Leroy “Frenchie” Michaud
Buffalo, SC


Mr. Leroy “Frenchie” Michaud, age 65, of 923 Main St. Buffalo, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Michaud was born in Ft. Kent, Maine, December 5, 1948 a son of the late Lawrance and Regina Blanche Vevesque Michaud. He was retired from Subway of Union and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Mr. Michaud was a veteran of the US Navy.

He is survived by his best friend, Tony Wood of the home and “adopted” family members, Brenda Gilliam of Buffalo and Tommy Wood and wife Candy if Cowpens.  Mr. Michaud is also survived by three sisters, Dianna Smith of AL, Linda Vaughan of TX, and Grace Sawdo of FL.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

The family will be at the home, 923 Main St., Buffalo.

Wendy C. Fowler
Union, SC


Ms. Wendy Charlene Fowler, age 48 of 202 N. Gadberry St., Union, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 after a sudden illness.

Ms. Fowler was born in Union, February 16, 1966, a daughter of the late Charles Jordan Fowler, Jr. and Minnie Pearl Bates Fowler.  Ms. Fowler was formerly employed with Milliken Co., Monarch Mill and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three sisters, Elizabeth Fowler, Debra Coats, and Lisa Fowler all of Union; two brothers, Mike Fowler of Union and Tommy Bright of Georgia. Ms. Fowler was predeceased by two sisters, Martha Sinclair and Jackie Garrett and two brothers, Jerry Byrd and Billy Bates.

A memorial service will be held 5:00 PM Monday, June 2, 2014 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Rick Dupree. Visitation will be held immediately following the services in the chapel.

The family will be at the home of her sister, Lisa Fowler, 112 5th St., Union (Ottaray community).

Robin Crocker Burnett

Ms. Robin Crocker Burnett, age 53 of 296 Meansville Rd., Apt 3, Union, SC passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at her home.

Ms. Burnett was born in Union, SC March 16, 1961, a daughter of the late Robert Louie Crocker, Sr. and Racine Johns Crocker. She was formerly employed with United Merchants-Union Mill, Conso Products and Milliken & Co – Cedar Hill Plant. Ms. Burnett attended New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Brandy McGowan and husband Chris of Union and Lacey Burnett and friend Jonathan Miller of Jonesville; a brother, Rob Crocker and wife Emily of Union; three grandchildren: Tabitha and Daren McGowan and Jada Miller; a niece, Logan Crocker; a nephew, Jacob Crocker; a cousin, Carolyn Turner of Union and a great-niece, Madelyn Grace Gibson.

Graveside service will be held 4:00 PM Monday, June 2, 2014 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Douglas Paul Esposito
Pacolet, SC


Mr. Douglas Paul Esposito, age 58 of 504 Chapman Rd., Pacolet, SC, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Esposito was born in Bayside, NY February 12, 1956, a son of the late Michael Esposito and Josephine Vitale Esposito. He was employed with Wal Mart Distribution and was of the Catholic Faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Josephine Esposito; a son, Anthony  Esposito both of Jonesville; three sisters: Carol Graham and husband Gary of Hicksville, NY, Angela Esposito and Michelle Esposito both of NY; an ex-wife, Debbie Esposito of Jonesville and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, May 30, 2014 at Oakbrook Community Church conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Memorials may be made to The Esposito Children’s College Fund, P.O Box 1186, Jonesville, SC 29353.

A reception will follow the service at Oakbrook Community Church.

James Lynn “Jimmy” Tipton

Mr. James Lynn “Jimmy” Tipton, age 51 of 179 S. Cleveland Park, Spartanburg, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Tipton was born in Union, November 6, 1962, a son of Anna Lou Ivey Tipton of Union and the late John Durham Tipton. He was employed with a supplier of BMW in the Greer area. Mr. Tipton was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Anna Lou Tipton, are two nieces: Haleigh and Taylor Tipton of Union and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Tipton was predeceased by a brother, John Allen Tipton and a nephew, Steven Tipton.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ron Gaddy and Rev. Robert Cato.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

 Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Olivia F. Harvey

Mrs. Olivia Fleming Harvey, age 71, wife of Ed Harvey of 660 Riley Rd., Buffalo, SC., went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Harvey was born August 5, 1942 in Union County, a daughter of the late A.B. Fleming and Flora Lawson Fleming. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired after 30 years of service from Cone Mill where she worked as a Cost Accountant. Mrs. Harvey was a faithful member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and helped with the MYF of the church.  She was a very loving and caring person to all who knew her.

Surviving in addition to her husband are to beloved pets: Precious Joy and Sue Ann of the home; and a number of cousins.  Mrs. Harvey was a surrogate mother to a lot of children.

Services will be held Monday, May 26, 2014 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Ron Towery. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 prior to the service at the church.

Frances Emogene Sanders

Mrs. Frances Emogene Sanders, age 68, of 473 Hickory Grove Rd, Gaffney, widow of William Earl Sanders,  went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 22, 2014.

Mrs. Sanders was born in Spartanburg, SC December 9, 1945, a daughter of the late Woodrow Pridmore and Lena Fowler Pridmore. She was a member of Mesopotamia United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Sanders was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are two daughters: Frances Marie Gault and husband Keith “Kebo” of Union and Barbara Kay Guyton and husband William of Pacolet; a sister, Linda Melton of Spartanburg; two brothers: Robert D. Pridmore of Pacolet and Joe Donald Pridmore of Jonesville; two grandchildren: Robin Shields and husband Jonathan and Nicole Guyton and two great-grandchildren: Jackson Shields and Holden Shields. Mrs. Sanders was predeceased by a grandson, William Christopher Guyton and a brother, Wayne Mason Pridmore.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Mesopotamia United Methodist Church Cemetery, 854 Hickory Grove Rd., Gaffney, SC 29340, conducted by Rev. Tommy Hill and Rev. Dr. Tim Driggers.

Mr. Bobby Smith, age 72, of 1862 Hwy 66, Whitmire, widower of Flora H. Smith, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

Mr. Smith was born in Pauline, SC September 21, 1941, a son of the late Sims Smith and Rosa Lee Bumgarner, Smith. He was retired from the Logging business and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Vietnam Conflict.

Surviving are three daughters: Regina Faulkenberry and husband Ronnie of Hickory Grove, Pamela Arrowood and husband Dennis of Whitmire and Sandra Toomey of the home; a son, Robert Smith and wife Kim of Buffalo; three sisters: Sue Witherspoon of MI, Pat Akscin of NC and Betty Brown of Union; three brothers: Joe Smith, Rick Smith both of Union and Mike Smith of MI; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a sister, Angela Millwood and a brother, Larry Smith.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Wood’s Ferry Recreation Center at Broad River in Chester County conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Todd Davis.

Madge Bank Belue

Mrs. Madge Bank Harris Belue, age 91, of 512 Toluca St., Union, widow of Jesse Edward Belue, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.


Mrs. Belue was born in Union on August 30, 1922 a daughter of the late Joseph Moody Harris and Julie Palmer Harris.  She was a retired caregiver at the former Union County Nursing Home and had previously worked for Milliken and Co. for many years.  Mrs. Belue was a faithful member of Tanglewood Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are six sons, Wayne Belue and wife Marian of Jonesville, Larry Belue of Union, Dennis Belue and wife Debi of Lake Wateree, Neil Belue and wife Carolyn of Union, Ricky Belue of Gaffney and Jimmy Belue and wife Robin of Union; one sister, Lucy Stone of Union; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Belue was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine H. Grady; two sisters, Roxie Garner and Bertha “Pert” McCoy; three brothers, Marshall Harris, J. M. Harris, and Willie Harris.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Heartland of Union, Gentiva Home Health and Wallace Thomson Hospital for their care of Mrs. Belue during her illness.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Tanglewood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Branch and Rev. Glen Ribelin.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.  The following grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, Mickey Belue, Jamie Ivey, William Belue, Josh Belue, Jason Belue and Daniel Belue.

Weldon L. Eaves

Mr. Weldon Lane Eaves, age 83, husband of Ester Sue Crocker Eaves of 107 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2014.

Mr. Eaves was born in Kelton, June 16, 1930, a son of the late Paul and Sibbie Morris Eaves.  He was a graduate of Union High School, Spartanburg Junior College and Newberry College. Mr. Eaves retired from the South Carolina Department of Education and was a veteran of the US Army. A lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Mr. Eaves served in many offices of the church and was a member of the choir.  Mr. Eaves was a member of the American Legion and Woodmen of the World.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Timothy Lane Eaves and wife Sheryl of Mayodan, NC; a daughter, Anita Smith and husband Whitney of Carlisle; three sisters, Essie Vinson, Kitty Vinson and Ann Sprouse all of Union; granddaughters, Carol Ouzts and husband Wade, Ashley Eaves, Daisy Smith, and Hannah Smith; grandsons, Randy Lane Eaves and wife Gabby and Daniel Smith; great-grandson, Harrison Ouzts and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Eaves was predeceased by brothers, Bill, Ed, Ralph and Jimmy Eaves and a sister Laura Comer.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, May 26, 2014 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Donna Eidson.

Active pallbearers will be William “Butch” Crocker, Stan Eaves, Ronnie Eaves, Robert Palmer, Mike Massey and Ronnie Crocker.

Betty Smoot Barron

Mrs. Betty Smoot Barron, age 81, of Austell, GA, widow of Rev. Robert G. Barron, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Wellstar-Cobb Hospital.

Mrs. Barron was born on April 25, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia a daughter of the late Alonzo Bell Smoot and Willis White Smoot.  She was a former resident of the Kirkwood Section of Atlanta.  Mrs. Barron was a graduate of Atlanta Business College.  She was a faithful Pastor’s wife and served alongside her husband in his ministry as a Presbyterian Pastor and particularly enjoyed children’s ministry.  Mrs. Barron was a member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church and as long as her health permitted she was a member of the Presbyterian Women. 

Surviving are a sister, Lillian Smoot of Decatur, GA.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 23, 2014 at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church, 402 Oak Mountain Road, Carrollton, GA, 30116, conducted by the Rev. Debbie Wells.

Mrs. Cynthia “Sissy” Jennings Lawson, age 59, loving and beloved wife of Sidney L. Lawson of 989 Meansville Rd., Union, went home to be with her Lord, Friday May 16, 2014.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Union, July 26, 1954, a daughter of the late Jack Jennings, Sr. and Nancy Carol Brown Jennings.  She was a graduate of Union High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Winthrop College and graduated Limestone College with a Master in Education.  Mrs. Lawson was a retired school teacher having taught 29 years with the Union Co. School District at Excelsior Middle School and Buffalo Elementary School. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church and was a loving and much loved sister and aunt.


Surviving in addition to her husband are a sister, June Carol Jennings; two brothers, Jack Jennings, Jr. and wife Janet  and David Gene Jennings and wife Rebecca all of Union; a sister-in-law, Maryann L. Morrison and husband Rick of Spartanburg; a special aunt, Rebecca Smith of Pauline and special friend, Pat Kelly of McBee; nieces and nephews, Angela J. Mattox and husband Denny, Shelly B. Hunter S. Harris, Jr.
Union, SC


Mr. Hunter Sells Harris, Jr., age 84, husband of Anna Ruth Roberts Harris, of 207 Glendale Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mr. Harris was born in Union, October 1, 1929, a son of the late Hunter S. Harris, Sr. and Etha Palmer Harris.  A graduate of Union High School, he continued his education at Clemson University and received his BS degree in Civil Engineering in 1952. While at Clemson, he was part of the Clemson Senior Platoon and has faithfully remained a supporter of the school by being an IPTAY Representative and supporting the Alumni Association. 

After graduation, Mr. Harris served in the US Army and earned his commission as a First Lieutenant in 1954.  He continued serving as an engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers during which time he earned his PE (Professional Engineering) status.  After service with the Army Corps of Engineers, Mr. Harris went to work for and retired from Lockhart Power Company.

Mr. Harris was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sam Cain Adult 3 Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Union and had previously served as President. He was a supporter of the Union Co. YMCA and a member of the Union Co. VFW.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years, Ann Ruth Roberts Harris of the home is a daughter, Jane Hunter Barnhill and husband Mark of Clemmons, NC; a son, Hunter S. Harris, III and wife Perry of Summerville; four grandchildren, Ana Hill and husband Jade of Summerville, Jane Palmer Harris of Studio City, CA, Nancy Hunter Barnhill and Preston Barnhill both of Clemmons; and one great-granddaughter, Ansley Grace Hill. Mr. Harris was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Hunter Harris.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Rick Pendleton.  Burial with Military Honors will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bannie Kennedy, Preston Barnhill, Jade Hill, John Brown, Ace Comer, Marvin Bettis, Jeff Roberts, Tim Roberts and Buck Roberts.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the services.

Ralph M. Jones

Mr. Ralph M. “Deacon” Jones, age 82, husband of Norma Sams Jones of 181Tom Kelly Circle, Carlisle, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum.

Mr. Jones was born in Asheville, NC, the son of the late Samuel M. and Ida Leah Laughter Jones.  He was a graduate of Woodfin High School in Asheville and attended the Asheville-Biltmore College. Mr. Jones retired after 30 years with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was of the Baptist Faith.  He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and had coached the Elks team in Dixie Youth Baseball in the 1970’s. Mr. Jones was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are three sons, Stuart Jones and wife Laura of Spartanburg, Stephen Jones and wife Julie of Salisbury, NC and Stacey Jones and wife Jill of Rock Hill; a daughter, Angie Jones Lawson and fiancée Mike Hill of Union; seven grandchildren, Whitney Blake Jones and fiancée Kris Mann of Tuscaloosa, AL, Nathan and Aaron Jones of New York, NY, Thaddeus Jones of Spartanburg, Connor and Olivia Westbrook of Rock Hill, and Samuel Lawson and his father Jeff Lawson of Union; and a special friend, Clarence Sanders of Union.  Mr. Jones was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Jones Penland and two brothers, Roy and Ray Jones.

A celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2014 at Salem Baptist Church, 1835 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, conducted by Rev. Jim Wiseman, Rev. Stuart Jones and Rev. Rick Gunter. Mr. Jones’ Carlisle neighbors and employees of Cone Mill are asked to sit in a group.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.

Mr. Arthur C. “Arty” Harmon, Jr , age 54, husband of Pamela Black Harmon of 114 Blackstock Rd., Pauline, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mr. Harmon was born in Union, SC August 31, 1959, a son of Kay Fisher Hopson of Spartanburg and the late Arthur C. Harmon, Sr. He was a graduate of Union High School and had attended Spartanburg Methodist College, USCS and Clemson. He was a construction worker and was a loving and dedicated son, husband, and father.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters: Ashley Harmon of Jonesville, Alyson Harmon, EmmaJean Harmon, Danica Harmon all of Pauline and Kaylyn Ellis of Pacolet; a sister, Lisa Dunaway; a brother, Terry Harmon and Shannon Fleming all of Spartanburg and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr.Harmon was first married to Sherrie Mason Harmon of Jonesville. He was predeceased by a son, Troy Harmon.

Betty Jean Mitchell

Mrs. Betty Jean Dabbs Mitchell, age 78 of 121 Forest Street, Jonesville, widow of George Mitchell, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Lockhart, May 22, 1935, a daughter of the late George Russell Dabbs and Myrtle Horne Dabbs. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Jonesville Elementary School Cafeteria, she had formerly worked for Union County Senior Citizens Jonesville Center. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Choir, the Miriam Soto Group, Happy Hearts Club, Widows Club, and the Maude Rochester Sunday School Class.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Jeff Dean and Rev. Ralph Brown.

Dixie Erin Kendrick, infant daughter of Bradley O’Neal Kendrick and Casey Elizabeth Kendrick of 418 Old US Hwy. 176, Whitmire, passed away on May 9, 2014.

Dixie is survived also by two brothers, Michael “Mikey” Ray Kendrick, II and Brady Lee Kendrick both of the home; her maternal grandparents, Gregory and Jeanne (Lynch) Uzar of San Francisco, CA; her paternal grandmother, Sandra K. Spencer of Whitmire; paternal great-grandmother, Juanita Kendrick of Union; maternal great-grandmother, Celeste Lynch of Chappells; aunts, Bridget Uzar of Silverstreet, and Carleigh Kendrick and Sarah Powell of Boiling Springs, NC; and other aunts and uncles, Scott and Laura Kendrick, Kevin and Meggie Kendrick all of Whitmire. Mrs. Mary Ellen Inman Chambers, age 85, of 212 Seigler Road, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years George Chandler Chambers.

Mrs. Chambers was born in Union, SC on August 12, 1928 a daughter of the late George and Mamie Vaughan Inman. She was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. Mrs. Chambers was retired from Family Practice of Union. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she was a choir member and a member of WMU. Mrs. Chambers was an active contributor to Relay for Life and also contributed to various scholarships at North Greenville University. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Jo Lancaster and husband Mark of Buffalo; a granddaughter, Kelly Scott and husband David of Union; a grandson, Matthew Lancaster of Buffalo; two sister-in-laws, Beuna Inman of Union and Gwendlyn Fisher of Buffalo; a niece, Mamie Bailey and husband Dwight of Simpsonville; four nephews, Torance Inman and wife Bernice of Union, Ralph Inman and wife Patricia of Marrietta, GA, Bobby Eaves and wife Faye of Greer, and G.I. Inman and wife Midge of Madisonville, TN. Mrs. Chambers was predeceased by two sisters and seven brothers.

Mr. John L. “JL” Jackson, age 76 of 214 Pine Street, Buffalo, widower of Vicki Fisher Jackson, passed away, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Jackson was born in Pauline, SC January 8,1938, a son of the late John Jackson and St. Lawrence Lawson Jackson. He retired as a supervisor at Cone Mill.

Mrs. Marlene E. Shugart, age 76, wife of James W. “Dickie” Shugart of 4314 Cabal Rd., Sharon, SC passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Shugart was born in York, SC December 13, 1937, a daughter of the late James Leslie Smart and Willie Mae Lowry Smart. She retired from Milliken & Co- Lockhart and Gaffney Plants and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lockhart. Mrs. Shugart was also a member of the Lockhart Community Club.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Lynn Shugart Parkins and husband Donnie of Lockhart, Leigh Shugart Swad and husband Daniel of Pauline; two sons: Marty Shugart of Union and Travis Shugart and wife Julie of Lockhart; two sisters: Marcelle Armstrong and husband Kenneth of Lexington and Brenda Hall of York; eight grandchildren: Jondavid Parkins, Jared Parkins, Tyler Shugart, Jordan Parkins, Kaleigh Owens, Brett Shugart, Kylie Matthews and Gabe Swad and four great-grandchildren: Tanner Owens, Austin Owens Abigayle Parkins and Maddie Parkins.

Mrs. Linda Gault Gibson, age 67, of 309 Monarch Hwy., Union, widow of Eulis J. Gibson, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Jonesville, May 20, 1946, a daughter of J.C. Gault and Pearl Horne Gault. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School where she was Homecoming Queen in 1966. Mrs. Gibson retired from the Monarch Elementary School cafeteria. She was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church where she kept the nursery, taught Sunday School and was a faithful member of the V.I.P. group. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she always had a big smile and an “I love you” for everyone she met. Mrs. Gibson also cared for her neighbors and enjoyed cooking and looking out for them.

Surviving are three sons, Robert Gibson and wife Amy of Union; Preston Gibson and wife Annette of Pauline and Howard “Wahoo” Gibson and wife Stacy also of Union; four sisters, Shirley G. Faucette of Jonesville, Lib Whitt and husband Perry of Darlington, her twin sister, Brenda Fesler of Caw, OK and Peggy O’Dell and husband Donald of Sharon; four grandchildren, Carmen Gibson, Tyler Gibson, Abby Gibson and Preston Gibson; and her first great-granddaughter due soon. She is also survived by two special sons, Scott Barnett of Buffalo and Joel Brannon of Chesnee; and two special sisters-in-law; Bessie Vinson of Union and Margie Goodwin of Jonesville. Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmy Lee Gault and Donald “Duck” Gault.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of Heartland of Union, D-Wing, for their special care of Mrs. Gibson during her illness.

Mrs. Mary Emmett Gist Voiselle, age 88 of 205 Churchill Street, Union, widow of William Earle “Bill” Voiselle, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014.

Mrs. Voiselle was born in Union, December 21, 1925, a daughter of the late David Christopher Gist and Claudia Wylie Gist. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Bell South. Mrs. Voiselle was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are five sons: Charles Randall “Randy” Voiselle and wife Betty of Ringgold, GA, Philip Earle Voiselle of Union, Jon Michael Voiselle and wife Nancy of Atlanta and Union, Robert David Voiselle and William Stephen Voiselle both of Newborn, GA; two brothers: Robert Wylie Gist of Union and John David Gist of Silver Springs, MD; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Mrs. Voiselle was predeceased by two sisters, a brother and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Voiselle’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Mrs. Mary Belcher Crocker age 89, formerly of S. Boyce St., Union passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Crocker was born in Greenville, November 5, 1924, a daughter of the late Lawrence G. and Mary Gardin Holcombe.  She was a graduate of Parker High School and was a Homemaker.  Mrs. Crocker was a member of Unity United Methodist Church and attended Covenant Baptist Church. She was first married to the late Aromus Belcher.

 Surviving are a daughter, Glenda Owens of Jonesville; 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Crocker was predeceased by a daughter, Shelia Ann Huntsinger.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey.

Visitation will be held prior to the services Sunday from 1:30 until 2:45 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen Eidson “Peck” Cranford, age 84 of 114 Douglas Heights, Union, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Cranford was born in Union, SC August 15, 1929, a son of the late Hinton Dupree Cranford and Emmie Dora Eidson Cranford. He was a graduate of Union High School and a 1949 graduate of Wofford College. Mr. Cranford retired as co-owner of J. Cohen Company. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a Mason. Mr. Cranford was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters, Allison C. Thompson and husband Scott of Lockhart and Jeri C. Inman and husband Johnny of Union; a son, Jeffrey Martin Cranford of Union; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr Cranford was predeceased by a son, Eddie Wayne Cranford, a sister, Martha Bullington and a brother, H.D. “Bubber” Cranford, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 4, 2014 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.
