Mr. Joe Fox Bradburn, age 78, husband of Janet Turney Bradburn of 116 Spruce Street, Union, SC died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the home of his daughter in Union.

Mr. Bradburn was born in Union, SC July 31, 1928, a son of the late Richard Bradburn and Maude Bradburn. He retired from the City of Union and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a member of the Hostess Committee and was an active member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Bradburn was first married to the late Jane Hicks Bradburn.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jeanne Malone and son in law Blake Lawson and Suzanne Duncan and husband John, a granddaughter, April Julian and husband Joshua, three great-grandchildren: Michael Eubanks, Eligh Julian and Whitney Duncan all of Union, a sister, Barbara B. Everingham and a brother, Sam Bradburn both of Hendersonville, NC. Mr. Bradburn was predeceased by a sister and three brothers: Ada Belle B. Huntley, John Bradburn, Ray Bradburn and Harold Bradburn.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Jim Palmer. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Don Cody, Kenny Price, Dudley Adams, Gene Gregory, Sammy Sumner and Don Shetley. The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:45 PM Thursday to form the Honorary Escort: Al Smith, Henry Vaughn, Stan Jenkins, James Coffer and Tommy Anthony. Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class and of the Hostess Committee of Tabernacle Baptist Church and also the staff of Hospice of S.C. are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:30 PM Thursday prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Olive Lucille Lawson West, age 91, of 1602 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Pauline, widow of Hartsell Larry West died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital Downtown in Greenville.

Mrs. West was born in Pauline, SC March 21, 1916, a daughter of the late James Marion Lawson and Hannah Jones Lawson. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and was retired from Conso Products. Mrs. West was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter: Shirley Mitchell of Union; two sons: Bobby Morris West of Pauline and Fred West and wife Janis of Union; a niece, Freida Moss of Union; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. West was predeceased by a son, Larry Dean West and a granddaughter, Sherry West Spry.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev.S cott Cobb and Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dell Mitchell, Ernie West, Tyler West, Ben West, Bud Mabry, Jeff Spry, Tim Ott and Steve Morrow. The following are asked to sit in a group: Members of Mrs. West’s Sunday School Class of Mt. Mr. Willard Montgomery "Monty" Hines, Jr. of Richland, Washington, died at his home.

Mr. Hines was born in Union, S.C., the son of Willard M."Wishie" and Margaret Clark Hines of Union.

Mr. Hines was a graduate of Union High School, received a Bachelor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1970 and a Juris Doctorate of Law Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1974.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter Katie Soto and husband Jeremy of Duncan; a son Matt Hines of Columbia.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 7, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. John Cribb. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at the graveside.

Mrs. Louise Crocker Smith, age 81, of 222 S. Boyce Street, Apt E3, Union, SC, widow of Sam. J. Smith died Monday, May 7, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born in Pacolet, SC, May 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Will Knox and Amelia Gaden Knox. She retired from Milliken & Co- Monarch Plant and was former owner of Crocker’s Grocery. Mrs. Smith was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Joyce Brawley Ward of Union, two sons: George Michael Brawley of Jonesville and Paul Brawley of Union, a sister, Betty Bailey of Robinsonville, NC, a brother, William C. Ferguson of Flint, MI, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by a son, Dean Brawley.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robert Branch.

Active pallbearers will be Jackie Brawley, Cliff Dill, David Sinclair, Darrell Justice, Ronnie Alman and Joe Moore.

Mrs. Irene Murphy Knox Pendleton, age 79 of 1087 Pineland Rd., Union, SC died suddenly Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Pendleton was born in Union, SC February 8, 1928, a daughter of the late Paul Murphy and Ida Rogers Murphy. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Pendleton was first married to the late Clyde Knox, Sr.

Surviving are a companion of many years, Hal Pendleton of Union, four daughters: Mary A. Fleming and husband Arthur and Jean Walden all of Spartanburg, Kathy Fowler and husband Ken of Union and Wanda Garner and husband Ted of Gaffney; two sons: William C. Knox, Jr and wife Karin and Roy Knox all of Union; a sister, Daisy Gregory of Union; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pendleton was predeceased by a sister, Hilda Johnson, two brothers, Robert Murphy and Wayne Murphy and a grandson, Ricky Garner.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Keith Sweat. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Vera Sanford Medford, age 90, of 231 Tempy Hill Rd., Buffalo, SC, widow of Carlus Medford died Friday, May 11, 2007 at Spartanburg Hospital Restorative Care.

Mrs. Medford was born in Clyde, NC July 11, 1916, a daughter of the late Vinson Mac Sanford and Fannie Woody Sanford. She retired from United Merchants-Buffalo Plant and was a member of the Union Church of God. Mrs. Medford was first married to the late Ernest Vance Snyder.

Survivors are a son, James Snyder and wife Cora of Buffao; a brother, Amos Sanford; a sister, Darlene Roberts; four grandchildren: Melissa Inman and husband Bruce, Teresa Kurimcak and husband Jim, Denise Powers and husband Mike and Lewayne Watkins; three great-grandchildren: Maggie Kurimcak, Michelle Powers and Cory Powers; two great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Madison; two step-great-grandchildren: Lauren Vassey and Lindsay Inman. Mrs. Medford was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Snyder Watkins.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Union Church of God conducted Rev. Alton Stone. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Doris Jean Laxton Henderson, age 75, widow of Robert Keith Henderson of 319 Belvue Dr., Union, died Saturday, May 12, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Union, April 25, 1932, a daughter of the late John Wesley Laxton and Ada Kitchens Laxton. She was retired from Sonoco Products and was formerly owner of Henderson Plumbing with her husband. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ethel Thompson Sunday School Class.

Surviving are three daughters: Cheryl Henderson of the home, Jean Lawson Harvey and husband Ken of Gaffney and Patricia Lawson Vanderford of Union; two sons: Richard Eugene Henderson and wife Wendy and M. Keith Henderson and wife Faye all of Union; three sisters: Meta Ward and Ann Turner of Union and Kaye Burgess of Jonesville; 9 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by a brother: Johnny Laxton and two sisters: Mildred Hughes and Betty Jo Pettit.

Graveside services will be held 5:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Chaplain Stewart Smith.

Mrs. Mary Kathleen Lawson, age 89, widow of James Sumner Lawson, formerly of 359 Putman Rd., Buffalo, died Saturday, May 12, 2007 at Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Lawson was born in West Springs, SC, February 7, 1918, a daughter of the late Guy and Kathleen Betsill Lawson. She was a graduate of West Springs High School and a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter: Barbara Casey and husband Ruskin of Woodruff; a son: J. Bruce Lawson of Buffalo; four grandchildren: Roger Casey, Brian Lawson, Brad Lawson and Chad Lawson; two great-grandchildren: Blake Lawson and Hunter Lawson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2007 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Ted Hodges and Rev. Chad Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Marion Pettit Hodge, age 83, widow of Gene Hodge of 900 Arthur Blvd. Union, died at her home, Friday, May 11, 2007.

Mrs. Hodge was born in Spartanburg, SC, February 17, 1924, a daughter of the late John W. and Lottie B. Pettit. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hodge was retired from P and C Mechanical.

Surviving are a daughter: Becky H. Sanders and husband Paul of Union; one brother: Winston Pettit and wife Angell of Gastonia, NC; two grandsons: Chris Sanders and wife Lisa of Pacolet and Dr .Craig Sanders and wife Melissa of Athens, Ga.; and a beloved great-granddaughter: Bailey Grace Sanders. Mrs. Hodge was predeceased by a daughter: Celia Denise Hodge and a sister: Muriel Pettit.

Graveside service was held 2:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2007 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Allen Senn.

Mrs. Lillian Beheler Shrader, age 62, wife of Frank E. Shrader of 208 S. 2nd St., Lockhart, died Saturday from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Shrader was born in Union, September 4, 1944, a daughter of the late Alton "Bo" and Verona Lawson Beheler. She was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and attended Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Shrader was formerly employed with Sonoco Products.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Jeanie Belue and friend Michael Johnson of Lockhart and Sherri S. Johnson of Union; two sons: Larry "Shorty" Burgess Jr. and wife Michelle "Mickey" of Buffalo and Raymond A. Burgess Sr. and wife Monique "Mo" of Union; two sisters: Margaret Ham of Travelers Rest and Sarah Tollison of Union; three brothers: Billy Beheler of Union, Stephen Beheler, Sr. of Jonesville and James H. Mr. Wesley Eugene "Buddy" Quinn, age 59, formerly of Union, SC died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Quinn was born in Union, SC, June 16, 1947, a son of the late Barney and Ruby Nell Davis. He was formerly employed with Carolina Country Club and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors are a daughter, Lisa Wines of Spartanburg; a son, Wesley Chad Murphy of Union, two sisters: Brenda Gilbert and husband Joe and Debra Caughman and husband Gary, a brother, Dennis Quinn and wife Venessa all of Union and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

James "Chick" Liner
Union, SC

Mr. James E. "Chick" Liner, age 84, husband of Jennie Smith Liner of 208 Birchwood Drive, Union, SC died Monday, May 14, 2007 at his home.

Mr. Liner was born in Buffalo, SC December 20, 1922, a son of the late Henry Clay and Dora Malone Liner. He was a retired building contractor with Liner Construction and attended Union High School. Mr. Liner was a US Navy Veteran of World War II having served with the CV5 Unit aboard the USS Yorktown. He was in the battle of the Coral Sea and was a survivor of the Battle at Midway when the USS Yorktown sank. Mr. Liner was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Union BPO Elks Lodge 1321 and Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Jennie Anne L. Rampey and husband John of Union and Jane L. Petty and husband Dewey of Union; a special niece, Felicia P. Bennett of Lexington, SC; two sisters: Gerald L. Roark of Buffalo and Peggy L. Shetley of Union; a brother, Wallace Liner of Buffalo; seven grandchildren: Rebecca Sessions, Benjamin J. Hodge and wife Heidi, Emma H. Monroe and husband Chad, Margaret C. Goodson and husband Clint, John Walker Rampey, Catherine G. Wilson and Jennie L. Wilson; four great-grandchildren: Jacob A. Taylor, Alayna Monroe, Kaylyn Hodge and Claire Monroe, a sister-in-law, Annabel S. Alverson; two brothers-in-law: Dewitt Smith and Harold Smith. Mr. Liner was predeceased by a daughter, Jamie L. Liner, three brothers and three sisters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Franklin D. "Buddy" Morris with Military Honors.

Mrs. Estelle Patterson Rochester, age 79, of 351 Houston Street, Pacolet, SC, widow of Ralph Rochester died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Rochester was born in Lockhart, SC July 5, 1927, a daughter of the late Fred Patterson and Plummie Franklin Patterson. She was a retired textile worker having worked at Limestone Plant and J.P. Stevens- Jonesville Plant. Mrs. Rochester was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Thelma Kirby of Union and Lillian Fowler of Pacolet; two sons: David H. Rochester of Pacolet and William A. Rochester of the home, a grandson, Robert E. Blackwell reared in the home; a sister Ellaree Upton of Pacolet; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rochester was predeceased by a grandchild, Connie Rochester.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2007 at Hamette’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Frank Bright.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday night at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mr. Earl Kingsmore, age 80, husband of 59 years to Dale Sprouse Kingsmore of 101 Beverly Drive, Union, SC died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Kingsmore was born in Buffalo, SC November 20, 1926, a son of the late Carey Kingsmore and Ella Farmer Kingsmore. He was a retired textile millwright, a member of the First Baptist Church of Union and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Kingsmore was a Veteran of the US Army-Air Force having served in WWII.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Danny Earl Kingsmore and wife Candy of Winnsboro, SC and Monty Dale Kingsmore and wife Wendi of Union; two sisters: Edna Davis and husband Leon and Beverly West all of Buffalo; two brothers: Glen Kingsmore and wife Shirley and Charles Kingsmore and wife Corene all of Greenwood; four grandchildren: Angela Crider and husband Scott and Travis Kingsmore and wife Staci all of St. Matthews, SC, Emily Kingsmore and Ty Kingsmore both of Union; two great-grandchildren: Jeremy Crider and Blakley Kingsmore. Mr. Kingsmore was predeceased by a brother and four sisters: Bobby Kingsmore, Peggy Moore, Ella Mae Dallas, Margaret Willard and Frances Burgess.

Mr. Charles A. "Jimmy" Cabaniss, age 78, of 4731B Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy, Lockhart Community, Union, SC died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cabaniss was born in Lockhart, SC October 1, 1928, a son of the late Alvin L. Cabaniss and Cynthia Quinton Cabaniss. He retired from the S.C. National Guard and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Cabaniss was first married to Helen Gault Bailey of Lockhart and then to the late Beatrice Gregory Cabaniss.

Mrs. Elsie O’Neal Eubanks Wright, age 81 of Union, SC, widow of Forrest E. "Whitey" Wright died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in Spartanburg, SC.

Mrs. Wright was born in Glenn Springs, SC July 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Ross and Amanda Cunningham Eubanks. She retired from Milliken & Co- Monarch Plant and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Renea Wright of Greer, SC; a son, Troy Arnold Wright of Union; a brother, Tommy Eubanks of Augusta, Ga; four grandchildren: Kevin Lomax, Nicole Fowler and husband Brian, Tracy Vermillion and husband Jon and Troy Wright and wife Jennifer of Union; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Tuten, Ashlyn Fowler, Kourtney Vermillion, Karson Vermillion, Karrah Vermillion and Amelia Wright.

Mrs. Iris Moore Rogers, age 55, wife of Donald Rogers of 2479 Country Club Rd., Spartanburg, SC died Monday, May 21, 2007 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Lockhart, SC December 27, 1951, a daughter of the late James William Moore and Jessie Cameron Moore. She was a 1969 Graduate of Lockhart High School and she was employed with CWS Insurance Company of Spartanburg. Mrs. Rogers was awarded Insurance Rookie of the Year and Insurance Woman of the Year. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Hedie Gillian; a son: Christopher Rogers both of Spartanburg; two sisters: Shirley McCloud and husband Rick of Union and Edna Chapman and husband John of Prosperty, SC; a brother: James "Jim" Moore, Jr of Lockhart.

Mrs. Vanderford was born in Union, April 5, 1940 a daughter of Kathleen Bentley Hutchings of Union. She was retired from the Union Co. School System as Librarian of Lockhart High School. Mrs. Vanderford had 31 years service in the education field. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a son: Lemond Vanderford of Union and two grandchildren: Kayla and Caleb Vanderford.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Tim Huckaby. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Carter was born in Spartanburg County, SC November 13, 1919, a daughter of the late Marion Phillips and Myrtle Arizonia Puckett Phillips. She was a member of Truth Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors are a son, Albert Carter and wife Mary Jo of Jonesville; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Carter of Jonesville; a sister, Mildred Morris of Greenville; a brother, James Phillips of Johnson City, TN, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by a son, Dr. Rev. Kenneth Carter.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Jonesville, SC April 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Ernest McBride and Lilly Rochester McBride. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: Mike Ivey and wife Paulette and Jerry Ivey and wife Patty all of Buffalo; four sisters: Carol Faucette, Muriel Freeman, Emily Eaves and Helen Fowler all of Jonesville; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Ivey, Jason Ivey, Jeremy Ivey, Tammy Lawson Amanda Ivey, Katrina Ivey and Christina Wright and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ivey was predeceased by a sister, Ernestine Vaughan.

Mrs. Puckett was born in Union, Sc November 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Fred Moss, Sr and Mattie Cody Moss. She was a member the Greater Union Church.

Survivors are a son, Arthur Earl Puckett and wife Lucy of Union; two sisters: Dora Lanier of Union and Lois Wells of Greenville; a brother: Fred Moss of Union; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Puckett was predeceased by a daughter and two sons: Violet Lipsey, William Pucket and Bobby Lee Puckett; a sister and three brothers: Jeanette Maxwell, Paul Moss, Albert Moss and Matthew Moss.

Survivors are two step-daughters: Nickie Powers of California and Carolyn Bearden of Texas; two nephew: James Ivey reared in the home and Randall Gregory both of Union; a sister: Rachel Gregory of Union; a brother: Ralph D. Gregory of Union and a number of other nieces and nephews.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Alexander of Whitmire; a sister, Candice Willard of Whitmire and four grandchildren. Mrs. Trammell was predeceased by a daughter Gladys Harmon and a grandchild, Michael Wallen.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Union, SC June 24, 1942, a daughter of A.C. McKinney of Jonesville and the late Katie Ruth Barnette McKinney. She was formerly employed with Union Chrysler-Dodge and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are three daughters: Tami L. Blackk and husband Ken, Amy L. Kingsmore and husband David and Jill S. Nichols and a son-in-law Skee Nichols all of Union; step- mother, Barbara L. McKinney of Jonesville; five grandchildren: Josh Black, Taylor Black, Emily Black, Bailey Kingsmore and Bradon Kingsmore and a special friend, Hugh Grady.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 1, 2007 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery.
