Mrs. Marie Parks Wix, age 90 of 1135 Meadow Woods Rd., Buffalo, widow of Grady Wix, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wix was born in Union, SC June 15, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph Parks  and Carrie Lawson Parks. She retired from Her Majesty and was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Mrs. Wix served in the Nursery Department for forty years and was a member of the Young at Heart Sunday School Class.

Surviving are two daughters: Cathy Ramsey and husband Francis of Union and Rhonda LeMaster and husband Larry with whom she made her home; a son, Rickey Wix and wife Cindy of Union; a sister, Grace Barber of Union; ten grandchildren: Julie Murphy and husband Matt, Wendy Rector and husband Jack, Steve Wix and wife Shannon, Chris Wix, Carol Haskett and husband Jerry, Gene LeMaster and wife Allison, Justin LeMaster and wife Chasity, Scarlett Gilkinson and husband B.J., Ric Wix, Travis Wix and wife Kelly; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Earl Ashford of Charlotte and a special friend David Trantham of Newberry. Mrs. Wix was predeceased by a son, Danny Wix; five sisters: Ruby Mitchell, Edna Brown, Doris Smith, Ann Parks and Mary Lesley and nine brothers: Horace Parks, Sam Parks, Tom Parks, Jack Parks, David Parks, Donald Parks, Earl Parks, Floyd Parks and Harold Parks.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Ron Culbertson and Rev. Todd Davis. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Joey Gregory, Steve Crumley, Jerry Williams, Jeff Benson, Paul Sanders, Talmadge Adams, Eddie Wayne Davis and Maxie Ponder.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:30 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Shelia A. Gosnell Huntsinger, age 63, wife of Lawrence Elmo Huntsinger, Jr. of 123 Beach Court Boiling Springs SC., passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Huntsinger was born in Greenville, August 1, 1950, a daughter of Mary Holcombe Crocker of Woodruff and the late Aromas Belcher. She was of the Methodist faith and a graduate of Union High School.

Surviving in addition to her husband is two sons: Kenneth Dalton Jones, Jr. of Union and Trevor Huntsinger of Inman; a daughter: Amanda Huntsinger Kuss and husband, Jonathan of Boiling Springs; a sister: Glenda Sumner of Union; and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Wayne Cooke and Rev. Donnie Johnson. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 unitl 9:00 PM Tuesday night at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cynthia Inman Horne, age 57, wife of Gene Horne of 1101 South Jonesville Hwy., Jonesville, SC passed away at her home Thursday afternoon, March 27, 2014.

Mrs. Horne was born in Union, SC March 26, 1957, the daughter of Lavenia Knox Inman of Jonesville and the late Herbert Arthur Inman. She was a graduate of Union High School and was the former plant manager of Hamricks –Jonesville Plant. Cindy also worked alongside her husband at the family business, Gene’s One Stop. She will always be remember as a hard worker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. She was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Tonya Smith and husband Scott of Lockhart; a son, Robbie Horne and wife Melanie of Jonesville; three grandchildren: Tayla Smith, Raina Smith and Emily Vinson and husband Gene; and one great-grandson, Masen Vinson. Mrs. Horne was pre- deceased by twin sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 30,2014,at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Jeff Dean.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie Horne, Donald “Pete” Smith, Ernie Webber, John Garner, Sammy Jones, Lance Whitfield, Danny Williams and Dean Robinson. Mrs. Ruth Fowler Mullinax, age 91, widow of Frank Mullinax, formerly of Wedgewood Ct., Union, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Valley Falls Terrace in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Mullinax was born in Rutherfordton, NC, May 31, 1922, a daughter of the late Theron and Elizabeth Williams Fowler. She attended Duncan High School and was retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Mullinax was a member of First Baptist Church where she had formerly kept the nursery and was a G.A. leader.  Mrs. Mullinax was a gracious and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen M. Hill and Emily M. Quinn both of Union, and Anne M. Horne and husband Earl of Summerville; a son, Stephen F. Mullinax and wife Peggy of Spartanburg; three sisters, Alma Runnels, Barbara Burell, and Frankie Pustaver; one brother Ernest Fowler; a sister-in-law, Irene Eubanks; six grandchildren, Lara Dempsey, Leah Rosenburg, Blair Mullinax, Stephen Mullinax, Amy Quinn Owenby, and Jonathan Horne; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mullinax was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Rick Pendleton.

The following grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, Blair Mullinax, Stephen Mullinax, Jonathan Horne and Trevor Owenby.

Mrs. Irene Quinn Johnson, age 82, wife of Henry Johnson, formerly of Carem Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Oakmont of Union.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Union, May 19, 1931, a daughter of the late Ranzy Quinn and Evie Parham Quinn. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken and Co., Cedar Hill Plant. Mrs. Quinn was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, a former G.A. Leader and a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kathy Eaton and husband Michael of Moore; a son, Ricky Johnson and wife Denise of Easley; five grandchildren, Jonathan Marcy, Christopher Marcy, Bradford Marcy, Erin Hill and Amanda Cook; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a brother, Frank Quinn.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ross Wilson and Mrs. Lena Lancaster.

Mrs. Johnson’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service at the graveside from 1:30 until 2:00 PM.

Mrs. Marian Spiller McCarty McCoy, age 92, widow of Edward H. McCoy, formerly of Fant Lane, Union, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Skylyn Place in Spartanburg.

Mrs. McCoy was born in Rich Valley, VA, September 30, 1921, a daughter of the late Jackson Beagles McCarty and Laura Spiller Buchanan McCarty. She was a graduate of Virginia-Intermont College and attended King College both in Bristol, VA. Mrs. McCoy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Union where she was a member of Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Fairforest Chapter of the D.A.R. and the Book Club and Garden Club of Union. She held membership in various bridge clubs, a hobby she enjoyed.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda McCoy Wittenstein and husband Joseph of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Spiller McCoy Gregory and husband Don of Spartanburg; a brother, Jackson Beagles McCarty and wife Rosamond of Marion, VA; four grandchildren, Tammara Lovett of Woodbridge, CT,  Adrienne Lovett of Reno, NV, Alison Gregory of Bozeman, MT and Jeremy Gregory of Spartanburg, and two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Jacob Katz.

The family will receive friends 6:30 until 8:00 PM Friday evening, March 28, 2014 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home, Union,SC.

Mrs. Robin Black Erwin, age 52, wife of Jack “Joe” Erwin, Jr., of 223 Old Shetley Place, Union, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Erwin was born in Union, SC January 10, 1962, a daughter of Hazel James Black of Union and the late Fred Hayes Black, Sr. She was a homemaker and attended Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kristy Erwin of the home; three sisters: Kathy B Erwin of Union, Judy Crocker of Spartanburg and Faye Griffin of Union; a brother, Fred H. Black, Jr of Union and three grandsons, Hunter Boulware, Jacob Boulware and Landen Boulware. Mrs. Erwin was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Predue.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mr. Horace Alton Earls, age 92, widower of Margaret Roberts Earls, of 674 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Earls was born in Blacksburg, September 30, 1921, a son of the late Frank D. Earls and Mary Aker Earls. He was retired from Conso Products and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Earls was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII in the Medical Corp. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V. of Union County.

Surviving are two daughters, Frankie E. Ivey of Union and Joan Williford and husband S.W. of Hickory, NC; a son, Jackie Earls, Sr. of Union; a brother, Floyd D. Earls of Maryland; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Earls was predeceased by two grandson, Billy Blackwood, Jr. and Terry Blackwood, a sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by President Jay Larson, Mr. Joe Larson and Mr. Milt Fletcher. Burial with Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jackie Earls, Jr., Jonathan Earls, Marc Williford, Randal Liner, David Todd and Michael Todd Kirby.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice and his caregiver, Laura “Noots” Alman for all the love and concern they showed Mr. Earls during his illness.

Mrs. Doris Vaughan Eaves, age 88, widow of James Edward Eaves of 4734 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away, Friday, March 21, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Eaves was born in Union, November 17, 1925, a daughter of the late James Lemuel Vaughan and Eddie Gregory Vaughan.  She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Club and the Bible Study Class. Mrs. Eaves loved to visit the shut-ins and work with the tape ministry of the church.  She was an avid gardener, growing both flowers and vegetables for her family and friends. Mrs. Eaves was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Jean E. Crocker and husband Ronnie of Union; a grandson, Brian C. Crocker and wife Michelle of Columbia and a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Crocker. Mrs. Eaves was predeceased by a son, James Lemuel Eaves, Jr., two sisters, Aileen V. Ivey and Frances V. Robinson and a brother, Bill Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Tommy Mann. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Ivey, Steve Gibson, Fredrick Tucker, Ronnie Eaves, Stan Eaves, Tommy Eaves and Robert Palmer. Members of the Bible Study Class and the Joy Club of Philippi Baptist Church, along with Bobby Horne, Eddie Gibson and Joel Miller are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

Charles Millard Hart
Jonesville, SC


Mr. Charles Millard Hart, age 53, of 461 Lee Road, Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hart was born November 17, 1960 a son of Sally Greer Hart of the West Springs Community and the late John C. Hart. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Hart had previously worked with the Department of the Navy as an engineer with Naval Sea Systems Command in Norfolk, VA and later with SPAWAR Systems Command in Charleston, SC and had retired from the FBI as an IT Systems Engineer. He enjoyed taking care of the farm and loved animals and enjoyed traveling and family gatherings. Mr. Hart loved his nieces and nephews and giving gifts at Christmas and birthdays. He loved Union County the people of the West Springs Community and the Fellowship of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Sally Greer Hart, are two sisters, Jane Hammett of the West Springs Community and Cynthia Squires of Easley, SC; three brothers, John Hart, Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA, David Hart of Raleigh, NC, and Frank Hart of the West Springs Community; twelve nieces and nephews, Leigh Scott, Matthew Squires, Ben Squires, Will Hammett, Katie Paschall, Sally Hart, Maggie Hart, Ava Hart, Roman Hart, Lori Hart, Joe Hart, and Sarah Hart.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2014 at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Greg Black and Rev. Henry Johnson. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Grady Davis, age 81 of 114 Pinewood Acres Rd., Union, widow of John Kenneth Davis, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Davis was born in Union, SC October 17, 1932, a daughter of the late John R. Grady and Pauline Farr Grady. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken & Company - Cedar Hill Plant. Upon retirement, Mrs. Davis worked at Graham Cash. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Steve Davis and wife Kitty of Union; a granddaughter, Amy Barber Livingston and husband Billy of Buffalo; two great-grandsons, Cameron Barber and Landon Livingston and special nieces, Linda Mayes of Jonesville and April Holt Gregory. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Holt and Wilsie Morris, a brother, Jimmy Grady and a special niece, Barbara Jean Holt.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz and Mr. Jerry Gossett. Burial will be in Bogansville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ernest Alexander Knox, age 45, of 373 Blackstock Rd, Enoree, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

Mr. Knox was born in Union, SC on November 26, 1968 a son of Mr. Ernest Howard Fisher, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Irene Seay Knox. He was employed with ITS as a truck driver.

Surviving in addition to his father are a daughter, Brittany Knox of Union; a special friend, Aubrey Godfrey of the home; a grandson, James Warr of Union; two brothers, James and Wesley Knox both of Union; and a step-brother, Ernie Fisher of Buffalo.

Mr. Jack Richard “Ricky” Ivey, age 58, of 103 Peay Ave., Union, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Ivey was born in Union, August 17, 1955, a son of the late Jack W. Ivey and Dorothy Malpass Ivey. He was formerly employed with Conso Products and was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Cheryl Martin and husband Jimmy of the home; a niece, Angel Ochiltree and husband Josh of Union; a nephew, Timothy Wayne Martin of the home; a great niece, Libby Allison; three great-nephews, Peyton, Jayden and Colton Ochiltree all of Union; two aunts, Teresa Lawson and Susie Lipsey both of Union; two uncles, Bobby Malpass of Cayce; Johnny Malpass of Texas; and a special friend, Tonya Knight of Ware Shoals. Mr. Ivey was predeceased by a brother, Terry Ivey.

Mr. Bruce Davis, age 71, husband of Bonnie Austin Davis of 296 Meansville Rd., Apt G4, Brittany Manor , Union SC, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014.

Mr Davis was born in Union, SC June 17, 1942, a son of the late Jessie Ben Davis and Ozella Boling Davis. He was a retired textile worker and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Mr. Davis had served with the SC National Guard.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Crystal Clark and husband Brad of Woodruff, April Hogan and husband Buddy of Union and Lisa Vinson and husband David of Buffalo; a son, Randy Davis and wife Debbie of Buffalo; a sister, Brenda Liner and husband Grady of Jonesville; two brothers: Bobby Joe Davis and wife Donna and Harold Dean Davis and wife Faye all of Union; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Denice Davis, a son, Christopher Todd Austin, a sister, Sandra O’Shields and a brother, Darrel Davis.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conduced by Rev. Dr. Aubrey Calvert. Mr. Davis’s grandsons and nephew, T.J. Gault will serve as active pallbearers.

Mr. White was born September 14, 1923, a son of the late Wilson Carlisle White and Julia Phillips White. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church Union and a graduate of Clemson University. A Veteran of the US Army, he  served in World War II as a Combat Infantryman in the European Theater and was a recipient  of the Purple Heart. He was retired from the US Department of Agriculture where he was a District Conservationist.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Betsy Burton and two sons,  Bill White and Thom White.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Clyde “Huck” McKinney, Jr.

Mr. Clyde “Huck” McKinney, Jr., age 86, husband of Anna King McKinney of 513 Traversie Court, Spartanburg, SC 29303 passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home.

Mr. McKinney was born in Union, SC on December 25, 1927 a son of the late Clyde Edward Sr. and Glydes Farmer McKinney. He was retired from Milliken and Company and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. McKinney was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon having served a chairman of Deacons. He had also been a Mason at Mt. Joy Lodge No. 322, a Shriner, and an American Legion Member of Jonesville Post No. 129.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Billy McKinney and wife Hazel of Union and Ricky McKinney and wife Jeannine of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Chrissy Wilkins and husband Craig of Jonesville, Emmy Lou McKinney of Jonesville, Brandy Gainor and husband Gray of India, Matthew Murphy of Pacolet, and Samantha Chasten of Pacolet; five great-grandchildren, Sarala, Jackson, Sam, Parks, and Wint Gainor all of India. Mr. McKinney is predeceased by two brothers, A.C. McKinney and Wallace McKinney.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Bill Cashion and Rev. Ralph Brown.

Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Horne, Mike Scales, John Adams, Matthew Murphy, Craig Wilkens, and Brad Horne.

Visitation will be held 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM Saturday prior to the service at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mary Johnson

Mrs. Mary Mitchell Johnson, age 85, of 207 Hightower Lake Rd., Union, widow of Edward Johnson, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Greenrock, Scotland, May 20, 1928, a daughter of the late William Kingshott and Laura Laughton Kingshott. She was a member of Lockhart United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson worked for Springs Industry in Chester for 35 years, following her retirement she worked for Hope Hospital in Lockhart as a dietitian.

Surviving are two sons: John Mitchell of York, and Mike Mitchell of Washington state; Five daughters: Sue Mellon of Union, Paulette Reeves of Spartanburg, Ann Martin of Lockhart, Candy Kingsmore of Winnsboro and Kim Horne of Union; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two special care givers, Kacie Horne and Joyce Neal of Union.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Lockhart United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Donna Eidson and Rev. Merritt Wentz.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 til 2:45 prior to the service at the church.

In a lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Epworth Children’s Home, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250. The family is at the home of her daughter and Son-in-law, Kim and Donnie Horne, 207 Hightower Lake Rd., Union, SC.

Mr. Michael “Boyd” Ivey, age 52, of 262 Vernon foster Rd., Union, passed away, Friday, February 28, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Ivey was born September 12, 1961 in Union, SC., a son of the late Garris Lamar Ivey, Sr. and Sylvia “Gail” Howell Ivey. He was a graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Ivey had worked as a correction officer with DJJ and a member of the Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters: Brittany Darby and Eddie of Chester and Meghan Ivey and Travis Honeycutt of Rockhill; a brother: Garris “Lamar” Ivey, Jr. of Union; Grandchildren: Brae’ Leigh, Kae’ Leigh, Madison, Zoey and Landon.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 3, 2014 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Tommy Brown.

The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Lena Vinson Scales

Mrs. Lena Avenelle Vinson Scales, age 90, widow of Guy Wilbur Scales, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Scales was born January 22, 1924, a daughter of the late William W. And Ida James Vinson of Jonesville, SC. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Robinson Business College. Mrs Scales was a life long devoted member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and the former President of the United Methodist Women. She retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant after 42 years of service and was a member of Jonesville American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Scales was married to Guy Wilbur Scales for 65 years prior to his death in 2007. She is survived by her son, Guy Michael (Mike) Scales and his wife, Susan Little Scales of Jonesville, SC; her granddaughter, Rev. Emily Scales Sutton and her husband Marc Sutton of Rock Hill, SC; her grandson, Matthew Newell Scales and his wife Dr. Kristi Ford Scales of Greenwood, SC, her great grandson, Wylie Matthew Scales and great granddaughter, Isabella Kaye Sutton.

Funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Glenn Ribelin and Rev. Carl Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brad Horne, Tyler Adams, Ricky McKinney, Billy McKinney, Lewis McDade, Kenneth Horne and Dalton Johnson.
The family will receive friends after the service in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church social hall.
