Thomas T.N. Bryant
Pacolet, SC


Mr. Thomas T.N. Bryant, age 84, husband of Mattie L. Bryant of 142 Chapman Rd., Pacolet, went home Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bryant was born June 13, 1934 in Pickens Co., GA, a son of the late Vance Buren Bryant and Lora Mathews Bryant.  He was first married to the late Ruby P. Bryant.  Mr. Bryant was a Supervisor at Union Camp Corporation.  He was a former member of Spartans MC.  Mr. Bryant loved riding his Harley, playing guitars, chewing tobacco, all animals, and holding everyone’s hand that he met.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Elibia J. Bryant and Kimberly J. Bryant both of Pacolet; one son, Timothy R. Bryant of Jonesville; a special son, Daniel Parton of Pacolet; one sister, Adean B. Dillard of Pacolet; one brother, Hugh J. Bryant of Dalzell; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one son, Thomas Randall Bryant and one granddaughter, Kimberly Jill Marshall.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Brother John Grice and Rev. Paul Tessnear.  Burial will follow at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Members of the Southern Legends MC and biker community are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM prior to the services at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of 5 West and 5 Heart at Spartanburg Regional and Kindred Care of Union.

Dewey Eugene Gossett
Jonesville, SC


Mr. Dewey Eugene Gossett, age 74 of 413 Worthy Street, Jonesville, SC., widower of Shirley Simmons Gossett passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Gossett was born May 29, 1944 in Union, a son of the late Nathaniel L. and Ethel S. Gossett. He worked manufacturing auto parts.

Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Ann Parris and husband Robert Wayne of Campbello; two sons, Joseph Philip Gossett of Wellford and David Jonathan Gossett of Pacolet; two brothers, Ralph Gossett and wife Lola of Wellford and Gerald Gossett and wife Eunice of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Gossett was predeceased by a brother, Dewey L. Gossett and three sisters, Margaret Sumner and Mary “Sis” Gossett.

Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Calvary Hill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Pickel.

The family will receive friends 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to charity of one’s choice.

Mary Ann Baldwin “Cooter” Vaughn
Buffalo, SC


Mrs. Mary Ann Baldwin “Cooter” Vaughn, age 60, of 240 South St., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Vaughn was born December 11, 1957 in Union a daughter of the late Roy Baldwin and Bobbie Jean Roark Baldwin Pitt.

Surviving are two sisters, Freda Taylor of Buffalo and Joyce Dobson of Clover; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Larry Baldwin and Ricky Baldwin.

Memorial services will be scheduled by the family at a later date.


Joseph Edward “Eddie” Boulware
Union, SC


Mr. Joseph Edward “Eddie” Boulware, age 72 of 1347 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, widower of Ruby Lane Boulware, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Home in Anderson.

Mr. Boulware was born December 25, 1945 in Chester, a son of the late Clarence Marion Boulware and Edith Miller Boulware.  He was a graduate of Chester High School and retired from Cone Mill—Carlisle Finishing Plant.  Mr. Boulware later co-owned and operated B&L Enterprises, Inc.  He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in Vietnam.  Mr. Boulware was a member of Welcome Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, and Choir Member.  He was a member of Woodman of the World. 

Surviving are three sons, Eddie Lane and wife Teresa of Union, Tommy Lane and wife Deborah of Union, and Scotty Lane of Clinton; one sister, Ann Delancey and husband Wayne of Chester; two brothers, Blane Boulware and wife Glennie and Ivy Boulware and wife Tammy; three grandchildren, Tyler Lane and fiancée Megan Smith, Andrea Lane Robinson and husband Jon, and Justin Lane; and special caregivers, Lisa Moore and Mary Duncan.  He was predeceased by two brothers, James “Jimmy” Boulware and Andrew Boulware.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Welcome Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Jarvis, Rev. Tony Pettit, and Rev. Lee Franklin.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hawkins-Lane Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Boulware, Chuck Boulware, Lance Davis, Lee Davis, Buddy Parris, Billy Ledford, Billy Keisler, and Jackie Earls.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and friends at Richard M. Campbell VA Nursing Home in Anderson.

Carolyn O. McMurray
Whitmire, S.C.


Mrs. Carolyn O’Shields McMurray, age 78, of 2242 Hwy. 72, Whitmire, widow of Charles “Skeet” McMurray, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Center in Newberry.

Mrs. McMurray was born in Whitmire, September 28, 1939, a daughter of the late Jack and Vernelle “Tot” Evans O’Shields. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and retired as a receptionist in Dr. Rick Bledsoe’s dentist office.  Mrs. McMurray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitmire.

Surviving are a son, Reggie McMurray of the home; a brother, Rev. Charles O’Shields of Chapin; four grandchildren, Nicole McMurray, Charles McCarley, and John McCarley and wife Leigh Ann, all of Whitmire and Lesley M. Gregory and husband Jonathan of Union; five great-grandchildren, Jase Edwards, Levi McMurray, Chase, Noah, and Dalana McCarley; her aunt, Marion Johnson of New York and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. McMurray was predeceased by a daughter, Jodi McCarley, a son, Randy McMurray and a sister, Jackie Frazier.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 15, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Whitmire conducted by Rev. Shannon Long and Rev. Charles O’Shields.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the services.

Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church of Whitmire, 173 Glenn St., Whitmire, SC 29178.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Michael Robert Petty
Union, SC


Mr. Michael Robert Petty, age 70, of 1109 W. Main St., Union, passed away, Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Rainey Hospice House of Anderson.

Mr. Petty was born in Buffalo July 9, 1947 a son of the late Robert and Waunet Smith Petty.  He was a veteran of the US Army having served as a medic in Germany during the Vietnam Era.  Mr. Petty was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg Methodist College following Military Service.  He was retired from Milliken & Co. as Department Manager.  Mr. Petty was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Amanda Lowe and husband Eric of Honea Path; a son, Chris Petty of Honea Path; two grandchildren Garrett Lowe and Kara Lowe; a beloved pet cat, Fonzie; an uncle, Glenn Caldwell of Buffalo; and three cousins, Amy Crisp, Tommy Robertson and wife Kathy, and Terry Robertson, all of Buffalo.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2018 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Jennifer Trammell.

Visitation will be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Norma Jean McCloud Burgess
Union, SC


Mrs. Norma Jean McCloud Burgess, age 60, wife of Paul H. Burgess, Jr., of 165 Woodside Dr., Union, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Burgess was born November 8, 1957 in Union a daughter of the late D. A. McCloud and Gladys Vanderford McCloud.  She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and was employed with Wal-Mart of Union.  Mrs. Burgess was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Candace Brooke Wilkie and husband Chris of Union; son, Paul H. “Trey” Burgess, III and fiancée Amber Robinson of Boiling Springs; one sister, JoAnne Walker of Lockhart; one brother Rick McCloud and wife Shirley of Union; and three grandchildren, Karsyn Burgess, Kole Burgess, and Braelyn Wilkie.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2018 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Rick McCloud, Jr., Lemond Vanderford, Clint Smallwood, Michael Bentley, Jimbo McCloud, and Roger Vanderford.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, Celeste Goode West, Aileen Ashe, and past and present employees of Wal-Mart of Union.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Estelle “Stella” McAbee Williams
Union, SC


Mrs. Williams was born July 30, 1930 in Union, a daughter of the late Tom McAbee and Ann Jones McAbee.  She was retired from the textile industry where she had previously been a spinner.  Mrs. Williams was of the Baptist Faith. 

Surviving are four children, Kenneth Bolin of Leesville, Bobby Bolin and wife Jean of Buffalo, Kathy Garner of Gainsville, GA, and Robert Carlisle of Georgia; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by two daughters, Cindy Lee and Doretha Brown, one brother, John Henry McAbee and one granddaughter, Tammy Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday afternoon prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Estelle Williams Fund, P.O. Box 293, Union, SC 29379.

James Leamon Crisp, Jr.
Buffalo, SC


Mr. James Leamon “Jimmy” Crisp, Jr, age 73 of 937 Main Street, Buffalo, widower of Patsy Crisp, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Crisp was born in Norfolk VA August 22, 1944, a son of the late James L. Crisp and Evelyn Staley Crisp. He had previously worked on cruise ships and was an avid golfer. Mr. Crisp was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving are a son, James Albert Crisp of FL; two brothers: Preston Crisp and Ronald Crisp both of Buffalo; a loving niece, Amanda Fox; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are not planned at this time.


Lucille Miller Voiselle
Buffalo, SC


Mrs. Lucille Miller Voiselle, age 90, of 3639 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy., Buffalo, widow of John Voiselle, Jr., passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Voiselle was born December 13, 1927 in Chester, a daughter of the late Claude Miller and Estelle Dawkins Miller.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Cone Mill after 30 years.  Mrs. Voiselle was an active member of McCutcheon Presbyterian Church where she had served as the church clerk, was a member of Women of the Church, helped with the youth, and taught Bible School.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan Lawson and husband Stanley and Jill Brown and husband Troy all of Buffalo; one sister, Ruby Coward of Chapin; five grandchildren, Beth Maxwell, Jay Voiselle and wife Renarda, Holly Lawson, Kim Voiselle, and Matthew Voiselle and wife Sarah; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by three sons, John Voiselle, III, William Dale Voiselle, and Joseph Wade Voiselle; two sisters, Teenie Weathers and Jeanette Linder and two brothers, Dale Miller and Ross Miller.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman and Rev. Spencer Ledford.  Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Gem McCutcheon, Cory McCutcheon, Jay Voiselle, Matt Voiselle, Jaylon Voiselle, and Noah Voiselle.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, the Nurses and Staff of Medi Home Hospice, Johnnie Sherbert, Nikki Brannon, Katie Henderson, Margaret Ann West, Mary Lawson, and Betty Farr.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM prior at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
