Woodrow Wilson Horne, Jr.

Mr. Woodrow Wilson Horne, Jr, age 49 of 306 West Hillcrest Avenue, Union, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Horne was born in Union, SC January 8, 1967, a son of Dora Lee Wages Horne of Union and the late Woodrow Wilson Horne, Sr. He had attended the Union Church of Christ and was employed with Brown’s Roofing Company.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a special friend, Frieda Johnson of Spartanburg; two sisters: Ginger Gault of Union and Debbie Belk of Lockhart; a half-sister, Judith Welch of Winder, GA; a number of nieces and nephews and special friends, Mark Austin and Kathy Lanier both of Union.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, February 1, 2016 at the home of his sister, Ginger Gault, 201 Bennett Street, Union.

Magdalene R. “Teenie” McAbee

Mrs. Magdalene R. “Teenie” McAbee, age 75, wife of Boyd E. McAbee, of 2252 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. McAbee was born in Lancaster, SC on June 23, 1940 a daughter of the late James Blair Railey and Nora Lee Huneycutt Railey.  She was retired from Ashe Insurance Company in Lockhart and was formerly employed with Milliken & Company – Excelsior Plant.  Mrs. McAbee was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church. 

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Michael “Moose” McAbee and wife Beth of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Scott McAbee of the home; three sisters, Mary Pittman and husband Duke of Camden, Phyllis Fowler of Lancaster, and Brenda Caldwell of Clinton; one sister in law, Peggy Railey of Lancaster; two granddaughters, Taylor and Lucy Busbin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Billie Jean Adams and husband Leroy and Doris Krawacki and husband Ike and one brother, Jimmy Franklin Railey.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Bob Cato.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be William Jolly, Johnny Rutledge, Rod McAbee, Terry Greene, Monty Fowler, Jeff Littlejohn, Colman Farrell, and Keith Baker.  The following are asked to form the honorary escort, Tommy Knox, Will Horlacher and David Horlacher.

Mrs. Frances “Sis” Horne Fowler, age 91 of 601 N. Main Street, Jonesville, widow of Claude “Shorty” Fowler, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Union, June 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Horace F. Horne and Nannie Fowler Horne. She was owner of Fowler’s Grocery, Hash and BBQ Place in Jonesville. She was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Surviving are three nephews: Tommy Fowler, Gary Proctor and Gene Horne all of Jonesville and a special friend, Lorraine Kershaw. Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by three sisters, Lena H. Lee, Mary Evelyn “Cotton” Fowler and Katherine “Cat” Horne Proctor Smith.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon.

Active pallbearers will be Lonnie Gist, Edward Garner, Ricky Roberts and Mark Spears.

Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.

Cora Gregory Jenkins
Lockhart, SC


Mrs. Cora Gregory Jenkins, age 88 of 309 N. 1st Street, Lockhart, widow of William H. “Bill” Jenkins, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Newberry Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Lockhart, SC February 7, 1927, a daughter of the late Norman Gregory and Louise Plexico Gregory. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School. Mrs. Jenkins was a devoted member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church where she served as pianist for over fifty years. She also served in other capacities of the church and was a member of Lockhart Senior Citizens. Mrs. Jenkins was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Surviving are a son, David N. Jenkins, and wife Cathy of Newberry; two sisters: Frances Young and husband Jerry of Greenwood and Laura Carter and husband George of Spartanburg; two brothers: Bobby Gregory and wife Barbara of Boiling Springs and Hugh Gregory and wife June of Lockhart; two granddaughters: Kelly Folk and husband Chase and Amy Jenkins; two great-grandchildren: William Folk and Cathryn Folk and numerous special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jenkins was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Reardon and a brother, Ralph Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Lockhart Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Lemons and Rev. Dr. Albert Allen. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Reardon, Richard Gregory, Brian Gregory, Tony Young, Danny Young, Craig Young, Tim Carter and Richie Gregory.

Visitation will be held 6:00-7:30 PM Friday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Richard Wayne Harris, Sr.

Mr. Richard Wayne Harris, age 68, husband of Angela Loecke “Angie” Harris of 115 Fairview Street, Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Harris was born in Brevard, NC May 18, 1947, a son of the late Gene Carrol Harris and Alice Holden Harris. He was a Veteran of the US Army for eight years as a Medic and was stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA. for many years. Mr. Harris was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sara Jane Karki of Minnesota; a son, Christopher Thomas Harris of N.C.; two sisters: Linda H. Littlejohn and husband Joe Ed of Buffalo and Faye Davis of Union. Mr. Harris was predeceased by a son, Richard Wayne Harris, Jr and a brother, Gene Harris, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Friday, January 29, 2016 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke.

Visitation will be held 11:00-12:00 in the chapel prior to the service

Mr. Judson James Gregory, age 84, husband of Pearl Creasman Gregory of 104 Bermuda Dr., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Magnolia Manor in Inman.

Mr. Gregory was born in Union, June 11, 1931, a son of the late Will and Hilda Saunders Gregory. He retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant having worked in the shop and was owner of the Sno-White Laundromat on the Duncan ByPass. He was a 60 year member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75. He loved children and was a supporter of the Shriners Hospital for the last 27 years. Mr. Gregory was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Terry J. Gregory and wife Alice; one brother, Gene Gregory and wife Barbara all of Union; four grandchildren, Michael Poole, Travis Poole, Phillip Gregory, and Jason Gregory; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Gregory, Taylor Gregory, Neely Owens, Jordian Owens, and Nick Gregory and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters, Willie Mae Ashford and Alti Bell Colson, and a brother, Arthur L. Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Howard Whitehead, Franklin Pridemore, Mike Phillips, Randy Lee, Monty Kingsmore and Dell Mitchell. Members of the Union Masonic Lodge and Dean Fowler are asked to serve as the honorary escort.

Mr. Ralph Rivers Jenkins, age 48 of 1741 Tinker Creek Rd., Union, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Union, December 11, 1967, a son of the late Ralph and Frances Rivers Jenkins.  He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was formerly employed with Great Clips in Union.

Surviving are two sisters, Kelly S. Jenkins, with whom he made his home and Jennifer J. Jansen of Union; a brother, Gene Jenkins of McConnells; and three nephews, Richard Thomas Jenkins, William Eugene Jenkins and Collin Rivers Jenkins.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Ricky Wayne Haney, age 61, husband of Cindy Vess Haney of 409 Haney Rd., Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 22, 2016.

Mr. Haney was born in Union, October 16, 1954, a son of the late Walter and Madie Ghorley Haney.  He was a 1973 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Griffin Gear in Pauline. Mr. Haney was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Erica Haney of Buffalo, Bridgit Jennings of Union and Casey Smith of the home; a son, Matthew Haney of Buffalo; two sisters, Nancy Solesbee of North Augusta, SC and Judy Petty of Buffalo; a special cousin, Dan Williford of Clark Hill, GA; seven grandchildren, Devon Smith, Jaela Smith, Madison Haney, Nyla Smith, Lucas Haney, Landon Johnson and Addison Cornelison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haney was predeceased by two sisters, infant Carolyn Haney and Faye Henderson; three brothers, Danny Ray Haney, Alfred Haney and Eugene Haney, and a special cousin, Sue Williford.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Rick Henderson, Rev. Dr. Donald Tillman and Mr. David Freeman. Burial will be at Putman Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lorena Cate McAlpine

Lorena Cate McAlpine, loving wife and mother, went home to be with her Lord on January 15, 2016.

Born, January 2, 1926, in Chattanooga, TN to Francena and Otto Cate, Lorena was raised in Union, SC.  She lived a wonderfully rich and rewarding 90 years and was married to her childhood sweetheart for 70 years.  Lorena helped to guide and nurture three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

A devoted Christian, Lorena dedicated her life to serving others.  She gave freely of her time, talent and compassion to many relatives during times of illness.  She volunteered with the Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary for over 36 years serving three terms as its president.  Additionally, Lorena served as the Northeast District Director of the Association of Florida Hospital Auxiliaries.  As a member of Gainesville’s Grace Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder, an active participant in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle, and as Chair of the Membership and Fellowship committees.

She is survived by her husband, Robert G. McAlpine; daughter Mary Ellen McAlpine; son, Robert G. McAlpine Jr. (Cathy); daughter Martha McAlpine Taylor (Steven); grandchildren Helen Houk of Tampa, FL (Mike); Rick Elm (Heather) of Hazlet, NJ; Jeanie McAlpine of Baltimore, MD; Cate McAlpine and Ellen McAlpine of Seneca, SC; Travis Taylor and Shelby Taylor of Auburn, AL; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service honoring Lorena’s life will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church.  Interment and graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Union, South Carolina on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm, under the direction of Holcombe Funeral Home. William Lewis Clark

Mr. William Lewis Clark, age 72 husband of Brenda Bailey Clark of 231 Bailey Town Rd., Union, passed away, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Clark was born in Union, October 12, 1943, a son of the late Buck Clark and Ethel Bright Clark.  He was retired from Milliken & Co. Monarch Plant after 45 years and after retirement he worked part-time with Reagan Salvage Company.  Mr. Clark was a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church and the Lockhart Masonic Lodge No. 244.  He was a former member of the SC National Guard and was an avid wood worker. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Lisa A. Thompson of Union; a son Dwayne Clark of Newberry; two grandchildren, P. Martin Thompson, II of Fredericksburg, VA and Tyler Clark of Boiling Springs; one great-grandson, Ryder B. Hafner; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Will Bailey reared in the home; one sister, Margaretann Jamerson of Inman; two brothers, Boyd Clark of Jonesville and Billy Joe Clark of Inman.  Mr. Clark was predeceased by two brothers, Hames Clark and Wade Clark; and two sisters, Betty Lou Bogan and Elnora Garner.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 25, 2016, at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Steve Lemons.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mariko Shiki Browning, age 79, widow of Wallace Richard Browning, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Rosewood Assisted Living in Pauline.

Mrs. Browning was born in Nagasaki, Japan, August 7, 1936. She and Mr. Browning were married in Japan, May 28, 1958 and soon afterward made their home in the United States. Mrs. Browning was a devoted wife and homemaker.

Surviving are a niece, Elaine W. Crocker and husband Danny, four nephews, Rickey Stamie, Woody Waldrop, Robert Waldrop and Danny Waldrop and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 25, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Travis King.  Burial will be at Whitmire Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home prior to the services.

Harold Dean Henderson

Mr. Harold Dean Henderson age 81, husband of Vera Keisler Henderson of 107 Brookside Dr., Union, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Union Medical Center.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, December 22, 1934, a son of the late Jack C. and Lucille Lovings Henderson. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and member of Ottaray Baptist Church.  Mr. Henderson was retired from the US Air Force. He was a member of the Union Masonic Lodge No. 75, Scottish Rite, Union Shrine Club, Union Elks Club and was an avid Clemson fan.  Mr.  Henderson was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Joe Henderson and wife Cindy of Huntsville, AL; a granddaughter, Amber O’Connor and husband Sean of Seattle, WA; and a grandson, Joseph Henderson, Jr. of Huntsville, AL.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 22, 2016 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Walter Holcombe.

Visitation will be held immediately following the graveside services.

Mr. Joseph Thomas “Joe” Harris, age 74, of 1518 Peach Orchard Rd., Union, widower of Sarah Ochiltree Harris, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Harris was born in Union, February 24, 1941, a son of the late Robert Marshall Harris and Ruby Vinson Harris. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from Torrington Co., Tyger River and had previously worked with Milliken and Co. and EMMD.  Mr. Harris was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna H. Ford and husband Roger and Leigh Ann Harris all of Union; a son, Joey Dale Harris and wife Mary of Union; three sisters, Brenda Harris and Sherry H. Hodge both of Union and Judy Phillips of Dallas, TX; one brother, Danny Harris of Union; grandchildren, Heather Harris, Kelsey Harris, Christopher Bouleware, Kyle O’Shields, Joseph Sawyer and Anna Rose Sawyer and great-grandchildren, Madison Gantt, Jordan O’Shields and Callie O’Shields.  Mr. Harris was predeceased by two brothers, John Robert Harris and Paul Kenneth Harris.

Mr. Danny Reece Catoe, Sr., age 71, husband of Sandra Sulton Catoe of 114 Woodwinds Trail, Union, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Catoe was born in Union, June 3, 1944, a son of the late Ray Catoe and Bessie Garner Catoe. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Gaines Motor Lines Trucking Company. Mr. Catoe was a member of Enoree First Freewill Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the church choir and served as choir director and choir soloist.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 52 years are two daughters: Bonita Denese Graham and husband Chris of Union and Melissa Smith of Travelers Rest; a son, Danny Reece Catoe, Jr. and wife Sheila of York; two brothers: Jerry Catoe and wife Patricia of Sprtanburg and Jesse Catoe and wife Susan of Matthews, N.C.; one sister, Mary Lou Black of Enoree; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a number of special nieces and nephews. Mr. Catoe was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Kathleen and Harvey Sulton.

The family is going to have a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Enoree First Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Billy Vanderford.

Mr. James William “Jim” Moore, Jr., age 49 of 4460 Lockhart Hwy., Union, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016.

Mr. Moore was born in Lockhart, October 26, 1966, a son of the late James W. Moore, Sr. and Jessie “Dibbie” Cameron Moore. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and formerly employed with the City of Union.  Mr. Moore was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Shirley M. McCloud and husband Rick with whom he made his home, and Edna M. Chapman of Lake Murray; two nieces, Hedi Gillian and Miranda M. Chavis; and three nephews, Christopher Rogers, Rick McCloud, Jr. and Johnny Chapman.  Mr. Moore was predeceased by a sister, Iris M. Rogers.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Mr. Christian Lane Gibson, age 20 of 1010 Canal Street, Lockhart, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Gibson was born in Union, SC May 14, 1995, a son Jennifer Daniell Martin of Central and Jamie Leboron Gibson. He was a member of Lockhart Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a step-mother, Amanda Thomason Gibson; two sisters: Shelby Gibson and Cheyanne Gibson all of Lockhart; a brother, Cameron Drew Farr of Lake Murray; grandparents; Carol Ann Martin of Lockhart and Richard Allen Martin of Lockhart; a special aunt, Amy Martin of Lockhart and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Mr. Theron Eugene “Curly” Carter, age 85, husband of  Virginia Black “Gen” Carter of 202 Wilbur St., Union, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mr. Carter was born in Union, July 23, 1930, a son of the late Harold and Ruth Alman Carter and Millie Turner Carter. He was retired from United Merchants, having worked in the Union Plant and the Conway Plant.  He was member of New Life Baptist Church where had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a Greeter.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Donna Carter Bodie and husband Carl of Conway; a son, Danny Carter of Union; granddaughters, Dana Carter Privette of Murrells Inlet, Kelly Carter Skaggs and husband Andrew of Columbia, and Gennifer and Kaytie Bodie of Conway; a great-granddaughter, Luna Skaggs of Columbia; three sisters, Margie Cannon of Union, Mary Upton and husband Carroll of Buffalo and Ruth Robinson of Jonesville; three brothers, Dean Carter, Francis Carter and wife Linda all of Union and Bobby Carter and wife Janice of Buffalo, a brother-in-law, Dean Black and wife Mavis of Applevalley, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Carter was predeceased by a brother, J.T. Carter and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Carter.

Mrs. Rebecca Little Garner, age 82 wife of Kedrick Garner of 185 Deerhaven Rd., Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Garner was born in Kelton, SC on April 13, 1933 a daughter of the late W.J. Little and Grace Kitchens Little.  She was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School.  Mrs. Garner worked alongside her husband as secretary of Union Power and Equipment.  She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist, and was a member of the Judy Hayes Sunday School Class. 

Surviving in addition to her husband of 63 years are a son, Bill Garner of Jonesville; a sister, Ann Adams of Santuc; a brother, Alan Little and wife Joan of Jonesville; grandchildren, Lindsey Kirby and husband Aaron, Kimmy Garner and Christopher Garner.  She was predeceased by three sons, David Garner, Richard Garner, and Bob Garner.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 15, 2016 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Alan West and Rev. Carl Harris.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Earl “Pops” O’Shields, Sr., age 69, husband of Kay McCraw O’Shields of 210 Drugstore St., Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. O’Shields was born in Union, September 14, 1946, a son of the late Robert and Minnie Gault.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Jetliner Printing in Gaffney.  Mr. O’Shields was a dedicated volunteer with the Friends of Whitten Center and was also an avid Clemson fan. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Stephanie O’Shields of Union; two sons, Thomas O’Shields of Union and James Moore and wife Sarah of Gaffney; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Mr. O’Shields was predeceased by a son Steven Moore.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date by the family.

Mrs.  Amy Belcher Painter, age 45, wife of Kenneth Painter of 765 Rogerstown Rd., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Mrs. Painter was born in Bluefield, West Virginia a daughter of Harold Belcher and wife Sue Belcher of Richmond, VA and Connie Hill Wynn of Jonesville.  She was a graduate of Chase High School and Limestone College in the Winter of 2004. Mrs. Painter worked for the Cherokee County School District as a Teacher.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Josh Lowery and wife Callie and Jacob Painter all of Spartanburg;  a stepson, Blake Painter and wife Kortni of Boiling Springs;  three sisters, Missie Taylor of Pacolet, Dawn Hames (David) of Jonesville, and Cigi Wynn of Spartanburg; one granddaughter, Adelynne Painter of Boiling Springs.  She was predeceased by one son, Jonathan Lowery.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, January 15, 2016 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Jason Hill.  Visitation will be held following the services.

Mr. Julian Hames Ivey, age 79, beloved husband of Freida Spake Ivey of 101 Charlesworth Ave., Union, passed away, Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Ivey was born in Jonesville, June 5, 1936, a son of Violet Lipsey Ivey, who will soon be 101 years old, and the late Coley B. Ivey.  Mr. Ivey was retired as a supervisor from Milliken and Co. and had also served as plant manager of Conso Product.  He was a veteran of the US Army having been stationed with his wife in Darmstadt, Germany, in the early 1960’s.  He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a dedicated Sunday School teacher.  He had served as President of the Union Shine Club and was a dedicated supporter of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Mr. Ivey was also a member of the Union  Elks Lodge.  He was always interested in history and loved to watch western and war movies on television. Mr. Ivey was also an avid Carolina Gamecock fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Susan Ivey Cunningham and husband Jamy and their son, Jay Cunningham; a son, Randy Ivey; two sisters, Mary Price and Mertice Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Thursday, January 14, 2015, at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman.  Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:30 PM at the church prior to the services.

Mr. Terry Allen Austin, age 61, husband of Lisa Rash Austin of 214 Wilbur St., Union, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Austin was born in Union, November 29, 1954, a son of the late Johnny and Carolyn Bright Austin and was reared in the home of his maternal grandparents, the late Travis and Nellie Bright.  Mr. Austin was employed with Timken and Co. in Union.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Penny Austin and two grandchildren, Austin Vaughan and Morgan Vaughan.

Mrs. Gibbs was born in Buffalo, September 18, 1925, a daughter of the late John T. and Bertie Dobbins Bright. She was retired from United Merchant, Buffalo Plant and had formerly worked at Mid-Way BBQ.  Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a member of the Rachel McManus Sunday School class.

Surviving are a son, Bobby Joe Gibbs and wife Eveline of Union; two brothers, Bobby Ray Bright and wife Marilyn of Union and Tommy Bright and wife Anne of Clyde, NC; two granddaughters, Angie Barber and husband David and Shannon Rector and husband Tony; five great-grandchildren: Dillon and Tyler Barber and Courtney, Cole, and Cassidy Rector; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibbs was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman.

Mr. Danny Eugene Malone, age 61, loving husband of Terri Stokes Malone of 111 Churchill St., Union, joined his heavenly Father on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Malone was born, November 3, 1954 a son of the late Vesta Malone Boyter.  Growing up in the Whitmire community, Danny was a kind man with a heart full of love for his family.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Danny loved his Lord and served him graciously. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and was long-time employee of Cone Mill, Carlisle Plant.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Michael Steven Malone and friend Eleni of Whitmire; two stepsons, Joseph Chastain of Union and Lee Chastain and wife Mandy of Moore; two sisters, Carolyn Boland and husband Albert of Little Mountain and Donna Malone Bunch of Arizona; a brother, Bill Boyter and wife Susan of Clinton; grandchildren, Brittneigh, Jameson, Daisy, Tyler, Jonathan, Drew and Christian; his mother-in-law, Betty Stokes of Union; brothers-in-law, Tommy Stokes and wife Robin of Newberry and Chris Stokes and friend Pam Welch of Carlisle; aunts, Joy Malone-Ridlehuber and husband Mark and Dorothy Bunch and husband David; special friend, Donald Boulware of Whitmire; his beloved pet dog, Brody and numerous nieces and nephews.  Danny was predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Malone.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Adamsburg, June 28, 1939, a daughter of the late Herbert and Lois Adams Farr.  She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Winthrop College.  Mrs. Lawson retired after 40 plus years with Milliken and Co. and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Carla Martin and husband Greg, and Caron Jones and fiancée Joe Deguzman all of Moore; three grandchildren, Catherine Renfro and husband Chris of Alpharetta, GA, Kimberly Guthzeit and husband Thomas and Rachel Jones all of Moore; one great-grandson, Isaac Renfro. Mrs. Lawson was predeceased by a grandson, Barrett Martin and a sister, Reba F. Montgomery.

Mrs. Scott was born in Chester, July 31, 1939, a daughter of the late Claude William Parkins and Neely Frances Clack Parkins.  She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and worked with Liberty Life Insurance as an agent for eleven years. After retirement, Mrs. Parkins owned and operated Lizabeth’s Womens Apparel in Chester. Shewas a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church where she worked with the Children’s Ministry of the church.

Surviving are a two daughters, Danette Parker and husband Dusty of Chester and Carol Ann Fisher and husband Kevin of Union; a son, Lynn Scott of Texas; two brothers, Roy Parkins and wife Brenda of Sharon and Jimmy Parkins and wife Brenda of Jonesville; a granddaughter, Bethany Henderson of Union and a grandson, Chase Parker of Chester and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Parkins was predeceased by a daughter, Beth Scott Pressly, two sisters, Lillie Frances Parkins and Ellen Ruth Parkins, and by six brothers, Jeff, Frank, Ervin, Tommy William and Jack Parkins.

Mr. Watts was born in Union, September 27, 1956, a son of Ollie Mae West Watts Brock of Buffalo and the late James Watts.  He was a retired construction worker and was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Michaela Watts; a son, Dusty Watts both of the home; three sisters, Peggy Judy of Union, Linda Harrold of Oklahoma, Mary Long of Iowa; three brothers, Pete Judy of Buffalo, Ray Watts and Kavin Watts both of Kansas; a step-sisters, Terri Filler of North Carolina.  Mr. Watts was predeceased by a sister Karen “Kay” Hensel.

Mrs. Black was born in Union, June 28, 1931, a daughter of the late William “Buster” Youngblood and Virgie Petty Youngblood. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.  Mrs. Black was loving wife, mother and Nana, who was active in her church and the community as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are a daughter, Vickie B. Sloan; two sons, Kenneth R. Black and wife Tami and Ben Ryan Black, III all of Union; two sisters, Norma Olsen of Spartanburg and Brenda O’Dell of Buffalo, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Josh Black and wife Katie and their daughter, Stella, Taylor Black and wife Drew, Emily Black and Thomas Paul Sloan.

Mr. Jennings was born in Union, SC September 9, 1947, a son of the late Al Jennings, Sr. and Doris Blakely Jennings. He retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church.

Surviving are two step-sons: Ricky O’Shields and wife Teresa of Union and Darrell O’Shields and wife Stacey of Cowpens; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters: Clara Groves and husband Tony and Christine Walton and husband Jerry all of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Jennings was predeceased by a sister, Brenda Kay Jennings and a brother, Terry Jennings.

Mrs. Franklin was born in Union, SC April 11, 1941, a daughter of the late William Johnson and Ada Carter Johnson. She was a 1959 graduate of Union High School and was of the Methodist Faith. Mrs. Franklin was previously employed with Walmart and Hardees.

Surviving are two daughters: Anna “Lisa” Plemons and husband Jerry of Union and Sue Moss and husband Joey of Irmo; a son,  Ben Franklin and wife Mona of Buffalo; two sisters: Barbara Black of Jonesville and Elizabeth Cooksey and husband James of PA; three brothers: Carl Carter and wife Agnes of Union, Sonny Johnson and wife Lucille of Jonesville and Charles Johnson of Columbia; grandchildren: Alexys  and Jesse Plemons, Mary Beth and Sydney Moss and Corey and Ashley Register and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Taft was born in Union, July 26, 1951, a daughter of the late Jack and Ethel Southerland McGlothan. She was formerly employed with Conso Products and was currently working as a caregiver. Mrs. Taft was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandy Williams of Laurens; two sisters, Joyce Dawkins of Jonesville and Nancy Phillips of Union, a granddaughter, Brittni Lawson of the home; a grandson Tyler Lawson and fiancée Cody Horne of Jonesville; special friends, Ken Peake of Asheville, NC, Mary Edwards of Union, Rita Smith and Janet Bogan both of Jonesville. Mrs. Taft was predeceased by three sisters, Brenda Carter, Libby Gardin, Wanda McDermott.

Mrs. Mary Robinson Erwin, age 90, of 396 Riley Road, Buffalo, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Erwin was born in Union, SC on March 12, 1925 a daughter of the late G.H.L Robinson and Maggie Bell Davis Robinson.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Union Mill.  Mrs. Erwin was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church where she was a former Primary Sunday School Teacher for over 30 years and was active in the WMU of the church.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, W.C. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2016 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Lynn Ford.  Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaffney.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ferol Morris Turner Kelley, widow of W.B. Kelley, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Brookview Health Care Center in Gaffney.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Union, a daughter of the late Monroe and Myrtle Johns Morris. She attended Union Co. Schools and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Kelley was retired from NAPA Auto Parts in Clinton as an office administrator. She was first married to the late O.L. Turner.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Turner Wilson of Rock Hill; a son, O.L. “Butch” Turner, Jr. and wife Pamela of Florence; a sister, Lucille Putnam and a brother, Raymond Morris both of Union; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Kelley was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon “Demo” Morris and James E. “Skillet” Morris.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Franklin D. “Buddy” Morris.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside services.

Mrs. Renee Davis Wilburn, age 53, wife of William V. “Bill” Wilburn of 115 Lancaster Dr., Union, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Wilburn was born in Union, April 27, 1962 the daughter of Jerry Wayne and Judy Smith Davis of Union.  She was a proud graduate of Union High School and was always involved in reunions to keep in touch with her classmates. Mrs. Wilburn attended USC-Union and USC-Upstate having studied accounting. She was formerly employed with Provident Community Bank and was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a son, Jake Wilburn of the home; two sisters, Tracy Connelly and husband Mickey, and Lisa Heatherly and husband David all of Union and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. John Lee.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

Olin D. Lee, Sr.

Mr. Olin D. Lee, Sr., age 80, of 1005 E. Main St., Union, widower of Shirley Smith Lee, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Lee was born in Lockhart, SC on January 19, 1935 a son of the late Russell Lee and Oda Belle Cook Lee.  He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College.  Mr. Lee was a retired from Union Mill as an Electrician and from Union County Schools as a custodian.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War in Okinawa.  Mr. Lee was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he was a willing servant for his Lord and served on numerous committees and was also as a Sunday school teacher and a certified Lay Speaker.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Elisa Jane Simpson of the home; a son Russ Lee and wife Dena of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Kristen Motts, Brandy Simpson and husband Corey, Matt Etling, and Robert Landon Etling; three great grandchildren, Lily Amalie, and Corey, III.  He was predeceased by one son, Del Lee; one grandson, Kent Lee; two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 12:45 PM until 1:45 PM at the church prior to the services.

Mrs. Nancy Ann Aycock Morris Garner, wife of Larry Garner, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Garner was born in Jonesville, SC October 20, 1935, a daughter of Edmund Eison  and Lula Fowler Aycock. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joe Dorin Morris, a son, John Franklin Morris, a sister, Deda Aycock Ruscitto, two brothers, Albert H. Aycock and States Rights Aycock.

Mrs. Garner is survived in addition to her husband by a daughter, Joan M. Crocker and husband Paul; two sons, Joel E. Morris and wife Barbara, James C. Morris and wife Sandy; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Garner attended Jonesville area schools and graduated Jonesville High School. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK.  Mrs. Garner belonged to Jonesville United Methodist Church where she was a MYF Leader, Ladies Sunday School Teacher and had worked for Jonesville area schools. She retired from Milliken Packaging and had been a life guard and manager of the Jonesville Swimming Pool. Mrs. Garner was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and The United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Jonesville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dr. Harold Wales Wood, II, husband of Cindy Wynn Wood of 232 Christopher Lane, Union, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 1, 2016.

Dr. Wood was born in Davenport, Iowa, a son of the late Dr. Harold Wales Wood, Sr. and Kathaleen Jones Wood. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and a 1976 graduate of Sherman College of Chiropractic. This was the first graduating class of Sherman College. Dr. Wood was the owner and operator of Wood Chiropractic Clinic and was formerly employed with Belue Chiropractic Clinic. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church. Dr. Wood was a talented singer who enjoyed gospel music, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many who will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife of seventeen years are sons: Harold Wales “Trey” Wood, II and wife Sherri and their children, Austin and Dylan Wood, Christopher Ashley Wood all of Barnwell, Justin Addis and wife Stacy and their children, Ethan Parker and Ashley Parker Crisp all of Jonesville and Jayden Peterson of the home; a sister, Pat Wood Norton of Spartanburg; a brother, William Bart Wood of Boiling Springs; two great-grandchildren, Adelyn and Parker Crisp and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Eddie Saxon. Burial will be in Jonesville Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Reba Farr Montgomery, age 91, formerly of Adamsburg, widow of Clifton S. Montgomery passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Heartland of Union.

Mrs. Montgomery was born in Winchester, TN on May 13, 1924 a daughter of the late Herbert Farr and Lois Adams Farr.  She was a graduate of Winthrop College and was retired after 41 years from Union County Schools as a teacher.  Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and was active in all phases of church life as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are a sister, Carol F. Lawson of Pauline; two nieces, Carla Martin and husband Greg of Moore and Caron Jones of Moore; three great nieces, Rachel Jones, Catherine Renfro and husband Chris, and Kimberly Guthzert and husband Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews on the Montgomery side.  She was predeceased by a great nephew Barrett Martin.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Price was born in Union, SC August 28, 1975, a son of Paul Cook Vaughn and Mary Price Vaughn of Union. He was a graduate of Union High School and was employed with Milliken & Co – Cedar Hill Plant.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sons: Dominic Price and Coby Price both of Minnesota; a brother, Jeffrey Price and wife Amy of Union; three step-sisters: Kelly Price of Lockhart, Janet Rutledge of Union and Roxanne Baker of Charleston; a step-brother, Brad Vaughn of Union; a special girlfriend, Tiffany Kuchynka of Minnesota; a special aunt, Carolyn Patrick of Union and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Smith was born in Union, SC December 16, 1976, a daughter of Ernest Franklin Vinson and Trina Howell Vinson of Union. She was a graduate of Union High School and ITT Technical College with a degree in Criminal Justice. Ms. Smith was formerly employed with Renfro Industries. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church

Surviving in addition to her parents are a son, Dillon Scott Smith; a daughter-in-law, Niyoke Kennedy both of Union; three grandchildren: Audriauna Michelle Smith, Jayden Scott Smith and Nyiauna Kennedy; a brother, Michael Shane Howell; a mother-in-law, Rita Jean Smith; adoptive parents: Beth & Bud Broom; her sissy, Kelly Crowe and husband Samuel; nephew and niece,  Noah & Macie Crowe; cousins, Bob and Brenda Wilkins;  special cousins, Derrick Johnson and Mitchell Benton; great-aunts, Katherine Palmer and Joan Witherington; a special friend, Jo Ann Morris. Ms. Smith was predeceased by an aunt, Belinda Darlene Johnson, grandparents, Tommy Howell and Mamie, Lou Kendrick, Nina Pearl Shetley and Juanita Wilkins and a great-aunt Myrt Laws.

Mr. Brent Lee Tessnear, age 36, of 112 Oak St., Cowpens, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015.

Mr. Tessnear was born in Spartanburg, January 14, 1979, a son of Lee Edward Tessnear of Pacolet and the late Shirley Ann Blackwell Tessnear.  He was employed with Tindall Concrete in Spartanburg and was formerly a Baptist Minister.  Mr. Tessnear was a gifted musician, singer and songwriter.

Surviving in addition to his father are four daughters, Heather Tessnear, Bethany Tessnear, Aaliya Tessnear and Miyah Tessnear all of Pacolet; two sons, Brett Tessnear of Cowpens and Caden Tessnear of Pacolet; two sisters, Bridget Miller of Spartanburg and Brianna Tessnear of Pacolet and a brother, Jacob Till of Cowpens.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 4, 2016 at Pacolet United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Joey Wampler.
