Mrs. Irene White Gregory, age 91,
widow of E.H. “Mose” Gregory of 106 Harris St., passed away
Monday, June 28, 2010 at Wallace Thompson Hospital after a long
illness.
Mrs. Gregory was born in
Jonesville, August 31, 1918 at daughter of the late Daniel and
Vinnie Willard White. She was a graduate of Jonesville High
School and retired from United Merchants having worked in the
Union and Buffalo Plants. Mrs. Gregory was a member of Duncan
Acres United Methodist Church where she was active in various
phases of the church and had received the 2010 Mother of the
Year Award.
Surviving are a sister: Vera Gault
and husband Carol of Spartanburg; a grand daughter: Kristy
Meadows of Spartanburg; a grand son; Graylin H. Meadows and
friend Renae Parker of Rock Hill; two great-grandchildren: Jon
Meadows and Mary Karen Meadows. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by
a daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Alvin Meadows; two
sisters: Ada Broome and Lena Meek; and three brothers: Jim,
Robert and Coleman White.
Funeral services will be held 2:00
PM Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Duncan Acres United Methodist
Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey. Burial will be in Union
Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 1:00
until 2:00 PM Thursday prior to the service at the church.

Miss Sarah Lucille Meador

Miss Sarah Lucille Meador, age 86
of Union, SC went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 28,
2010 at Oakmont Nursing Home.
Miss Meador was born in the Meador
Home Place, Neal Shoals Rd., Union, SC November 12, 1923. She
was a daughter of the late Judson Felder Meador and Leannie
Carter Meador. A graduate of Union High School, Miss Meador
moved to Charleston, SC where she worked at the US Naval Ship
Yard during World War II. During her employment with the Navy,
she had the privilege of participating in a ship christening
ceremony. Upon returning to Union, Miss Meador worked for Dr. V.
Randolph Hawkins as a dental assistant for twenty years. She
later retired as Director of the Union Emergency Preparedness
Agency. Miss Meador was a faithful member of First Baptist
Church where she was a member of the choir, WMU officer served
in many various capacities of church ministry. A very active
member of the Union Civitan Club for fifty-two years, she was
the first female member of the club and had served as a Past
President, as well as holding other offices in the club.
Miss Meador is survived by a
sister, Evelyn M. Miller and her husband Rev. Dr. Fred Miller of
Columbia; a brother, Felder Meador of Union and numerous nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Miss Meador is
predeceased by four brothers: Melvin Meador, Morris Meador, M.B.
Meador and Judson Meador.
Funeral services will be held 3:00
PM Thursday, July 1, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Union, SC
conducted by Rev. Dr. Fred Miller and Rev. Spencer Ledford.
Burial will follow in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Members of the Union Civitan Club
and Singles Alive Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church
are asked to sit in a group.
Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00
PM Thursday afternoon at First Baptist Church prior to the

Mr. Robert Carlton Puckett, age
86, of 2311 Jonesville Hwy., loving and devoted husband of
Barbara Ford Puckett of 63 years, went home to be with the Lord,
Monday, June 28, 2010.
Mr. Puckett was born in Union, May
13, 1924 a son of the late John Alford Puckett and Minnie
Callahan Puckett. He was a craftsman by trade, having worked in
construction. He retired from the S.C. School for the Deaf and
Blind in 1990 and served on the board of the Bonham Fire Dept.
for many years. Mr. Puckett was a veteran of the US Navy having
served aboard the USS Texas during WWII. He was a faithful
member of Fairforest Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon
and Chairman of the Cemetery Committee for a number of years. He
and his wife Barbara started the Young at Heart Group of the
church. Mr. Puckett loved his Lord, his family, his church, his
country, his neighbors and was devoted to all of them.
Surviving in addition to his wife
are two daughters: Susan P. Hart and husband CT and Patti
LeMaster and husband Harold all of Union; a brother: Donald
Puckett and wife Mae of Union; a sister: Betty Tollison and
husband Lynn of Fort Mill; a sister-in-law: Allene Ford Crocker
and husband Forrest of Union; 5 grandchildren: Tommy Hart and
wife Wendy, David Hart, Alicia Palmer and huband Jesse, Clair
Doar and husband John, and Greta Fuller and husband Stuart; 13
great-grandchilden; one great-great grandchild and several
nieces and nephews. Mr. Puckett was predeceased by a sister
Mattie Laura Owens.

11:00 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Fairforest Baptist Church
conducted by Rev. Allen Gregory, Rev. Stuart Fuller and Rev.
Scott Cobb. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens with
Military Honors.

June 26, 2010 after an extended illness.
Mrs. Rhymer was born in Union, a
daughter of the late Irving Newton and Melle Kelly Newton.
A graduate of Union High School,
Mrs. Rhymer was a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her
husband are a daughter; Kelly and husband Keith Svagr of
Charlotte, NC, a son; Don and his wife Kate of La Canada CA, a

Mrs. Brenda Young Mobley, age 58,
widow of Michael Mobley, of 120 Sardis School House Rd., died,
suddenly at her home, Friday, June 25, 2010.
Mrs. Mobley was born in Union,
January 19, 1952, a daughter of the late Dorothy Young. She was
a graduate of Union High School and previously been employed in
textiles at Milliken Midway Plant. She was a member of Skull
Shoals Baptist Church in Gaffney.
Surviving are a son; Jason Mobley
of the home, a sister Dale Horne (John) of Union, 3
grandchildren; Treaver Mobley and Florinda Fox of the home and
Brandon Mobley of New Jersey, 2 nieces; Penny Deaton and Wendy
Horne, a great neice, Paige Deaton 3 great nephews; Michael
Deaton, Jacob Russell and John Gavin Russell all of Union.

October 2, 1940, a daughter of the late Joseph Allen Shetley and
Marie Self Shetley.

Bright and Barbara Gonzalez; two sons: Joseph Bradley Bright and
wife Felicia and Grover Curtis Bright, Jr and wife Tammy all of
Newberry; a brother, Don Shetley and wife Lillian of Union; nine
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Mrs. Jessie Hand Peterson, age 40,
wife of Danny Peterson of 124 Oakwood Rd., Jonesville, SC died
Tuesday, June 22, 2010.
Mrs Peterson was born in Westerly,
RI March 11, 1970, a daughter of Agnes Hand Jewell and David
Jewell of Gaffney and the late Alvin Jesse Hand. She received
her Bachelor of Science Nursing from University of SC Upstate
and her Masters Education from Walden University. Mrs Peterson
was employed with Wallace Thomson Hospital as a staff nurse with
Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics and Telemetry patients. She also
worked with the OB Department, Emergency Department and served
as circulation supervisor for the hospital. Mrs. Peterson
attended Lockhart United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to her
husband and parents are a son, Hunter Issac Peterson of the
home; two step-daughters: Ashley Daniel Peterson and Brittany
Nichole Peterson of the home; two sisters: Deena Laughlin and
husband Luke and Susan Petty and husband Lewis all of Gaffney;
father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Evelyn Peterson; a
sister-in-law, Jonie Peterson and husband Rusty Huffstetler all
of Blacksburg and several nieces and newphews.
A memorial service will be held
11:00 AM Friday, June 25, 2010 at Lockhart United Methodist
Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz.

Mrs. Lerline Gault “Polly” Haney,
age 93,widow of Horace Haney, formerly of Jonesville, died

Mrs. Haney was born in Union
County, SC May 7, 1917, a daughter of the late George Hoyle
Gault and Hattie Estell Gault Gault. She attended Kelly Pinckney
School; was a homemaker and a member of Foster's Chapel United
Methodist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Merle G
Harvey of Union; a stepson, Hoyt Haney and wife Sis of
Jonesville; a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haney was
predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Michael Randall “Randy”
Gilliam age 39, formerly of Union, husband of Dianna Thompson
Gilliam of 248 Green St., Pacolet, passed away, June 20, 2010 at
his home after a long illness.
Mr. Gilliam was born in
Greenville, December 6, 1970, a son of Michael Randy Gilliam of
Greer and the late Rebecca Jean Lawson Gilliam. He was a 1989
graduate of Union Academy, received his associates degree from
USC and his bachelors degree from Presbyterian College. Mr.
Gilliam had taught school at Union Academy, Newberry Academy and
at Converse College while he was working on his master's degree.
He was a member of Whitmire United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife
and father are a brother: William Hartford Gilliam of York; his
paternal grandfather: Otis Hartford Gilliam of Whitmire; 3 aunts
and numerous cousins.

of Addie Mae Smith Lawson of 2320 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo died
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Lawson was born in Spartanburg
April 19, 1928, a son of the late Larry and Marie Simmons
Lawson. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and a
Veteran of the USArmy having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr.
Lawson retired from Enoree Mills where he worked as a
technician.
Surviving in addition to his wife
is a daughter: Nancy Kaye Lawson of Buffalo; 4 sons: Robert E.
Lawson and wife Wanda, Jerry R. Lawson and wife Patty, Terry M.
Lawson and wife Pam all of Buffalo, and Stanley E. Lawson of the

Mrs. Mary Ann Bobo Harris, age 63,
of 182 Loop Rd. Spartanburg, SC., widow of Leon Theodore Brown
died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Harris was born in Birmingham
Alabama, March 31, 1947 a daughter of the late James Robert Bobo
and Margaret Virginia McAbee Bobo. Mrs. Harris worked for Sam's
Club in Spartanburg. She was an active member of Pentecostals of
Spartanburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher, nursery
worker, and did other various things in the church.
Survivors are two sons: James E.
Harris and wife Sheila, and Randy Scott Brown all of
Spartanburg; a brother: James Ray Bobo and wife Judy of Buffalo;
a sister: Peggy Lee Queen and husband Robert of Buffalo; seven
grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harris was
predeceased by a son Timothy David Harris.
Graveside Services will be held at
11:00 AM Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Union Memorial Gardens, 1720
Whitmire Hwy., Union, SC. 29379, conducted by Rev. Larry W.
Wilkes.

Thomas Lemuel Estes, age 68,
husband of Suellen Estes of Saginaw, Michigan died Monday, May
3, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Estes was born in Union, SC
August 14, 1941, a son of the late Thomas Lemuel Estes and
Margaret Steele Estes. He was a graduate of Union High School
and Presbyterian College. Mr. Estes was a member of St. John's
Episcopal Church in Saginaw, MI and St. George's Episcopal
Church – The Villages, Florida. He was a Past President and
Board Member of Germania; a member of Kiwanis Club, Fordney
Club, Pioneer Club, Saginaw Club, Maple Hill Golf Club and
contributing golfer of the “Littlest Angel”.
Surviving in addition to his wife
are a daughter, Kelly DeVore Estes of Traverse City, MI; a son,
Dr. Samuel Steele Estes and wife Lisa of Dewitt, MI; two
step-sons: Bradley S. Montgomery and wife Marilyn of Saginaw, MI
and Breton Montgomery of St. Louis; grandchildren: Sydney A.

McMahan. She was formerly employed with Milliken Co., Lockhart
Plant and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Union; a great-granddaughter: Rileigh Inglett; two nieces:

Mrs. Chupp was born in Union, May
23, 1939 a daughter of the late Plato and Ellie McCall Pressley.
She was retired from Aunt M's (MiniMart) in Jonesville and had
previously worked in textiles. Mrs. Chupp was a member of the
Whitehall Church of God in Greenwood.
Surviving are four daughters:
Jeannie Christian and husband Jim with whom Mrs. Chupp made her
home in Bradley, Wanda Garner and husband David, Rita Edenfield
and husband Larry, and Karen Phillps and husband Bruce all of
Union; three sons: Darrell Armstrong and wife Ann of Jonesville,
James Armstrong and wife Penny, and Jerry Pruitt all of Union;
three brothers: Tommy Joe Pressley of Phoenix, AZ, J. Harold
Pressley of Seneca and Paul Pressley of Brevard, NC; 14
grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Chupp was predeceaced by a

Born on July 25, 1929, a son of
Oetzel and Cleo Adams Gallman. Mr. Gallman passed away on June
7, 2010 at 5:45 p.m. after a long illness. Surviving are his
wife, Brenda Kirby Gallman, and stepchildren, Reverend Danny
Tapp, Tammy, and Tayna of Mill Springs, N.C. and by his son,
Stan Gallman and his wife, Karen and daughter, Pam Cavender and

are by his first wife, Lucy Harris Gallman Stone of Union.
Mr. Gallman is survived by a brother, Warren Dean Gallman, wife
Betty Jo Gallman and a sister, Della Gallman Gibbs and husband,
Sonny Gibbs. Mr. Gallman is survived by 7 grandchildren.
Services will be held in Mill Springs, North Carolina at the
Bethlehem United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

Mr. Charles Gilliam “Charlie”
Hodge, Sr., age 81, husband of Doris O'Shields Hodge of 207
Lakeside Dr., Union, SC, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, at
Regional Hospice Home of Spartanburg.
Mr. Hodge was born in Union,
September 7, 1928 a son of the late Clarence and Sarah Lawson
Hodge. He was a graduate of Union High School and was an avid
baseball player participating in the Union Textile League. He
was contacted during that time by the Brooklyn Dodgers on three
different occasions to join their team. Mr. Hodge was retired
from Belk's Dept. Store after twenty one years.
An active member of First Baptist
Church, he was a member of the Sam Cain Sunday School Class and
was a former Deacon having been presented the Lifetime Deacon
Award for Faithful service. He was a former member of the S.C.
State Guard and retired as a Sgt. Major from the S.C. National
Guard after forty-one years and seven months of service. A
volunteer for Union Co. Meals on Wheels, Mr. Hodge also served
as a member of the Board for the Dept. of Social Services, the
YMCA and had faithfully served the citizens of Union as a
Council Member from 1970 until 1982. He was a lifetime member of
the Hejaz Shrine Temple and a life time member of the Masonic
Lodge # 375.
Surviving in addition to his wife
of fifty-four years are a daughter: Penny Adamo and husband Tom
of Union; a son: Charles “Chuck” Hodge and wife Cindy of
Spartanburg; six grandchildren: Tyler, Kacie and Kayla Hodge,
Christian Taylor, Andrew and Adelaide Adamo; one great-grandson:
Trevor Hodge. Mr. Hodge was the last surviving member of his
immediate family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00
PM Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the First Baptist Church
conducted by Rev. Robert Emory and Rev. Spencer Ledford. Burial
will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler
Hodge, Christian Taylor Adamo, Andrew Adamo, H.A. “Buck” Vinson,
Eddie Harris, Colby Hawkins and Don Fowler.

Mrs. Helen McAbee Proctor, age 88,
a longtime resident of Union, widow of Eugene Proctor passed
away Monday, June 7, 2010 at Oakmont Residential Center.
Mrs. Proctor was born in
Spartanburg County, SC February 6, 1922, a daughter of the late
Roland McAbee and Lois Brown McAbee. She was a graduate of
Spartanburg High School and a faithful member of Mon Aetna
Baptist Church. Mrs. Proctor retired in 1983 from Milliken & Co.
Monarch Plant.
Mrs. Proctor is survived by two
sons: Dr. Edward Proctor and his wife Joyce of Duluth, GA and
Kenneth Proctor and his wife Tonya of Union; a daughter, Deborah
Scott of Myrtle Beach; a step-daughter, Louise Lever of West
Columbia; a sister, Lula Brashears of Campobello; four
grandchildren: Hailey Proctor of Charlottesville, VA, Blaine
Scott of Korea, Chris Scott of Greenville and Dave Proctor of
Union and four step-grandchildren: Susan Van Koevering, Mary
Frances Thimmesh, Deany Fisher and Danny Fisher all of West
Columbia. Mrs. Proctor was predeceased by three brothers and two
sisters.

10:30 AM Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church
conducted by Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will
follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Dallas Leon Nelson, Sr., age
83, husband of Faye Garner Nelson of 315 Haile St., Jonesville,
passed away, Sunday, June 6, 2010.
Mr. Nelson was born in Jonesville,
November 30, 1926 a son of the late Nathaniel and Marie Foster
Nelson. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and
Robinson's Business College and retired from the US Postal
Service as the Jonesville Postmaster. Mr. Nelson was a veteran
of WWII having served in the US Army and was a retired Chief
Warrant Officer after 20 years with the S.C. National Guard. He
was a past Post Commander of the Jonesville American Legion,a
chairman and past member of the Union Co. Election Commission
and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife
are a son: Dallas L. Nelson, Jr. and wife Donna of Chapin; two
daughters: Cathy N. Orr and husband Kent of Union and Judy N.
Weatherford of Winston Salem, N.C.; one grandson: Nelson Trent
Weatherford and wife Ashley of Wake Forest, NC, and a
great-granddaughter, Holden Weatherford. Mr. Nelson was
predeceased by a son-in-law Billy Weatherford.

Mrs. Janet Ammons Robinson, age
97, formerly of Asheville, widow of Homer Samuel Robinson, died
Friday, June 4, 2010 at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Robinson was a native of
Union, SC, born June 17, 1912 the eldest daughter of the late
Jefferson Curtis Ammons and Mae Gallman Ammons. She graduated
from Union High School and entered nurses training at Mission
Hospital in Asheville. Mrs Robinson retired from St. Joseph's
Hospital 1951. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church
in Union, but was a 67 year resident of Asheville.
Surviving are a daughter: Nancy L.
Brown and husband Buddy of Leicester, NC; a niece: Cindy Carroll
and husband Robbie; a nephew; Chris Ammons and wife Vicki all of
Spartanburg; a great-niece Caty Fullerton; a great-nephew: Luke
Fullerton; two beloved sons: Mark Huntsinger and Phillip
Huntsinger both of Leicester NC.

age 89, formerly of Union, widow of Elliott Earl Fowler, passed
away, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Richard Campbell Veterans
Home in Anderson after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Fowler was born in Wheeling,
W.Va., April 3, 1921, a daughter of Stanley and Della Bagusevec
Oshenska. She was a graduate of Wheeling High School and veteran
WWII having served in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. Mrs. Fowler retired as
secretary with Berry Builder Mart and had previously worked in
the clerical department of Union Mill. She was a member of Mon
Aetna Baptist Church, a member of the V.F.W. and a member of the
B.P.O. Elks Does # 148.
Surviving are a son: Elliott Earl
Fowler, Jr. of Chicago, IL; a grandson: Mike Fowler and wife
Tracey of Union; a granddaughter: Amy Petty and husband Tracy of
Buffalo; great-grandchildren: Christian Petty and Hunter Petty
both of Buffalo, Madison Fowler and Nicolas Fowler both of
Union;

Mr. Claude Daniel Finley, Jr.,
age 86, husband of Mary Padgett Finley of 309 Brookside Dr.,
Union, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Wallace Thomson
Hospital.
Mr. Finley was born in Union,
August 12, 1923, a son of the late Claude Daniel Finley, Sr. and
Anne Burgess Finley. He was a graduate of Union High School and
attended the University of South Carolina and Furman University.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Finley served during WWII. He
began his 40 year career with Arthur State Bank in February of
1950 and retired as Executive Vice-President. Mr. Finley was a
member of Grace United Methodist Church where he had served as
Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. He
had served as Treasurer of the American Legion Post # 22 for
over 50 years and was also a former member of the Union Rotary
Club and former Director and Treasurer for the Union Co. United
Way.
Surviving in addition to his wife
are a daughter: Jane Finley Tate and husband George of
Spartanburg; two granddaughters: Mary Austin Bolin and huband
Robert and their son Will all of Spartanburg and Jane Tate
Snyder and husband William of Charlotte.

Mrs. Sparks was born in Union, SC
August 17, 1916, a daughter of the late Matthew Hampton Hall and
Carrie Bailey Hall. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel
United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sparks was the last surviving
member of her immediate family.
Surviving are three sons: Hay F.
Sparks, Jr and wife Mary of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Glenn A. Sparks,
Sr of Columbia and Bruce Sparks and wife Kay of Union; nine
grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
