Mr. Cody A. Newton, age 28, of 271 Meansville Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Newton was born in Union, SC on June 13, 1987 a son of Joe Edward Newton, Jr. and Sharon Wallace Newton. Cody enjoyed playing the guitar and entertaining by singing, dancing and acting. He was an avid Carolina Panthers fan and Clemson fan.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, McKenzie Lynne Flowers of Union; his fiancée, Erin Henderson of the home, a brother, Joe Edward (Trey) Newton, III and wife Amanda of Union; paternal grandmother, Joyce W. Newton of Buffalo; maternal grandmother, Margaret Wallace of Buffalo; two aunts, Beth Newton Henderson and husband Kevin of Union and Lisa Wallace of St. Petersburg, FL; two uncles, William Wallace of Union and Don Nivens of Easley; one niece, Delaney Newton; one nephew, Buddy Newton; and two beloved dogs, Buster and Wyatt. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Joe Edward Newton, Sr. and an aunt, Teresa Ann Newton.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Mann and his brother, Trey Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Trey Newton, William Wallace, Cory West, Jake West, Don Nivens and Tyler Lancaster.

Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Farrah Marie Wyatt

Farrah Marie Wyatt, age 28, of Spartanburg passed away on March 26, 2016. Farrah was the daughter of Rick and Becky Wyatt of Spartanburg. She is survived by her two wonderful daughters, Alexis and Brooklyn; a brother, Tyler Wyatt and a sister, Lauren Wyatt of the home. She was the granddaughter of Carol Faucett and the late James Faucett of Union, and the late Patty Wysor of Bristol, VA.

A private family services will be held at Central United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Morrell and Rev. Karen Jones.

A visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 30, 2016 also at the church.

David Harold Cookson

Mr. David Harold “Bud” Cookson, age 81, husband of Carol Lawson Cookson, of 529 Lakeview Heights.,  Union, went to be with the Lord,  Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Cookson was born in Lockhart, SC., December 26, 1934, a son of the late Frank Cookson and Hazel Davis Cookson. He was an active member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and many other capacities. Mr. Cookson worked for Milliken and Company for a total of 52 years, starting with the Lockhart Plant until it closed, then transferred to Monarch Plant.

Mr. Cookson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years are a daughter, Reneé C. Nicholson and husband Mark and a granddaughter Heather Reneé Nicholson all of Union. He was predeceased by 7 sisters, Ruth Deal, Hazel Fowler, Faye Miller, Irene Rash, Betty Tice, Lavada Gaston and Gayle Turner; 2 brothers, Talmadge Deal and James Deal.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge, Rev. Benny Green and Chaplain Richard Brown. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Johnson, Tommy Calhoun, James Lawson, Marshall Bobo, Bruce Miller, Denver Candler, Bob Wilkins and Brian Fowler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Shirley Sunday School Class, Medi Home Hospice, Dr. Keith, Stephanie Edwards, Brock Dillard, Leroy Worthy and Jeff Littlejohn.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lila Faye Shetley Price, age 89, widow of Willie Wesley Price, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Union Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Price was born in Union, July 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Marvin Luther Shetley and Ollie Mae Crocker Shetley.  She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Faye Scott of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons, David A. Smith and wife Sandra of Union and Roger L. Smith and wife Jean of New Port Richie, Florida; four grandchildren, a nephew, Edward Fallen of Whitmire; 3 step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Price was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Shetley, and grandson, Chris Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be J.W. Crocker, Billy Gonce, Edward Fallen, Donald Crocker, Scott Pettit and Aaron Smith.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Zora Johnson Vinson

Mrs. Zora Johnson Vinson, age 89, of 1817 Jonesville Hwy., Union, widow of Thomas Vinson passed away, Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Union, May 29, 1926 a daughter of the late Thomas Johnson and Louella Robinson Johnson.  She was a homemaker and a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.  Mrs. Vinson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are three sons, Harold Dean Vinson of Spartanburg, James Vinson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Hoyle Vinson of Hobbsville, NC; one granddaughter, Laryssa Bryant of Mt. Holly, NC; one grandson, Rev. Hoyle “Kip” Vinson of Hobbsville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Lee.  Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Connie B. Burgess

Mrs. Connie Jean Boulware Burgess, age 64, wife of Rev. Johnny Burgess of 101 Mill St., Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord, March 22, 2016.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Union, October 1, 1951, a daughter of the late Lewis Eugene Boulware and Betty Jean Roberts Boulware.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from the City of Union, Building and Zoning Department.  Mrs. Burgess was formerly employed with Timken Co.

She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, serving alongside her husband in his ministry. Mrs. Burgess was a member of the Adult Sunday School class, the Women’s Auxiliary and was a member of the choir. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Jeannie Brewington and husband Michael Wayne and Melissa Newton all of Buffalo; April Goins and husband Larry Goins, II of Ft. Riley, KS, and Tiffany Iovane and husband Danny of Union; two brothers, Lewis S. Boulware and wife Cheryl, and Donald E. Boulware and wife Patsy all of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, Michael Blake Brewington, Cameron Newton, Nina Newton, Tripp Goins, Kaylyn Goins, Jase Goins and Noah Iovane.  Mrs. Burgess is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Mr. Arley Eller and Mr. Jackie Phipps. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Andy Eller, Wayne Griffith, David Lee, Roger Dale Turner, Roy Turner and Danny Jones.

Members of the Adult Sunday School class and the Ladies Auxiliary of the church, along with co-worker of the City of Union are asked to serve as the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Gloria J. ‘Dodie’ Smith
Buffalo, S.C.


Miss Gloria J. “Dodie” Smith, age 55 of 548 Sugar Creek Rd., Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord, Monday March 21, 2016.

Miss Dodie was born in Union, July 4, 1960, a daughter of the late Hollis A. Smith and Belva Messer Smith.  Dodie attended Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she received and gave more than her share of hugs, and sang as loud as she could for the Lord.  She was a member of the Buffalo Senior Citizen’s Center where she had a job to do assisting her caring friends. She enjoyed making greeting cards, singing, coloring, shopping, playing Scrabble and just being the blessing that she was.  Dodie was a huge fan of Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Walker Texas Ranger, and the Andy Griffith Show.  Miss Dodie loved everybody and everybody loved her. Heaven has reclaimed a special Angel.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. David Keith and Medi Home Hospice for their tender care given to Dodie during her time of need. Also a special thank you is extended to her family at the Buffalo Senior Citizen’s Center for the love and care shown to her throughout the years. She loved you all very much and you will never know what a blessing you were to her, as well as to her family.

Surviving are a sister who was her caregiver, Ruth Hancock of the home; two brothers, Ralph Smith and wife Barbara and Leon Smith and wife Dale all of Buffalo; three nieces, Debbie Crawford and husband Donnie and Cathy Poole and husband James all of Buffalo, and Susie Smith of Union; four nephews, Michael Smith and wife Donna, Chris Smith, and Kevin Smith and wife Anitra all of Buffalo, and Sammy Smith and wife Rhonda of Union. Dodie is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Sam Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Guy Langston.  Burial will be at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Phillip Smith, David Wilson, Chris Smith, Kevin Smith and Sammy Smith.

Martha K. Chamberlin

Mrs. Martha Kerstetter Chamberlin, age 88 of Gibert St. Union, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Chamberlin was born in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, April 18, 1927, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Grove Kerstetter. She was retired from Her Majesty in Union and was predeceased by her longtime companion, Delmar L. Kinney.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Powell of Tennessee; a son, Thomas Chamberlin and wife Cathy of Pennsylvania; a brother, Dean Kerstetter and wife Jean also of Pennsylvania; special friends, Sidney and Jerri Palmer of Jonesville and three grandchildren.  Mrs. Chamberlin was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Linda Chamberlin.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke.

Visitation will be held at the graveside from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the services.

Mr. Wilhelm Baldor, age 88, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Baldor was born in John’s Island, SC, August 13, 1927, a son of the late William Carlisle Bolt and Margaret Angel Bolt. He was a high school graduate and a veteran of the US Navy.

Mr. Baldor is survived by two dear friends, Linda Jones and Charles Bailey of Union.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Chaplain Andrew Fischer.


Mable R. Eaves

Mrs. Mable Redmon Eaves, age 81, wife of Oliver T. Eaves of 174 Ellis St., Union, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Eaves was born in Jonesville, June 9, 1934, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Hoglon Eaves. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken and Co., Rosemont Plant.

Mrs. Eaves was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the WMU of the church. Mrs. Eaves was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Robin E. Austin of the home; a granddaughter, Keena Austin Fowler; two great-grandsons, Richard Chase Fowler and Oliver Wyatt Fowler all of Union; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Bob Cato.

Visitation will be held at the graveside following the services.

Mrs. Virginia Billings Harmon, age 90, widow of Augustus Hugh Harmon, Jr., passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Harmon was born in Spartanburg Co., May 19, 1925, a daughter of the late Howard and Martha Johnson Billings. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College. Mrs. Harmon retired as Office Manager at the doctor’s office of Drs. Hope, Hames and Keith. She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where she had served on the church board and was a member of the Pat Flood Circle of the church. 

Surviving are a daughter, Donna H. Frye and husband, Douglas of Charlotte, NC; four sisters, Judy B. Cathcart of Buffalo, Leoma B. White and Ila B. Lawson both of Spartanburg, and Lucille B. Cooper of Barnwell, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Harmon was predeceased by a brother, Carrol Billings.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Towery.  Burial will be at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jonesville.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Cathcart, Chris Vaughn, Clifton James, Clayton James, Brad Hendrix and Russ Sanders. Members of the Pat Flood Circle are asked to sit in a group.

Ms. Jeanette Glance Johnson, age 75 of 8889 Lockhart Hwy, Sharon, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Ms. Johnson was born in Lockhart, SC November 30, 1940, a daughter of the late John Robert Glance and Sula Farr Glance. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and later earned her nursing certificate. Ms. Johnson retired as a CNA with Wallace Thomson Hospital following thirty years of service. She was a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet Johnson Andrews; a son, Darrell “Tank” Johnson; a granddaughter, Brittany Andrews; a grandson, Dallas Hall; one great-grandchildren, Skylar Friend all of the home: two sisters, Yolette Kington and Agnes Wood both of Greensboro, NC and her beloved pet dog, Heidi. Ms. Johnson was predeceased by three sisters, Evelyn Starnes, Elsie Ward and Polly Slagle and a brother, Charles Glance.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Lockhart Cemetery conducted by Rev. Craig Marshall.

Mr. Steve Edward Messer age 61, of 1732 West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Union Medical Center. Mr. Messer was previously married to Kathy Baker.

Mr. Messer was born June 12, 1954, a son of the late William Crawford Messer and Nathlee Waldrop Messer. He retired from Milliken & Company following thirty-eight years of service. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Jason Messer; a grandson, Steven Messer both of Riverside, CA; two sisters: Kathy Bledsoe and husband Clifford of Gaffney and Wanda Jones and husband Danny of Hendersonville, NC; two brothers: John Messer and wife Regina of Jonesville and William Messer and wife Thersa of Hildebran, NC.

Memorial services will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, March 17, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Visitation will be held in the chapel following the service.

Jimmy Lee Eubanks, II

Mr. Jimmy Lee Eubanks, II, age 34 of 155 Chance Lane, Blackstock, SC passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center.

Mr. Eubanks was born June 19, 1981, a son of the late Jimmy Lee Eubanks and Elaine Leitner Eubanks. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and York Technical College.

Mr. Eubanks was a construction worker.

Surviving are a son, Alexander Oakley of Richburg; a sister, April Eubanks; fiancé Tabitha McMurray both of Blackstock; a step-sister, Whitney Locklier of Rock Hill; a grandmother, Dolly Bailey Leitner of Blackstock and a cousin, Pete Eubanks of Plaino, TX. Mr. Eubanks was predeceased by his grandfather, Dozier Smith Leitner and an uncle, Dennis Eubanks.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Sallie Frances Belk

Mrs. Sallie Frances “Fran” Belk, age 86 of 211 Woodhaven Drive, Union, widow of Herman Clark Belk, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 14, 2016 at her home.  

Mrs. Belk was born in Union, March 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Russell Sage Gibson and Sallie Frances Childers Gibson. She attended Lockhart Schools and had previously worked for Milliken & Company, Cone Mills and also Oakmont of Union. Mrs. Belk was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a member of the Keenager Group, the Bereavement Committee and the Tomi Vaughn Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Lottie Moon Circle and the Widow’s Group. Mrs. Belk was a member of the choir for many years. She had a beautiful voice and loved Gospel music.

Mrs. Belk was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was also a wonderful cook and loved to cook for her family. Mrs. Belk was also an avid sports fan as a participant and a spectator of golf, baseball and bowling.

Surviving are a son, Dennis Clark Belk; a brother, Bill Dean Gibson; three grandchildren: Wesley Clark Belk, Kyley Bell and husband Jeffrey, and Kota Belk; a great-granddaughter, Avery Klarke Bell; a special daughter-in-law, Deb Belk and two adopted granddaughters, Kimberley and Kelley Strong and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Belk was predeceased by her siblings: Carl Gibson, Edward Gibson, Jim Gibson, Buck Gibson, Glenn Gibson, David Gibson, Nella Mae Dabbs, and Alpha Woods.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the graveside services.

Ms. Janie Mae Dove Mobley, age 91 of 610 S. Pinckney Street, Union, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Regional Hospice House.

Ms. Mobley was born in Fairfield, SC June 5, 1924, a daughter of the late Robert R. Dove and Fannie Ghantt Dove and Della Ghantt Dove.

Surviving are five daughters: Nancy K. Yarborough of Chester, Ruby Moore of Union, Judy Mobley of Louisiana, Debbie Eades and Jane Mobley both of Union; a son, Keith Mobley and wife Tracy of Chester; three sisters: Lucille Sinclair, Frances Dove and Mary Ellen Love and husband Paul all of Chester; a brother, Bob Dove of Chester; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Mobley was predeceased by a son, Edward Wayne Moley; two sisters, Betty Dove and Nancy Dove; two brothers, William Dove and John Dove and a great-grandson, Bryton Mobley.

Memorial services will be held 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church conducted by Patricia Johnson.

Visitation will be held in the church following the service.

William “Bill” Howell

Mr. William Henry “Bill” Howell, age 85 of 711 Pea Ridge Hwy, Jonesville, widower of Rubye Gist Howell, passed away at his home Saturday, March 12, 2016.

Mr. Howell was born in Union, SC June 20, 1930, a son of the late Samuel Claude Howell and Avie Vaughan Howell. He was a retired textile worker and a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Howell was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club, a former Trustee and helped with the Sunday Meals.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Upton and husband Marshall of Jonesville; a son, Gerald Howell and wife Angie of Santuc; a step-son, Floyd “Stump” Heatherly and wife Linda of Jonesville; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Howell was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Franklin and a son, Ricky Howell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors.

Daisy M. Gregory

Mrs. Daisy M. Gregory, age 92, wife of Ralph Gregory of 143 Toney Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Gregory was born in North Carolina September 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Paul Vernon Murphy and Ida Elizabeth Rogers Murphy. She retired from Milliken & Company-Monarch Plant and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters: Brenda Little and husband Roy of Jonesville, Judy Griffin and Sara Smith and husband Lecil; a son, Randall Gregory and wife Darlene all of Union; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by a daughter, Libby Davis. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Stanley Tipton. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chad Cameron, Jason Cameron and Michael Smith.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Robert Earl Harvey

Mr. Robert Earl Harvey of Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Mr. Harvey is survived by his daughter, Ashley M. Newton and her wife Rikki, and his granddaughter, Morgaine Newton. He is also survived by his mother, Janice Carter and step-father, Bobby Carter. Mr. Harvey leaves behind many special relationships with family and friends, but he had a very special relationship with his Aunt Frances Nix and his nephew, Jared Harvey and niece Brooke Harvey.

He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Wayne Harvey, his maternal grandmother, Elsie S. Barnes, his paternal grandmother, Merle G. Harvey and his father Earl Harvey.

Robbie was a kind hearted and gentle man who enjoyed fishing and working on cars. He loved his family and was always there for the people in his life. His presence will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 4:00 Friday at the funeral home prior to the services.

The family will be at the home, 2177 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo.

Mrs. Martha Kerstetter Chamberlin, age 88 of Gibert St. Union, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Chamberlin was born in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, April 18, 1927, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Grove Kerstetter. She was retired from Her Majesty in Union and was predeceased by her longtime companion, Delmar L. Kinney.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Powell of Tennessee; a son, Thomas Chamberlin and wife Cathy of Pennsylvania; a brother, Dean Kerstetter and wife Jean also of Pennsylvania; special friends, Sidney and Jerri Palmer of Jonesville and three grandchildren.  Mrs. Chamberlin was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Linda Chamberlin.

Harold L. Vaughan

Mr. Harold Loyd Vaughan, age 81, husband of Corrie Brewington Vaughan of Buffalo, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Vaughan was born in Lockhart, August 6, 1934, a son of the late Robert and Lomie Vaughan. He was retired from the maintenance department at Wallace Thompson Hospital and had also worked part-time at Ben’s Paint Store.  Mr. Vaughan was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Pam Faucett and husband Tracey, Gail Hyatt and Polly Champion all of Union, Tammy Riley and husband Mike of Jonesville and Mary Rawl of Buffalo; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mr. Vaughan was predeceased by a son, Clarence Champion.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Greg Black and Rev. Henry Johnson.

Visitation will be held in the Church Fellowship Center immediately following the services.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home for their care and compassion to Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan

Mr. Joseph Harrison “Joe” Greene, age 64 of Boiling Springs, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. Greene was born in Spartanburg, December 9, 1951 a son of the late Ralph L. and Catherine Harrison Greene.  He was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and received his Bachelor Degree from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Greene was employed as an engineer with the Cherokee Springs Fire Dept. where he also volunteered since 1974 and was a member of the S.C. Fire Fighter’s Association. He was formerly employed with American Fast Print. Mr. Greene grew up in the Presbyterian Church but more recently followed his son’s ministry in the Methodist faith.

Surviving are a son, Rev. J. Christopher Greene of Columbia; a dear friend, Doris Y. Greene of Spartanburg; two nieces, Meredith Curtis and Melanie Greene Edwards and husband Michael all of Spartanburg; a nephew, Matthew C. Greene and wife Kelly of Clemson and numerous cousins.  Mr. Greene was predeceased by a brother, Michael Greene.

A memorial service with Full Firefighter’s Honors will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2016 at New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Boiling Springs conducted by Rev. Terry Fleming and Rev. J. Christopher Greene.

Visitation will be held from Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mr. Jeffery Preston Fleming, age 52, of 1292 Old Canaan Rd., Spartanburg, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016.

Mr. Fleming was born in Union, SC on October 19, 1963 a son of Arthur Fleming and Mary Ann Fleming.  He was a graduate of Dorman High School and was a Truck Driver.  Mr. Fleming was of the Baptist Faith.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a son, Jeffery Scott Fleming of North Carolina; one sister, Lisa Pettigrew of Spartanburg; one brother, James Fleming of Spartanburg; and one grandchild, Jackson David Fleming of Spartanburg.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. John Osborne.

Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Scott Fleming, Roy Knox, Chris Ingle, Jonathan Knox, Jamie Matthews, Brian Knox, and Tony Curtis.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Ada H. Adams
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Ada Harris Adams, age 97 of 273 Dave Adams Rd., Union, widow of David T. Adams, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Adams was born in Union, July 21, 1918, a daughter of the late James Wallace Harris and Nannie Gault Harris.  She was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and retired as Cafeteria Manager for the Union Co. School District.  Mrs. Adams was the oldest living member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she previously received the “Mother of the Year” award.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean Wright and husband Brent of Union and Shirley Hooper of Simpsonville; two sons, Ted Adams and friend Debbie and Charles Adams and friend Tamison all of Union; a sister, Dorothy Morris also of Union; a special daughter-in-law, Glenda Adams of Jonesville; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Adams was predeceased by a son, Donald Adams, five brothers, three sisters and a nephew reared in the home, Harold Gene Wix.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Adams’ grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort: Buddy Alman, Wayne Garner, James Harris, Randy Howell, Buddy Harris, Wallace Harris, Wayne Harris, Tony Harris, Kenneth Sanders, Tim Gregory, Mike Howell, Terry Harris, James Adams, Joyce Gault, Patricia A.
