Mr. Johnny Alfred Michaels, age 84, husband
of Helen White Michaels of 2860 Stroup Rd., Clover, passed away
Saturday, June 30, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Michaels was born in Mt. Pleasant, GA,
May 15, 1928, a son of the late Charlie Wilder Michaels and Sarah Davis
Michaels. He was a retired textile worker and was a veteran of the US
Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife are six
daughters: Vivian Chapman of Stanley, NC, Sandra Benfield and husband
Jerry of York, Johnnie Wise and husband Wayne of Lincolnton, NC, Sara
Sipe and husband Jeff of Clover, Debbie Feagin and husband Barry of
Newberry, and Malinda Mitaritonno of the home; one son: Paul Rabb and
wife Trudi of Austria; two sisters: Grace Hullett of Clover and
Geraldine Lewis of Lincolnton, NC; four brothers: Charles Michaels of
York, Leonard Michaels, Roger Michaels, and Harold Michaels all of
Clover; 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday,
July 2, 2012 at the Clover Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in
Bethany Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 12:00 until 2:00 PM
Monday at the church prior to the services.

Mrs. Betty McAbee Blakely, age 83, widow of
John William Blakely, Jr., formerly of Union, passed away Friday, June
29, 2012 at Golden Crest Assisted Living in Stockbridge, GA.
Mrs. Blakely was born Chester, June 16, 1929
a daughter of the late Ezekiel M. McAbee and Eva Lee McAbee. She was a
graduate of Union High School and a member of Grace United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are four daughters: Joan B.
Hardcastle and husband Louis, Charlotte B. Mascaro and husband Bob,
Caroline B. Lee and husband Smitty all of Atlanta, GA and Mary B. Frank
and husband Randall of Norfolk, VA; one sister: Frances Giddens; two
brothers: Mac McAbee and Freddie McAbee all of Union; nine
grandchildren: Eugene William Frank, John Christopher Scarboro, Patricia
Joan Scarpino, Amy Frank-Williams, Benjamin Blakely Scarboro,
LindseyWhite Britt, Floyd Smith Lee, John William Blakely Lee, and Noah
Wyatt Lee; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday,
July 1, 2012 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve
McAbee. Burial will be in Grace United Methodist Church.

grandsons and son-in-laws.

Mr. Curtis L. Nelson, age 85, formerly of 133
Fairbanks St., Jonesville, passed away June 28, 2012 at Magnolia Manor
in Inman.
Mr. Nelson was born in Jonesville, March 5,
1927, a son of the late W.A. Nelson and Dora Clark Nelson. He was a
graduate of Jonesville High School and was a veteran of the US Army
having served in WWII. Mr. Nelson was retired from Gates Rubber, Co. in
Lithonia, GA.
Surviving are a sister: Mary R. Gregory of
Spartanburg and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Nelson was predeceased
by six brothers, Arthur Nelson, Herbert Nelson, George Nelson, J.B.
Nelson, William Nelson and Howard Nelson.
A memorial services will be planned for a
later date.

Mr. Carroll D. Garner, age 76, husband of
Annette Carter Garner of 377 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Union passed away
after a brief illness at Gibbs Cancer Center on Wednesday, June 27,
2012.
Mr. Garner was born in Union, SC on April 17,
1936 a son of the late Aubrey “Bud” and Roxie Harris Garner. He was a
member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Garner was retired
from Duke Energy and had worked with Lockhart Power Company and Cone
Mill’s Carlisle Finishing Plant. He had taught welding at Spartanburg
Technical College. He was a former member of the South Carolina National
Guard.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a
daughter: Lora Garner; two sons: Dean and Les Garner; one sister: Yvonne
Rash and husband Paul; two granddaughters: Farrah and Aubrey Garner, all
of Union; two special pets, Ben and Jennie.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM

June 25, 2012.
Mr. Lawson was born in Union, January 28,
1964, a son of Addie Mae Smith Lawson of the home and the late Lloyd
Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and was a
loving son, husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother
are a son: Mark Lawson and wife April of Union; two step-daughters:
Sonya Sinclair of Buffalo and Shannon Yarbrough of Union; a sister: Kaye
Lawson of Buffalo; three brothers: Earl Lawson, Jerry Lawson, and
Stanley Lawson all of Buffalo; two grandchildren: Kaden and Caylee
Lawson and three step-grandchildren: Amanda Sinclair, Novah Manibusan,
and Matt Yarbrough. Mr. Lawson was predeceased by a grandson: Timothy
Mark Lawson, Jr. and two sisters: Betty Sue Lawson and Sandra Denise
Lawson.

June 29, 2012 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin
Shelton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Gay Rhymer, age 92, husband of Virginia
Gault Rhymer of 146 East Forest Drive, Union, SC died Friday, June 22,
2012 at his home.
Mr. Rhymer was born in Asheville, NC May 1,
1920, a son of the late Z.H. Rhymer and Ella Alexander Rhymer. A US Army
Veteran of World War II, Mr. Rhymer received the Purple Heart for wounds
he received serving his country. He was retired from Cone Mills Carlisle
Finishing plant and of the Baptist Faith.
He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Ronnie
Gault of Union; a grandson: Ron Gault and wife Peggy of Union, and many
nieces and nephews. Mr. Rhymer was predeceased by four brothers and six
sisters.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM
Monday, June 25, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Terry
Mitchell.

Mr. Terry Eugene Heatherly, age 60, of 2570
West Springs Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at
Cleveland County Regional Medical Center in Shelby, NC after a sudden
illness.
Mr. Heatherly was born in Union, April 29,
1952, a son of Rev. Broadus Heatherly and wife Edith of Shelby, NC and
Joann Mathis Norwood of Union. He was a graduate of St. Stephen’s High
School in Berkeley Co. and attended North Greenville College. He was
retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections and was a
member of Jonesville Baptist Church. Mr. Heatherly was very involved in
his children’s activities and was a volunteer in his church and his
community.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a
daughter: Morgan Heatherly, of the home; three sons, Joseph Heatherly of
Lexington, Alex and Cole Heatherly also of the home; two sisters: Cheryl
Billings and husband James of Blacksburg, and Charlotte Sinclaire of
Durham, NC; a sister-in-law: Glenda Adkins of Zionville, NC and several
aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Matthew Thomas
and a brother, Robert Adkins.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Sunday,
June 24, 2012 at West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the
Rev. Ralph Brown.

Mrs. Ferguson was born in Santuc, January 27,
1910, a daughter of Colonel and Julie Stevens. She was a member of the
Greater Union Church.
Surviving are a son: Calvin Nelson and wife
Jean of Easley; three grandchildren: Calvin James Nelson and wife Joyce
of Union, Beth Bartlett and husband David of Asheville, NC and Connie
Francese and husband Ted of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren:

Mr. Mitchell was born in Ft. Mommoth, New
Jersey, January 12, 1962 a son of Betty Dabbs Mitchell of Jonesville and
the late George Mitchell. He member Jonesville Baptist Church and was
previously employed with Holcombe Funeral Home.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother
are two children: a daughter, Jessie Marie Mitchell and a son, William
Howard “Will” Mitchell, Jr., both of the home; a sister Teresa Mitchell
of Jonesville; a brother-in-law, Wallace Whitehead, Jr. of Union; two
nieces: Brittany Mitchell of Jonesville and Amanda Guyton of Boiling

Mr. William Gault “Hot Shot” Farr, age 69,
husband of 51 years to Delores Folsom Farr of 1032 Jonesville- Lockhart
Hwy., Union, passed away, Wednesday, June 19, 2012 at his home after a
long illness.
Mr. Farr was born in Union, July 6, 1942 a
son of the late Willie Hosie Farr and Lenna Gault Farr. He attended
Kelly-Pinckney School and Jonesville High School. Mr. Farr was a retired
business man, having owned Farr’s ABC and L&B Café and Convenience
Store. He was an avid gardener who loved to share his vegetables with
family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a
daughter: Lisa Farr McKaughan and husband Kurt of Columbia; a son:
William Bryan Farr and fiancee Michelle Sinclair of Boiling Springs;
three sisters: Fay F. Webber of Lockhart, Joyce F. Patrick of Union and

Ginny Lawton Braun of 313 Hart St., Union, passed away, Monday, June 18,
2012 at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Braun was born in Detroit, MI, May 11,
1945, a son of the late George and Pat Harrington Braun. He received a
Masters degree in Biology from Emory University and was a veteran of the
US Navy.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two
daughters: Loni B. Johnston and husband Rob of Cornelius, NC and Wendy
L. Braun of the home; one son: Clinton J Braun of Arlington, VA; a
brother: Jeff Braun and wife Lin of Eufaula, AL; a brother-in-law:
Wesley W. Lawton and wife Peggy of Greenville; dear friends, Keith
Johnston and family of Wilson, NC; six grandchildren: Ashton Hayes, Erin

Mr. Greer was born in Union, November 23,
1935, a son of the late William Brian Greer, Sr. and Wilma Murphy Greer.
He was a graduate of Union High School class of 1953, was retired from
Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing Plant and was veteran of the US Air Force.
Mr. Greer was member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he
had served as a Trustee and was awarded Father of the Year in 2008.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a
daughter: Sherry G. Lybrand and husband, Rev. Frank Lybrand of
Spartanburg; two grandchildren: Torey Lybrand of N. Charleston and
Taylor Lybrand of Spartanburg. Mr. Greer was predeceased by a son,

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Grogan Lawson, age 89,
widow of Wallace Bogan Lawson of 542 Meadow Woods Rd., Buffalo, went
home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 15, 2012.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Union Co., November
26, 1922, a daughter of the late Charlie Victor Grogan and Beatrice
Callicutt Grogan. She was retired from Her Majesty Industries and was a
faithful member of Putman Baptist Church. Mrs. Lawson was the last
surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two daughters: Susan Elizabeth
Ward and husband John of Buffalo and Mary Wallace Lawson of the home;
one granddaughter: Lauren Elizabeth Ward of Buffalo; special cousins:
Olin Callicutt and James Callicutt both of Spartanburg; special
children: Andrew Peace, Morgan Peace, Chase Heatherly and Caleb Garner;
a number of nieces and nephews and her special Boston Terrier, Roxy.
Mrs. Lawson was predeceased by two sisters: Myrtle Lawson and Bertie
Knox and two brothers: Horace Grogan and Robert Grogan.

1923, a daughter of the late Frank T. Wade and Janie Shirley Wade. She
retired from Milliken & Co -Ottaray Plant after thirty-five years of
service. Mrs. Hodge was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she
was a member of the Ethel Bailey Circle.
Surviving are a daughter, Jan Hicks; a
grandson, Jeff Hicks; three brothers: Jackie Wade, Tom Wade and William
Wade. Mrs. Hodge was predeceased by three sisters: Ruth Leonhardt, Grace
Baldwin and Jute O’Shields and five brothers: Frank Wade, Jr., Cecil

of Carol Vance Kingsmore of 177 Kingsmore Rd., Union, passed away
Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Kingsmore was born in Union, SC July 5,
1944, a son of Mattie Sue Hyatt Kingsmore of Buffalo and the late Archie
Herrel Kingsmore. He was a graduate of Union High School and Gardner
Webb. Mr. Kingsmore also attended Georgia Southern University and was
retired as owner-operator of Moore Packing. He was a member of Buffalo
Baptist Church where he was a member of the Mens Sunday School Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother
are three sons: Van Kingsmore of the home, Alan Kingsmore of Charlotte,
NC and Ed Kingsmore of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Linda Kingsmore of
Murrells Inlet; a twin brother, Dan Kingsmore of Myrtle Beach; nine

Mrs. Cindy Babb Moore, age 56, wife of Dennis
Moore of 245 Beresford Place, Columbia, SC passed away Monday, June 11,
2012 at Lexington Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with
Leukemia.
Mrs. Moore was born in Union, SC February 17,
1956, a daughter of Janice Mitchell Babb of Buffalo and the late Walker
Babb. She was a graduate of Union High School and the University of
S.C.. Mrs Moore was employed as CFO with the S.C. Office of Rural

Surviving in addition to her husband and
mother are a mother-in-law, Hazel V. Moore of Union; a sister-in-law,
Cathy Boulware and husband Howard of Union; a number of aunts, uncles,
nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by a brother, David Babb;
maternal grandparents, Robert and Louise Sparks; Paternal grandparents,
Herbert and Lillie Mae Babb and a father-in-law, Edward J. Moore.

Old Union Rd., Lockhart Community, Union, passed away Monday, June 11,
2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lemons was the widow
of Franklin Dean Lemons.
Mrs. Lemons was born in Union, SC December 9,
1937, a daughter of the late O.C. Childers and Lillie Mae Lowery
Childers. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from the
SC Department of Corrections. Mrs. Lemons was a member of Lockhart Free
Will Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher of the
Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lemons was also a Wallace Thomson
Hospital Volunteer.
Surviving are a son, Larry Lemons and wife
Louise of Jonesville; a brother, Paul Childers and wife Sarah of
Lockhart; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a
great-great-grandchild.

her home.
Ms. Wilburn was born in Union, SC on June 19,
1942, a daughter of the late Johnnie and Eva Gault Inman. She was
retired from Milliken and Co. – Excelsior Plant and a member of Covenant
Baptist Church.
Ms. Wilburn was survived by two daughters:
Lori W. Sprouse and husband Bob and Cindy W. Arthur, both of Union; two
sisters: Sara Francis Killian of Tennessee and Janice R. Inman
Kilpatrick of Texas; two brothers: Clarence Edward “Bo” Inman of Union
and Gerald Wayne Inman of Texas; six grandchildren, Danny Grady, Erin
Sprouse, Maci Sprouse, James Arthur, Jr., Patty Arthur, and Kayla
Sprouse and two great-grandchildren, Steven and Michael Revis. Mrs.
Wilburn was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Inman Gregory, and two

Mr. Gault was born in Union, SC April 18,
1957, a son of Frances Fowler Gault of Pacolet and the late Murray Buddy
Gault. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was
employed with TieTex.
Surviving are two daughters: Tamela Gault and
Tara Garner both of Union; five brothers: Edward Gault and wife Tammy of

1934, a son of the late Roy Gibson and Elizabeth Gregory Gibson. He was
a graduate of Sharon High School and retired from Milliken & Co. Mr.
Gibson was a member of Bullocks Creek Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three
daughters: Lisa Benvenuti, Wendy Henderson and Jennie Gregory all of
Union; two step-daughters: Tammy Moody and Donna Allen both of Lockhart;
two step-sons: Wayne Allen of Jonesville and Thomas Allen of Sharon;
four sisters: Azalee Ashe, Betty Horton both of Lockhart, Doris Inman
and Lena Ramsey both of Sharon; two brothers: Marvin Gibson of Hickory
Grove and Donald Gibson of Lockhart; eleven grandchildren and a number
of great-grandchildren. Mr. Gibson was predeceased by a grandson, Brad

Mrs. Lillie Mae Lackey Horne, age 86, widow
of D.F. Horne, Jr., formerly of Whitmire passed away Friday, June 8,
2012 at Windsor House Assisted Living.
Mrs. Horne was born in Newberry, SC February
5, 1926, a daughter of the late Elijah Lackey and Estelle Crocker
Lackey. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and was a member of
the former Wesley Methodist Church of Whitmire.
Surviving are four daughters: Mary Waldrop
and husband Robert, Anita Knight and husband William all of Buffalo,
Kathy Rodgers of Jonesville and Bobbie Shytle and husband Gerald of
Inman; two sisters: Stella Elder and husband Rev. Russell Elder and
Nellenne Ernest and husband David all of Pickens; nine grandchildren;
eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; Mrs.
Horne was “Memommy” to many others, not just her grandchildren. She was
predeceased by a grandson, Jerry Shytle and four brothers: David,
Curtis, Martin and John Lackey.

Mrs. Massey was born in Chesnee, May 25,
1939, a daughter of the late James R. Bradley and Maggie Maxie Bradley.
She was a retired cosmetologists and a member of Wesley Chapel United
Methodist Church. Mrs. Massey was also a member of the BPO Elks Does.
Surviving are two daughters: Cheryl Massey
McCutcheon of Union and Wanda Aiken of Chester; three sons: James
William Massey, Michael Eugene Massey and Charles Robin Massey all of
Union; a sister: Sue Taylor of Lockhart; three brothers: George Bradley
of Henritta, NC, Bobby Bradley of Bostic, NC and Earl Bradley of
Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren: Angie Keels, Jody Massey, Petey
McCutcheon, Mica McGovern, Dana Massey, Samantha McCutcheon and Joelle
Massey; and nine great-grandchildren: Trey Keels, Ally Keels, Daniel

Mrs. Allen was born in Union, September 25,
1954, a daughter of the late Otto and Nellie Jacobs Greene. She was
employed as a supervisor with Oats Oil Co. at Aunt M’s Mini-Mart and was
of the Pentecostal faith.
Mrs. Allen was the last surviving member of
her immediate family. Surviving are a daughter: Betsy Henderson and
husband Jonathan of Ft. Bragg, NC. She was predeceased by a sister: Vava
McGowan and a brother: Bernard Greene.

James Calvert Farr
Union, SC
Mr. James Calvert Farr, age 91, husband of
Pearl Adams Farr of 2519 Jonesville Lockhart Hwy, Union, went home to be
with the Lord Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mr. Farr was born in Union, SC January 26,
1921, a son of the late Calvert Farr and Ruth Goings Farr. He was a
graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and attended Clemson University.
Mr. Farr retried as Senior Maintenance Foreman with the South Carolina
Department of Transportation after thirty years of service. He was a
Veteran of the US Army having served in World War II and participated in
the D Day Invasion of France on June 6, 1944. A life long member of Mt.
Joy Baptist Church, Mr. Farr had served as a Deacon, Sunday School
Teacher, Director of Sunday Schools and as a Royal Ambassador Leader.
For over fifty years, Mr. Farr was an active member of the Mt. Joy
Masonic Lodge #203 and was a Past Master. He had served on the Board of
Rocky Creek Water Company since it was founded.
Surviving in addition to his wife Pearl of
sixty-six years are his sister, Marian Harris of Union; several nieces
and nephews including Perry Crocker, Steve Crocker, Ruth Guy, Faye
Harris and Gary Harris. Mr. Farr was predeceased by a sister, Gladys
Crocker, a nephew Chris Crocker and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Adams.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday,
June 8, 2012 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West and
Rev. Lynn Ford. Burial with Military and Masonic Rites will follow at
Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Campbell was born in Rock Hill, April 2,
1937, a son of the late William and Eliza Broome Campbell. He was
retired from Duke Power, Catawba Plant and was a member of Bullock Creek
Presbyterian Church.

daughters: Margaret Queen and husband Allen of Mountain City, GA, Debbie
“Bit” Campbell and husband Leo Harris of Sharon and Tammi Campbell of

Rev. Michael L. Hill, age 52, husband of
Sharon Patterson Hill of 1240 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, went home to be
with his Lord, Friday June 1, 2012, after a sudden illness.
Rev. Hill was born in Gaffney, May 20, 1960 a
son of Theo “Tweet” Bogan Hill of West Springs and the late Plato L.
Hill. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School, attended USC-
Spartanburg, and graduated from Winthrop University. Rev. Hill received
his Master of Divinity from the Jacksonville Theological Seminary.
Rev. Hill was a life long servant of God,
beginning his ministry in Rock Hill where he helped organize a homeless
shelter for women and children. He served the Lord preaching in
Pensacola, FL for fourteen years, where he and his wife founded The Dove
Center, Inc. and continued its concept with Dove Mountain in the Mt.
Lebanon community.
Upon his return to the Union area, he served
as Youth Minister at Sulpher Springs Baptist Church and was currently
serving as Music Director at Trinity Baptist Church where he and his
wife were members. Rev. Hill was also serving as a supply pastor for
several churches in Union Co.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother
are two daughters: Melonie Smothers and husband Mike of Rock Hill and
Penny Eckler of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren: Cole and Micah
Smothers; a brother-in-law: Ralph Patterson and wife Nancy of Pensacola,
FL; special cousin: Al Earnhardt and wife Marie and their daughter, Alee
of West Springs along with several other cousins and dear friends.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum conducted by
Rev. Neil Keisler.
