie” Smith, age 69, husband of Penny Whiting Smith of 407 Richard St., Union, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born in Union, June 13, 1948, a son of the late Henry Olin Smith and Doris Parks Smith.

He was a 1967 graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College.  Mr. Smith retired from Honeywell in Duncan in the Quality Control department.  He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church but grew up in West Side Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood Director.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Emily S. Russell and husband Patrick and Carrie S. Smith and husband Kevin all of Union; five grandchildren, Madyson Parks Russell, Mason Patrick Russell, Parker Bruce Russell, Garrison Chase Smith and Grayson Cameron Smith; four special aunts, Mary Parks, Grace Barker, Mary Lee Parks and Ruth Parks, his special pet Yorkie-poo, Ruby and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, Bruce Wayne Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Vaughn, Rev. Shawn Ingle and Mr. Gary Nesmith.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Perry Dean Rogers

Mr. Perry Dean Rogers, age 64, of 210 Wesley Chapel Church Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Rogers was born in Union, March 20, 1953 a son of the late Sara Horne Rogers.  He was retired from Timken Co. after 33 years and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Rogers was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a niece, Sherri H. Williams and husband Robert of Buffalo; a nephew, Scott Horne of Union; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Horne of Union; two cousins, Bobby Horne and wife Betty of Union and Tim Rogers and wife Teresa of Buffalo, and two great-nephews, Noah McCutcheon and Jonah McCutcheon.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Walter Holcombe.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Mike Edward Martin, age 61, husband of Patsy Rochester Martin of 295 Deer Wood Dr., Pacolet, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Martin was born in Gaffney, August 6, 1956, a son of the late Lee Edward Martin and Shirley Giles Martin.  He was employed with Indorama Auriga Polymars, Inc. and was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Josh Martin and wife Wendy of Gaffney and Tony Martin and wife Alycia of Spartanburg; a daughter, Cassie Martin of Pacolet; a step-daughter, Stacie Sellars and husband David of Spartanburg; a step-son, Shane Millwood of Chesnee; one sister, Elaine McSwain of Gaffney; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Mr. Martin was predeceased by two brothers, Ricky Martin and Terry Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Clint Phillips and Rev. David Sellars. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Martin’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and also Justin Stevens.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Frances Nell Vaughan

Miss Frances Nell “Miss Nell” Vaughan of Monarch died at her home, Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

Miss Nell was well-known and loved in her community and at her church, Mon Aetna Baptist, where she served as Sunday School teacher, Training Union leader, G.A. leader and Adult choir member for many years.

Miss Nell counseled and influenced many young people at Monarch Elementary School, where she officially served as librarian and later as school secretary for a total of 45 years. Unofficially, Miss Nell was the school “nurse”, guidance counselor and beloved friend of school administrators, teachers and staff. She was devoted to the children of Monarch Elementary. 

In 1973, the school library was dedicated in her honor at the “new” Monarch School. Many also will remember Miss Nell caring for the children at Mon Aetna Baptist Day Care for 18 years.

Miss Nell was born June 6, 1922 in Union County, a daughter of the late George and Louise Lowe Vaughan. She is survived by two brothers, James “Bonesy” Vaughn of Union and Rev. Joe Vaughan and wife Juanita “Skeet” of Richmond, VA.  She is also survived by a niece, Jane Vaughn of Greenville, SC, a nephew, Joel Vaughan and wife Debbie of Raleigh, NC, and a great-niece, Katie Vaughan of Raleigh, NC. She was predeceased by a niece, Liz Anne Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mr. Steven Brent Pelham, age 67, husband of Debra Bailey Pelham, of 315 Harris St., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Pelham was born December 19, 1949 in Union a son of the late James H. Pelham, Jr. and Eddie Mae Horne Kirby.  He had worked at K&K Mechanical in La Grange, GA and had previously worked with Carlisle Finishing for 24 years.  Mr. Pelham was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and attended Jonesville High School.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Samantha Parker of Alabama; two grandsons, Dustin C. Parker of the home and Kyle Tassin of Alabama; two sisters, Mary Hill of Jonesville and Paula Wood of Union; one brother, Dexter Pelham of Jonesville; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Kristi Talanges of Roebuck.  He was predeceased a son, Steven Travis Pelham and a sister, Sandra Kirby.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge.

Visitation will be held 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the services at the Church.

Curtis “Red” Walker

Mr. Curtis E. “Red” Walker, Jr. age 92 of 116 Red Road, Union, Lockhart Community, widow of Peggy Brannon Walker, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Walker was born in Lockhart on March 14, 1925 a son of the late Curtis E. Walker, Sr. and Susie Davis Walker.  He was retired from Cone Mill and owned and operated Walker’s Gift Shop in Lockhart.  Mr. Walker was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church. 

Surviving are two sisters, Pearl Gault of Adamsburg and Pat Cromer of Lockhart; six grandchildren, Chad Vinson and wife Stacie of Union; Danny Vinson of Lockhart, Kent Walker and wife Andrea of Union; Jody Walker and wife Danielle of Lockhart, Brandy Smallwood and husband Jeryle of Lockhart, and Melissa Flood and husband Dr. John of Union; ten great-grandchildren, Collin, Clint, Kacie, Noah, MaKayla, Mary Elizabeth, Jonah, Emma, Hayden, and Brannon; two daughter-in-laws, Joanne Walker and Sarah Walker both of Lockhart; one son-in-law, J.T. Vinson of Lockhart; and numerous niece and nephews.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Kathy W. Vinson; three sons, Kenneth E. Walker, Keith Walker, and Clint Walker; two sisters, Suzanne Harris and Jessie Canupp; and two brothers, Joe Walker and Bert Walker. 

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, November 24, 2017 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Sam Baine, Rev. Dr. Tommy Bryson, and Rev. Delos Blanton.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be, Dexter Inman, David McCluney, Garrett Gibson, Allen Canupp, Lee Brannon, and Chris Brannon.  The nurses and staff of Crescent Hospice, formally Blue Ridge Hospice, is asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Nannie Lee Boling Rochester

Mrs. Nannie Lee Boling Rochester, age 94 widow of Rueben P. Rochester of 139 Seigler Rd., Union passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Rochester was born in Union November 2, 1923 a daughter of the late James William and Callie Lybrand Boling. She was a graduate of Union High School and previously worked as a telephone operator.  Mrs. Rochester was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother that was dedicated to the Lord.  She was member of the Duncan Acres United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rochester was an active member in the United Methodist Women at three churches, Friendship Circle at Duncan Acres UMC, Eva Sanders Circle at Buffalo UMC, and Johnny Sanders Circle at Grace UMC. She was a member of the Mary Lybrand Sunday school at Duncan Acres. She taught Sunday school for many years at Grace and Buffalo United Methodist Churches. She was an active member of the Union County Family and Community Leaders service club sponsored by Clemson University. Her special ministry was sending cards to her friends and family. She sent an average of twenty cards a month to uplift, share sympathy, or celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.

The last survivor of her immediate family she is survived by her son, William “Bill” Rochester and wife, Rebecca of Union; her grandson, Richard Rochester and wife Kelly of Boiling Springs; and her great-grandson, Ian Rochester of Ohio.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz and Rev. David Bauknight.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

The following are asked to sit in a group, members of the Union County Family and Community Leaders service group, Friendship Circle of Duncan Acres UMC; Eva Sanders Circle of Buffalo UMC, and Johnny Sanders Circle of Grace UMC.

Mr. William Donald “Don” Fowler, age 70, husband of Rickie Grant Fowler of Union, SC was welcomed to Heaven Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Mr. Fowler was born in Union, November 24, 1946 a son of the late James H., Sr. and Katherine Fowler.  Don worked in the family owned business Dixie Curb Market for many years.  He also worked with American General Life Insurance Company, Midway Barbecue, USC-Union, and Mon-Aetna Baptist Church.  He was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church and was a former Deacon at First Baptist Church of Union.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are two daughters, Kathy Price and Charlie of Boone, NC and Dawn Shick of Union; six grandchildren, Molly Price MacDonald, Laura Price, and Jack Price all of Boone, NC and Jeffrey Shick, Jon Ryan Shick, and Caroline Shick all of Union; one brother, Gene Fowler and wife Linda of Lexington.  He was predeceased by two brothers, John Fowler and Jimbo Fowler, Jr and two grandchildren, Joseph Shick and Amara Dawn Shick.

Mr. Leonard Larry Blair, age 70, husband of Rita Stepp Blair of 640 Howell Road, Jonesville, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Spartanburg Restorative Care.

Mr. Blair was born September 20, 1947 in Springfield, OH a son of the late Homer Blair, Jr. and Reba Mulls Blair.  Due to the early death of his parents, Mr. Blair was raised in the home of his grandparents in Kentucky.  He was a graduate of Oil Springs High School in Kentucky and was retired from Nortel Networks as a Field Supervisor.  Mr. Blair was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War.  He attended Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Rhonda Donnelly Lindler of Jonesville and Wanda Donnelly of Union; two granddaughters, Katie Lindler and Jessica Gault both of Jonesville; and one great-grandson, Cameron Boulware of Jonesville.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Donnelly Gault and one sister, Linda Outlaw.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Stephen Vance “Sonny” Dye, Sr.

Mr. Stephen Vance “Sonny” Dye, Sr., age 72, of 117 Ellis St., Union widower of Rebecca Ann LeMaster Dye, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Dye was born in Union on April 17, 1945 a son of the late Mary Lucille Dye.  He was reared in the home of his maternal grandparents the late Walter and Lillian Dye.  Mr. Dye was a graduate of Union High School.  He retired from United Life Insurance Company and was formerly employed with Liberty Life Insurance Company.  Mr. Dye was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.  He was a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard Union Unit.

Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie D. Brackins of Union; a son, Stephen V. Dye, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Union; his fiancée Mary Lynn Booth of the home; five grandchildren, Taylor Brackins, Morgan Hernandez, Rebecca Brackins, Gauge Taylor, and Cheyenne Dye.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Benny Green.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Joseph Paul Heatherly, Jr, age 84 of 116 Heatherly Drive Buffalo, widower of Juanita Duncan Heatherly, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Heatherly was born in Buffalo, SC December 23, 1932, a son of the late Joseph Paul Heatherly, Sr and Sunie Henson Heatherly. He retired from United Metchants Buffalo Plant and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Korean War. Mr. Heatherly was a member of West Springs Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a daughter, Debbie H. Lyons and husband Hugo of Elloree, SC; a son, Larry Heatherly Sr. and wife Penny of Buffalo; a sister, Aileen Quinn of Buffalo; two brothers: Herbert Heatherly of Buffalo and Rev. Broadus Heatherly of Shelby, NC; six grandchildren: Michelle McCowan, Christy Beheler, April Hicks, Wayne Heatherly, II, Shannon Lyons and Chad Lyons and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Heatherly was predeceased by two sisters, Lucinda Arnold and Beck Heatherly and two brothers, S.J. Heatherly and Ralph Heatherly.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, November 9, 2017 at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Greg Black.

Visitation will be held 1:30-3:00 PM in the church prior to the service.

Mr. Michael W. Wells, age 67, widower of Linnie Posey Wells, of 330 Johns St., Union, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Wells was born in Union, July 14, 1950, a son of the late John Isaac Wells and Julia Mae Linder Wells. He retired from Gestamp and had previously worked in the textile industry for 40 years. Mr. Wells was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sons: Mike Wells and wife Kristin of North Augusta and Heath Wells and wife Allie of Buffalo; one brother: W. Howard Wells and wife Wanda of Union and his loving grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis. Entombment will be at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mrs. Dale Sprouse Kingsmore, age 87, formally of 101 Beverly Drive, widow of Earl Kingsmore passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mrs. Kingsmore was born November 18, 1929 in Union, SC a daughter of the late Harry J. Sprouse and Marguerite S. Sprouse.  She was the owner of Dale’s Ladies Fashion and Kingsmore Tours.  Mrs. Kingsmore was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church and had previously been a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where she held various positions within the church.  She and her husband were married for 59 years before his death in 2007.

Surviving are two sons, Monty D. Kingsmore and wife Wendi of Union and Danny Kingsmore and wife Candy of Winnsboro; one sister, June Carol Elliott and husband Mack; four grandchildren, Emily Kingsmore of Surfside Beach, Ty Kingsmore of Union, Angel Crider and husband Scott of Knoxville, TN and Travis Kingsmore and wife Stacie of St. Matthews; and three great-grandchildren, Jeremy Crider, Blakely Kingsmore, and Collin Crider.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2017 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Benny Green.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens

Mr. Kenneth Edward Roark, 57, of Union, SC, passed away on November 2, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Kenneth was born on November 14, 1959 in Union, SC. He was the son of Miriam Wilson Roark and the late Leonard Roark Jr. Kenneth spent the early years of his life delivering newspapers for Palmetto Drug Store and his teenage years working full time at Bi-Lo. Following this he worked at Milliken Research Facility, but soon after he joined the US Army. He served from 1981-1985 as an Army personnel specialist; he was stationed in Germany. While in the Army he earned a Mid-Management degree from the College of Chicago.  After returning home, Kenneth worked as the shipping coordinator at Carlisle Finishing and remained there for thirty-one years.

In 1987, he married Sara Ann Sanders. In life Kenneth was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan. In addition, Kenneth received a Master Gardening certificate from Clemson Extension in Union, SC. Following this, he worked part time at Rose Hill Gardens as the rose gardener. He kept a personnel garden in South Hills behind his mother's house. Kenneth was a member of West Side Baptist Church and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. 

In addition to his wife and mother, Kenneth leaves behind a son, David Roark, and a daughter-in-law, Kalyn Roark of Spartanburg; a daughter, Kasie Roark of Union; a goddaughter, Amanda Hendrix, of Union; two sisters, Elaine Roark Thomas, of Charlotte and Emily Paluszak, of Greenville; and one brother, Steven Roark of Lockhart. Kenneth also had one late brother, Ricky Roark.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn.

Active pallbearers will be Layton Roark, Randal Roark, Hunter Blackwell, Cole Rector, Jeff Wilson, and Drew Gragg.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Ellis E. Langley

Mr. Ellis E. Langley, age 87 passed away early Friday morning at Heartland of Union.  He and his wife Peggy Harmon Langley had been married for 67 years. 

Mr. Langley was born in Cross Keys on March 14, 1930 a son of the late Ernest E. Langley and Ruth Bailey Langley. He was a 1947 graduate of Union High School.  Mr. Langley was a retired Union Businessman having owned and operated Union Dry Cleaning and Steam Laundry Company for 47 years.  He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Clyburn Whitener Sunday School and was an Usher.  Mr. Langley was a member of the Union Elks Lodge where he was former treasurer.  He was also a former member of the Union County Historical Society, Union Livestock Association, and former President of Union County Farm Bureau.  Mr. Langley was retired from the South Carolina National Guard Union Unit.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Donna Anthony and husband Tommy of Union; two sons, Dennis Langley and wife Cindy of Union and David Langley and wife Mary Beth of Greer; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Nelson and husband Andy, Tyler Anthony and wife Amanda, Dr. Katie Cash and husband Garrett, Michael Langley and wife Ashley, Christopher Langley, Matthew Langley, and Sydney Langley; five great-grandchildren, Cameron and Caden Nelson, Austin and Ava Anthony, and AnnaBelle Langley; and two sisters Ann L. Rollins of Abbottstown, PA and Erma Lee Hunt and husband Dan of Winston Salem, NC.  He was predeceased by one sister Mary Bailey Arthur and her husband John Arthur.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey and Rev. Richard Lewis.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. 

Active pallbearers will be Mr. Langley’s grandsons and great-grandsons.  The Clyburn Whitener Sunday School Class of Grace United Methodist Church and the Staff of Heartland Healthcare are asked to sit in a group

Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary Edith Hodge Proctor, age 95 of Sonoco Rd., Union, widow of Wells Proctor, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Proctor was born in Union, November 3, 1922 a daughter of the late Samuel Hodge and the late Bertha Susan Fowler Hodge Jones; her step-father was the late William Jennings Jones. She was retired from Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant and was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Mrs. Proctor resided at Heartland of Union for the past two years; first in assisted living and then in the nursing center, where the staff kindly and lovingly cared for her.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy P. Sykes and husband Jimmy of Buffalo; three sisters: Leila J. Shirley, Ethel Palmer and Betty Grady all of Union; three grandchildren: Amy Whitfield and husband Robert of North Augusta, Jamie Sykes and wife Angie of Abbeville and David Sykes and wife Leslie of Gilbert; 5 great-grandchildren: Wilson Sykes of Clemson, Linsey Sykes of Abbeville, Wells, Sara, and Lizzie Sykes all of Gilbert and a step-great-grandson, Nicholas Whitfield of North Augusta.  Mrs. Proctor was predeceased by three sisters, Doris Elizabeth Cooke, Nattie Ruth Montgomery and Johnnie West and by one brother, William H. “Bill” Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Lawton Neely and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Sunday at the church prior to the services.

Mae Gossett Bailey

Mrs. Mae Gossett Bailey, age 82, of 618 New Hope Church Road, Jonesville, widow of Marion Eugene Bailey, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Jonesville, SC on March 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Albert Eugene Gossett and Lillie Foster Gossett. She was a 1953 graduate of Jonesville High School. While working at the Union Mill office, she met her husband, Marion, of 49 years.

Mrs. Bailey became a full-time homemaker after the birth of her daughter. In 1970, Mrs. Bailey and her husband were instrumental in organizing the Rocky Creek Water Company, which brought water to northern Union County.  Mrs. Bailey then served as book keeper and later as secretary/treasurer of the water company for 45 years. From the mid-80’s until the birth of her first grandchild. Mrs. Bailey also worked at the Monarch branch of Arthur State Bank.

Mrs. Bailey was a faithful, lifelong member of New Hope Methodist Church, where she served as the organist for nearly half a century.

Her most rewarding role was serving as doting “Nana” to her four precious grandchildren.  Mrs. Bailey mastered the art of multiple diaper changes and bottle feedings for triplets, while entertaining a toddler.

She leaves behind her daughter, Donna Long and husband James of Jonesville and four grandchildren, James Charles (Charlie) Long, Anna-Katherine (Bailey) Long, William Gossett Long and Patrick Alman Long; a niece, Karen Bailey Cobb; a nephew, Bobby Eugene Bailey; and her Gossett and Foster cousins.  Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her infant brother, William Gossett.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Doctor James Ivey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charlie Long, Will Long, Patrick Long, Donald Long, Jr., Mark Blackwell, and Jack Dill. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bernice Justice Falls, age 92, widow of William R. Falls, Sr., formerly of Malone Ave., Union, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Falls was born in Union, May 21, 1925, a daughter of the late Milas Bryant Justice and Mary Elizabeth Franklin Justice.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are one sister: Alma L. Justice of Union; two daughters: Anne Marie Palmer of Union and Mary Ashe and husband Osborne of Loganville, GA; two granddaughters: Keri Anne Ashe and Karen Ashe Caughman; two grandsons: Jason Falls and wife Meredith and Kevin Falls; three great-grandchildren: Zach Caughman, Emily Caughman and Waylon Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Falls was predeceased by a son, William Rush Falls, Jr., a grandson, William Bradley Palmer, a daughter-in-law, Pam Falls, six sisters and four brothers.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Johnny Fleming and Brenda Ivey for their love, help, and support of Mrs. Falls during her illness.
