Kathy Joann Shetley

Mrs. Kathy Joann Shetley, age 56, formerly of Shetley Rd., Union, passed away May 30, 2018 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Shetley was born July 2, 1961 in Union, a daughter of the late James Frank Shetley and Betty DeHart Shetley.  She was a graduate of Union High School and USC-Upstate where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Mrs. Shetley was formerly employed as a Registered Nurse at Oakmont of Union and Blue Ridge Hospice.  She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult 1 Sunday School Class.   Mrs. Shetley had a heart for helping people.

Surviving are one son, James Brad Shetley and wife Autumn of Wellford; one sister, Cheryl Smith and husband Randy of Union; one brother, James Allan Shetley of Union; two grandsons, Luke and Jacob Shetley both of Wellford; a beloved granddaughter, Caroline Olivia Shetley of Wellford; two special nieces, Julianna Smith and Harmony Smith both of Union; and two nephews, Horace Smith, Jr. and Teddy Mull both of Union.  She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Eugene Shetley.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Aubrey Calvert.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be David Duckett, David Putnam, Rickey Duckett, Jonathan Duckett, Neil Shetley, and Horace Smith, Jr.  The staff of Crescent Hospice formerly, Blue Ridge Hospice is asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the services at the Church.

Mrs. Evelyn H. Smith, age 96, of 221 Sunny Acres Rd., Pacolet, widow of James H. Smith passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born April 16, 1922 a daughter of the late Dewey Hooper and Gracie May Hooper.  She was a member of Pacolet First Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Gwinn and husband Jerry of Greenville, Marsha Robinson and husband Danny of Pacolet, and Debra Mitchell of Chesnee; a son, Monty A. Smith and wife Debbie of Pacolet; three sisters, Margaret Winchester of Union, Betty Vinson of Spartanburg, Inis Crawford of Union; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  She was predeceased by one sister, Diane H. Hughey and five brothers, Charles Hooper, Ray Hooper, Floyd Hooper, Harold Hooper, and Joseph Hooper.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Bill Pickle. 

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the love, care, and compassion shown to Mrs. Smith during her illness and her caregivers, Connie Biggerstaff and Jeanette Buchanan.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Davis, age 75, husband of Judy Smith Davis, of 108 Greenway Ave., Union, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Carolina’s Medical Center—Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Davis was born September 15, 1942 in Union, a son of the late Douglas Davis, Jr. and Mary Louise Scoggins Davis.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken & Co after 40 years.  Mr. Davis was of the Baptist Faith.  He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed working outdoors and gardening.  Mr. Davis was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters Lisa Heatherly and husband David of Buffalo and Tracy Connolly and husband Mickey of Union; one son-in-law, Bill Wilburn of Union; one brother, George Davis and wife JoAnn of Waterloo, SC; five grandchildren, Mitch Heatherly, Tyler Heatherly and wife Lacey, Lindsey C. Arthur and husband Travis, Jake Wilburn, and Erin C. Mescia and husband Dalton; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Heatherly and Braly Heatherly, and a special great-grandson, Jace Anderson.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Renee D. Wilburn and a sister, Brenda Coker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb and Rev. Tommy Mann.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. 

Active pallbearers will be Mitch Heatherly, Tyler Heatherly, Jake Wilburn, Travis Arthur, Dalton Mescia, and Mickey Connolly.

Mrs. Mary Lawson Maness, age 80, wife of James L. “Jim” Maness of 208 Harwood Heights, Union, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Maness was born in Union, July 8, 1937, a daughter of the late James H. and Aileen Vinson Lawson.  She was a 1955 graduate of Union High School and also a graduate of Waldrop Beautician School.  Mrs. Maness was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the S.C. Federation of the Blind.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one brother, James P. “Jimmy” Lawson and his wife Janet of Union.  Mrs. Maness was predeceased by a son, James Richard “Ricky” Maness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Jimmy Maness. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Robert Mark Garner, age 52, husband of Paula Ivey Garner of 105 Elford Grove Rd., Jonesville passed away.

Mr. Garner was born in Union, April 29, 1966, beloved son of John David Garner, Sr. and Jean Petty Garner. He was a 1984 graduate of Jonesville High School and was owner of Garner Heating and Air. He was a member of the Prudence Masonic Lodge #139 of Jonesville where he had served as a Past Master and Treasurer. Mark loved his family and was a fan of racing and motorcycles.

Surviving in addition to his parents and wife are two daughters, Kalyn Garner of Jonesville and Courtney Garner of the home; three sons, Kyle Travis Rice of Spartanburg, Cody Guyton of Union and Jaxon Garner of the home; three brothers-in-law; Vernon Ivey and wife Pam of Daytona, FL, Tony Ivey and wife Christi of Mt. Pleasant, and Terry Ivey and wife Betty of Union; three grandchildren, Liam Guyton, Dixie Ogle and Wyatt Ogle.  Mr. Garner was predeceased by a brother, John Garner, Jr., his maternal grandparents, Lee and Vera Petty and his paternal grandparents, John and Evelyn Garner.

Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 1, 2018 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Randy Burgess.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:45 PM prior to the services at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Albert H. Wilson

Mr. Albert H. Wilson, age 81 of 118 Poinsett St., Union, widower of Jeanelle Lawson Wilson, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, May 27, 2018.

Mr. Wilson was born in Buffalo, April 28, 1937, a son of the late Lewis Caine Wilson and Belva Osborne Wilson.  He was a retired supervisor from Drayton Mills in Spartanburg and was formerly employed with Coca-Cola Bottling in Union. He was a skilled wood worker and enjoyed making items for his family. Mr. Wilson loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Connie W. Sinclair and fiancé Glenn Sparks; two sons, Stanley Wilson and wife Ann and Alan “Ermy” Wilson and wife Linda all of Union; two sisters, Margaret Leonhardt and Bernice Dalton both of Union; a special cousin, Hassie Vaughan of Union; a half-sister, Linda “Cookie” Wilson; two half-brothers, Mickey Wilson and Doug Wilson all of Union; five grandchildren: Nikki Millwood, Christon “Fussy” Sinclair, Andrew Wilson, Krissi Millwood, and Kyle Wilson; and ten great-grandchildren.  Mr. Wilson was predeceased by a brother, John Wilson and a half-brother, Mike Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Andrew Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Jacob Morris, Gage Millwood, Cole Millwood, Pat Wilson and Hunter Millwood.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses of 5 Heart at Spartanburg Regional, Spartanburg Regional Hospice, and the Union Medical Center emergency staff for their care of Mr. Wilson during his illness.

Mr. Mark Talmadge Bobo, “Tim-Bo”, age 58 of 101 Sprouse St., Union, widower of Ileana Pettit, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bobo was born in Union, November 5, 1959, a son of Judy Sprouse Bobo of Union and the late Rufus Talmadge Bobo.  He attended Union Co. Schools and was retired from the textile industry.  Mr. Bobo was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Renee Calhoun and Gayle Bobo; a brother, Johnny Bobo all of Union; three nieces, Tammy Renae Calhoun of Union, Julie Roark of Clinton and Crystal “Cricket” Roark of Union; two nephews, Robert Forest Bobo of Alabama and John Wayne Calhoun of Union; a great niece, Skylar Lei Hicks; and six great-nephews, Jamison Wayne Hicks, Jeremiah “J.J.” Bobo, Malachi Bobo, Daniel Forest Wix, Talmadge Trip Kirby and Xavier Gage Calhoun.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Jarvis. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 5:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Betty Jarvis Lideka

Mrs. Betty Jarvis Lidkea, age 93, formerly of Fant Lane, Union, widow of John Murray Lidkea, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Lidkea was born on March 13, 1925 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late Harry Jarvis and Anna Josephine Thacker Jarvis.  She was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Clyburn-Whitener Sunday school class.  Mrs. Lidkea made it her duty to provide decorations at the church for all special events, especially Lent.  Mrs. Lidkea was a member of the Lions Club of Union and was awarded the “Lion of the Year” award.  She was very active in charities and community services, volunteering her time and resources.

Surviving are her dear friend and caregiver, Eric Kershaw of Spartanburg and her second cousin, Larry Nelson and his family of Michigan.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, May 25, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Bauknight.  Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mr. Joey Dale Harris, age 57, husband of Mary Crawford Harris, of 1939 Jonesville Highway, Union, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Harris was born on January 10, 1961 in Union, a son of the late Joseph Thomas Harris and Sarah Ochiltree Harris.  He was a 1979 graduate of Union High School where he was a former tennis player.  Mr. Harris was retired from Timken.  He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and was an avid hunter.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Heather Nicole Harris of Gaston, SC and Kelsey Elizabeth Harris and fiancé Joshua Simpson of Greenville; two sons, Christopher Boulware of Union and Kyle O’Shields and wife Amber of Union; two sisters, Donna H. Ford and LeighAnne Harris both of Union; three granddaughters, Madison L. Gantt, Kalli R. and Jordy H. O’Shields; his mother-in-law, Betty Crawford of Union; his father-in-law, Marian Crawford and wife Joyce of Union; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Joey Shetley.

Mr. Clyde Daniel “Brother Sprouse” Jennings, age 68, husband of Marlene Burris Jennings, of 249 Oakland Rd., Union, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Jennings was born on March 18, 1950 in Union, SC a son of the late Herman Leroy Jennings and Ora Elizabeth Sprouse O’Shields.  He was reared in the home of his maternal grandparents Clyde E. Sprouse and Carrie Fowler Sprouse.  Mr. Jennings was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College.  He retired in June 2017 from the City of Union as a Waste Water Operator.  Mr. Jennings was a Veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the Union Church of God.  He was an avid Clemson Fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Rodney Shane Jennings and wife Tammy of Gaffney; one godson, Allen Mitchell and wife Kristen of Union; six grandchildren, Kari Jennings, Adam Jennings, Jacob Jennings, Nicholas Jennings, Mark Whiting, and Hope Hardy; five great-grandchildren, Tru Jennings, Alex Hardy, Allison Rodrigues, Haiden Jennings, and Raine Smith; one “brother”, Terry Mitchell and wife Linda of Union; his beloved pet cocker spaniel, Layla; and many special friends and in-laws.  He was predeceased by one sister, Linda Gregory. 

Memorial Services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Randy Smith.

Mrs. Emily Grace Mullinax Quinn passed away May 2, 2018 in hospice care after an extended illness.

She was born in Union, June 20, 1950, to the late Charles Frank Mullinax and Ruth Fowler Mullinax and was formerly married to the late Roy J. Quinn, Jr.

Emily is survived by her companion and best friend, Vernon Stepp. Also surviving are one daughter, Amy Owenby and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor Kristine, Trevor Lane, Kylie Grace, Anderson Wallace and Teagan Paisley. She has one brother, Steve Mullinax and two sisters, Karen Mullinax Hill and Ann Mullinax Horne.

Emily retired from the Department of Social Services after 25 years having worked in the Spartanburg, Greenville and Laurens offices. She was a proud member of the 1968 graduating class of Union High School and was a loyal Yellow Jacket and Gamecock fan for her entire life.

A memorial service was held on May 19, 2018 conducted by the Rev. Sandra Smith.

The family wishes to thank Regency Southern Care Hospice for their love, comfort and professional care of Emily during her illness.

Mrs. Barbara Queen Carter, age 75, of 105 Razor Dr., Greenville, formerly of Jeffries Farm Rd., Jonesville, widow of Rev. Dr. Kenneth Carter, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Carter was born on September 23, 1942 in Union, a daughter of the late Eugene Queen and Jeanette Webb Queen.  She was formerly employed in textiles and later accompanied her husband in his ministry and the ministry of the Carter Family Gospel singers.  Mrs. Carter was a member of Pacolet First Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Penny Carter Knight and husband Charles of Greenville, Sheila Carter Walters of Union, and Donna Carter Simmons of Jonesville; one son, Kelly Carter and wife Carole of Jonesville; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by one sister, Gwendolyn Q. Hendrix and one brother, Donald Queen.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Pacolet First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks and Rev. Junior Gravely.  Burial will follow in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at Pacolet First Baptist Church.

Mr. Gerald Grant Haney, age 62 of 819 Flat Dr., Buffalo, widower of Tammy Moore Haney, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Haney was born in Union, July 13, 1955 a son of the late William Franklin Haney and Daisy Boulware Haney. He was a retired paint contractor and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Haney is survived by three sisters, Sandra H. West of Union, Vanessa H. Hogan and husband Darrell of Cheraw and Linda H. McCallister of Cornelia, GA; two brothers, David Michael Haney and wife Monica and William Haney and wife Shirley all of Union; a step-daughter, Heather Robinson and husband Dale of Spartanburg; two step-sons, Dennis Bevis of Buffalo and Robbie Malone of Atlanta, GA; a special cousin, Tammie V. Haney and husband Stanley of Buffalo; two step-grandchildren, Noah and Abby Robinson; his coffee buddy Kathy Ivey of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. Haney was predeceased by five sisters, Dorothy Justice, Maggie Miller, Rosa Lee Moore, Cindy Gibson and Shelby Jean Turner and one brother, James Haney.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. The family will receive friends immediately following the services.

Mr. Larry F. Vinson, age 70, of 447 Police Club Rd., Union, passed away, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Vinson was born in Union on January 1, 1948 a son of the late Frank E. Vinson and Frances James Vinson.  He was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College.  Mr. Vinson served two tours as a U.S. Navy Seal in Vietnam.  He was employed as an over the road truck driver and finished his career at Adams Brother Logging.

Surviving in addition to his special friend of 30 years, Margaret C. Austin, are two sons, Gregg F. Vinson and wife Kristen of Blacksburg and Morgan L. Vinson and fiancée Brooke McCutcheon of Union; step-daughter, Kelly Shetley and husband Earl of Union; eleven grandchildren, James Suttles, Destiny Fowler, Abigail and Aiden Vinson, Jayden, Carter, Aribella and Morgan “M.J.” Vinson, Tanner Johnson, Allison and Aubree Shetley; and a special great-granddaughter, Chloe Shetley.  He was predeceased by four sisters, Ruth V. Bingham, Catherine V. Robinson, Viola V. Peppers, and Shirley V. Adams.

Graveside memorial services with Military Honors will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Jeff Dean.

Mr. Robert Gordon Sprouse, Sr., age 91, of 3127 Mt Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, widower of Dorothy Thrift Sprouse, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mr. Sprouse was born April 27, 1927 in Union, a son of the late John Thomas Sprouse and Alma Price Sprouse Wix. He was retired from United Merchants—Union Mill. Mr. Sprouse was a member of Putman Baptist Church.


Surviving are two sons, Terry Sprouse and friend Debra Babb and Scott Sprouse and friend Tasha Beheler all of Buffalo; three sisters, Margaret Wade of Union, Barbara Bishop of North Carolina, and Judy Bobo of Union; a daughter-in-law, Joan Sprouse of Union; four grandchildren, Bob Sprouse and wife Lori, Amy S. Price and husband Jeff, Crystal S. Holcombe and Jennifer Sprouse and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Ricky Sprouse and Robert Sprouse, Jr.; three brothers Marvin Earl Sprouse, Donald Sprouse and J.W. Sprouse; and one sister, Dorothy Faulks.


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Mann. Burial will follow at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Donald Gibson, age 82 of 323 N. First St., Lockhart, widower of Carolyn McMahan Gibson passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Mary Black Gaffney Hospital.

Mr. Gibson was born March 10, 1936 in York, a son of the late Roy Gibson and Elizabeth Gregory Gibson.  He was a retired truck driver and truck mechanic.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Gibson Austin of Sharon; a son, Tim Gibson and fiancée, Lynne Dolde of Smyrna; two sisters, Azilee Ashe of Union and Doris Inman of Sharon; a brother, Marvin Gibson of Hickory Grove; four grandchildren, Kodie Austin, Heather Gibson, Holly Boozer, and Brooke Orr; and nine great-grandchildren, Emma Austin, Ava Austin, Mya Austin, Callie Gibson, Summer Porter, Savannah Mathis, Maverick Orr, Lizzie Orr, and Emma Cooper.  He was predeceased by one son, Kenneth Ray Gibson.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Carrol Caldwell.  Burial will follow at Lockhart Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. James Earl “Pea Ridge” Adams, age 74, of 109 Pineland Road, Union, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Adams was born August 22, 1943 in Union a son of the late Hoyle Adams and Maude Gregory Adams Horne.  He was the step-son of the late James “Jimbo” Horne.  Mr. Adams was retired from Milliken & Co. and BHI of Forest City where he was a truck driver.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army and had served in the South Carolina National Guard—Jonesville Unit.  Mr. Adams was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Adams and special friend Mike Robinson of Union and Tonya A. Garner and husband Chris of Charleston; a sister, Joyce Gault and husband Tony of Jonesville; a sister-in-law, Sara Adams of Jonesville; a grandson, Adam Greer of Charleston; special friend Marlene Morris of Spartanburg; the mother of his children, Patricia Harmon of Jonesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one brother, Roy Adams.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mark Truitt.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Terry Aaron Vinson, age 61, husband of Ginger Childers Vinson, of 598 Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Vinson was born November 5, 1956 in Union a son of the late Murphy Jefferson Vinson and Cleo Ivey Vinson.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was former Supervisor at Wellington.  Mr. Vinson was an avid farmer and hunter.  He was a member of Browns Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Ivy Smith and husband Trey of Augusta, GA and Amber Price and husband Chris of Greenville; two granddaughters, Delaney Price and Molly Price both of Greenville; one brother, Stan Vinson and wife Barbara of Simpsonville; one sister, Karen Crocker and husband Jimmy of Union; a special nephew, Tyler Crocker; and his father-in-law, Rev. Paul Childers of Lockhart.  He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Sarah L. Childers.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Brian Childers.  Burial will follow at Browns Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ralph Leo West, age 77, of 1817 Jonesville Highway, husband of Sandra Haney West, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. West was born September 16, 1940 in Union a son of the late Luther West and Lillian Alexander West.  He enjoyed woodcrafting and working to create things with his hands.  Mr. West was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Rhonda Blackwell of Buffalo and Angie Benfield and husband Jeff of Union; three sons, Wayne West, Lyn West, and Ralph “Skip” West, Jr. all of Union; six grandchildren, Dane DePratter, Aaron DePratter, Dustin West, Shaina West, Matthew Ochiltree, and Jake Benfield; and three great-grandchildren, Brayden West, Coltin West, and Bryant Ochiltree.  He was predeceased by one daughter, Tina DePratter; two brothers, J.D. West and Clifford West; and one sister, Mary Vinson.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 7, 2018 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge.  Visitation will be held 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Floyd Donald Barnett, Jr.

Mr. Floyd Donald Barnett, Jr., age 45 of 164 Riley Rd., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Barnett was born in Middletown, CT, September 13, 1972, a son of Ruth LaPierre Barnett of Buffalo and the late Floyd Donald Barnett, Sr.  He was a graduate of Middletown High School and formerly employed in the textile industry.

Surviving in addition to his mother are Barbara Knox Barnett of Union; a daughter, Angel Walden, two sons, Aaron Barnett and Jacob Barnett all of Buffalo; a sister, Arlene Barnett and a brother, Shane Barnett both of Buffalo and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the home of his family.

Freddie Ray McAbee

Mr. Freddie Ray McAbee, age 84, of 213 Seigler Rd., Union, widower of Patricia Lowe McAbee, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Mr. McAbee was born in Chester, December 2, 1933 a son of the late Ezekiel “Zeke” McAbee and Eva Lee McAbee.  He was a retired electrician and a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. McAbee attended Unity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria M. Allen of Greenville and Beverly M. Gossett and husband Daniel of Simpsonville; a sister, Frances Giddens of Union; three grandchildren, Joseph Chance Allen of Union, Angela Hernandez and husband Miguel of Concord, NC and Chad William Gossett and wife Rachel of Gallatin, TN; and three great-granddaughters who call him “Grand-Pappy”, Emaline Gossett, Melanie Gossett and Alexandra Hernandez.  Mr. McAbee was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Steve McAbee.

Memorials may be made to the McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC  29680.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Mrs. Louise Smith Price, age 92, of Catawba St., Union, widow of Justice C. Price, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Price was born November 30, 1925 in Union, a daughter of the late Frank Smith and Bessie Edwards Smith.  She was a graduate of Union High School.  Mrs. Price was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Price Wade and husband Terry of Union and Michele Price Phillips and husband Mike of Charleston; three grandchildren, Rhett Price of Charleston, Jay Hembree of Gastonia, and David Hembree and wife Laura of Union; two great-grandchildren, Kate Price and Nathan Hembree; and three sisters, Ruth Parks and Jo Ann Sweatt both of Union and Betty Groce of Spartanburg.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Sara White and Cornelia Lawter and one brother, Frank Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev Merritt Wentz.  Visitation will be immediately following the services.
