Mr. Kelly Wayne McKinney, age 47, husband of Wanda Weathers McKinney of 133 Oak St., Pacolet, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McKinney was born in Marion, NC, February 28, 1969, a son of Linda Bodford McKinney of Pacolet and the late Kelly Wade McKinney.  He was a graduate of Broome High School and employed and as electrician.  Mr. McKinney attended Friends of Faith Church in Pacolet.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Samantha King and husband Damian; three sons, Josh McKinney and wife Lauren, Zachary McKinney and Nicholas A. McKinney all of Pacolet; three brothers, Keith Pennington and wife Lindsay of Greer, Billy McKinney and Jason McKinney both of Spruce Pine, NC; three grandsons, Brantley and Jackson King and Wade McKinney; a granddaughter, Rosalynn McKinney; two uncles, Randall Bodford and wife Teresa and Richard Bodford and wife Mary all of Pacolet; an aunt, Katie Smith and husband Renn of Lenoir, NC; a special cousin, Debbie McKinney and a host of family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Goucher Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Charlie Wilborn.

Active pallbearers will be Josh McKinney, Gerald Turner, Lanny Gordan, Trevor Panther, Tyler Weathers, and Joey Weathers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Mrs. Tammie Brooks Coile, age 54, of 310 River Hills Rd., Union, widow of Allen Dale Coile passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Coile was born in Union, SC on September 16, 1961 a daughter of the late Lewis Brooks and Betty Marks Brooks.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was a certified Phlebotomist.  Mrs. Coile was formerly employed with Wallace Thomson Hospital and Sims Jr. High School.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are her boyfriend, Ted Mosier of Jonesville; a son, Derrick Coile of Union; a daughter Brittany C. Smith of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Cheryl Black and Arlene Earls both of Union; two brothers, Don Ingram and wife Martha of Enoree and Lester Ingram and wife Linda of Walterboro; two grandchildren, Ashlyn Smith and Eli Stroman.  Mrs. Coile was predeceased by a daughter, Ashley Coile and a brother, Dexter Brooks.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery

Martha Ann Clontz Gibson
Union, SC


Mrs. Martha Ann Clontz Gibson, age 82 formerly of Buffalo, widow of John Henry Gibson passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Matthews, NC on November 18, 1933 a daughter of the late Fred L. Clontz and Winnie Bolick Clontz.  She was retired from Conso Products and was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Spartanburg.  Mrs. Gibson was a volunteer with Wallace Thomson Hospital and with various hospice groups.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Cody and husband David of Union; three sons, Henry Gibson of Inman, Robert Gibson of Cummings, GA, and Les Gibson and wife Shelby of Union; five grandchildren Winnie Elizabeth Cody, Priscilla Morton, Mandy Gibson, Kevin Gibson, and Amber Gibson and fiancée Danchize Wilson; one great-grandchild, MaKayla Morton; and one sister-in-law, Betty Clontz.  Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Augsburg Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor Carl A Voges.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruby Jewel Brown Hightower, age 97, widow of Everett Hightower, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Lexington Medical Center.

Mrs. Hightower was born in Spartanburg Co., January 28, 1919, a daughter of the late Marcus Pumroy Brown and Minnie Nix Brown. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from the Dept. of Agriculture, Soil Conservation.  Mrs. Hightower was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Lexington.

Surviving are two sons, George Hightower of Lexington and Everett Hightower of Anchorage, AK; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a dear family friend Linda Todd of Lexington.  She was predeceased by a brother, Lon Brown.

Graveside services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Don Bell



Richard D. McBride, Jr.
Pacolet, S.C.


Mr. Richard Donald McBride, Jr., age 61, passed away at his home in Pacolet, Monday, June 27, 2016.

Mr. McBride was born in Union, February 16, 1955 a son of Mazel Vanderford McBride Owens and the late Richard Donald McBride, Sr.  He was formerly employed with Hoke Distributors and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pacolet.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his step-father, John “Perk” Owens of Pacolet, a daughter, Lori McBride; a son, “Little Rick” McBride both of Union; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  He was predeceased by his brother, Steve McBride.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Don Paris.

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the services.

Mr. Billy Ray White, age 60, of 224 Oakland Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016.

Mr. White was born in Union, May 12, 1956, a son of the late Walter William White and Annie Ruth Campbell White. He was retired from General Motors after 25 years of service and was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Surviving are a son, Cody White of Stenton, MI; his girlfriend, Julie Tollison Gregory of Union; two brothers, Donald Ray White of Jacksonville, FL and Kenneth Wayne White of Flint, MI and his beloved pet dog Buddy.

Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Lakeside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Jennings and “Buddy”, Ronnie Yount, Tanner Petty, Dennis “Pee Wee” Greer, Travis Nance, Tyler Howell and David Owens.

Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the services.

Mrs. Nancy Carol McSwain Millwood, age 62 wife of Robert Nipper of 115 Mill Street, Buffalo, went to be with her Heavenly Father and family Monday, June 20, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Millwood was born in Union, SC on May 5, 1954 a daughter of the late Clyde McSwain and Audrey Haney McSwain.  She was a faithful member of Covenant Baptist Church and loved doing mission work and spreading the gospel.  Mrs. Millwood was first married to the late Ray Rufus Millwood, Jr.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Brian Millwood of Buffalo and Michael Millwood and wife Chasity of Union; two sisters, Patsy Freeman and husband Steve of Union and Faye Martin and husband David of Buffalo; two granddaughters, Briana Millwood of Spartanburg and Emily Biggerstaff of Union; one grandson, Casey Wayne Zornes of Union; a special friend Carolyn Malpass of Union; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one brother, Edward McSwain.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Wayne Cook, Rev. Melvin Shelton, Rev. Johnny Burgess, and Rev. Chuck Parrott. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Miss Janie Eunie Bentley, age 89, formerly of Bentley Town Rd., Union, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Miss Bentley was born in Union, September 10, 1926, a daughter of William and Maggie Farr Bentley. She was a homemaker and a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Betty Webber of Spartanburg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several sisters and brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be at Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Tammy Jacqueline Todd, age 51 wife of James Larue Todd of 135 Cedar Springs Rd., Spartanburg, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Todd was born in Spartanburg, SC on October 17, 1964 a daughter of Jonathan Bailey and the late Jacqueline Johnson Bailey.

Surviving in addition to her husband and father are a son, Larry Jewell of Pauline; two daughters, Barbara Aptsuria of Russia and Lizzy Mathis of Columbia; one brother, Jonathan Bailey of Inman; and three grandchildren, Zack Aptsuria, Saba Aptsuria, and Kandence Jewell.

Charles Denver Conard

Charles Denver “Dick” Conard, also lovingly known as “Papa John” age 85, husband of Jewel “Dib” Huffstetler Conard of 1431 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, SC., went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 17, 2016 at Loweman Home.

Mr. Conard was born in Lockhart, June 25, 1930, a son of the late John Thomas and Vergie Black Conard. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church. Mr. Conard served in the United States Army and the South Carolina National Guard for a total of 41 years of service and worked as an electrician until his retirement. He was a member of the Lockhart Masonic Lodge 244 and was an avid gardener. Mr. Conard was the last surviving member of his immediate family

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Ann Hunter Bennett and husband Brenton of Chapin, Dawn Conard of Chester, Amy Conard of Irmo and Amanda Jane Conard of Pacolet; Grandchildren, Alexis Bennett and David Bennett both of Chapin and Christopher Silliman of Pacolet. Mr. Conard was predeceased by five sisters, Louise Rash, Irene “Tug” Lee, Jerusha Palmer, Marie “Bay” Stephenson and Carolyn “Cooter” McKnight; three brothers, W.E. “Runt” Conard, John Lloyd “Red” Conard and John Thomas “Bud” Conard.

As dawn broke Friday morning, June 17, 2016, the Lord said “My Daughter, you have fought the good fight, you have suffered enough, come be with me.”  Sherry Darlene Harris Hodge widow of James “Jimmy” Hodge, Jr., went to be with the Lord at her home.

Mrs. Hodge was born in Union, SC on July 18, 1960 a daughter of the late Robert Marshall Harris and Ruby Vinson Harris.  She was a graduate of Union High School and had previously worked at United Wood.  Mrs. Hodge was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are two sisters, Brenda Harris of Union and Judy Phillips and husband Don of Dallas, TX; one brother, Danny Harris of Union; three step children, Rebecca Schambach and husband Dave, Ben Hodge and wife Ann, Emma Addison and husband Greg; special niece, Kim Blackwell; special friend Ronnie Green; ten nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews; and four step grandchildren.  She was predeceased by three brothers, Paul Kenneth Harris, John Robert Harris, and Joseph Thomas Harris and one niece, Melissa Hope Harris.

Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 20, 2016 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Glenn Ribelin. 

Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Monday prior to the services at the Church.

Raymond “Sonny” Crocker

Mr. Raymond H. “Sonny” Crocker, age 85, husband of Gwendolyn Hines Crocker of 310 Maple St., Union, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Sweetgrass Village in Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Crocker was born in Spartanburg, June 21, 1930, a son of the late Raymond Heyward Crocker, Sr. and Ola Nichols Crocker. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended Clemson University but was an avid Gamecock fan.  Mr. Crocker was retired after 39 years from the S.C. National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer and member of the 118th Infantry Division, Union. After retirement he operated his own business, The Fire Crocker House and was member of the S.C. Fireworks Association. 

Mr. Crocker was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was a former president of the Union High School Band Aid Club, had served as Director of the Kudzu Festival and was also a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge.  He loved the beach and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Donna C. Sumner and husband Mike of Union; a son, Monty Crocker and wife Patti of Atlanta; a sister, Nancy O’Dell of Union; a brother, Donald Crocker of Ft. Payne, AL; special friends, Jim and Trudy Smith of Union; five grandchildren, Lillianna Crocker, Noah Crocker, Nat Crocker and two special granddaughters who helped with his care, Brooke Newell and Merritt Segars and husband Rob all of James Island.; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Mr. Crocker was predeceased by two sisters, Jenny Merle Crocker and Judy Aman, and two brothers, Larry Crocker and Nick Crocker.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and nurses of Sweetgrass Village and Piedmont Hospice for their care and concern of Mr. Crocker during his illness. The family also extends a special thank you to their many friends and family members for their love and support shown during this time.

Mrs. Ruby Mae Jones, age 93, formerly of Lockhart, SC., widow of Henry Thomas Jones, passed away, Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

Mrs. Jones was born in Lockhart, May 25, 1923 a daughter of the late Rev. Ernest C. and Roxie Brooks Rash.  She was a faithful member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where she had served as organist prior to moving to Greenville.

Surviving are a son, Thomas M. Jones and wife Jo Ann; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Mary Ellen Sprouse and husband Sam and a brother Paul Rash and wife Yvonne all of Lockhart.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Lemons.

The family will receive friends at the chapel immediately following the services.

Braddie Riddle Rice
Buffalo, S.C.


Mrs. Braddie Riddle Rice, age 93, formerly of Buffalo, widow of William C. Rice, Jr., passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Rice was born in Spartanburg Co, May 6, 1923, a daughter of the late John Faber Riddle and Millie Smith Riddle. She returned to Buffalo at the age of 4 after the death of her father. Mrs. Rice graduated from Union High School and spent much of her adult life employed with Buffalo Mills. After its closing, she worked in the cafeteria of Foster Park School until her retirement.

Mrs. Rice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she served in the nursery and beginner’s department for many years. She loved her church and worked faithfully for many years teaching, visiting, cooking and learning.

Mrs. Rice was the last surviving member of her immediate family which included three sisters, Margaret Gowan, Francis Kingsmore and Ruby Gregory and one brother, Faber Riddle.

Surviving are a daughter, Harriet R. Goforth and husband Will of White Stone; a son, Stanley Rice and wife Patti of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Molly Mierke and husband Peter of Richmond Hill, GA and Andrew Goforth of White Stone; two great-grandsons, Avery and Isaac Mierke of Richmond Hill, GA. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family which includes Kevin Shropshire and wife Kelly and family, Lee Shropshire and wife Lacy of Union and Ron Lybrand and wife Melinda of Union.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2016 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the at the church from 12:45 until 1:45 PM Friday prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be David Riddle, Harold Gregory, Andrew Goforth, Lee Shropshire, John Riddle, Doug Johnson and Jamie Smith.

Miss Dorothy Grace Fowler of Union, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday June 12, 2016.

Dot was a daughter of the late John Herbert Fowler and Molly Brown Fowler. She attended Union Co. Schools and was retired from Milliken and Co.  She later managed one of her brother’s family businesses.  She was a charter member of Covenant Baptist Church where she served on various church committees.

Dot had a big heart and shared her love and compassion for everyone. She delightfully shared her gift of cooking and baking with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sisters, Marlene Proctor of Union and Mary Kate Bobo and husband Bill of Laurens; a niece, several nephews and great-nieces and nephews.  Dot was predeceased by a sister, Ferol Vinson and a brother, James H. “Lefty” Fowler.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke and Rev. Dale Whelch, her cousin.

James “Dick” Millwood

Mr. James “Dick” Millwood, age 79, of 150 April Rd., Pacolet widower of Shirley Spencer Millwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2016 at his daughter’s home.

Mr. Millwood was born in Spartanburg, SC on September 20, 1936 a son of the late James V. Millwood and Margaret Fowler Millwood.  He was a Veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict and was retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 22 years.  Mr. Millwood was a retired textile worker and had retired as a member of the Pacolet Mills Rescue Squad.  He was a member of First Baptist Church Pacolet, the VFW Club, Though Shoals Lodge #228 where he was past Master in 2002, and a lifetime member of the Hejaz Shriner.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Byrd and husband Dennis; two sons, Larry E. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, June 13, 2016 at First Baptist Church Pacolet conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks and Rev. Jeff Dean.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bobby Guyton, O.J. Parris, Steve Parker, Alvin Littlejohn, Michael Millwood, Jordan Spencer, and Parker Sellars.

Visitation will be held 3:00 PM until 3:45 PM Monday afternoon prior to the services at the church.

William E. Hopkins, Sr.

William Edward Hopkins, Sr., 82, loving husband of Sarah Gilbert Hopkins, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 9, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born November 25, 1933 in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late David Brock Hopkins and Eadie Bell Hall Hopkins. He was educated in Darlington County, SC schools, and following a 13-year career with Sonoco Products Company, was self-employed for 24 years.

Although he attended and was actively involved in local churches during his 43-year residency in Union, Mr. Hopkins remained a charter member of First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge, which was founded by his family in 1958.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his son, William Edward “Shot” Hopkins, Jr. of Union; his daughter, Pamela Hopkins Craver and husband Chris of Huntersville, NC; his beloved granddaughter Kate Ellison Craver, also of Huntersville; his sisters, Sharon Hopkins (Terry) Matheny of Florence, SC and Sandra Faye Hopkins of Hartsville, SC; and a brother, David Brock Hopkins, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins was predeceased by a son, Harold Edward “Sonny” Hopkins; a sister, Ida Hopkins; and brothers, David Brantley Hopkins, Theodore Lee Hopkins, LaHarve Hopkins, and Hilliard Reed Hopkins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. David Keith and his staff, Reverend Scott Cobb, Dianne Wilkins, Michele Carter, Sharon Lemmonds, and Deborah Bradburn for their unwavering support and care of Mr. Hopkins and his family during his illness.

Mr. Hopkins will be laid to rest in a private service conducted by Reverend Scott Cobb of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Mr. Franklin Reese Henderson, age 80, husband of Gladys Ham Henderson of 829 Meansville Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, May 14, 1936, a son of the late Leonard and Ruby Wix Henderson. He was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Debbie Workman and husband Dan of Union; three sons, Timothy Wayne Henderson and wife Melody of Georgia, Jeffery Scott Henderson and John Wayne Henderson both of Union; a sister, Lunette Price of Union; two brothers, Jesse “Jet” Henderson and wife Brenda of Union and Laddie Henderson and wife Rachel of Gaffney; grandchildren, Jennifer Westlake, Chris Henderson, Heather Adams, Zach Henderson, Ashley Bright, Allen Bright,  Serina Henderson, Scottie Henderson, and Tiffany Henderson; great-grandchildren: Katie Trapp, Colin Trapp, Carley Trapp, Temperance Westlake, Emma Rae Westlake, L.J. Wilson, Aliyah Wilson, Alexis Wright, Kaydence Chadwick, and Trenton Lindsay. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by three brothers, William “Bill” Henderson, Robert “Darling” Henderson and Zackhary “Tack” Henderson.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM  Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Minister Raymond Climer and Minister Shannon Ham. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Betty Jean Wilson McGowan, age 74, of 3609 Lockhart Hwy., went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 5, 2016.

Mrs. McGowan was born in Charlotte, NC, August 27, 1941, a daughter of the late James and Rose Ray Wilson.  She was a retired business owner and a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend.

Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda M. Gregory and husband Jimmy with whom she made her home; a son Jason McGowan all of Union; two sisters, Rose Marie Reid of Moore and Annette Upton of Spartanburg; a brother, Sandy Wilson of Union; grandchildren: Tyler Gregory, Colby Gregory, Brett Gregory, Owen Gregory, Alexis McGowan, Jazmine Nohl, Brittany McGowan, and Leann McGowan; longtime friends, JoAnn Bobo and Norman Elmer both of Union.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee.

Mr. Hugh F. Gregory, age 82, husband of June Griffith Gregory of 4186 Jonesville Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Gregory was born in Lockhart, June 3, 1934, a son of the late R.N. and Louise Plexico Gregory. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Milliken and Co. Lockhart Mill after 50 years of service.  Mr. Gregory was the last employee of Lockhart Mill and worked until the mill was torn down. After he retired, he went to work for the Town of Lockhart where he was over the Water, Sewer and Grass cutting for the town. Through an anonymous source, a gift was made for the purpose of building a playground for the children of Lockhart, where Mr. Gregory served as overseer and he also built a train for the park. He was an avid woodworker and loved to build things; he could make something out of nothing.

Mr. Gregory was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart where he served two terms as Deacon and had achieved 30 year perfect attendance in Sunday School.  He served 45 years with the Lockhart Fire Dept. where he served as Chief and was a member of the Board of Directors.  Mr. Gregory also served on the Board for Hope Hospital.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Richard Gregory and wife Vickie of Lockhart; two sisters, Frances Young and husband Jerry of Greenwood and Laura Carter and husband George of Spartanburg; a brother, Bobby Gregory and wife Barbara of Boiling Springs; a grandson, Richie Gregory of Spartanburg; five great-grandchildren, Darrell, Alexis, Nevaeh, Austin and Macie; one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Reardon and Cora Jenkins, one brother, Ralph Gregory and a grandson, Robbie Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton and Chaplain Sammy Baine. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be David Jenkins, Keith Reardon, Danny Young, Tony Young, Brian Gregory and Tim Carter. Members of the S.C. Firemen’s Association will serve as the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jessie Meadows Roberts, age 98, formerly of Lockhart, widow of Elmer Roberts, passed away, Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Patterson, GA, March 19, 1918, a daughter of the late Jesse and Alice Dean Meadows.  She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart.  Mrs. Roberts had served her church as a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the WMU and had served as a director of the BTU.

Surviving are three daughters, Jeanene Cook and husband James of Plant City, FL, Jo Ann Latham and Jimmie Ruth Gibson both of Lockhart; two sisters, Betty Baxley of Lockhart and Marion Slease of Flower Mound, TX; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by a son, Nelson Roberts, two sons-in-law, Billy Latham and David Gibson, six sisters, Marie Harper, Catherine Lord, Joan George, Elaine Burkhart, Blanch Meadows and Mary Walker, and three brothers, Claude, Tom, and Miles Meadows.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton and Rev. Don McCutcheon. Burial will be at Philippi Baptist Church.

Mr. Millwood was born in Union, SC March 5, 1965, a son of the late Clyde Millwood, Sr. and Marie McCall Millwood. He was employed with Catawba Plastics in Chester and was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Ava Millwood and Danielle Gregory of Union and Casandra Millwood of Spartanburg; four sons: Troy Millwood of Lockhart, Jason Millwood, Brandon Millwood, Andrew Millwood all of Union; four sisters: Susan Morgan of Laurens, Patsy Millwood Taylor of Carlisle, Rita Terry and Gail Starnes both of Chester and a brother, Clay Millwood of Chester.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 3, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale, Rev. Sam Baine and Rev. Bill Randall.

Visitation will be held in the church following the service.
