Raymond Edward Duncan, Sr.
Union, SC


Mr. Raymond Edward Duncan, Sr., age 83, of 511 Lakeview Heights, Union, widow of Bessie Jennings Duncan, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 30, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Duncan was born May 22, 1936 in Union, a son of the late Mack Duncan and Iva Smith Duncan.  He was a graduate of Union High School and pursued a college career through Milliken & Company.  Mr. Duncan retired as Plant Manager from Milliken & Company and had worked for Bibb Company.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War.  Mr. Duncan was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Treasurer as long as his health permitted.  He was instrumental in organization and building of Ottaray Baptist Church.  Mr. Duncan was a devoted Christian, Husband, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Knox and husband Gettys of Spartanburg and Beth Hawkins and husband Jimmy of Union; a son, Raymond Edward Duncan, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Union; six grandchildren: Tripp Duncan and wife Mica of West Springs, Brandy Duncan of Laurens, Nikki Knox of Advance, NC, Heather Franklin and husband Rev. Lee Franklin of Pacolet, Kacie Gillespie and husband Michael of Wilmington, NC and Colby Hawkins and wife Ashley of Spartanburg and twelve great-grandchildren.  In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Duncan was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. 

Due to the current health crisis, private graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Lee Franklin.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the caregivers of Heartland Hospice and the home caregivers for their love and care of Mr. Duncan.

The family will be at their respective homes.


Daniel Lee McGlocklin
Union, S.C.


Mr. Daniel Lee “Danny” McGlocklin, age 76, husband of Claudette Wright Brewington of 1049 Main St., Buffalo, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at his home.

Mr. McGlocklin was born in Spartanburg, May 16, 1943, a son of the late Preston McGlocklin and Agnes Evans McGlocklin Griffith. He retired as building inspector for Bell Telephone (US West) and had later worked in maintenance in the textile industry after moving to Union. Mr. McGlocklin was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a Shriner.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Lisa Howell and husband Joe of Rossville, GA; three sons, Randy McGlocklin and wife Cristy of Happy Valley, MN, John McGlocklin of Minneapolis, MN and James McGlocklin of Duluth, MN; two sisters, Carol M. Johnson and husband Michael of Buffalo and Emily “Priss” Griffith of Sedelia; two brothers, Bobby Griffith and wife Mary of Boiling Springs and Marion Griffith and wife Judy of Covington, VA; and  two step-daughters, Jill West and husband Karl of Albuquerque, NM and Jodi Clapp and husband Jason of Union. Mr. McGlocklin was also survived by grandchildren, Jake McGlocklin, Jesse Jones, Sara Duncan, Kristen Henderson, Ara Irish and Marissa Tores and he was known as Papa Dan to eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration to his life will be held at a later date in Glade Spring, Virginia.

Bernice Wilson Johnson
Union, SC


Mrs. Bernice Wilson Johnson, age 79, wife of Stanley Dalton Johnson, of 120-A Sardis Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, Marc 29, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 25, 1940 in Blackwater, VA, a daughter of the late Lewis Wilson and Belvie Osborne Wilson.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.      

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Tina Pruitt of the home, Mitzi Caldwell of Union, and Katrina Padgett of Shelby, NC; a sister, Margaret Lenhart of Union; two special grandchildren Miranda and Mindy Pruitt of the home; four additional grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Randy Joe Johnson and two brothers, J.B. Wilson and Albert H. Wilson.

A visitation will be held from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the home.

Shirley Ann McBride Farr
Union, SC


Shirley A. Farr, passed away on March 30, 2020, peacefully at her home at the age of 86 after several years of declining health.  She was previously a resident of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home for 14 months until her family brought her home due to the corona virus outbreak.  Born November 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ray Lemuel McBride and Nannie Mae Greer McBride.

Mrs. Farr was born in Union and was a proud lifelong resident of Union County.  A devout Christian lady who loved the Lord with all her soul, she was a proud member of New Life Baptist Church where she remained active until her declining health.  She was formerly a long time member of Westside Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including the church choir.

Mrs. Farr was a devoted wife and mother.  She was a graduate of Union High School (Class of 1951).  Mrs. Farr worked many years for Mutual Finance Company (later named Blazer Finance) alongside her long-time best friend Mazel Lee Palmer whom she loved very much.  Afterwards, she began a second career at the S.C. Department of Corrections where she served as Executive Assistant to Warden Phoebe Johnson for many years.

Mrs. Farr shared her family’s love for public service and was elected as the first woman ever to serve on Union County Council in 1978.  After serving several terms, she stepped down to devote more time to her new career but continued to participate in numerous community activities because she loved her community and friends.

Surviving are her husband for over 60 years, Donald H. Farr of the home, two daughters, Debra Snider and husband Bill of St. Simons Island, GA, Mitzi Rubright and husband Don of Lincoln, CA, and a son Toney L. Farr, Sr. and wife Gloria of Pea Ridge. A special a sister-in-law, Gloria McBride of Albuquerque, NM.  She had eight grandchildren, Greer Hardin and wife Michelle, Toney L. “Tee” Farr, Jr. and wife Stacy, Hannah Farr Vinson, and husband David, Lennah Farr, Christina Linebarger, Deanna McDade and husband Mike, Lance Gregory and wife Jennifer, and Andrea Eubanks and husband Marty.  Mrs. Farr had nine great-grandchildren (eight boys and one girl) and eight step-great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored.

Mrs. Farr predeceased by three brothers, Everette McBride, Donald McBride, Jimmy McBride, and a sister Carol McBride Willard Sanders.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis, Rev. Shannon Faulkner, and Rev. Dustin Madala.  Due to the current health crisis, the family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Greer Hardin, Tee Farr, Matt Farr, Kevin Farr, Brian Farr, Will Farr, Jackson Farr, and Samuel Farr

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the love and prayers extended to them during her time of declining health.  A special thanks to her daughter-in-law Gloria Farr for her endless devoted love, affection and assistance, Ms. Annie Pearl Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Farr’s personal caretaker, and her nursing home caretakers led by Ms. Vanessa Quinn and Mrs. Blanche Kershaw and many others, too numerous to mention.

Jesse Harold Smith

Mr. Jesse Harold Smith, age 90, of 162 Tom Kelly Circle, Carlisle, widower of Sara Bess McCollum Smith, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Spartanburg Rehabilitation Institute.

Mr. Smith was born in Monarch, February 28, 1930 a son of the late T.D. and Emma Nichols Smith. He was a graduate of Union High School and a retired lifelong electrician. Mr. Smith was a former member of the U.S. Merchant Marines and the S.C. National Guard. He was a long-time member of Carlisle Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Nick Smith and long term partner, Barbie Mitchell of Chapin; two sons, Johnny Smith and wife Becky of Atlanta, GA and Whitney Smith and wife Anita of Carlisle; eight grandchildren, Carol and Wade Ouzts, Katie and Jonathan Crews, Daniel Smith, Drew and Sharmilla Smith, Dee Smith, Zach and Elizabeth Smith, Daisy and Joshua Meador and Hannah Smith and four great-grandchildren: Kinsley and Caplan Crews and Harrison and Sadie Ouzts. Mr. Smith was predeceased by two sisters, Annabel Alverson and Jennie Liner and a brother, DeWitt Smith.

Due to the recent health crisis, graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Mike Scales.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Smith, Whitney Smith, Drew Smith, Zach Smith, Harrison Ouzts and Bim Vaughan.

Tory Michael Maloney

Mr. Tory Michael Maloney, age 48, husband of Marlene Garmley Maloney of 836 Bob Little Rd., Jonesville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, Saturday, March 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.

Mr. Maloney was born in Troy, NY, April 6, 1971 a son of Patricia Cronin Maloney of Rayertown, NY and the late Daniel Maloney.  He was a graduate of Cohoes High School in Cohoes, NY and was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Maloney was employed with JBR Environmental Services in Spartanburg and had operated Maloney Remodeling in Troy, NY prior to moving to South Carolina. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fast cars and his 1983 GMC truck.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Tory M. Maloney, Jr. of Lancingburg, NY; two step-sons, Nicholas Masterson of Pittstown, NY and Mitchell Masterson and wife Betsy of North Adams, MA and he was expecting his first granddaughter in June. He is also survived by a sister, Angela Maloney of Raymertown, NY; a brother, Joseph A. Maloney of Watervliet, NY; a niece, Erica Mazula; a nephew, Joshua Maloney and two special great-nieces, Payton Maloney and Paisley Garmley. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Shirley Garmley of Troy, NY and several other nieces, nephews, in-laws and his two fur babies, Jack and Buddy.

The family wishes to express a special Thank You to the staff and nurses of Kindred Hospice, Spartanburg Regional ICU and Dr. Chittum for their care of Tory during his illness.

A celebration of life services will be scheduled by the family for a later date in South Carolina and also in New York.

Brandi Paige Gilkison

Miss Brandi Paige Gilkison, age 29, of Barnado Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at her home after an extended illness.

Miss Gilkison was born in Spartanburg, August 22, 1990, a daughter of William Nelson Gilkison, Jr. and Sandy McGowan Gilkison of Union. She attended Union Co. Schools and had formerly worked at Belk Distribution in Jonesville. Brandi had also work various jobs with her family. She was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a son, Elijah Talley of the home; her fiancé, Obedi Talley, Jr. of Union; three sisters, her twin sister, Kandi Gilkison of Jonesville, Chasity Gilkison of Union and Destiney Keisler of Florida; two brothers, Matthew Gilkison and Casey Roark both of Union; her paternal grandmother, Ann Gilkison of Union; six nephews, Tyre Tucker, Noah Tucker, Zaylan Tucker, Isaiah Kershaw, Messiah Kershaw and Kori Kershaw and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held from 3:00 PM Monday, March 30, 2020 at Ottaray Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Walter Holcombe.

Barbara Ann Roark

Mrs. Barbara Ann Roark, age 75 of 205 Turning Leaf Circle, Boiling Springs, widow of Stanley E. Roark, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Roark was born in Union, August 28, 1944, a daughter of the late Dillard Duckett and Daisy Millwood Duckett.  She was a graduate of Union High School and Chester School of Nursing.  Mrs. Roark retired from Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as an LPN and had formerly worked at Her Majesty. She attended Oakbrook Community Church.

Surviving are a son, Tommy “Squeaky” Roark and wife Kimberly of Jonesville; two grandchildren, Tiffany Roark Babb and husband David and Michael Palmer Roark; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Rae Babb; and three sisters, Patti Smith of Union, Linda Vaughan of Greensboro, and Peggy Bright of Union.  She was predeceased by a son, Michael David Roark; a brother, Steve Millwood of Flint, MI; and two sisters, Monica Thomas and Deborah Whitlock.

Wendell Dean Lawson

Mr. Wendell Dean “Windy Bill” Lawson, age 81, husband of Mary Blitchington Lawson of 2383 Jonesville Hwy., Union, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Lawson was born in the West Springs community, October 24, 1939, a son of the late Roy “Shug” Lawson and Louise Lawson Carraway. He was reared in the home of his grandmother, Minnie West Lawson and his aunt Mae Ruth Lawson Hyatt. Mr. Lawson was a graduate of Jonesville High School and had retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing. He was member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Mr. Lawson is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Roy D. Lawson.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.

The family understands that his many friends may not be able to attend his funeral service because of all the uncertainty involving the COVID-19 virus. But the family also knows you were there his entire life and when he needed you most. He knew how much you loved him.

The family also wishes the say a special “Thank You” to the staff and nurses of Crescent Hospice for their care and support.

Mrs. Geraldine Smith “Jerry” Hamm, age 85, of 504 Richard St., Union, widow of Gary Hamm, passed away, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Hamm was born in Charlotte, NC, March 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Jack and Estelle Moss Smith. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College. Mrs. Hamm retired in management from Wallace Thomson Hospital and she was a member of the Union Church of Christ.

Surviving are three sons, Scott Hamm and wife Carol with whom she made her home, Steve Hamm and wife Rita of Greensboro, NC and Greg Hamm of Chapin; six grandchildren, Summer Hamby, Dana Newton, Todd Hamm, Katie Holder, Kelly Hamm and Mitch Hamm and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Due to the current health concerns, private graveside services will be held at Union Memorial Gardens.

Linda Smith Thomas

Mrs. Linda Smith Thomas, age 72, wife of Preston Thomas, of 103 Sunset Dr., Union, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Thomas was born March 11, 1948 in Union, a daughter of the late Claude and Annie Belle Palmer Smith and was a graduate of Union High School.  In 1994, Mrs. Thomas founded New Horizon Reality, Thomas & Associates, where she was Broker-in-Charge until her retirement in 2015.  Prior to her career in real estate, she had formerly worked with South Carolina National Bank.  Mrs. Thomas was an active member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she served on the Finance Committee.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Crissy Thomas of Greenville; a sister, Pearl S. Inman of Union; two brothers, Monroe Smith and Kent Smith, both of Union; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Smith of Union and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2020 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mark Truitt and Rev. Scott Cobb.

Joe T.  Haney
Buffalo, S.C.


Mr. Joe Thomas Haney, age 84, husband of Phyllis M. Haney of 1802 Main Street Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 22, 2020 at his home. 

Mr. Haney was born in Buffalo, March 23, 1935, the son of the late Rufus Winfred and Guynella Miller Haney.  For 38 years, he was married to the late Juanita Crisp Haney.  She predeceased him in 1995.   A graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College, he pursued a career in professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians.  Mr. Haney served four years in the United States Air Force.  He was retired from Cone Mill-Carlisle Finishing Plant.  An active member of Buffalo Baptist Church, he was a former Deacon, Sunday School teacher and was recognized as Deacon Emeritus.  For 25 years, he served as treasurer of the church.  Mr. Haney was inducted into the Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  Following his retirement, he especially enjoyed golfing, one of his lifelong passions.

Surviving in addition to Phyllis, his wife of 23 years;  are a daughter Anita Haney Branum and husband, Jim of Moore; two sons,  Joey Haney and wife Pat and Mark Haney and wife Jo Anne all of Buffalo; a step-daughter, Leigh Kingsmore of Buffalo; two step-sons: Victor Kingsmore and wife Mary Elizabeth of Rock Hill; John Kingsmore and wife, Amanda of Union; a special niece, Sherry Crisp Kendrick of Buffalo; and grandchildren: Jesse Haney, Caroline Haney, Holli Reynolds, Heath Branum, Evan Haney, Brannon Treadway, Abigail Kingsmore, Marah Kingsmore, Andrew Treadway, Cayden Kingsmore and Jacob Kingsmore. He was predeceased by a sister, Vera Ray.

Due to the current health crisis, the family will have a private church service Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Doug Estes and Rev. Tim Anderson.  A graveside service extended to family and friends will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be Edward Heatherly, Richard Duncan, Torrance Inman, Stanley Wells, Bruce Betenbaugh and Maxie Lawson.

The celebration of life service that was originally planned for Saturday, March 28, 2020 for Charles R. “Butch” Barber, who passed away March 16, 2020, will be held at a later date due to the current health concerns. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the community for their continued prayers and support during this time.


Jane Hutton Sims Bishop
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Jane Hutton Sims Bishop, 89, wife of Bernard Lamar Bishop of 507 West South Street (corner of Malone Ave.), Union, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mrs. Bishop was born in Union, December 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Thomas Robert and Lillian Lee Malone Sims and the granddaughter of the late Levi Franklin and Sarah Elizabeth Hutton Malone.  She was a 1949 graduate of Union High School and a 1953 graduate of Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Music Degree.  Mrs. Bishop was a third-generation member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity and a former member of the Union Music Club.  She taught piano and voice in her home during the 1950’s and early 1960’s and was also very active in the PTA of her children’s schools.  She later worked with her husband in the family business, Bishop’s TV Service.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 64 years are two sons, Robert Lamar Bishop and wife Marla Jean Hester of Woodstock, GA, and Thomas Earl Bishop of the home and special friend Sally Elaine Summers of Union;  one daughter, Emily Anne Bishop Reinhart of Chapin, SC; four grandchildren, Joshua Lamar Bishop and Laura Louise Bishop of Woodstock, GA, and Nicholas Graham Reinhart and Garrett Malone Reinhart of Chapin, SC;  and lifelong best friend Ruth Ann Cogdell Tucker of Duncan, SC.  Mrs. Bishop was predeceased by an aunt, Mabel Victoria Malone Godshall and a cousin, Ann Elizabeth Godshall Jones.

Due to the recent health crisis, the family will gather for a private graveside service on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2020 in the Sims family plot at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity conducted by the Rev. David Bauknight and the Rev. Sanders Read.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joshua Lamar Bishop, Nicholas Graham Reinhart, Garrett Malone Reinhart, and James Wallace Cheek, II, James Randall Mabry, and Randy Brown.

Friends are welcome to visit the funeral home to sign the register for Mrs. Bishop.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectively requests that memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, P.O. Box 456 or Union Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 951, Union, SC 29379.

Karli Amanda Reynolds

Miss Karli Amanda Reynolds, age 28, of 117 Katelyn’s Way, Buffalo, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at her home.

Karli was born in Union, November 3, 1991, a daughter of Melissa Ann Ramsey (Shane Parks) of the home and the late Mack “Maxie” Reynolds. She was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome but still led a full and happy life. She was a graduate of J.F. Byrnes High School and a member of Care Baptist Church in Fairmont.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a sister, Anna Reynolds and fiancée Conley Holmes of Spartanburg; two nieces, Avery and Collins Holmes and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Karli was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Thurmond E. “Shorty” and Ruth Johnson Ramsey and her paternal grandparents, Ronnie Mack and Sylvia “Peepsy” Reynolds.

Due to the current health concerns and the safety of our community, a private service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at New Hope Baptist church conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens where the family will receive friends.

Mrs. Brenda Kay Burnett Hawkins, age 65, of 305 3rd. St., Union, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Union, June 7, 1954, a daughter of the late Franklin “Bunt” Burnett, Sr. and Dolly Blanton Burnett. She was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Technical College. She was formerly employed with Wallace Thomson Hospital and Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Angela Vaughan; a son, Chad Lawter both of Union; two granddaughters, Tabitha Vaughan and Ariel Vaughan and a great-granddaughter, Harmony Jeter. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a great-grandson, Hayden Jeter, a sister, Patricia Jennings and two brothers, Johnny Burnett and Franklin Burnett, Jr.

Due to the current health concerns and for the safety of our community, the family has chosen to have private funeral services at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints conducted by Jonathan Parris. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Thursday and Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Angela Vaughan, 308 Hicks St., Union.

Holly Latrelle Lawson, age 41, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at Stonegate Hospice in Fort Worth, TX.

Holly was born in Union, November 8, 1978 a daughter of Stanley “Bud” Lawson and Joan Voiselle Lawson of Buffalo.  She was a 1997 graduate of Union High School.  Holly attended North Greenville University and earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas in Arlington, along with her teaching certificate.  Holly taught Kindergarten in Texas from 2012 until her diagnosis of Cervical Cancer.  Currently she worked with Cervivor, traveling as an ambassador and lobbying in Washington for Cervical Cancer Awareness.  While in college Holly worked with the Children’s Ministry at Mission Arlington.  She was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Beth Maxwell and husband Eric, and their children, Maci and Chloe of Cupertino, CA; an aunt, Jill Brown and husband Troy of Buffalo; two cousins, Jay Voiselle and wife Renarda and Suzy Garner and husband Michael all of Union; her best friend, Jill Bishop Edwards of Greenville; and a special friend, Claude Swain of Texas.

Holly’s wishes were that her body be donated to the Medical University of Texas for Cancer Research.  A celebration of life service will be held at Buffalo Baptist Church at a later date.

Mr. James Glenn “Jimmy” Millwood, age 55, husband of Peggy Whaley Millwood of 144 April Rd., Pacolet, passed away Monday, March 13, 2020 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.

Mr. Millwood was born June 3, 1964, a son of the late James E. and Shirley Spencer Millwood. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was employed with Koehler Co. in Spartanburg.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jamie Millwood and husband Shannon of Gaffney; a son, Michael Millwood of Pacolet; a step-daughter, Mary Jane Kirby of Pacolet; a sister, Kathy Byrd and a brother, Larry Millwood both of Pacolet; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2020 at New Beginnings Christian Church, 480 Sunny Acres Rd., Pacolet, conducted by Rev. Lisa Parfitt.

Mr. Charles L. “Butch” Barber, age 79, husband of Bobbie Trantham Barber of 531 Summit Dr., Lockhart, passed away March 16, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Barber was born in Union, October 26, 1940 a son of the late B.W. Barber and Effie Lee Charles Barber. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Torrington Co., and the S.C. Dept of Corrections. Mr. Barber had also worked at the Union Co. Court House as a bailiff. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed dearly.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years, Bobbie, are two sons, Paul Barber and Chuck Barber both of Union; two grandsons, Drew and Zack Manibusan; four sisters, Donna Kitchens, Trudy Billings, Linda Ward and husband Bobby all of Union and Debra Beck of Conway; two brothers, David Barber of Union and Bruce Barber of Conway; and a son-in-law, Tommy Manibusan of Spartanburg. Mr. Barber was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Manibusan and three sisters, Peggy Davis, Ann Hulon and Sylvia Lawson.

The family wishes to express at special thank you to the staff and nurses of Spartanburg Regional Hospice and Dr. Steven Corso’s office along with Cheryl Webb and Rachel Dean for their care and concern for Mr. Barber during his illness.

Mr. Robert W. “Bobby” Sanders, Jr., age 78, husband of Adelaide Garner Sanders of 1448 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Sanders was born in Union, December 22, 1941, a son of the late Wylie and Ruby Garner Sanders. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing after 30 years. Mr. Sanders attended Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Michelle Stepp and husband Coby of Union and Cindi Sanders and husband Mark Garner of Jonesville; a son, Robert Joseph Sanders and wife Angel of Union; a sister, Mary Wade and husband Jack of Union; a brother, Wayne Sanders of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Amber Stepp, R.J. Sanders, Jason Sanders, Michael Garner and Ryan Garner and two great-grandchildren, Joslynn Stepp and Dawson Diaz. Mr. Sanders was predeceased by a sister, Betty McFadden.

Mrs. Eleanor Jean Carter, age 74, wife of Robert W. Carter of 2649 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Carter was born in Union, April 11, 1945, a daughter of the late Evelyn Wilson Brank. Mrs. Carter was raised by her mother in the home of her late maternal grandparents Thomas Adam Wilson and Mamie Wilson. She was a 1963 graduate of Lockhart High School and had worked several places in Union including, Quincy’s Steak House, Andy’s of Buffalo and Smith’s Jewelers. Mrs. Carter was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult II Sunday School class. She had taught Mission Friends, served on the Bereavement Committee and volunteer with Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Carter was also an avid Elvis Presley fan.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Robin C. Black and husband Kevin of Fredericksburg, VA, and Heather C. Colson and husband Jason of Union; a son, Todd Carter of Union; a step-brother, David Fletcher of Dayton, OH; four grandchildren, Robert J. Black and wife Katie, Jessica Black and fiancée Roman, Jacob Colson and Ashley Colson and two great-grandchildren, Daniel Herrera and Emily Black. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by two step-brothers, Jimmy Fletcher and Danny Fletcher.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Lockhart First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Betty Frances Harris Senn, age 92, widow of William Senn formerly of Whitmire, passed away Thursday March 12, 2020 at Langston Place in Clinton.

Mrs. Senn was born in Santuc, July 20, 1927 a daughter of the late Louise Harris. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired as an LPN at Whitten Center in Clinton. Mrs. Senn was a member of Whitmire Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Harold Senn and wife Jackie of Manning and Craig Senn and wife Robin of Clinton; a sister, Doris Sexton and a nephew Nick Sexton both of Augusta, GA; five grandchildren, Holly Lucius, J.J. Senn, Jessi Stormer, Stevie English and Kyle Senn; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Kenny Weaver.

Mr. Gregory was born in Jacksonville, FL February 3, 1953, a son of the late OvaDean Gregory and Nada Bodenhamer Gregory. He was a 1971 graduate of Union High School and retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant. Mr. Gregory attended Philippi Baptist Church when his health permitted.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jennifer Sanders of Union; two sons: Brian Gregory and wife Sara Marie and Jonathan Gregory and wife Lesley all of Union; a brother, Jerry Dean Gregory and wife Sharon of Fayetteville, NC; four grandchildren: Michael Robinson, Cayla Gregory, Hannah Gregory and Peyton Gregory. Mr. Gregory was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Gregory Lee.

Mr. Ira Benjamin “Binky” Mills, age 81, widower of Hazel Walton Mills, of 214 Williford Rd., Union passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Mills was born in Conway, January 10, 1939, a son of the late Jack and Edna Marlow Mills. He was retired from Milliken and Co. and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Marlene Mayfield of Spartanburg and Donna Floyd of Union; two sons, Dennis Nix and wife Tina and Rickey Mills all of Union; two brothers, Leonard “L.W.” Mills and wife Virginia of Elko and David Mills and wife Betsey of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Nikki Mills, Taylor Mills, Pamela Floyd, Benji Nix and wife Coleen; great-grandchildren: Chelsey Nix, Autumn Nix, Collin Mills, Ariel Mills and one great-grandson Blaine Floyd reared in the home. He is also survived by his beloved pet dog of 17 years, Craig Mills. Mr. Mills was predeceased by sisters, Cleopa Glasgow and Annette Mills and brothers, Robert Mills and Jerry Mills.

The family would like to thank the staff Hospice Care of S.C. including Ann, Charlene, Joel, Lisa, Chad, the staff of SRHS and Home Care Services, Nicki Ivey, Darlene Howell and Bobby Butt for their care of Mr. Mills during his illness. Also, a special thank you to his caregivers, Sherry Woody, Vicki Hyder and Katilyn Brown.

Mr. Eubanks was born in Union, July 10, 1971, a son of the late Terry LaGrange Eubanks and Jennifer Brown Eubanks. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the former Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Holly Gail Anderson Eubanks; a daughter, Courtney Smith of Greenville; son, Walt Eugene Eubanks of Union; two sisters, Tanaya Murphy and husband James of Union and Jacquelin Kirby of Spartanburg and number of nieces and nephews: Rebecca Murphy, Jessica Kirby, Thomas LaGrange Murphy, Kailee Bishop, Trey Bishop, Jetta Mosley and Coley Mosley and a special cousin, Stephen “Bubba” Eubanks. Mr. Eubanks was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Kirby.

Mrs. Jennifer Brown Eubanks, age 72, widow of Terry LaGrange Eubanks, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Eubanks was born in Georgia, May 15, 1947. She was retired from Her Majesty in Union and was a member of the former Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Tanaya Murphy and husband James of Union and Jacqueline Kirby of Spartanburg; grandchildren: Jessica Kirby Bishop and husband Ronald, Courtney Smith, Jonathan Kirby, Rebecca Murphy, Walt Eubanks, Thomas LaGrange Murphy, Kailee Bishop and Trey Bishop and two great-grandchildren: Jetta Mosley and Coley Mosley. Mrs. Eubanks was predeceased by a son, Terry Eugene Eubanks who passed away on March 7, 2020 in California.

Mr. Mickey M. Gowan, age 84, formerly of West Springs, widower of Gloria Rogers Gowan, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Gowan was born in Union, November 8, 1935, a son of the late William and Kathlee Lancaster Gowan. He was retired from Torrington Co. after 20 years and had previously been employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing. Mr. Gowan was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann Belk and husband Dr. Clinton Belk of Cape Coral, FL and Sheila Gowan of Buffalo; two sisters, Jonell West of Glenn Springs and Gwendolyn Harvey and husband Marvin of Spartanburg and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gowan was predeceased by two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Don Alexander and Rev. Miriam Mick. Burial will following in the church cemetery.

Mr. Fredrick Earl “Fred” Parks, age 81, widower of Mildred Bragg Parks formerly of Millen, GA, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

Mr. Parks was born in Union, May 8, 1938, a son of the late Harold and Edna Chalk Parks. He was retired from the Georgia Dept. of Transportation after 46 years and was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Parks was an avid hunter and fisherman who also loved to meet people.

Surviving are a sister, Jo Wood of Union; a brother with whom he made his home, Mike A. Parks and wife Sara Jane; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Christy and Warren “Spike” Stafford of Sylvania, GA; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Billy Fowler of Union and special great-nephew and niece, Jacob Parks and Neely Parks. Mr. Parks was predeceased by three sisters, Joyce Parks, Juanita White and Brenda Ochiltree and a sister-in-law, Jean Crockett.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening March 6, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sharon Anne Feaster-Lewis, age 73, widow of John E. Lewis Sr., entered into eternal rest on March 3, 2020. She was a native of Union and had formerly lived in Goose Creek, SC prior to moving to Heritage at Lowman in Columbia.

Mrs. Feaster-Lewis was born on November 29, 1946, a daughter of the late William Rice Feaster, Sr. a native of Union and the late Dorothy Stewart Feaster a native of Kilgore, TX. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Ailiene Feaster of Columbia, SC and Clara Frances “Frannie” Feaster of Union, SC, and a brother, William Rice “Bill” Feaster, Jr. of Union. Sharon is also survived by two aunts, Mrs. Mulloy Christopher of Goose Creek, SC and Mrs. Maxine Spinks of Kilgore, TX.

Sharon was married to John Earle Lewis, Sr. of North Charleston, SC, on June 2, 2007. She is survived by a step-son, John Earle Lewis, Jr. and his wife Valerie. John and Sharon have four grandchildren, Brandon, Gary, Jessica and Colby. Sharon enjoyed writing stories and articles, and published several books, including The Cat Who Companion… and D is for Differences, a children’s book.

Sharon received a Bachelor Degree with emphasis in English and Writing from Furman University. She also received a PhD degree from the University of North Texas. Sharon taught graduate courses in education until her retirement in February 2012. She attended Friendship
Baptist Church in North Charleston where she frequently played the piano for the Wednesday night group singing.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 6, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robbie Stollger. Burial will be in the Feaster family plot at Rosemont Cemetery.

Funeral Services for Austin Trevor Hathcock, 30, who entered into rest March 2, 2020, will be conducted Friday morning at 11 o’clock from Matlock Baptist Church. Rev. Dale Reeves, Dr. Mark Riser and Pastor Northern Dunbar officiating. Interment in Jackson Memorial Park.

Austin was a life-long resident of Jackson. He was a member of Matlock Baptist Church, a 2007 graduate of Silver Bluff High School and attended the University of South Carolina at Union. Austin was a construction worker who enjoyed his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Hathcock.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Lynda Edwards, Jackson; two brothers, Alex (Kayla) Edwards, North Augusta and Adam Edwards and his fiancée, Carol Hales, Jackson; two sisters, Morgan Hathcock and Ann Jordan Hathcock both of Lawrenceville, GA; grandmother, Barbara Ussery, Jackson; stepmother, Marsha Jordan, Union, SC.

Charles “Ronny” Penland

Mr. Charles “Ronny” Penland, age 74, husband of Teresa Henderson Penland of 287 Airport Rd., Union, passed away, Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Penland was born August 26, 1945 in Laurens, a son of the late Charlie Penland and Lura Prather Penland. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts and had attended Limestone College.  Mr. Penland was retired from Duke Energy at the Catawba Nuclear Station.  He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served from 1963-1966.  Mr. Penland was a charter member of New Life Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and served on several church committees.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three brothers, Ryan Penland of Simpsonville, David Penland and wife Anne of Hickory, NC, and Glenn Penland of Simpsonville; a brother-in-law, Mike Henderson of Union; a sister-in-law, Pam Elliott and husband Stanley of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mary Ball Prather who was an important influence in his life.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 6, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Todd Davis, and Rev. Ron Culbertson.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. William Earl Sprouse, age 69, of Harris Dr., Union, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020.

Mr. Sprouse was born in Union, October 16, 1950, a son of the late Mary Crocker Arthur and husband Bill and the late Henry Earl Sprouse and wife Sara. He was a 1968 graduate of Union High School and had been employed with the Union Co. YMCA for the past 25 years. Mr. Sprouse had also worked with the state and county government and also worked in real estate. He remained an active supporter of Union High School and the Booster Club. He was a member and volunteer with the Union Co. Historical Society, a member of the Civitan Club and was a Mason. He was an avid Gamecock Fan and member of the Union Co. Gamecock Club.

An active member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church, he was a member of the choir and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. William Earl enjoyed traveling and spending time with his many friends. He leaves behind a community who will miss his generous smile and sharp wit.

Surviving are a number of cousins including, Jan Brannon and husband Keith of Greenville, James Crocker Jr. and wife Nancy of Spartanburg and Harold Crocker, Jr. and wife Diane of New York.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Benny Green. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the services.
