Ms. Virginia Elizabeth “Beth” Kirby, age 54 of 100 Hidden Hill Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Kirby was born in Union, February 6, 1961, a daughter of Pearl Smith Kirby of the home and the late Harold W. Kirby, Sr.  She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Winthrop University.  Beth was a member of First Baptist Church and was formerly employed as an executive chef at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

She is survived in addition to her mother, by a brother, Harold Wilson Kirby, Jr. of the home.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Benny Green.

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the services.

James Kenneth Fowler

Mr. James Kenneth “Knotty” Fowler, age 74, husband of Kathy Knox Fowler of 1077 Pineland Rd., Union, passed away Friday June 26, 2014 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Fowler was born in Pacolet, December 5, 1940, a son of the late Leon and Louise Freeman Fowler.  He was retired from Milliken Co., White Stone Packaging Plant and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.  Mr. Fowler was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who also enjoyed shooting pool and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kelly Schlesener of Georgia; four sons, Jamie Fowler and wife Jane, and Marty Fowler all of Pacolet, Cody Fowler and Rodney Lowe and wife Sedne all of Union; a sister, Frances Manus and husband Charles and a brother, Tommy Fowler and wife Sybil all of Pacolet.  Mr. Fowler was also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Imogene Littlejohn Hewitt and an aunt who was reared in the home, Margaret Freeman Sichak.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Riblen and Mr. Robbie Littlejohn. Burial will following in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Fowler, Zach Lowe, Ted Garner, Gene Horne, Michael Wynn, Kenny Harvey, Donnie Wells and Nick Martin.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Lewis Smith Hembree
Enoree, SC


Mr. Lewis Smith Hembree age 77 of 1310 Watson Rd., Enoree, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hembree was born in Enoree, October 11, 1937, a son of the late W.C. and Beulah Smith Hembree. He was a retired auto mechanic and a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Hembree was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a step-daughter, Sue Pelham and husband Dexter of the home; three grandchildren, Malissa Jolly and husband Matt of Spartanburg, Stacy Pelham Addis and Gerald Pelham, Jr. both of Jonesville. Mr. Hembree was predeceased by a sister, Edna Hembree, a brother, William Hembree and a special friend, Myrtle Keith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 29, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Cross Anchor.

Dennis Hugh Sherbert

Mr. Dennis H. Sherbert, age 71, husband of Johnnie Colson Sherbert of 153 Justice Rd., Buffalo, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Sherbert was born in Union, SC December 17, 1943,  a son of the late Dansel Sherbert and Gertrude Lawson Sherbert. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from H.T. Hackney Wholesale Grocery. Mr. Sherbert was employed with the S.C. Department of Corrections, Tyger River Facility. He was an active member of Putman Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-one years are three daughters: Kelly S. Norton and husband Joey of Monticello, Arkansas, Kim S. Lawson and husband Joey of Pauline and Tracy S. Richardson and husband Johnny of El Dorado, Arkansas; a son, Ashley Sherbert of Putman; a sister, Ruby Freeman of Buffalo; ten grandchildren: Brett and Hedi Norton, Travis, Tyler and Joseph Lawson, Ryan and Jordan Richardson, Scarlet, Hailey and Johnathan Sherbert and five great-grandchildren: Ashton, Hunter, MaKayla, Khloe and Emma Kate. Mr. Sherbert was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Sherbert.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson, Rev. Donald Tillman, Rev. Melvin Shelton and Rev. Steven Ragan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Darrell Dean Fowler, age 58, husband of Karen Marvin Fowler of 3296 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Fowler was born in Union, SC December 10, 1956, the only son of C. O’Dean Fowler and Ruby Heatherly Fowler of Union. He was a graduate of Union High School and received his Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics from Spartanburg Technical College. Mr. Fowler worked at BMW in Greer. He was an active member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Henry Thomas Sunday School Class, the Men’s Club, a leader of MYF and also served on the Church Administrative Board. Mr. Fowler was also a member of Union County Motor Sports Association and a Boy Scout Leader.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two loving daughters: Laura Watson and husband Trenton of Ballwin, MO and Beth Thompson and husband Josh of Spartanburg; two grandsons: Caleb Thompson and Simon Watson; two brothers-in-law: Danny Marvin and wife Brenda of Buffalo and Bruce Marvin and wife Linda of Manhattan, KS; a niece, Katie Marvin and two nephews: Wayne Marvin and Erik Marvin. Mr. Fowler was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Johnny Marvin.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Towery. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Harold G. Moss, age 79, husband of Frances McCoy Moss of 125 Gregory Street, Union, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Moss was born in Union, SC October 6, 1935, a son of the late Luther Henry Moss and Agnes Elizabeth Foster Moss. He retired from Conso Products and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of the Ola Jean Kelly Sunday School Class. Mr. Moss was also a member of the Bereavement Team.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: Kenneth Gene Moss and wife Lisa of Cowpens, Brent Lee Moss and wife Stefanie of Union and Lynn Thomas Moss of Moore; a brother, Bobby Moss of Buffalo; four grandchildren: Kelly Baldwin, Payton Moss, Chris Moss and Blaine Moss and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Moss was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Frances Moss, a sister, Carol Dean Smith and two brothers, Johnny Moss and Glenn Henry Moss.

Mrs. Barbara Dabbs Vanderford, age 79, of 4226 Jonesville-Lockhart Hwy., widow of Charles Vanderford, Sr. passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at her home after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Vanderford was born in Lockhart, August 7, 1935, a daughter of the late Hazel Dabbs and Addie Manis Dabbs Burgess. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Conso Products. Mrs. Vanderford was also employed with Medical Regional in Chester and was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Welch of the home; a son, Charles Vanderford, Jr. and wife Susan of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Barbara Dabbs of Summerville; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Vanderford was predeceased by a daughter, Belinda Lou Vanderford and a brother, Harold Dabbs.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be at Lockhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Linda Gayle Gallman Dotson, age 58, of 206 S. Sixth St., Lockhart, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Dotson was born in York, SC on November 8, 1956 a daughter of the late Robert and Sandra Gallman.  She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School.

Surviving are a daughter, Nicole Dotson Rice and husband Bruce Allen Rice, Jr. of Union; a grandson, Shane Rice of Union; a sister, Chris Broome of Lancaster;  a brother, Michael Gallman of York and a special care giver, Frances G. Brannon with whom she made her home.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Lockhart Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Gonzalee Childers.  Visitation will be immediately following the services.

Mrs. Carol Ellison Dawley, age 67, of 1110 Highway 66, Whitmire, widow of Alan Dawley, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Dawley was born in Whitmire, on April 27, 1948 a daughter of the late Quillen and Margaret Connor Brotherton.  She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and retired from Cone Mill—Carlisle Finishing Plant after 30 years.  Mrs. Dawley was a member of God’s Healing Springs Baptist Church where she was a member and served as secretary of the Women’s Auxiliary and was the treasurer of Whitmire Community School Band Booster Club.

Surviving are a son, Ray Ellison and wife Susan; two daughters, Becky Ellison and Crystal Lominick, all of Whitmire; six grandchildren, William Lominick, Alex Ellison, Anna Lominick, Caylee Ellison, Mack Lominick, and Lynlee Thompson; and special friends and neighbors, Judy Duncan, Elsie Vicars Silvers, Eleanor Frye, and Edith Nelson.  She was predeceased by one grandson, Austin Gambrell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2015 at God’s Healing Springs Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Wayne Tobias and Rev. Todd Johnson.  Burial will follow at Whitmire Cemetery.

Mr. Mark Thomas Pettit, Sr., age 59 of 143 Old English Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday June 16, 2015 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Pettit was born in Kalamazoo, MI, January 11, 1956, a son of the late Robert Cleveland Pettit and Rose Adeline Allen Pettit.  He was a 1974 graduate of Parchment High School in Kalamazoo and was formerly employed as a warehouse manager. Mr. Pettit was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Mark Pettit, II of the home, Robert Pettit and wife Jessica of Spartanburg and Timothy Oswalt of Union; a daughter, Miranda Reynolds of the home; a sister, Linda Pettit of Union; three brothers, Steven Pettit and wife Debra, John Pettit and wife Judy and Brian Pettit and wife Elaine all of Michigan; and three grandchildren, Chad Oswalt, Hailey Moxley and Timothy Oswalt, Jr.   Mr. Pettit was predeceased by a son, Chad Pettit and a brother, Richard Pettit.

Mrs. Ramoth Austin O’Shields, age 75, wife of Frank O’Shields, of 625 Old Pump Station Rd., Union, passed away, Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. O’Shields was born in Union, SC on September 24, 1939 a daughter of the late Eddie and Jeanette Humphries Austin.  She was a graduate of Union High School and owned and operated Ramoth’s Beauty Shop.  Mrs. O’Shields was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.  She was a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Scotty Hines and Alan Hines and wife Monica, all of Union; two daughters, Christy Griffin and husband Al and Laura Crisp and husband David all of Buffalo; eight grandchildren, Leslie McCoy and husband Zack, Farrah Wyatt, Alaina Hines, Kateline Palmer, Nick Bledsoe, Isac Bledsoe, Lilah Crisp and A.J. Griffin; and seven great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a daughter Jan Hines, a sister, Marlene Austin, and a brother, Marion Austin.

Ms. Vickie Diane Curtis, age 54, of 206 Youngblood St., Jonesville, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015.

Ms. Curtis was born in Pasadena, TX, April 12, 1961, a daughter of the late Franklin D. Wood and Wanda Morrow Wood.  She is survived by her children; a daughter, Brittni Curtis of Union, two sons, Jason Jones of Florida and James; a step-daughter, Kaylee Froeming of Union; two step-sons, Brad Curtis of Minnesota and Jeremy Curtis of Union and a brother, Danny Wood of Texas. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren including, Aaliyah Curtis and Brayden Ruth.  Ms. Curtis was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer Jones.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.

Iris Waldrep Walker
Greenwood, SC


Iris Waldrep Walker died Tuesday June 16, 2015. She was born April 24, 1925 in Enoree, S.C., to Niles Franklin and Anna Bobo Waldrep.

A graduate of Lander College in 1945, she moved to Union to teach English and Music. It was in Union at Grace United Methodist Church at her first Sunday as pianist that she met the love of her life, a new graduate of West Point, William Allen “Bill” Walker, Jr. They married in 1948 and began a life together that took them from Charlottesville to Los Alamos to Germany and many, many more stops along the way. The quintessential Army officer's wife, Iris supported Bill every step of the way and raised their four children, often on her own while he was away, testing for the National Lab and serving tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam.

Following Bill's retirement after 30 years in the U.S. Army, they settled in El Paso, Texas. Bill died unexpectedly following surgery in 1978. Iris devoted the following decades to her family, rejoicing greatly in the lives of her eight grandchildren. Iris was a dedicated member of her local PEO Chapter. She moved to Wesley Commons in 2004, returning to her native S.C. and spending her final years close to her daughters and her brother and his family. Iris will be remembered for her fierce love of her family, her elegant and gracious manner, and her ever-present interest and care for the lives of those around her.

She is survived by her four children, Susan Walker Edwards (David) of Moncks Corner, S.C., William A. Walker III (Vicki) of El Paso, TX, Anna Mary Walker Forrest (Creighton) of Chapin, S.C., and Tish Walker Szurek (Paul) of Asheville, NC, and her eight grandchildren, Matt Walker (Laura), Joanna Walker Garrison (Trey), Katy Walker Gutierrez (Arthur), Bill Forrest (Kacie), Walker Forrest (Mattison, fiancée), Paul Szurek, Jr., Walker Szurek, and Benjamin Szurek; and her brother Frank Waldrep (Lorene) of Greenwood, S.C.

Her children would like to thank the staff of Wesley Commons for the loving care of their mother during the last years of her life.

There will be a memorial service at Wesley Commons Chapel Saturday June 20, 2015 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity UMC 3209 Hwy 92, Enoree, S.C., 29335.

Mr. James Glenn “Buddy” Mosley, age 81, husband of Matrel Bobo Mosley of 138 49 Loop, Union, passed away Monday June 15, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Mosley was born in Union, April 9, 1934, a son of the late Coley Livingston Mosley and Elminor Hipps Mosley Greene. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken Co., Jackson. Mr. Mosley was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Linda Garner and husband Al of Union; two sons, Vernon Lee Mosley and wife Susie Sellars Mosley of Whitmire and Stanley Mosley and wife Belinda of Union; two sisters, Hazel Swanson and Betty Becknell both of Union; one brother, Larry Joe Mosley and a step-brother, Earl Greene both of Union; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his special pet, Tinsey. Mr. Mosley was predeceased by a brother, Coley Mosley, Jr. and a grandson, Bradley O’Neil Mosley.

Mr. Lewis Marvin Woolen, age 87, widower of Kathleen Jones Woolen of 100 Wingfield Dr., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday June 14, 2015.

Mr. Woolen was born in Union, March 3, 1928, a son of the late Sandy A. Woolen and Willie Pearl Crocker Woolen.  He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Milliken Co., Monarch Plant. Mr. Woolen was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon.  He was an avid softball fan and an excellent player.

Surviving are two daughters, Sheryl W. Crocker and husband David and Jan W. McCallister all of Moore; and a granddaughter, Gina Shipp and husband Allen of Wellford. Mr. Woolen was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Palmer and three brothers, Oren Woolen, Elvin Woolen and Paul Woolen.

Mrs. Rubye Gist Heatherly Howell, age 97, wife of William H. “Bill” Howell of 711 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Ellen Sagar Nusing Home.

Mrs. Howell was born in Union, March 18, 1918, a daughter of the late J.R. and Maggie Lancaster Gist.  She had worked in textiles and in the auto industry in Michigan, where she and her husband made their home until retiring to Union in 1982. Mrs. Howell was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the A.G. Carter Sunday School Class and had volunteered with the Sunday dinners.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Floyd “Stump” Heatherly and wife Linda of Jonesville; a step-daughter, Teresa Upton and husband Marshall of Jonesville; a step-son, Gerald Howell and wife Stacey of Santuc; a sister, Francis Gist of Buffalo; special friend, Dot Gibson of Lockhart; a number of grand and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Howell was predeceased by a daughter, Betty H. Scales, a son, Jim Heatherly, a granddaughter, Melinda Kaye Heatherly, a step-son, Ricky Howell, a step-daughter, Tammy Howell, and three brothers, Barnett Gist, Hay Fant Gist and Carl Gist.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Scales, Kenneth McCraw, Allen Whitener, Billy Scales, Stanley Gallman and Kenneth Horne.

Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 until 2:00PM in the church fellowship hall prior to the services.

The family will be at the home, 711 Pea Ridge Hwy. and at the home of her son, Floyd Heatherly, 542 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. June 13, 2015 at the Saint Phillip Catholic Church. for Earl D. Fallaw, husband of Sylvia Beagley Fallaw who died June 10, in Williamson Medical Center, Franklin Tennessee. 
Born in Union, SC May 7, 1938 along with his twin sister, Pearl, to Arthur and Bertha Bradley Fallaw, he attended the local schools in Union.

Earl was predeceased by his sisters, Mamie May, Virginia Ivey; brothers Randolph and Gene Fallaw. 

Earl was a faithful member of his church where he served his Lord by conducting marriage enrichment forums for couples, serving on financial counting committees, and many other tasks that he was called on to do.

Earl served his country through his career in the United States Air Force for more then 20 years. He was employed by Walmart,Inc as a security agent for many years prior to his full retirement.

Earl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia, his daughter Teresa Ketron (Senator William), son Paul and his great playmate and fishing granddaughter, Kelsey; his twin sister, Pearl Jean Crocker Of Union, and baby brother Weldon (Jane) of Columbia, SC.

Mrs. Ramona McAbee Franks, age 75 wife of Charles Franks, of 500 Wagon Trail, Simpsonville, SC passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Franks was born September 6, 1939 in Greenville, SC a daughter of the late Paul L. McAbee and Betty C. McAbee.  She was a graduate of Union High School.  Mrs. Franks was a member of Simpsonville First Baptist Church and was former member of Buffalo Baptist Church.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Kitty Eubanks Besherse and husband Wade of Florida and Julie Eubanks Marsh and husband Robert of Travelers Rest; a son Joey Darrell Eubanks and wife Karen of Florida; two stepsons, Chuck Franks and Tony Franks, both of Wilmington, NC; a cousin, Barbara Wilburn of Union; two granddaughters, Ashley Besherse of Florida and Kristi Eubanks of Utah; one grandson, JoJo Eubanks of Nevada; one great-granddaughter, Kalie Taliaferro of Florida; one great-grandson, Hendrix Eubanks of Nevada; and twelve step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dan Taylor.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. James T. “J.T.” Gregory, age 69, of 436 Oakland Road, Union, widower of Linda Sprouse Gregory, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Gregory was born in Union, SC on May 10, 1946 a son of the late Baxter and Evelyn Howell Knox.  He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from the City of Union Utility Department as a lineman.  Mr. Gregory was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 75.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Brad Gregory and wife Mary Ann of Union, and Jamie Gregory of Union; a daughter Brooke Baldwin and husband Buck of Union; a stepdaughter, Wendi Foster and husband Mark of Union; a stepson Clint Hutcherson and wife Carmen of Garden City, SC; a sister Renea of Burlington, NC; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Rada Gregory.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, June 12, 2015 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Mark Foster and Chaplin Donna Stroud. 

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Randolph Herman Whitehead

Mr. Randolph Herman Whitehead, age 87, of 4476 Lockhart Hwy, Union, SC passed from this earth and went to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 7, 2015 after a brief illness. He was married to the late Doris Willard Whitehead.

Mr. Whitehead was born February 9, 1928, a son of the late Howard Franklin Whitehead and Evie Pruitt Whitehead. He was a faithful believer in the Bible and in serving the Lord. He previously owned and operated Union Packing Company for many years and had a love of farming.

Mr. Whitehead was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, formerly Westside Baptist Church. He had served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on numerous committees while at Westside Baptist Church and continued to serve while at Crestview Baptist Church. He had a love of music and singing songs of faith.

Mr. Whitehead is survived by two sons: Charles R Whitehead and wife Karen of Pacolet and Robert T. Whitehead and wife Tiffany of Union; two daughters: Beverly W. Woods of Union and Sandra Whitehead of the home; seven grandchildren: Holly Lawson, Harmony Greer, Ryan Whitehead, Ivy Garner, Paige Whitehead, Jessica Woods and Jeremy Woods; nine great-grandchildren: Will, Isaac and John David Lawson, Norah and Brady Greer, Emma and Abby Garner, Makenna Woods and Ava Grace Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead is also survived by sister-in laws: Edna W. Whitehead of Union and Billy Grace Whitehead of Union. He was predeceased by brothers, W.H., Ben, Ed, and Frank and sisters, Minnie Lawson and Ruth Fallaw.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Crestview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman and Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Whitehead, Jeremy Woods, David Lawson, Brad Greer, Hal Garner, John Fallaw, James Whitehead and Tommy Whitehead.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Leroy Shropshire, age 84, husband of Vera Scruggs Shropshire of 829 Duncan ByPass, Union, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 6, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Shropshire was born in Rutherford, NC, a son of the late John Shropshire and Unis Shropshire. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Cecil Business College. Mr. Shropshire retired from Spartanburg Herald Journal after forty-four years of service. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, was a Mason of Masonic Lodge #75 for fifty years and was a Shriner. Mr. Shropshire was a Veteran of the US Air Force having served in the Korean War.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two grandsons: Kevin Shropshire and wife Kelly and Lee Shropshire and wife Lacy and three great-grandchildren: Riley Shropshire, Jasper Shropshire and Sidney Shropshire all of Union. Mr. Shoropshire was predeceased by a son, Michael Kelly Shropshire and a great-granddaughter, Mia Faith Shropshire.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 8, 2015  at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Lee Shropshire, Kevin Shropshire, James Hearn, Ronnie Wade, Jantzen Childers, Tommy Anthony and Don Shetley. The nurses and staff of Blue Ridge Hospice are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held at the home, 829 Duncan ByPass, Union following the committal service.

Mrs. Shirley Boulware Goins, age 75 of 2204 Buffalo-West Springs Hwy, Buffalo, widow of Edward Dean Goins, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

Mrs. Goins was born February 6, 1940, a daughter of the late Buron Boulware and Vera Trammell Boulware. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from United Merchants – Buffalo Plant. Mrs. Goins was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a son, Eddie Goins and wife Lisa of the home; a sister, Genelle Brock of Union; a brother, James Tesner and wife Louise of Union; grandchildren: David Goins and fiancée Jalea Thomas and Brandi Goins and fiancée Josh Redding all of Union; an aunt, Mildred Tipton of Union and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Goins was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Medford and Callie Foster.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 6, 2015 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Aubrey Parks and Rev. Jeff Farmer. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Gibson was born in Union, March 11, 1954, a daughter of the late Dorothy Roark Boulware and William Gibson.  She is survived by numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ricky Cook. Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the services.
