Cornelia Culp Beaty
Union, SC

Cornelia Culp Beaty was born in Union, SC June 3, 1919, and passed away at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home in Union November 5, 2014.

She was the daughter of William Norman Beaty and Annie Janette Gore. She was the last of four siblings, her twin sister Mary, her younger sister Franceys, and her dear brother W.T.

Miss Beaty attended Union schools, and after graduating from Union High School, she entered Lander College. She felt that she received an excellent education at Lander. She enjoyed her four years there very much, and met there the English teacher who inspired her to become an English teacher herself. She graduated from Lander in 1940, and taught in the small surrounding towns for several years, then returned in 1946 to teach in Union for the rest of her legendary career. She retired in 1988 after 48 years in the classroom. She spent her summers traveling in Europe with her brother W.T.

During her long years of teaching, she won many honors and awards. But her greatest legacy lies in the testimonials from her students who love and admire her, and thank her for the excellent educational foundation that she gave them which they are now passing on to their children and grandchildren. There is no way to measure the lasting influence of an excellent teacher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union County Humane Society, % Sally Parker, P.O. Box 383, Union, SC 29379.

Graveside services will be held November 15, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
