Estelle Bullington Chastain
Union, SC


Estelle Bullington Chastain, age 82, widow of Arlin J. Chastain went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2015. A native of Union, she was the daughter of the late Willie Mae Phillips Bullington and Claude H. Bullington, Sr.

Mrs. Chastain was a faithful member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church until her health declined.  She was retired from Oakmont Nursing Home.  She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved her God, her church and her family.  She loved to share the love of Christ with others.  Her mission work was service to others in need. She always had a smile for everyone and had a gift for making others feel special.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne Chastain, Michael Chastain and wife Linda of Union, two daughters, Patricia Chastain Culbreth and husband Phillip of Tryon, N.C., and Kathy Chastain Gregory and husband Roger of Union.  Also are eight grandchildren, Joey Chastain of Union, Julie Gregory Conard of Union, Christy Hendricks of Hendersonville, Ryan Sumner of Chesnee, Nicole Wall of Landrum, Lee Chastain of Spartanburg, Jennifer Chastain Warchol of Aiken, and Betsy Chastain of Knoxville, TN.   Also are ten great-grandchildren, Dalton, Jameson, Tyler, Drew, Jonathan, Olivia, Madyson, Savannah, Lucas and Blake. She is also survived by a “sister” Betty Bullington of Greenville.  She was predeceased by one granddaughter, Cynthia Chastain, two brothers, William and “Jr.” Bullington, and two sisters Louise Bullington Helms, and Ruth Bullington Toney.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Gaddy and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Dalton Hendricks, Lee Chastain, Jameson Chastain, Ryan Sumner, Jimmy Chastain, and Harold Lawson.  

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Louie J. DeHart, Jr.
Lexington, SC


Mr. Louie Jacob “Mac” DeHart, Jr., age 70 of Lexington, SC, widower of Christina Neilson DeHart, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015 at his home.

Mr. DeHart was born in Columbia, December 31, 1944, a son of the late Louie Jacob DeHart, Sr. and Alberta Traylor DeHart.  He was a graduate of Chester High School and was a retired auto body repairman.  Mr. DeHart was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Tina Marie Wilson of Columbia; a son, Louie Jacob “Jake” DeHart, III of West Columbia; two sisters, Lee Ona DeHart Blair of Blair and Sara Jane DeHart Fowler of Union; two brothers, John Wayne “Shorty” DeHart of Carlisle and William Henry “Bill” DeHart of Union; several grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mr. DeHart was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Sanders and Gwen Padgett and a brother, Richard DeHart.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Kelly Chapel Cemetery in Carlisle conducted by Rev. Mike Scales.

Visitation will follow the services at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 4126 Santuc-Carlisle Hwy., Carlisle.

Billy Fredrick Rochester
Pacolet, SC



Mr. Billy Fredrick Rochester, age 64 of 144 Linson Drive, Pacolet, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Rochester was born in Spartanburg, SC on June 26, 1950, a son of the late Ted Rochester and Mildred Cash Rochester. He was born again, by placing his trust in Jesus Christ, in February 2008. He was previously employed with Clarkson Electrical and was a member of  Hammett Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Rochester was a Veteran of the US Army, having served in the Vietnam Era and was stationed in South Korea.

Mr. Rochester is loved and survived by three sons: Billy Jack Rochester and wife, Shellie of Cowpens, Michael John Rochester and wife Ginny of Hephzibah, GA, and Bobby Rochester of Pacolet; a brother, Kenneth Rochester of Pacolet; a niece, Shellie Rochester Smith of Pacolet; two nephews, Kevin Rochester and David (Smiley) Rochester, all of Pacolet and seven grandchildren. Mr. Rochester was predeceased in death by a brother, Johnny Rochester and a grandson, Seth Rochester.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael John Rochester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Bennett, Brian Rochester, Ray Rochester, Ricky Rochester, Steve Rochester and Jimmy Webb.

Visitation will be held 12:00 PM – 1:45 PM Tuesday, in the church prior to the service.

Frances Vaughan Williams

Mrs. Frances Vaughan Williams, age 87, wife of Davis Herbert Williams of 2211 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy, Buffalo, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Williams was born in Union, SC February 2, 1928, a daughter of the late C.C. “Clum” Vaughan and Ella Mae Smith Vaughan. She retired from United Merchants in Buffalo and also had worked with Milliken & Co – Monarch Plant. Mrs. Williams was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons: Dennis Gault and wife Patty of Pauline, Larry Gault and wife Pamela, Ronnie Gault and Randy Gault and wife Barbara all of Union; a granddaughter, Ashley Gault, reared in the home and seven other grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Annie Mae McGowan of Lockhart, Nell Malpass and Ann Grady both of Union and a brother, John Henry Vaughan of Union. Mrs. Williams was predeceased by a grandson, Shane Gault and a brother, Bobby Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Victory Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Buddy Hogan. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 2:00 -3:00 PM Sunday in the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Dorothy Stepp Young, age 83, formerly of Mt. Vernon Rd., Union, widow of William S. “Bowser” Young, passed away, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Young was born in Union, April 30, 1931, a daughter of the late Robert G. Stepp and Louise Gadden Stepp.  She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are twins; a daughter, Sherry Y. Hoffmann and husband Steve of Spartanburg and a son, Terry E. Young and wife Jean of Union; two sisters, Estelle Dill and husband Earl of Spartanburg and Mildred Alexander and husband Arthur of Union; a grand-daughter, Leslie Sykes and husband David of Gilbert; two grandsons, Chad Silvers and wife Mia of Roebuck and Stewart Young and wife Chloe of Saluda; and 6 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Young was predeceased by two sisters, Arletta Knox and Vera Elrod and a brother, J.B. Stepp.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman. The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Mrs. Ann Gregory Randall, age 77, formerly of Monarch, widow of Willie E. Randall, Sr., passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Randall was born in Lockhart, February 17, 1938, a daughter of the late Elijah and Frances Cogdill Gregory.  She was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.  Mrs. Randall was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Frances Randall Hamilton and husband Jim of Roebuck; a son, Willie E. “Bill” Randall, Jr. and wife Heather of Buffalo; a sister, Bertha Trammel of Lake Murray, a special granddaughter who she worshipped and adored, Connor Nicole Randall, the light of Mrs. Randall’s life; a special nephew, Mike Gregory and wife Van of Monarch and a neice, Betty Meetz of Prosperity.  Mrs. Randall was predeceased by two sisters, Pearl Ivey and Virginia Parrish and a brother, Elijah Gregory, Jr.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 at the church prior to the services.

Mrs. Connie Lee Berry, age 68 of 110 North 4th Street, Lockhart, widow of Albert Jennings, Sr., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Spartanburg Hospital Restorative Care.

Mrs. Berry was born in Union, SC November 27, 1946, a daughter of the late Carl Fuller Berry and Jessie Lee Sanders Berry.  She retired from Milliken & Company and was a member of Union Church of God.

Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly “”Sissy” Jennings of Union and Albert “Cooter” Jennings, Jr. and wife Pamela of Lockhart; four grandchildren: Crystal Jennings, Bradley Jennings, Ashley Jennings and Dustin Jennings; five great-grandchildren: Holden Lipford, Caiden Jennings, Jacob Queen, Brayden Jennings and Kensley “Faith” Roof; two brothers: Carl F. Berry and wife Margaret of Rock Hill and Donnie Berry of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Berry was predeceased by a sister, Linda Fisher.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Lockhart Cemetery conducted by Rev. Rick Sturgis.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Virginia Louise Reid Smith, age 82, of 726 N. Duncan ByPass, Union, widow of Curtis Cecil Smith, Sr., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union, June 28, 1932, a daughter of the late Walter Alcie Reid and Anna Wilson Reid. She was a 1951 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Co., having previously worked with Milliken and Co.  Mrs. Smith was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, but was raised in Westside Baptist Church.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Garrison of the home, three sons, Reid B. Smith and wife Judy of Columbia, Curtis C. Smith, II of the home and Maxie R. Smith and wife Betty of Union; a sister, Eleanor Babb and husband Paul of Bishopville; 9 grandchildren, Scott Lawson, Brent Lawson, Nickie Aavik, Austin Smith, Jessica Branon, Heather Liveright, Brandon Smith, Jessica Leigh Williams and Kelly Tucker; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and her beloved pet dog, Missy.  Mrs. Smith was predeceased by 5 brother and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandsons.

Mrs. Nancy Gail Smith Keith, age 58, wife of Michael Keith of 143 Proctor Rd., Jonesville, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Keith was born in Spartanburg, November 22, 1956, a daughter of the late Horace and Thelma Poole Smith.  She was a homemaker and a former textile worker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, David Byrd and husband Larry of the home; three sisters, Margie Miller of Glendale, Brenda Lindsey and Shirley Webber both of Roebuck; a brother, Randy Smith of Union; a step-daughter, Lisa Keith Nixon of Georgia; two step-sons, John Keith of Spartanburg and Chris Keith of Union; and five step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, March 23, 2015 at New Life Worship Center in Glendale conducted by Rev. Celeste Cathcart and Rev. Paul Smith. Burial will be at Poole Bend Cemetery.

Mrs. Patricia (Ann) Spoone Fortner, age 62, of 3291 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, wife of Dan Fortner, passed away March 19, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Fortner was born in Union, May 9, 1952 a daughter of the late Billy Edward Spoone and Eveline Austin Spoone.  She was a CNA having worked with Home Health Care and was a member of the Union Church of God. 

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Michelle Rollins and fiancée Michael Carroll of Buffalo and Tammy Waldrop and husband Bobby of Gaffney; one son, Wayne Rollins and wife Tina of Union; a sister, Janet Crossley of Gaffney; her step-mother, Margie Spoone of Gaffney; a special aunt, Gladys Henderson of Union; five grandchildren, Billy Dean and Jesse Waldrop of Gaffney, Brooke Rollins of Union, Amber McAbee and husband Jason of Union, and Bubba Yarbrough of Union; four great-grandchildren, Jade and Jerica Waldrop of Gaffney and Joshua and Isaac McAbee of Union; special friends, Shirley and Charles Tabor and Linda Rollins all of Union; a special daughter, Amy Turner of Union and two special sons, Bobby Hall and Mark Coker  Mrs. Fortner was predeceased by a sister, Jill Moss and her maternal grandmother, Madeline Spoone.

Mrs. Wanda Cornelison Keith, age 61 of 909 Beltline Rd., passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Keith was born in Ringgold, GA, June 13, 1953, a daughter of Marie Queen Cornelison of Union and the late Roy Cornelison, Sr.   She was retired from Duke Power, Catawba Plant and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a sister, Terry C. Sinclair and husband Dennis of Greenwood; a brother, Roy Cornelison, Jr. and wife Jean of Union; a daughter, Shuree Burgess and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Keith was predeceased by a daughter, Christy Sparks.

Graveside services were held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 9, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Wiseman and Rev. Wayne Cooke.

Vera Lawson Trammel, age 96 of 234 Harwood Heights, Union, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 14, 2015 at her home. She was the widow of Ralph Cody Trammel.

Mrs. Trammel was born in Union, SC June 28, 1918, a daughter of the late James Monroe Lawson and Ellen Smith Lawson. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where she had worked with the Sun Beams and also a former Vacation Bible School worker. Mrs. Trammel was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter, Joyce McDade and husband Neal of the home; two sons: Terry M. Trammel of Jonesville and Steve Trammel and wife Debbie of Union; a sister, Doris Addison and husband Raymond of Union; six grandchildren: Julie, Michael, Mitch, Jay, Amanda and  Brooke; sixteen great-grandchildren: Josh, Amber, Cody, Alex, Nikki, Payton, Evan, Reid, Lauren, Candice, Kansas, Braxtin, Cabry, Ganning, Lainey and Brent; five great-great-grandchildren: Kobey, Jayden, Gavin, Hunter and Kaylee and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Trammel was predeceased by a son, Gerald Ralph Trammel and thirteen sisters and brothers.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West , Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Mitch Trammel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael McDade, Cody McDade, Josh Jennings, Dan Sherbert, Bryan Gardin, Jay Trammel, Mitch Trammel and Zack Lowe. Members of the Marion Harris Sunday School class, Hope and Carrie Holcombe, Norma Henderson, Pearl Crocker and Sheldon Bennett are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Pam Phipps and other employees and staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina are asked to sit in a group.

Mrs. Sandra Kay Greene “Mama Joker” Johnson, age 63 of 280 Cudd Lane, Union, widow of Randall Johnson, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Spartanburg, SC December 2, 1951, a daughter of the late Carrol Greene and Blanch Greene. She was a graduate of Landrum High School and Pinewood School of Massage.          

Surviving are two daughters: Donna “Lolli” Jones and Rhonda Johnson-Falls (Joshua) all of Union; two sisters: Gail Greene of Boiling Springs and Deborah Stevens (Bob Bullard) of Spartanburg; two brothers: Grady Greene (Vicky) of Inman and Ronnie Greene (Susan) of Landrum; three grandchildren: Rheagan Johnson, Tsali Johnson and Josiah Falls all of Union and special friends, Clarence “Big Poppa” Revell of Atlanta, GA and Kristopher “Two Wheelz” Wormley (Didra) of Columbia.

Mrs. Joyce Heatherly Moss, age 76 wife of Bobby Thomas Moss of 1390 Mudbridge Road, Buffalo, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Moss was born January 14, 1939 a daughter of the late George Heatherly and Eunice Cothran Heatherly.  She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from Ellen Sagar Nursing Home as an LPN.  Mrs. Moss was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Wanda Ferguson and husband James of Simpsonville; two granddaughters, Julia Harris and Meaghan McGinty; two sisters, Frances Sherfield and husband Paul and Shirley Heatherly.  Mrs. Moss was predeceased by a sister Louise Bogan.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 15, 2015 at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Greg Black.

Visitation will be held Saturday Evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Nevil J. “Buddy” Thomas, age 78, of 1135 Lakeside Dr., Union, widower of Mary Gaden Thomas passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Thomas was born in Newberry, SC on November 10, 1936 a son of the late Johnny Brooks Thomas and Blanche Hucklabey Thomas.  A Veteran of the U.S. Army Mr. Thomas served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Thomas was a retired Security Guard and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Robin Chaney and husband Jerry of Union; a son, James “Jimbo” Thomas of Union; a brother, Jerry Clifton Thomas and wife Susan of Whitmire; a granddaughter, Jennifer Chaney Phillips of Union; a great-granddaughter, Annesley Peyton Phillips of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother James Brooks Thomas and a sister, Mellie Thomas White.

Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Jarvis and Rev. David Berry.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Sara Bobo Davis, age 82, widow of Robert F. Davis, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Davis was born in Sedalia, January 3, 1933, a daughter of the late Wylie Bernard Bobo and Bessie Sanders Bobo. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Mon Aetna Baptist Church Day Care after twenty-five years of service. Mrs. Davis had taught the four year olds and touched the lives of many children. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of Ann Hinkle Sunday School Class and was also a nursery worker. Mrs. Davis was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn D. Burnett and husband Dennis “Spanky” Burnett of Union; two sons: Robert Keith Davis and fiancée  Lori Romano of Buffalo and Charles Lewis Davis of Woodruff; a sister, Matrel Mosley of Union; three brothers: Sam Bobo of Union, Jimmy Bobo of Spartanburg and Wayne Bobo of Union; three grandchildren: Patrick Burnett and wife Nicole of Bluffton, Paine Burnett of Union and Sera Michelle Goldie and husband Chris of Spartanburg and a great-grandchild, Harper Blair Burnett of  Bluffton. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by five brothers, L.J. Bobo, Ernest Bobo, Claude Bobo, Roy Bobo and Ray Bobo.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Gaddy and Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Ricky Sizemore, Ray Bobo, Bob Wilkins, Terry Bobo, Patrick Burnett and Paine Burnett.

Mary Geraldine Gabois Cody, daughter of Frank and Sara Gadbois, was born on December 12, 1919 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She was married to the late Charles S. Cody of Union, South Carolina. Mrs. Cody passed on March 10, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel, Friday March, 13th at 2:00 P.M.; the family will be receiving guests from 1:00-2:00 P.M.  The burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden.

Mrs. Cody is survived by her daughter Jane Cody Ivey and son-in-law Tim Ivey of Lexington, South Carolina. She also has four grandchildren: Krystine Buice (husband Kevin Buice), Keely Rietveld (husband Aaron Rietveld), Tyler Ivey (fiancé Kaitlyn Janus), and Amy Ivey. Mrs. Cody is also survived by her 5 great grandchildren: Landon, Bailey, Aaden, Noah, and Zoey.

She was known for her many artistic abilities and creative talents, as well as her quick sense of humor, generosity, love of the ocean and swimming, love of music and singing and love of her family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Union Christian Day School, Union, South Carolina; in memory of Mary Cody.

Mrs. Teresa Ann Knox Watson, age 58, wife of Billy Watson of 245 Suber Lane, Union, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Watson was born in Augusta, GA, May 1, 1956, a daughter of Doris Vaughan Brandon of Union and the late Marvin Dantzler.  She was a homemaker and attended Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Watson was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a step-father, John Brandon; a son, William “Billy” Knox, Jr.; a brother, Buddy Dantzler all of Union; a step son, Stephen Watson of Cross Anchor; special niece and nephew, Lona Anthony of Union and Sgt. Elijah Dantzler of Spartanburg; four great-nieces and nephews and numerous special friends including, Penny and Clint Sewald of Union.  Mrs, Watson was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Knox.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Satuday, March 14, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jim Wiseman and Rev. Paul Childers.  Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mr. Lonnie Cohen Hickman, age 85, widower of Maudine Wilder Hickman of 1084 Cedar Grove Rd., Jonesville, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hickman was born in Royston, GA September 11, 1929, a son of the late Benjamin Carlyle Hickman and Anna Rebecca Bond Hickman. He retired from Milliken & Co and was a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Hickman was a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, a self-taught artist and a meticulous gardener. Mr. Hickman was a loving husband to his wife of sixty-four years. He was a caring, generous, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving are three daughters: Janice Hickman Helms and husband David of Swansea;  Barbara Hickman Evans of Leesville; and Rebecca Hickman McCraw and husband Henry Robert McCraw, Sr., of Gaffney; a son, Thomas Carlyle Hickman and wife Deirdre of Hollis, New Hampshire; a daughter-in-law, Margaret C. Hickman of Fredericksburg, VA; two brothers; Eugene Hickman of Decatur, GA and Herbert Hickman of Lithonia, GA; eight grandchildren: Wilder Hickman, Langdon Hickman, Deanna Black, Hillary Webber, Sara Hilley, Jessica Baker, John Davis and Jennifer Summey; seven step-grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. Mr. Hickman was predeceased by his eldest son, Richard Lonnie Hickman; a sister, Meriam Hickman Smith and two brothers; Nelson Hickman and Ellis Hickman.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Don Alexander. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Donnie Ray Bogan, Brian Thornton, John J. Davis, Nathen Cole Hilley, Wilder Hickman, Jeremy Black and Langdon Hickman.

Ronald “Ronnie” Wages

Mr. Ronald Cole “Ronnie” Wages, 66, of Buffalo, SC , went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ronnie was born in Chester County September 4, 1948, to the late Cole Blease Wages and Margaret Heatherly Wages. He was married to Paulette Collum Collins Wages. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Christopher Cole Wages (Dana) of Wilmington, NC and Andrew Scott Wages of Union; a sister, Carolyn Wages Lawson (Chester) of Buffalo; a brother, Joseph Edward Wages (Grace) of Pfafftown, NC; four grandchildren: Audie, Erin, Ethan, and Samantha Wages of Wilmington, NC. He also is survived by two step-daughters: Candice Moore (Adam) and Misty Collins and five step-grandchildren: Jordan and Austin Martin, Jarrett and Brett Poole and Lucas Moore. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special aunt, Mae Heatherly Tucker and her daughter, Joan Quinn (Larry). Ronnie was predeceased, in addition to his parents by his niece, Sharon.

Ronnie was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was a member of West Springs Baptist Church and had attended Glory Baptist Church. He was previously employed with Torrington Bearing in Union. Ronnie loved Bluegrass music, his guitar, his Harley, living on land that had been in the family for about 100 years but most of all he loved all of his family dearly.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at West Springs Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Dr. Henry Johnson and Rev. Sal Barone officiating.

Pallbearers will be Edward Heatherly, Benjamin Wages, Larry Quinn, Marshall O’Shields, Adam Moore and Louie Lawson. Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Mrs. Emma Cannon Brackins, age 78, wife of Lewis Donald Brackins of 105 Walker St., Union, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Brackins was born in Union, October 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Claude and Ruth Gregory Cannon.  She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 50 years, are a daughter, Kimberly Marler and fiancée Thomas Foley; a granddaughter, Angel Sizemore; special friends, Mary Jo and Donnie Warren all of Union; and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Brackins was predeceased by a sister, Hazeleen Tucker and two brothers, Jack Cannon and Luther Cannon.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Smith.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Don Walton Powers, age 81, husband of Mary Arthur Sims Powers, formerly of 420 Santuc Dr., Union, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Powers was in born Columbus, NC, August 3, 1933, a son of the late Pink and Emma Nobles Powers.  He was a retired barber having worked at Brewington Barber Shop in Charlotte, NC.  Mr. Powers was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Merry Methodist Men’s Club and the W.S. Whitener Sunday School class.  Mr. Powers was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #261 in Charlotte.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters, Margie Ann Powers of Chadbourn, NC and Reba Powers Tesh and husband Vance of Charlotte, NC; a nephew, Ricky Smith and wife Wendy of Union and two nieces, Jennifer Smith Watters and Tiffany Smith Pridemore and husband Josh all of Union.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz.  Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Bertha Ellen Keith Fowler, age 84 of 224 South Boyce Street, Union, widow of Marvin Clifton Fowler, Sr., passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Union, SC February 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Jefferson F. Keith, Sr and Myrtle Garner Keith. She was a graduate of Union High School and Del School of Medical Technology in Asheville, NC. She retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital after thirty years of service. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a member of Tomi Vaughan Sunday School Class. Mrs. Fowler was also a member of the Eastern Star, Martha Chapter 79, Woodmen of the World Lodge #323 and a member of various Genealogy Society’s. She was also registered with Society Clinical Pathology and American Society Clinical Radiologist.

Surviving are three daughters: Marian F. Brenner and husband Ray of Rio Vista, CA, Jean E. Fowler and Crystal A. Fowler and friend Jeff Martin all of Union; a son, Marvin C. Fowler, II and wife Susan of Urbanna, VA; an adopted daughter, Kim Hagan and husband Phillip of Union; three sisters: Nellie Jo Knox, Janie Bollinger and Marguerite Bushnell; a brother, Stonie Keith; three grandchildren: Lindsey A. Fowler, Lauren E. Fowler and Marvin C. Fowler, III and two great-grandchildren: Isaac Fowler Lawter and Noah Fowler Lawter. Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Free and five brothers, William Keith, Martin Keith, Robert Keith, Conley Keith and Jefferson F. Keith, Jr.

Mrs. Hazel Virginia “Tubby” Valentine Self, age 88, of 201 E. Hillcrest Avenue, Union, widow of Bennie Self, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Mrs. Self was born in Pacolet, SC June 19, 1926, a daughter of the late Kelly Valentine and Bertie Mae Lawson Valentine. She had previously worked with Union Mill, Oxford Mills, Bon Worth Retail, Wiggles & Giggles Day Care and Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. Self was a member of Cherokee Falls Baptist Church.

Surviving are five step-children: Scott Self and wife Phyllis, Butch Self and wife Darlene, Frances Blackwell and husband Victor, Edith Dean and Pete Humphries and husband Donnie; two brothers: Dean Valentine and wife Rowena and James “Pap” Valentine and wife Alma and a sister, Geneva Valentine; eight step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Tub” and thought of her as their grandmother. Mrs. Self was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Morrow and a brother Earl Valentine.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Tim Knotts and Rev. Jack Bratton.

Active pallbearers will be Rob Valentine, David Valentine, Kevin Morrow, Steve Morrow, Neil Valentine and Brad Valentine.

Francis Henry Zuraw

Mr. Francis Henry Zuraw, age 65, husband of Linda L. Glidden Zuraw of 2019 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Zuraw was born February 16, 1950, a son of the late Henry Francis Zuraw and Constance Zuraw Trask. He retired from Helco Light Company in Connecticut. Mr. Zuraw was a member of Bare Bones Biker Church. He was also a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Spartanburg Gun Club and an associate member of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Shanna Baiocchetti and Nancy Baiocchetti both of Connecticut; two sons: Henry Francis Zuraw and Jason Allen Zuraw both of Anderson; four brothers; a sister; four granddaughters, one grandson and a great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2015 at United Pentecostal Church, 313 Old Buffalo Rd., Union, SC 29379.

Visitation will be held in the church immediately following the service. Following the visitation, a brief memorial ride, led by the S.C. Patriot Guard Riders will be held.
