Jessie Mae Henderson
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Jessie Mae Warren Henderson, age 83 of 100 Morris Circle, Union, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Union, June 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Jesse and Bernice Harris Warren. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Wofford College. Mrs. Henderson retired from EMMD-Milliken Co. in the payroll department.

Surviving are three daughters, Carla Henderson of the home, Donna Lovelace of Forest City, NC and Wanda Price of Chesnee; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Linda Littlejohn and a dear friend, Joan Davis.  Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by a son, Timothy Wayne Henderson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family will be at the home, 100 Morris Circle, Union.

Marion Anderson Jennings
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Marion Anderson Jennings, age 99, of Union, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019, with her son and daughter-in-law at her bedside.  Marion’s family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to her caregivers who provided Marion with loving care throughout many years and who enabled Marion to remain in her beloved home.

Marion was born on September 30, 1919, in Cortland, New York, to Frank P. Gleason and Grace Fitzgerald Gleason.  She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to graduate from Syracuse University with Phi Beta Kappa honors, and she was elected to Pi Lambda Theta scholastic honor society.  She continued her education with graduate studies at Cornell University, and she received her Master of Teaching degree from Converse College.  

Marion served on the faculty at Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and also at Cardinal Newman High School and Hammond Academy, both in Columbia, South Carolina.  Later, Marion became a successful real estate sales agent in Union, South Carolina.  

Marion was married in 1943 to Clarence E. Anderson (Bill) of Seneca, South Carolina, with whom she had four children.  He died in 1965 while pursuing a successful career at Milliken Textile Company in Union, South Carolina. Marion was remarried in 1988 to Larkin H. Jennings, Jr., an attorney in Union, South Carolina.

Marion was a member of the Union Cotillion Club, the Union Junior Charity League, the Criterion Club, the Women’s Study Club, the Junior Book Club, and the Monday Book Club, all of Union, South Carolina, and the Home and Garden Club of Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Marion served as both a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader in Union, South Carolina. Marion was a long-standing member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Union, South Carolina.  

Marion is survived by her two sons, William E. Anderson (Bill) and his wife Jo Ann, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Thomas G. Anderson (Tom) and his wife Mary, of Inman, South Carolina.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jane Orahood Anderson, of Atlanta, Georgia. Marion is also survived by her granddaughter, Mary Katherine Anderson (Katie), of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and her great grandson, Finley Mark Anderson, of Gorey, Ireland.  

Marion was predeceased by her husband, Clarence E. Anderson (Bill), of Union, South Carolina, and her second husband, Larkin H. Jennings, Jr., of Union, South Carolina.  She was also predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Anderson Hishon (Betsy), of Atlanta, Georgia, her son, David Mark Anderson (Mark), of Atlanta, Georgia, and her grandson, William E. Anderson, Jr., (Billy), of Gorey, Ireland.

A funeral mass celebrating Marion’s life will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29302.  The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service at the Piedmont Club, 361 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29302.

Robert Leroy Burgess

Mr. Robert Leroy Burgess, age 79, husband of Ada Williford Burgess of 135 Alice Lane, Union, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Burgess was born in Union, February 28, 1940, a son of the late Judson Burgess and Bertie Mae Lipsey Burgess Fowler.  He was a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Debra Lynn Dixon and husband Harold of Kings Mountain, NC; a son, Robert Allen Burgess of Hickory, NC; two step-daughters, Tracy Riley Harris and husband Harold of Union and Teresa Riley of Kings Mountain, NC; a sister, Ella Mae Worley of Sanford, NC and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Mr. Burgess was predeceased by two sisters, one brother and a step-daughter, Lisa Riley.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Friday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Memorials may be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959.

The family will be at the home, 135 Alice Lane, Union.

Jesse L. Blitchington, Sr.

Mr. Jesse L. Blitchington, Sr., age 91, formally of Union, widower of Valerie Varner Biltchington went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Woodbridge Senior Living in Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Blitchington was born January 30, 1928 a son of the late James and Doshia Prather Blitchington.  He was retired from textiles and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.     

Mr. Blitchington was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are a daughter, Mary B. Lawson and husband, Wendell and a son, Jesse Lee Blitchingon, Jr. all of Union; a number of Nieces and Nephews; six sisters-in-law, Carol Stepp, Vera Beck both of North Augusta, SC, Faith Edland of Greer, Evelyn Brown, Lillie Kirby and Linda Bishop all of Union and brother-in-law, R.P. Varner.  He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Mary Sox and Lillian Thompson.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, July 15, 2019 at Fairview Baptist Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Ross Wilson. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 in the Fellowship hall at the church prior to the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Union, SC. 29379.

The family is at their respective homes.

June Haney Hawkins

Mrs. June Haney Hawkins, age 64, wife of Mike Hawkins, Sr. of 1713 Union Blvd., passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Union, April 2, 1955, a daughter of the late J.D. Haney and Peggy Petty Haney Ray.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Conso Products.  Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, William Michael Hawkins, Jr. and wife Shelly and Jeffrey D. Hawkins; two sisters, Cindy Burnett and husband Dan and Lawayne Anderson and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Justin Smith, Jessica Smith, Dylan Hawkins, Erik Hawkins and Madison Hawkins; two nephews, Jared Anderson and wife Brooke and Jace Anderson and numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jace Anderson, Jared Anderson, Ermy Wilson, Mike Austin, Craig Price, Allen Petty and Erik Hawkins.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 Saturday at the church prior to the services.

The family will be at the home, 1713 Union Blvd., Union.

Carol Hicks Greer
Union, SC


Mrs. Carol Hicks Greer, age 83, widow of William Brian Greer, Jr. passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Greer was born December 20, 1935 in Union, a daughter of the late Aubrey Hicks and Mary Wright Hicks.  She was a graduate of Union High School and Forrest Business College.  Mrs. Greer retired as a Beautician.  She was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Lybrand and husband Frank of Beaufort; and two grandchildren, Torey Lybrand Reed of Conway and Taylor Lybrand of Columbia.  She was predeceased by a son, Craig Greer and two brothers, Charles Hicks and Robert Hicks.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz and Rev. Frank Lybrand.  Visitation will be held immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Joseph Matthew Chibbaro
Union, SC


Joseph Matthew Chibbaro passed away on July 5, 2019 at the age of 79 years. Joe is the son of Matthew and Julia Chibbaro.  A native of New Jersey, Joe received his bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University and earned a master’s degree in education from Temple University.  Joe served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves.

Joe enjoyed a career in education that spanned over 30 years, first as an educator, working his way up to School Administrator for East Windsor School District. Joe was passionate about offering an exceptional education to the students he cared so much about.

Following his years in the education system, Joe retired to Union, South Carolina where he enjoyed many years of happiness on his beloved horse farm with his wife Virginia.

Joe is survived by his wife Virginia, his stepdaughter Carla Harbourt, her husband Harry and his grandchildren Nina and William Harbourt. His stepson Derek Nelson, his wife Molly and his grandchildren Mitchell and Alan. Brother and sisters Robert Chibbaro, Julie Shedlock, Patricia Wolfe, Anne Chibbaro, Ginny Olsen and is predeceased by his sister Tina Iwanski. Joe also has two children from a previous marriage.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 5:00 pm, July 19 at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church 120 Cane Creek Church Road in Union, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Joe’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Mark Edward “Eddie” Bailey

Mr. Mark Edward “Eddie” Bailey, age 66, husband of Cathy Henderson Bailey of 113 Old Shetley Place, Union, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Bailey was born January 16, 1953 in Union, a son of the late Frank Bailey and Estelle Bates Bailey.  He was a retired textile worker.  Mr. Bailey’s greatest accomplishment was being married to his wife Cathy Henderson Bailey for 47 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, a sister-in-law, Terrie Montgomery of Union; a nephew, John Montgomery of Union; a granddaughter, Courtney Henderson of Union; and a cousin, David Crocker of Woodruff.  He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Prince.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, July 12, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel. 

Members of the Rooke Card Group are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held immediately following the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

William Herman Crocker

William Herman Crocker, 97, of 1508 Berry Farm Road, Union, widower of Dorothy Henson Crocker, died July 3, 2019, after an extended illness.

Mr. Crocker was a son of the late Robert and Inez Pressley Crocker and a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher for many years.  A veteran of World War II, Mr. Crocker owned and operated a dairy farm in the Santuck community where he also served on the Santuck Hebron Water Company committee. 

Mr. Crocker is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Terry Comer of Matthews, NC, and June and Edward Farr of Prosperity, SC; one granddaughter, Claire Craig (Andrew) of Charlotte, NC; three grandsons, Andy Farr (Devin) of Union, SC, Chris Farr (Brynley) of Chapin, SC, and Cameron Farr of Prosperity, SC; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Elise Craig, and three great-grandsons, WH Farr, Jack Farr and Christopher Farr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge. Burial with Military Honors will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Evans Crocker, Tom Crocker, Tyler Crocker, Hope Garner, George Goings and Steve Koskela.

The following are asked to sit as a group:  past and present board members of Santuck Hebron Water Company and honorary pallbearers; Ned Bell, Norris Fowler, John Neely Pressley, Kirk Pressley and Tom Brown Pressley.

Mrs. Patty Henderson Brown, age 60, of 221 E. Main St., Union, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Brown was born in Union, October 12, 1958, a daughter of the late Elbert Glenn Henderson and Lillie Mae Harkins Henderson.  She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle of God Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Misty Brown McAbee of Oregon and Kerry Lynn Brown and husband MaQuiese Jones of Union; a special son Jesse Belue of Spartanburg; a sister, Cheryl Belue and husband Dwight of Moore; a brother, Larry Henderson of Union; five grandchildren, Haley McDade, Jadyn McAbee, Connor McAbee, Jackson Brown, and Mason McAbee and several loving cousins, nieces and a nephew.  Mrs. Brown was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Henderson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 and details will be announced by the family.

Mrs. Ann Wilson Crawford, age 78, wife of Donald Crawford of 1023 Meansville Rd., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

Mrs. Crawford was born in Union, October 1, 1940, a daughter of the late Wallace and Sara Koon Wilson.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Milliken and Co., Cedar Hill Plant after 35 years. Mrs. Crawford attended Beulah Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Becky Compton and husband Tim of the home; a son, Donnie Crawford and wife Debbie of Buffalo; a sister, Edith Faucette and husband Harold of Aiken; three brothers, Evans Wilson of Union, George Wilson and wife Karen of Moore and Charles Wilson and wife Karen of Greenwood; six grandchildren: Nikki Cohen, Jamie Cohen and wife Shanna, Brandon Cudd, Katie Marvin, Jennifer Compton, and Rebecca Compton; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Foster, Abby Jenkins, Matthew Troy Cohen and Liliana Cohen. Mrs. Crawford was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Matthew Cohen; two sisters, Elizabeth Bobo and Jane Bobo; and three brothers, Albert Wilson, Sam Wilson, and Ernest Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Bill Randall, Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Bob Catoe. Burial will be at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Moore, Joe Moore, Jimmy Sykes, Sammy Wilson, Frank Bobo, Jr., and Jamie Cohen.
