Wanda Mae Davis Brock

Mrs. Wanda Mae Davis Brock, age 63, wife of Jimmy Rochelle Brock of 151 Mudbridge Rd., Buffalo, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Brock was born in Union SC August 25, 1952, a daughter of the late Fred James Davis, Sr. and Darnelle Deputy Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sisters: Thelma Bledsoe and husband David of Buffalo and Shirley Turner of Chesnee; three brothers: Roy Davis and wife Alice of Union, Fred James Davis, Jr and wife Sherry of Laurens and Jerry Wayne Davis and wife Kay of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brock was predeceased by a son, Christopher Wayne Davis, a sister, Flora Jean Haney and two brothers, James Robert Davis and Kenneth Wayne Davis.

A  Memorial graveside service will be held at a later date. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Hospice Care of South Carolina for their care of Mrs. Brock.

Ralph Douglas Duncan

Mr. Ralph Douglas Duncan, age 69, husband of Mary Pharr Duncan of 114 Meng Creek Road, Union, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Duncan was born in Greenville, SC February 10, 1947, a son of the late Mac Daniel Duncan and Iva Pearl Smith Duncan. He was a graduate of Union High School and was a retired textile worker. Mr. Duncan was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Jill Duncan of the home; two grandchildren: Nevaeh Beacham and Jordyn Crawford both of Union; a brother, Raymond Duncan and wife Bessie; a nephew, Jamie Smith and wife Connie all of Union. Mr. Duncan was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Estes and Mary Louise Sprouse and a brother, Billy Joe Duncan.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.

Elizabeth Ann Stepp Adams
Columbia, SC


Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Stepp Adams, widow of Grey Adams, passed away at her home July 27, 2016.

Libby, as she was known by friends and family, was born in Marion, NC December 3, 1927, a daughter of the late John and Florence Pendergrass Stepp. She attended Winthrop College and came to Clemson to work for J.P. Stevens. While in Clemson she met Grey Adams who was an ROTC instructor for the college. After marring, they spent many years in the USAF and traveled extensively. Upon retirement they made their home in Columbia. Libby became involved with Workshop Theater of S.C. and made many lasting friendships. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and remained active as long as she was able, but never lost her excitement for life.

Libby was predeceased by her husband, a son, Steven and two brothers, Dr. James Stepp and Dr. Hubert Stepp. The last member of her immediate family, she is survived by her nephews Jim Stepp of Union, John Stepp of Clemson, Ken Stepp of Kentucky and Ben Stepp of Greer and her many Workshop friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make a gift in memory of Libby are encouraged to donate to the Workshop Theater of S.C.


Marjorie T. Ivey

Mrs. Marjorie Trent Ivey, age 92, of 758 Brown’s Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Ivey was born in Union, April 13, 1924, a daughter of the late William Jesse Trent, Sr. and Alice Stepp Trent.  She was a homemaker and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Petey Ivey and wife Jeri and their son, Trent Ivey all of Union. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ivey Prince and her husband William Prince and is survived by their children; Bonnie Prince and her children, Casey Alman, Charlene Alman and Willy Alman; and Will Prince and wife Katie and their children, Dakota Prince and Willow Prince. She is also survived by a dear friend, Marion Estes. Mrs. Ivey was also predeceased by three sister, Iona Trent Alverson, Cora Trent Farr and Elsie Trent Treadway; and one brother, W.J. Trent Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. John Lee.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.


Lula Austin Fowler

Mrs. Lula Lavern Austin Fowler, age 71, 905 Lover’s Lane Rd., Union, widow of Woodrow “Fuzz” Fowler, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Union, November 26, 1944, a daughter of the late Kate Austin Todd and stepfather, Hoytt Todd. She was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are a brother, W.S. Austin; a daughter-in-law, Jill Fowler Maness; two granddaughter, Alexis Fowler and Allison Fowler all of Union; special friends, Annette Taggart, Jimmy Todd and John Ingle and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by a son, Jerry Wayne Fowler, a sister, Josephine Todd, and three brothers, Billy, George, and Fred Austin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Walter Holcombe. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Todd, Steve Austin, Gage Austin, Kaden Austin, Bryan Jarrett and Justin Beheler.

Members of the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class of Ottaray Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the services.

Mrs. Tammy Rector Tilley, age 54, wife of Randall Tilley of 267 Elford Grove Rd., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Tilley was born in Union, SC  August 23, 1961, a daughter of the late Earl Gault Rector and Avonelle Lipsey Rector. She was formerly employed with Fast Phils in Jonesville and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kayla Edwards of Union; a son, Rodney Woody and fiancé Angie Baldwin of Jonesville; a step-daughter, Kailey Nicole Tilley of Rocksboro, NC; a step-son, Randall Kevin Tilley, II and wife Stephanie of Mooresville, NC; a sister, Vickie Alexander and husband Dean of Jonesville; a brother, Gene Rector of Union; six grandchildren: Draden Edwards, Kaylee Woody, Danielle Woody, Kyleigh Woody, Elizabeth Woody and Bryson Horne and seven other step-grandchildren. Mrs. Tilley was predeceased by a sister, Jan Cooper and a brother, Steve Rector.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Friday, July 29, 2016 at Oakbrook Community Church conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess and Rev. Scott Cannon. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Alan Rector, Jason Rector, Darrell Roberts, David Richardson, Robbie Hames, John Young, Mike Cooper and Travis Harris.

Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday evening at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Virginia Louise ‘Jenny’ Phillips

Mrs. Virginia Louise “Jenny” Phillips, age 34, wife of Michael Greer of 525 Bishop Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Bradenton Co., FL, May 29, 1982 a daughter of the late Jemmi Carol Martin Lehman. She was a member Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Savannah Greer, of the home; two sons, Wyatt Greer of the home and Brent Lawson of Union; one aunt, Susan Ridings of Union. 

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Carrol Caldwell.

Mr. Ronnie Edward Lipsey, Jr., age 47 of 328 Spencer Rd., Jonesville, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016.

Mr. Lipsey was born in Union, July 25, 1968, a son of Diane Fowler Taus and husband Victor of Union and the late Ronnie E. Lipsey, Sr. He was a self-employed carpenter and attended Oakbrook Community Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Eric S. Taus and wife Rebecca and their daughter Savannah all of Greer. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Lipsey was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Argil and Boogie Sumner and his paternal grandparents, Mae Pearl and Willie Lipsey.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, July 25, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Active pallbearers will be Trey Harris, Michael Harris, Bo O’Dell, George Carpenter, Greg Sanford, Kevin Fowler and Judson Lawson.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 4:00 Monday at the funeral home prior to the services.

Leann Pettit
Inman, SC


Ms. Leann Pettit, age 64, formerly of Orlando, FL, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Ms. Pettit was born in Orlando, January 6, 1952, a daughter of the late Dexter Pettit and Johann Hall. She is survived by a daughter, Adriann Michelle Pettit Dillard and fiancée Chris Austin of Union and Chris’s mother and step-father, Doris and Mitch Rogers also of Union.

A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Francis Dudley “Fran” McGowan, Sr.

Mr. Francis Dudley “Fran” McGowan, Sr., age 82 of 603 N. Pinckney St., Union, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McGowan was born in Union, July 23, 1933, a son of the late Arthur and Ada Sprouse McGowan. He was a retired business owner and a veteran of the US Marine Corp having served in the Korean War.  Mr. McGowan was a former member of the Union Moose Lodge.

Surviving are three sons, Francis Dudley McGowan, Jr. and wife Sherry of Union, Michael Ray McGowan of the home, and Jason Michael McGowan of Union; a daughter, Rhonda M. Gregory of Union; a special friend, Tammy Dickard of the home; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. McGowan was predeceased by two daughters, Peggy Wallace and Janet Northern, two grandchildren, Benjamin Mashburn and Kacie Taylor and an infant great-granddaughter.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Hawkins Family Cemetery conducted by Rev. Scott Cobb.

Mr. McGowan will be carried to the home, 603 N. Pinckney St., Union, on Tuesday where the family will receive friends. Visitation will also be held at the cemetery following the services.

Donnis Eaves Knox

Mrs. Donnis Eaves Knox, age 72 wife of Weldon “Dunnie” Knox, Jr., of 334 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville passed away Thursday July 18, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Knox was born in Union, SC on April 23, 1944 a daughter of the late Mardis Honary Eaves and Pearl Gault Eaves.  She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from Union High School.  Mrs. Knox was an active member of Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a Co-Chairperson of the Worship Committee, Co-Chairperson of Family Life, a Church Board of Trustees, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Worship Committee, and the Flowers and Paraments Committee.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Tracie Knox McKelvey of Pacolet; a son, Troy Knox of Jonesville; one granddaughter, Kayla Knox of Union; one grandson, Dustin McKelvey of Pacolet; five sisters, Ollie Chambers of Greer, Waleanor Kirby of Union, Judy Bright and husband J.D. of Union, Miriam Gregory of Jonesville, and Marilyn Sicay and husband George of Virginia; and three brothers, Lawrence “Buddy” Eaves of Union, James “Cotton” Eaves and wife Emily, and Wayne Eaves and wife Virginia.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Myrtle Kelly and Maynelle Jennings and two brothers, Tom Eaves and Kenneth “Pinto” Eaves.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Michael Walker, Rev. Glenn Ribelin, and Rev. Larry Hyder.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Kirby, Doran Eaves, Derrill Eaves, James Bright, Jeffrey Bright, Tim Gregroy, Dallas Sicay, and Kenny Jennings.  The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers, John Young, Bo Ham, Albert Smith, Toney Farr, and Kenneth Adams.

Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” Gault
Jonesville, SC


Mr. Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” Gault, age 53, husband of Dawn Bentley Gault of 168 Rogerstown Rd., Jonesville, passed away Monday July 18, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Gault was born in Union SC on November 8, 1962 a son of Brenda Kirby Parkins and husband Jimmy of Jonesville and the late Charles Gault.  He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and received his Machinist Degree from Spartanburg Community College.  Mr. Gault was employed with Milliken and Co.—Cedar Hill Plant and was formerly employed with Exopack in Spartanburg.   He was a member of Gilead Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #139 and was a Shriner.  Mr. Gault was an avid outdoorsman but especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Joshua Gault and wife Blair and Wesley Gault and wife Kayla all of Jonesville; one grandson, Aiden Gault; a beloved dog, Chester and numerous aunts and uncles.  He was predeceased by one sister, Crystal Parkins; one brother, Jimmy Lee Parkins, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Homer and Nannie Kirby; and paternal grandparents, Cecil and Mamie Gault.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon and Rev. Mike Scales. Burial will follow at Jonesville Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers will be Dean Robinson, Keith Fowler, Dennis Kirby, Kegan Roberts, Mitch Morris, and Tommy Blackwood.  The following are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers, Joe Gault, Phil Kirby, and Michael Brewington.

Mrs. Lillian Stafford Crawford, age 75 of 211 Bryant Rd., Pacolet, widow of James Robert Crawford, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Crawford was born in Spartanburg, SC April 20, 1941, a daughter of the late Joseph Homer Stafford and Rose Lee Miller Stafford. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church in Shelby, NC.

Surviving are a daughter, Belinda Buice of Jonesville; a son, Dale Crawford and wife Sue of Woodruff; a sister, Carolyn Beard of Pacolet; two brothers: Robert Stafford of Pacolet and Buddy Stafford of Spartanburg; a special friend, Craig Lowe of the home; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Crawford was predeceased by two sons, Jackson Allen Crawford and Billy Joe Crawford and brothers, Jack, Tom, Andrew, Troy Lee and Ernest Stafford.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 17, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Leon Brown. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Crawford’s grandsons, great-grandsons and nephew will serve as active pallbearers . Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Buice and Dustin Beard.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday in the chapel prior to the service.

Joseph Scott Crocker

Mr. Joseph Scott “Joe” Crocker, age 54 of 508 Hart Street, Union, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mr. Crocker was born in Union, SC August 28, 1961, a son of the late Ralph S. Crocker and Dorothy Adams Crocker. He was a graduate of Union High School and was employed with Wilkes Logging Company. Mr. Crocker was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Kayla Reid of Myrtle Beach; a son, Kyle Reid and wife Tiffany of Union; two grandchildren: Gracie Reid of Myrtle Beach and Kyleigh Reid of Union; two sisters: Jane Jones and husband Dean of Union and Joyce Broome and husband Tommy of Union and a brother, Jim Crocker and wife Karen of Union. Mr. Crocker was predeceased by a brother, Butch Crocker.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Salem Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke.

Visitation will be held at the church immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

James F. Turner

Mr. James F. Turner, age 83 of 215 Belvue Dr., Union, widower of Laura Ann Laxton Turner passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Turner was born in Rutherfordton, NC on October 27, 1932 a son of the late Robert Earl Turner and Olar Kimbrell Turner.  He was a graduate of Cross Keys High School and had retired from Independent Life Insurance Company.  Mr. Turner was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Defense having served in the Korean Conflict.  He was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church where he had previously served as chairman of the Deacons, a member of the choir, and was a part of the Hebron Brotherhood. 

Surviving are three sons, John Earl Turner of the home, Anthony Wayne Turner and wife Lauren of Union, and David Scott Turner of Union; four grandchildren, Brittney Turner, Kimberly Turner, Jennifer Turner, and Jada Turner; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leland Turner and wife Lavenia of Spartanburg and Furman Turner and wife Carol of Gaffney; two sisters, Esther Hutchins of Spartanburg and Ruth Hutchins of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Turner was predeceased by one son, James Michael Turner and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday July 17, 2016 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brian Childers and Rev. Jerry Ford.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Gary Switzer Hamm, age 78, husband of Jerry Hamm of 106 Jenkins St., Union, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mr. Hamm was born in Union on August 25, 1937 a son of the late Jesse Ham, Sr. and Anna Martin Ham.  He was a graduate of Union High School and had retired from Life of Georgia Insurance.  Mr. Hamm was a member of the Union Church of Christ.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years are three sons, Scott Hamm and wife Carol of Union, Steve Hamm and wife Rita of Greensboro, NC, and Greg Hamm of Chapin, SC; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Union Church of Christ conducted by Mr. Raymond Climer and Mr. David Foster. Burial will be private.

Active pallbearers will be, Adam Gregory, David Gregory, Mitchell Hamm, Todd Hamm, Jeff Newton, Clarence Sanders, and Will Sexton.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM Friday prior to the services at the church.

Mrs. Martha Hemphill Lybrand, age 95, of Clinton, SC, widow of James Bernard Lybrand, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Columbia, SC.

Mrs. Lybrand was born in Greenville, SC on January 11, 1921, a daughter of the late Claude M. Hemphill and Annie Wilson Hemphill of Greer, SC.   She was a graduate of Lander College in Greenwood and was retired from the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs as a Client Specialist with Whitten Center in Clinton.  Mrs. Lybrand was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Clinton, SC where she was a former member of the choir. 

Surviving are one daughter, Anna Lybrand Boyle of Columbia, SC; one son, James Bernard Lybrand, Jr. and wife Julie of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Adrienne B. Whaley of Isle of Palms, SC; Anna Lynn Sproehnle of Apex, NC; Leigh Ellen Lybrand Gray of Charleston, SC and Boston, Mass.; Rebecca Lybrand Alpert of Columbia, Mo.; and Laura Margaret Lybrand of Columbia, SC and five great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July, 14, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church in Jonesville, SC conducted by the Rev. Rex Wilson, Jr. of Columbia.

Ms. Frances Marie Porta, age 73 of 515 Chesnut Knob Rd., Boone, NC, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 at her home.

Ms. Porta was born in Detroit, MI September 26, 1942, a daughter of the late Vito S. Porta and Rose Catherine Palazzalo. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of St Augustine Catholic Church.

Surviving are two sons, Anthony Benvenuti and Dana Benvenuti both of Union; three daughters: Deborah Widener of Aiken, Gina Brown of Whitmire and Julie Laws of Union; a brother, Vito Porta of FL; sixteen grandchildren: Travis Gibson, Tana Bobo, Christina Thomas, Monty Paschall, Jr, Amy Lasher, Sean Paschall, Jason Pruitt, Bradley Pruitt, Mary Benvenuti, Ricky Benvenuti, Scott Laws, Jr., Caleb Benvenuti, Calen Benvenuti, Cathline Benvenuti, Catherine Benvenuti and Lana Benvenuti and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church conducted by Father Michael McCafforty. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Josh Freeman.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday evening at SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Ms. Porta’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Mr. John Carroll Morris, Sr, age 86 of Jonesville, widower of Geraldine Motts Morris, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Rosecrest in Inman.

Mr. Morris was born in South Carolina August 30, 1929, a son of the late Pierce Morris and Myrtle Reeves Morris. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was self-employed.

Mr. Morris was a faithful member of Gilead Baptist Church where he served in various capacities. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving are a daughter, Harriet M. Porter (Steve) of Boiling Springs; three sons: John Carroll Morris, Jr of Jonesville, Roger Eugene Morris (Judy) of Mooresboro, NC and Terry L. Morris (Carole) of Pacolet; a brother, Dean Morris of Jonesville; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Morris was predeceased by a grandchild, Phillip Porter, a sister, Rachel Bobo, four brothers, Charles, Frank, Don and Grayson Morris.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, July 8, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon and Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00 PM Friday in the church prior to the service.

Mr. Walter “Daddy 0” Faulks, Jr of 112 Poinsett Street, Union, widower of Johnnie Ruth Austin Faulks, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Faulks was born in Spartanburg County, September 30, 1940, a son of the late Dewey Walter Faulks, Sr and Mary Bell Faulks. He retired from Milliken & Co. Monarch Plant and Cedar Hill Plant. Mr. Faulks was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are a daughter, Marie English and husband Joey; two sons: David Faulks and wife Lisa and Joey Faulks and girlfriend Gail Moore all of Union; two sisters: Juanita Johnson and Sarah Greene both of Union; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a special friend, Beverly Jennings. Mr. Faulks was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmy and James Faulks.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. Aulbrey Calvert.

Visitation will be held at the cemetery immediately following the service

Ms. Tammy Everhart Murphy, age 53 of Chesnee passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 in Sevierville, TN, after a sudden illness.

Ms. Murphy was born in Winston-Salem, NC, April 3, 1963, a daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn N. Wright. She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College.  Ms. Murphy formerly worked as a cosmetologist and volunteered as an interpreter for the S.C. School for the Deaf and Blind.

Surviving are her fiancée, Wade Jones of the home; two sons, Shawn Everhart of Buffalo and Dalton Murphy and wife Summer of Union; a step-son, Patrick Kyle Jones of Jonesville; two sisters, Sherry Smith of Roebuck and Evelyn Wright of Buffalo; two brothers, William Todd “Red” Wright of Buffalo and Ronnie Wright of Union; two grandchildren, Kevin Everhart and Devaeh Olivia Murphy and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home prior to the graveside services.

Mrs. Regina Canupp Denton, age 62, wife of David “Tommy” Denton of 756 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Denton was born in Lockhart, SC August 18, 1953, a daughter of the late Henry David Canupp and Laura Sanders Canupp. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and was a former Textile worker. Mrs. Denton was a lifelong member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder. She had her on card ministry where she was very faithful in remembering special occasions for a host people. Mrs. Denton was a devoted wife and mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, David Denton of Union and best friends Eugenia McKnight and Linda Davis of Union.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Lockhart Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Lemons. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ned W. Garner, age 76 of 194 Garner Rd., Union, widower of Lois Adams Garner passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Regional Hospice Home. Mr. Garner was first married to the late Valice Marie Haney Garner.

Mr. Garner was born in Union, SC August 20, 1939, a son of the late James Hay Fant Garner and Eunice Eva Elrod Garner. He was a former Eagle Truck Driver and was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church and a Board Member of Kelly Kelton Fire Department.

Surviving are a son, James Garner and wife Megan of Union; a sister, Nancy J. Garner of Spartanburg; three grandchildren: Brandon Garner and wife Alicia of Spartanburg, Bronson Garner and wife Allison of Jonesville and  Riley Garner of Union and two step-sons: Brian Lawson and Erik  Lawson both of Jonesville.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Porter-Gallman Cemetery conducted by Rev. Alan West and Rev. Glen Ribelin.

Mrs. Turner was born in South Carolina December 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Lawson Mills and Ollie Farmer Mills. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Lockhart Mill. Mrs. Turner was a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where she had formerly served as church organist.

Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Fowler of Lockhart; a grandson, Patrick Fowler and wife Tina of Union; three great-grandchildren: James Patrick Fowler, Dylan Fowler and Zack Fowler all of Union.

Mr. Norman Lee “Pop” Emler, age 82 of 3609 Lockhart Hwy., Union passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Emler was born in Kirkland, WA, August 25, 1933, a son of the late Harry Wilber Emler and Pearl Miller Emler. He was formerly employed in the logging industry and was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean War. Mr. Emler was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by five children and his adopted family with whom he made his home in Union, Rhonda and Jimmy Gregory and their sons, Tyler, Colby, Brett and Owen, who he treated as his own grandsons.  He is also survived by three sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee. The family will receive friends following the services at the church.

Mrs. Carrie Horne Holcombe, age 92, of 1703 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Jonesville, widow of William Hope Holcombe passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Heartland Health Care.

Mrs. Holcombe was born in Union, SC on March 8, 1924 a daughter of the late Ed Horne and Ella Inman Horne.  She was retired from Milliken & Co.—Lockhart Plant.  Mrs. Holcombe was first married to the late Morris Horne.

Surviving are one son, John Edward Horne and wife Dale of Union; one sister Lib Scronce; and thirty-five grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Emily Horne Adams; a son, Douglas Horne; six brothers, Lewis Horne, Johnny Horne, Early Horne, Dick Horne, Douglas Horne, and August Horne; and four sisters Eddie Mae Kirby, Edith McBride, Flossy Horne and Mallie Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Alan West.  Burial will follow at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Donna Jean Mease Youngblood, age 86, of 646 Vernon Foster Rd., Jonesville, passed away, Friday, July 1, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Youngblood was born in Canton, NC on June 24, 1930 a daughter of the late Leaton Mease and Amy Henson Mease.  She was retired from United Merchants Union Mill.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Youngblood and wife Debbie of Woodruff and Steve Youngblood and wife Kathy of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, Scarlett Y. Alexander of Union, Rock Youngblood of Union, Danielle Youngblood of Hartsville, Tara Youngblood of Duncan, Marcia Y. Johnson of Simpsonville, Melissa Y. Lawson of Jonesville and Crystal Y. Smith of Buffalo; six great-grandchildren, Logan Alexander, Justin Hall, Samantha Hall, Brannon Johnson, Samantha Hindman, and Dylan Smith; one great-great-grandchild, Ansley Clayton; four sisters, Nina Austin of Buffalo, Pauline Sanders and Loretta Patrick both of Union and Jaynelle Davis of Inman; one brother, R. L. Mease of Florida; and a number nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one son, David Ralph Youngblood and three sisters, Emma Lee Inman, Berlyn Head, and Nadine McCall.

Mrs. Joanne Mathis Norwood, age 82 of 709 Rice Avenue Ext., Union, SC widow of Mack Norwood passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Norwood was born in Spartanburg, SC on October 9, 1933 a daughter of the late J.C. Ford and Viola Jones Ford.  She was a graduate of West Springs High School and retired as Office Manager from Shelby Concrete Products.  Mrs. Norwood was a member of West Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter Cheryl Billings and husband James of Blacksburg; two Sisters Dale Lipsey of Union and Sandra West of West Springs; two brothers, Rev. Jerry Ford and wife Patricia and Danny Ford and wife Cornelia all of Union; one granddaughter, Morgan Heatherly of Union; five grandsons, Joseph Heatherly of Atlanta, GA, Cole Heatherly of Union, Alex Heatherly of Union, Michael Billings and wife Katie of Gaffney, and Eric Billings of Blacksburg; four great-grandchildren, Damion Banard, Carter Billings, Abbygail Faith Billings, and Noah Billings.  She was predeceased by one son, Terry Heatherly and one grandson, Matthew Thomas.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 3, 2016 at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Greg Black and Chaplain Rex Keaton.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Soto was born in North Platt, NE, September 11, 1959 and retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was a Veteran of the US Navy.       

Surviving are a son, David Roberts and wife Kaci of Boiling Springs and two grandchildren, Kylan and James Roberts.
