James M. ‘Jamie’ Moore

Mr. James Michael “Jamie” Moore, age 49, of 210 Drugstore St., Buffalo, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Moore was born in Gaffney, December 8, 1970, a son of Kay McCraw O’Shields of the home and the late James Mitchell Moore. He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Belk Distribution.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Stephanie O’Shields; a brother, Thomas O’Shields, Jr. both of Union; three aunts, Sonya Culbreth of Roebuck, Gay Bright of Pacolet and Starr Allison of Gaffney; one uncle, Lucky Allison of Spartanburg; his maternal grandfather, Olen Allison of Gaffney and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jamie was predeceased by a brother, Steven Rush Moore and his stepfather, Thomas O’Shields, Sr.

A memorial service will be scheduled by the family for a later date.

Hazel Elizabeth Rippy Walker

Mrs. Hazel Elizabeth Rippy Walker, age 86, of 118 Lakeside Dr., Union, formerly of Smyrna, widow of MSgt. Evans Spencer Walker, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Langston Place in Clinton.

Mrs. Walker was born in Blacksburg, November 15, 1933 a daughter of the late Ernest and Geneva Peeler Rippy. She was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and retired from Timken Co. in Gaffney. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Blacksburg. She was a member of the Gold Star Wives after losing her husband in Vietnam in 1967.

Surviving are a daughter, Geneva Dorn and husband Doug of N. Charleston; two sons, Edward Walker and wife Lynn of Blacksburg and Robert Craig Walker and wife Linda of the home; a sister, Pat Easler and husband George of Smyrna; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walker was predeceased by a brother, Harold Rippy.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.


Christopher Adam Horne
Booneville, MS


Mr. Christopher Adam Horne, age 30, formerly of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.

Adam was born in Spartanburg, June 8, 1989 a son of Angela Dawn Belue Horne and fiancé Michael Putnam of Jonesville and Christopher Scott Horne and wife Susan of Kathleen, GA. He was a 2007 member of the last graduating class of Jonesville High School and he also attended USC-Upstate. He was an active student, participating in student government as Class Treasurer, Percussion Captain of the JHS Marching Wildcats, a member of the Drama Club and the Chorus. Adam loved to perform and had played “Daniel” in the Spartanburg Little Theater’s production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He attended Oakbrook Community Church and was formerly employed with Ashley Furniture in Booneville, MS.

Adam was a kind, gentle, beautiful soul who never let anyone get away without a smile and a hug. He treated life as a scene to be acted, a rhythm to be danced, a drum to be beaten, a piano to be played and a song to be sung. He never met a stranger and he left everyone he met feeling special.

Surviving in addition to his parents and step-parents are two sisters, Brittany Horne of Kathleen, GA and Tara Putman of Union; a brother, Mike Horne of Kathleen, GA; his grandparents include, Roy and Brenda Little of Union and Wayne and Marian Belue of Jonesville, Gayle Horne of Jonesville and Lucy Putnam of Union and his great-grandmother, Mamie Addis of Jonesville. Adam was also survived by the following aunts and uncles, Wanda and Bobby Adamson, Beth and Phillip Sprouse, Rob (Deb) Little, Mickey and Amy Belue, Shane (Susan) Belue, Heath Belue, and Craig Horne and also numerous cousins including a special cousin Shana Little Kirby of Jonesville. He was predeceased by grandparents, Robert Horne, Bill Knox, Daisy Gregory, William and Daisy Little, L.J. Addis, Lewis and Estelle Horne, Jesse and Madge Belue and Richard Putnam, Sr. and an aunt, Tammy Horne.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. Burial will be at Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Jay Haney, Matt Cunningham, Jordan Horne, Tanner Belue, Eric Sprouse, Justin Sprouse, Jeremy Robinson and Mike Horne.

The following uncles are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Rob Little, Bobby Adamson, Craig Horne, Mickey Belue, Shane Belue and Heath Belue. Classmates at Jonesville High School are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 Saturday at the chapel prior to the services.

Mr. Ted Eugene Mosier, age 67, of 231 Poplar St., Pacolet, widower of Nancy Minor Mosier, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Mosier was born in Kannapolis, NC, March 26, 1952, a son of the late Ted E. Mosier, Sr. and Dorothy Knighten Mosier Caldwell. He was a graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from Timken Co. Mr. Mosier enjoyed hunting and was a member of the NRA. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles. Mr. Mosier was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Laura M. Tessnear and husband Todd of Pacolet; two sisters, Brenda Moore of Boiling Springs and Patricia Sumner and husband Nathan of Jonesville; one brother, Rickie Mosier of Pacolet; four grandchildren, Josh Tessnear and wife Sheri, Heather Morgan, Kassidy Tessnear and Noah Tessnear and three great-grandchildren: Jacob and Avery Tessnear and Bowen Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Nathan Sumner. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Friday at the chapel prior to the services.

Benny Joe Fowler
Jonesville, S.C.


Mr. Benny Joe Fowler, age 85 of Hames Ave., Jonesville, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Mary Black Hospital.

Mr. Fowler was born in Union, January 28, 1934, a son of the late Ross and Lois Mabry Fowler. He was retired from the SC Dept. of Transportation in Gaffney and was a former member of the SC National Guard, Jonesville Unit.  Mr. Fowler loved dirt track racing where he had competed for a number of years. He also enjoyed Bluegrass music and dancing. Mr. Fowler was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church in Pacolet.

Surviving are three daughters, Vicky Edwards of Virginia, Janice Palmer and fiancé Allan Bright of Jonesville and Patsy Thomas of Boiling Springs; one son, Gene Fowler and wife Janice of Jonesville; two brothers, John Fowler and Jimmy Fowler both of Jonesville; five grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Mr. Fowler was predeceased by three brothers, Donnie, Jack and Billy Fowler and two sisters, Betty Martin and Yvonne Goings.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Dennis Tessnier. Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Palmer, Chase Palmer, Landen Palmer, Eric Deel, Allan Bright, Brandon Knox and Nick Cooke.

Harry Lewis ‘Lane’ McCall

Mr. Harry Lewis “Lane” McCall, age 59 of Bates Ave. Ext., Union, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020.

Mr. McCall was born in Union, March 29, 1960, a son of the late Jack and Nadine Mease McCall. He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing.

Surviving are two sons, Jake McCall and wife Casey of Moore and Corey McCall and wife Lauren of Woodruff; two brothers, Tony McCall and Kenneth McCall both of Union; three granddaughters, Kathleen, Aria and Ashlyn McCall and two grandsons, Leonidas and Cowen McCall. Mr. McCall was predeceased by a sister, Candy McCall Silvers.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.


Norman Dean Haney

Mr. Norman Dean Haney, age 75 of 104 Heatherly Dr., Buffalo, widower of Flora Jean Davis Haney, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Haney was born in Union, August 24, 1944, a son of the late Herman and Sallie Bledsoe Haney. He was a retired textile worker and a member of Putman Baptist Church. Mr. Haney enjoyed music and was an avid song writer. He loved fishing and his Lord. Mr. Haney was a veteran of the US Army having been stationed in Germany.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Haney of the home, and Cynthia Schulter and husband Chris of Acworth, GA; a son, Thomas Haney and wife Amanda of Union; a sister, Marguerite Herron of Warrenville, SC; six grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mr. Haney was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to the staff and nurses of Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their care of Mr. Haney during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Mann. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the services.

Mr. William Miles “Bill” Turner, age 73 of Bluebird Rd., Union, widower of Bonita Medford Turner, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

Mr. Turner was born February 26, 1946, a son of the late Claude and Jessie Knighton Turner. He retired as a long-haul truck driver and was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Mr. Turner was retired from the US Army having served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving are a granddaughter, Kelsey Leigh Turner serving in the US Navy in Virginia; a grandson, Andrew Michael Turner of Greenville and a sister, Mary Sue Black and husband Sandy of Titusville, FL. Mr. Turner was predeceased by his only son, David Michael Turner; three sisters, Elizabeth Garner, Pearl Wisham and Katherine Harkins and two brothers, Wofford Turner and Jim Turner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2020 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randy Smith. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Clydie Mae Lindler, age 82, of 402 Culp Court, Union, widow of Jimmy Olin Lindler, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Lindler was born January 9, 1938 in Rossville, GA, a daughter of the late Ivey Lacey Callie and Oleta Haswell.  She retired as a CNA from Wallace Thomson Hospital after 37 years.  Mrs. Lindler was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. 

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Gallman and husband Rodney and Tammy Stanford all of Union; two sisters, Janice Peterson and Charlsie Locket; six grandchildren, Amber G. Kenney and husband John, Jeremy R. Gallman and wife Amanda, Erin G. Robinson and husband Larry, Keri S. Adams and husband Jason, Jake Stanford and Sean Stanford; and ten great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Cara, and Patrick Kenney, Norah and Joseph Gallman, Kason Adams, David Stanford, Ansli Stanford, Kenzie Stanford, and Kaleigh Stanford.  She was predeceased by an infant son, Christopher Joel Lindler, twin daughters, Sherrie and Terrie Lindler, and a grandson, Nicholas O’Neal Stanford.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Maria Miller.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mr. William “Billy” Thomas, age 65, of 220 Buffalo St., Buffalo, widower of Carolyn Thomas, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Thomas was born in Union, March 25, 1954, a son of the late Charles and Geraldine Sanders Thomas. He was a retired textile worker and enjoyed music.

Surviving are a sister, JoAnn T. Millwood of the home; four daughters, Jackie Burns and friend Jamie Lemaster of the home, Nicki Silvey of Greenville, Angie Thomas and April Trammel both of Union; a nephew, James (Eddie) Millwood of the home and two special angels from heaven, Nevaeh Lemaster and Serenity Lemaster.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Horseshoe Circle Music Hall, 111 Harris St., Union, Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Mrs. Mary Ann Ham Sanders, age 85, widow of Heyward “Buck” Sanders of 134 Mt. Joy Church Road, Jonesville, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Sanders was born in Kelton, October 16, 1934, a daughter of the late Forrest and Stella Gault Ham. She was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and had retired as a supervisor from Bell South after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Sanders was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church from childhood until her marriage to Buck where she joined him in membership to Sardis United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and meeting with the Pioneer Ladies of Bell South.

She is survived by her sister, Jency L. Ham of Jonesville; a niece, Lisa McCarson of Marietta; two nephews, John Ham Jr., and Darrell Ham both of Greenville; a great niece, Elizabeth McCarson and great nephew, Eric McCarson. She was predeceased by three brothers, Wallace Ham, John Ham, and States “Bo” Ham.

The family would like to thank her special caregiver, Pam Boyea, special neighbors, Ricky and Kathy Black, and Agape Hospice

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Mr. Chad Ponder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brenda Howell McMillian, age 69, of 113 Silver Rd., Union, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McMillian was born July 29, 1950 in Union, a daughter of the late Van William “Bill” Howell and Etta Pridmore “Ruby” Howell.  She was retired from Spring City Knits in Gaffney.  Mrs. McMillian was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.  She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Surviving are two daughters, Renea King and husband Craig and Candice Davis Vinson and husband Gregg all of Union; a son, Charles Ray Dantzler of Union; a sister, Vonnie Smith and husband Jimmy of Buffalo; two brothers, Calvin Howell and wife Julie and Kerry Flowers all of Union; four grandsons, Paul Wilson and wife Blake, Phillip King, Brandon Dantzler, and Michael Dantzler; and five great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by twin sisters, Elaine and Eileen Howell and a brother, Keith Howell.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kathleen Bailey Tesner, age 91, of 201 Pine St., Union, widow of Sam Tesner, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 in Spartanburg.

Mrs. Tesner was born in Union, August 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Charlie Olin Bailey and Allie Mae Bailey. She was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a son, Lewis Tesner of the home; two sisters, Ruby Bailey Hodges of Hodges and Martha Jean Bailey Ealum of Autuagaville, AL; one brother, A.L. Bailey of Ninety Six; and several grandchildren including, Johnny Tesner, Brandy Tesner and April Cash. Mrs. Tesner was predeceased by two sons, John “Buddy” Tesner and James Ray Tesner, and two brothers, Reid Bailey and Howard Bailey.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Gilead Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Mrs. Louvenia Smith West, age 86, of 1416 Santuc-Carlisle Hwy., Union, widow of Walter C. “Buck” West, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. West was born in Anderson, August 13, 1933, a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Bessie Smith. She retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River Plant and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Carter and husband Ronnie and a son, Billy West and wife Sheena all of Union; a sister, Margaret Underwood of N. Augusta; a brother, Billy Smith of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren, Chris West and wife Jennifer, Jana Manasco and husband Cody and Matthew Carter and wife Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Bentley Riggs West, Drew Manasco and Hayden Lawson; and two nephews, Randy Underwood and wife Debbie of Aiken and Joe Underwood and wife Dianne of Clearwater. Mrs. West was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Smith.

Dennis L. ‘Hilltop’ Crisp

Mr. Dennis Lynn “Hilltop” Crisp, age 65 of 825 S. Duncan ByPass, Union, passed away, Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home.

Dennis was born in Union, October 9, 1954, a son of the late Sam and Sara McGowan Crisp. He worked with the Union Co. Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels. Dennis was very active with Miracle League, Pickin and Grinning, Wrestling, Racing, Lukesville Community Club and numerous other community activities. He was an honorary fireman with Buffalo Fire Department and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. Dennis loved everyone and enjoyed his time with each and everyone he came in contact with. Dennis loved to travel and tell the world about his wonderful town of Union County.

Surviving are two sisters, Vicki Morgan and husband Bruce with whom he made his home, and Sammye Nix and husband David “Bubba” of Buffalo. Dennis is also survived by nieces and nephews: Christie (Rod) Knight, James (Andrea “Harper”) Harris, Denver (Shannon) Harris, Misty (Chip) Osborne, Kelley Nix, Casey (Aida) Morgan, and Jamie (Andrea “Drew”) Morgan. Great nieces and nephews are: Tate (Mallerie) Knox, Jase Knight, Dayton Knight, Kadianne Knight, Morgan (Cy) Harris, Luke Harris, Rylee and Brooklynn Harris, Julian Osborne, Alexa Morgan, and Aubrey Lawson. Great-great nieces are: Kylie Knox, Ellie and Charli Painter and great-great nephews are: J.W. Knight and Wes Knox. Also surviving are a special uncle Donnie (Jean) Crisp and special cousins: J.W. (Jackie) Crisp and David (Laura) Crisp. Dennis was predeceased by a great niece, Jaidi Osborne.

Major (Ret.) Winnie Belle Sanders, age 103 formerly of Lenoir, NC, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Miss Sanders was born in Union, November 10, 1916, a daughter of the late Fred and Lula Ogles Sanders. She was a graduate of Union High School, Cecil’s Business College and received her Nursing degree from Spartanburg General Hospital.

Miss Sanders joined the United States Army in 1941 and served as a nurse until 1945. She re-entered service joining the United States Air Force Nurses Corps in 1949 and retired as a flight nurse in 1966. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter #79 and was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Union. Miss Sanders was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by a niece, Nadine Glenn of Houston, MO and two great-nephews, Brian Libberton of Houston, MO and Robert Libberton of Glendale, AZ. Miss Sanders was predeceased by two brothers, Fred E. Sanders and his wife Ana Maria and Harry W. Sanders. She was also predeceased by her best-friend since nursing school and sister-in-law, Lucille Sanders.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robbie Stollger.



Edward Maurice “Kit” Cordell

Mr. Edward Maurice “Kit” Cordell, age 89, of Union, widower of Joann Foster Cordell passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Cordell was born February 22, 1930 in Ottaray, a son of the late Carl Eugene Cordell and Louise Elsmore Cordell.  He was a 1948 graduate of Union High School and a 1952 graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.  Mr. Cordell played on the 1946 Union High School State Championship Class A Baseball Team.  During his teenage years, he enjoyed delivering groceries for his family’s store Cordell Grocery in the Monarch and Ottaray Community. Mr. Cordell moved to Australia to manage plants for Bruck Textiles where he retired after 17 years.  Prior to moving to Australia, he worked for Milliken & Company.  He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Cordell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He had previously been a football official and had enjoyed traveling with Senior Citizens.  Mr. Cordell loved his hometown of Union, its people, activities, and restaurants.

Surviving are his only daughter, Tina Cordell of the home; ten nieces and nephews, Alfred Robert Cordell, Jr. and wife Sherri, De Cordell and wife Annie, Mark Cordell and wife Ann, Doug Queen, Tami Fowler, Rose Robinson, Cheryl Foster Kimble and husband Scott, Michael Foster, Cindy Foster Worthen, and Lynn DeLoatch; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Alfred Robert Cordell. 

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Bauknight.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Ashton Drake Clark, six-month-old son of Samuel and Kylie Kelley of 305 Toney Road, Union, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Drake was born in Spartanburg, July 15, 2019 to Monica Peyton Keisler and Andrew Clark.  In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Paisley Brannon and Emily Wishert; three brothers, Liam Brannon, James Taylor Wishert, and Gavin Kelley; grandparents, Audrey and Randy Swinford of Pauline; great-grandparents, Rebecca and Carrol Smith of Pauline; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his great-grandmother, Vivian Kelley.

Mrs. Patsy Leonhardt Bobo, age 87, widow of Donald “Sonny” Bobo formerly of Stutts Ave., Union, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Bobo was born in Union, March 29, 1932, a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Wade Leonhardt. She was a graduate of Union High School and had retired as activity director at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. Mrs. Bobo had also work for Bell South and Milliken and Co., Monarch plant as a switchboard operator.

She was a faithful member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and active with the senior’s group as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Bobo was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Don Bobo and wife Susan and her grandson, Luke Bobo all of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Glenda Williams of Greenville and a special caregiver Patty West of Union.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2020 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bruce Sparks, age 77, husband of Candace Kay Davis Sparks of 712 Brown’s Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Monday, January 13, 2020 after an extended illness.

Mr. Sparks was born in Union, July 27, 1942, a son of the late Hay Fant Sparks, Sr. and Josephine Hall Sparks. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a member of New Life Baptist Church. He served on several mission trips around the globe; Cuba, Nicaragua, Brazil and England. A Sunday School teacher for 50 years at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church, he also served as a Deacon, a Choir member and secretary of the Brotherhood at the church. Mr. Sparks was an assistant chaplain of the Union County Senior Citizens. He was part of the cast of Judgement House at New Life Baptist Church.

Mr. Sparks was a 1960 graduate of Union High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He retired from Bell South after 38 years, SCDNR after 9 years and was a veteran of SC National Guard. He was an avid duck hunter.

Mr. Sparks leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Kay, of the home; two daughters, Candace S. Osborne and husband Mark of Prosperity and Stephanie K. Sparks of Union; one son, Bruce Sparks, Jr. and wife Heather of Union; five grandchildren, Grant Osborne of Prosperity, Hayden Osborne of Prosperity, Evan Sparks of Charleston, Madelyn Sparks and Joseph Sparks of Union. Mr. Sparks was predeceased by two brothers, Hay Fant Sparks, Jr. and Glen Alfred Sparks, Sr.; his father-in-law, Ed Davis; his mother-in-law, Ruby Ivey Davis; a sister-in-law, Wanda Davis Petty and a brother-in-law, Don E. Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Taylor Wells and Rev. Todd Davis.

A celebratory visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening, January 17, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church where refreshments will be served.

Visitation will also be from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Past and present Sunday School students of Mr. Sparks, past and present AT&T employees along with past and present employees of the Dept. of Natural Resources are asked to sit in a group.

Ms. Wade was born in Union, SC July 7, 1970, a daughter of  Kenneth Dean Alexander of Waco, TX and the late Vicky Rector Alexander. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and had formerly worked for Dollar General as an Auditor. Ms. Wade was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are three daughters: Marah Alexander, Kendra Smith both of Jonesille and Victoria Alexander of Whitmire; a sister, Deann Tucker and husband Richard of Waco, TX; four grandchildren: Kennedy, Adelyn, Noel and Avalyn; several nieces and nephews and a special dog named “Daisey”.

Mrs. Virginia Moss Thompson, age 83, wife of Paul Herbert Thompson of 613 Howell Rd., Jonesville, passed away Friday, January 10, 2020 at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Union on June 22, 1936, a daughter of the late Rufus Moss and Myrtle Palmer Moss. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was formerly employed with Milliken & Co. and Torrington Plant.  Mrs. Thompson was an entrepreneur and ran a successful wallpapering business for many years.  She also owned and operated Buffalo Seafood, along with her brother William, for 18 years.  Mrs. Thompson was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was an avid gardener and cook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Debra Toney Waldron and Paula Kaye Thompson Jones and husband Wade both of Spartanburg; two sons: Michael Ray Thompson and wife Jeanie of Union and James Richard “Rick” Thompson of Jonesville; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a brother, William Moss of Union. Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by two sisters, Lillie Moss Grant and Betty Moss Sullivan and a brother, Harrison Moss. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Marie Bailey, Laura Moss, Tanya Martin, Natasha Hill, Spartanburg Regional Hospice Nurses, and the Shut In Ministry of Bethlehem and Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church, for their love and care of Mrs. Thompson.

Mr. Bailey was born in Union, December 4, 1960, a son of Charles H. Bailey of the home and the late Carolyn Baker Bailey. He was a 1980 graduate of Union High School and was formerly a self-employed vinyl siding installer. Mr. Bailey had also worked at Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and with Milliken and Co. He was a karate enthusiast and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his father is a daughter, Lindsay B. Dawkins and husband Chuck of Rock Hill; two brothers, Danny Bailey and wife Lisa of Union and Christopher Bailey of San Diego, CA; two granddaughters, Audrey and Emily Dawkins and six nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Roberta Horne Stepp, age 83, of 127 C Street, Jonesville, widow of Joe Thomas Stepp Sr., passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Stepp was born on July 11, 1936 in Jonesville, a daughter of the late Foster E. Horne and Eloise Barnett Horne. Mrs. Stepp was a graduate of Jonesville High and Cecil’s Business College. She retired from J. P. Stevens after 30 years. She was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church where she helped with Sunday School and G.A.’s.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Stepp Switzer of Spartanburg and Amanda Rapson, of Union; two sons, Joe T. Stepp, Jr. and wife Pam of Jonesville and Eric Foster Stepp and wife Megan of Pacolet; eight grandchildren, Tyler Switzer, Cheyenne Stepp, Zaydah Stepp, Sydney Rapson, Savedge Stepp, Xavier Rapson, Esylam Stepp, and Maveric Stepp; and a special friend, Mike Ivey. She was predeceased by a baby sister, Patricia Ann Horne.

Mrs. Edna Rebecca Ann “Gaga” Kingsmore Davis, age 77, wife of Harl Leon Davis, Sr. of Buffalo, went peacefully to her Heavenly home Monday, January 6, 2020 surrounded by her family and friends.

Edna was born the daughter of the late Carrie and Ella Kingsmore.  A lifelong resident of the Buffalo Mill Village, she loved the people of Buffalo, and had worked at Buffalo Mill for over 30 years as a Supervisor. She was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where she gave her heart to Jesus as a small child.  Edna had taught Children’s Sunday School, was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, the Chairperson of the Social Committee and helped prepare food every Wednesday for the church family for over 10 years.  The children of Buffalo Baptist Church were her passion. She loved to travel. Edna and her husband Leon loved their family, Buffalo Baptist Church family and their community.  “Gaga” as she was affectionately known, always hosted family gatherings.  She loved to cook and keep the family laughing.  Gaga and Papa’s house was the home away from home for the entire family.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 57 years are their two children, H. Mr. Vaughan was born in Union, July 16,1937, a son of the late C.C. and Bertie Ailene Vaughan. He was a graduate of Union High School and a retired textile worker. Mr. Vaughan was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Timothy Vaughan; three sisters, Shirley Bobo, Joyce Adams and husband Ernest, and Rita Sanders and husband Timmy all of Union; two brothers, Larry Vaughan and wife Sue and Chris Vaughan and wife Pam all of Union; one granddaughter, five great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mr. Vaughan was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Vaughan.

Mrs. Sarah Faulks Greene, age 71, widow of Gerald W. Greene, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Greene was born in Union, October 3, 1948, a daughter of the late Walter Dewey Faulks and Mary Ellen Bell Faulks. She was a member of First Baptist Church and spent most of her life caring for the elderly and children with her big heart.

Surviving are a sister, Juanita Johnson of Union and several nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Greene was predeceased by three brothers, Walter Faulks, Jr., Jimmy Lee Faulks and James Allen Faulks.

Mrs. Black was born in Jonesville, June 20, 1932, a daughter of the late Jesse and Lou Austin Foster.  She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette B. Main and husband Bob of Columbia; two sons, Earl Black and wife Sondra and Allen Black and wife Rhonda all of Union; grandchildren, Adam Black, Joanna Main, Melissa B. Franks and husband Rodney, Robbie Copper and wife Megan, Maranda B. Marin and husband Amaury, Katie C. Freeman and husband Dennis and Eric Black and wife Lindsay; great-grandchildren, Madison Main Grunnert, Jack Cooper, Henry Cooper, Lucy Freeman and Cailyn Black and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her children of the heart, Margie and Bill Goodwin and special caregivers, Angela and Mark Tomaszewski. Mrs. Black was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia B. Murphy and Juanita B. Cooper.

A long-time member of Fairforest Baptist Church, Lib was an active member of the Ladies Sunday School class #3 as long as her health permitted. She was a homemaker, loving wife and devoted grandmother, great-grandmother and loving caretaker.
