Mary Peigler Barnwell

Mrs. Mary Peigler Barnwell, age 83, formerly of Union, widow of Jerry Barnwell, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Valley Falls Terrace.

Mrs. Barnwell was born July 6, 1935 in Union, a daughter of the late Leonard and Viola Gibson Peigler.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Sonoco.  Mrs. Barnwell was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. 

Surviving are three special cousins, Patsy Shetley and husband David, Kenneth Peigler and wife Ann, and Bobby Hawkins all of Union; and many other cousins. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2019 at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Ross Wilson.  Visitation will be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, P.O. Box 37, Union, SC 29379.

Harold David West
Buffalo, S.C.


Mr. Harold David West, age 59 of 509 Drugstore St., Buffalo, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center,

Mr. West was born in Union, October 24, 1959, a son of the late Elbert Sumner West and Barbara Etta Brock West.  He worked construction along side his father at West Construction Co. and was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Hayes West of the home; a daughter, April W. Dobbs; a son, Channing West; a step-son, Danny Atchley all of Union; a sister, Mary Lee Judy of Buffalo; a brother, Bobby West of Union; eight grandchildren; a special “granddaughter”, Keyaira Smith reared in the home and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Evelyn B. Connelly
Clinton, S.C.


Mrs. Evelyn Bernice Wilburn Connelly, age 96, widow of Leo Connelly, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at NHC-Clinton.

Mrs. Connelly was born in Del Reo, TN, September 27, 1922, a daughter of Austin John Wilburn and Stella Baker Wilburn. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and retired as a secretary with the A.B. Dick Co., in Chicago, IL. Mrs. Connelly was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Union and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by two nieces, Sylvia Kernells of Clinton and Edna J. Smoak of Laurens.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Bill Bryson.


Phillip Jefferson “Jeff” Lambert
Whitmire, SC

January 20, 1942 - February 25, 2019

Mr. Phillip Jefferson “Jeff” Lambert, age 77, husband of Patsy Lambert of 6330 Whitmire Hwy., Whitmire, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at his home.

God blessed us with the best husband and daddy anyone could ever ask for. Jeff and Patsy Lambert were best friends and married for 58 years. They were the ultimate example of a loving, Christian relationship. God blessed them with two children, Monica Lambert Turner of Union, and Scott Lambert of Clinton; two grandsons, Michael Bradley Sutton and his wife Kelly, and Keith Edward Turner, all of Anderson; one great-grandson, Trevor Canada and wife Chelsea, and great-great-grandson Carson, of Williamsburg, KY. 

Jeff had two brothers, Dan Lambert (Joyce) of Simpsonville, Norman Lambert (Linda) of Newberry; three sisters, Phyllis Surrett of Clinton, Joyce Patterson (Tommy) of Laurens and the late Beatrice Sparks of Texas. His parents were the late Phillip and Gladys Lambert of Laurens.

He was a faithful child of God and attended Redemption Baptist Church in Enoree. He traveled and sang gospel music with his family for 31 years. Jeff was retired from Santee Cooper Power Company.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Whitmire Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday night also at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

The family will be at the home, 6330 Whitmire Hwy., Whitmire.


Beuna C. Inman
Union, SC


Mrs. Beuna Chambers Inman, age 87, of 106 Fant Lane, widow of James Hay Fant “Hady” Inman, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Inman was born March 28, 1931 in Union, a daughter of the late James Norman Chambers and Anna Mitchell Chambers. She attended Union High School and retired from the Union County Council on Aging. Mrs. Inman was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Torance Inman and wife Bernice with whom she made her home; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Holcombe and husband Walter of Union; a sister, Gwendolyn Fisher of Buffalo; three granddaughters, Angela Inman, Amanda Inman Gallman and husband Jeremy, and Lisa Inman Mullins; eight great-grandchildren, Christen E. Mayes and husband Jake, Savannah England, Caroline England, Norah Gallman, Joseph Gallman, Michael Foster, Hailey Mullins, and Brayden Mullins; two very special friends, Elaine Burgess and Joetta Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, James Hay Fant Inman, Jr., a granddaughter, Regina Inman England, and seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ross Wilson.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:30 until 3:00 at the church prior to the services.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Gallman, Jamison England, Michael Foster, Walter Holcombe, Phillip Fisher and Mark Lancaster.

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Sylvia and Gonzale Childers, Elaine Burgess, Joetta Edwards, Eddie Hulon, Dave Pursel, members of the Juanita Crocker’s Sunday School Class and the nurses and caregivers of Cresent Hospice.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” the staff and nurses of Cresent Hospice for their care and love of Mrs. Inman during her illness.

Donald R. Sprouse

Mr. Donald Ralph Sprouse age 80, of North First St., Lockhart, widower of Judy Mincey Sprouse, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Sprouse was born in Lockhart, March 30, 1938, a son of the late Ralph and Violet Garner Sprouse. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from Milliken and Co., Lockhart Plant. Mr. Sprouse was an avid golfer.

Surviving are a sister, Judy Cameron of Jonesville, two nieces, Renee Denton of Union and Cynthia Parton of Converse; and a number of great nieces and nephews including Kelsey Granger of Union.  Mr. Sprouse was predeceased by a son David Sprouse.

A graveside memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Lockhart Cemetery.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Sara Ann Inabinett Settle
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Sara Ann Inabinett Settle, age 81, formerly of Bermuda Dr., Union, widower of Harold Dean Settle passed away Monday, February 18, 2019.

Mrs. Settle was born in Union, December 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Archie Thomas Inabinett and Frances Allen Inabinett. She was a 1955 graduate of Union High School and a graduate of Cecil’s Business School. Throughout her lifetime, she worked for the Union County Schools (Buffalo), Union County Clerk of Court’s Office and retired from the Union County Health Department.  Mrs. Settle was a lifelong active member of Buffalo United Methodist Church and was a member of the Eva Sanders Circle and James Whitehead Sunday School class.

Mrs. Settle was a beach-loving, doting “Mother” and confidante to so many young people, family and friends throughout the years.  She was a very special lady to those who knew her well.

She is survived by several cousins: Jimmy Sykes, Gerald Inabinet, James Inabinet, Mary Brooks, Jimmy Cheek, Becky Billings and Pam Farmer. Mrs. Settle was predeceased by her daughter, Paula Ann Settle who passed away in 2005. She was also predeceased by a special friend Wilton McGowan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Miriam Mick. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck Malone, Ben Wages, Eric Billings, Kevin McGowan, Ed Wages and Benjamin Wages.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Harold Dean Hammett
Pacolet, S.C.


Mr. Harold Dean Hammett, age 84, of 295 Limestone St., Pacolet, widower of Ethel Jane Carroll Hammett, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Hammett was born in Kings Mountain, NC, May 23, 1934, a son of the late Oscar and Estelle Parker Hammett. He was retired from Milliken and Co., Magnolia Finishing Plant and was a veteran of the US Marine Corp having served in the Korean War.

Surviving are three daughters, Shelley Fleming and husband Shane and Sherry Nolen all of Pacolet, and Sandy Hammett of CA; one son, Dean Hammett of Pacolet; one brother, Wilson Hammett of Kings Mountain, NC; eight grandchildren, Curt Nolen, Brandon Nolen, Ray Wyland, Sean Wyland, Adam Wyland, Sarah Doherty, Chris Bradley and Shana Fleming; and four great-grandchildren, Evan Wyland, Logan Nolen, Caitlin Jane Nolen and Ryder Foster.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 295 Limestone St., Pacolet and at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Debra Ann “Debbie” Gwinn
Union, SC


Friends of Debra Ann Gwinn (Debbie) are invited to celebrate her life with her family on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Dr. Randy Pettit and Mr. Shon Morris. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Debbie, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 15, 2019.

The oldest of four daughters she was born to L.P. and Blanche Gwinn on October 23, 1953. She was a 1972 graduate of Union High School.  Debbie had an immense love for her parents, sisters and their families. She was a devoted fan of Willie Nelson and southern gospel music.  Debbie delighted in going to gospel singings with her good friends, Shon and Beverly Morris, but what she enjoyed most was being at home with her family.

Debbie was predeceased by her Daddy, L.P. Gwinn and her fur baby, Nelson. She is survived by her mother, Blanche Gwinn, of the home. She is also survived by her immediate family. Denise and Mike West, Donna and Johnny Kimbrell, Darlene and Tony Archuleta, Robin Campbell, Ashli “Bones” and Kevin Vanderford, Amber and Jason Ezell, Heather “Rube” and Craig Seay, Christopher West, Jadyn Kimbrell, Grayam Vanderford, Savana Seay, Ava Ezell, Reese Vanderford, and Wylder Seay. And two special fur babies Roxy and Blu.

Rachel LeMaster Mitchell
Matthews, NC


Mrs. Rachel LeMaster Mitchell, 82, widow of Claude M. Mitchell, Jr., was granted her angel’s wings February 14, 2019 at Carrington Place in Matthews NC.

Mrs. Mitchell was born May 3, 1936 in Spartanburg.  She attended Union High School but graduated from Spartanburg High School. In May of 1954 she married Claude M Mitchell Jr. of Union. As a young couple, they moved to Washington and then back to SC.  Mrs. Mitchell worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union and later for several private practices in the Charlotte area.  She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2007. Since the passing of her husband in 2014, she resided in the Charlotte area at Charlotte Square and lastly at Carrington Place.

Surviving are a son, Claude M Mitchell III of Matthews NC and a daughter, Krystine Mitchell Hughes of Broomfield CO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Bauknight.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Richard David “Rick” Gregory

Mr. Richard David “Rick” Gregory, age 55, of 680 Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Gregory was born July 30, 1963 in Tampa, Florida a son of Shirllene Meggs Gregory of Jonesville and the late Harold Thomas Gregory.  He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and Winthrop University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business.  Mr. Gregory was a Veteran of the United States Army.  He was a Ham Radio Operator.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Mary Shue and husband Don of Concord, NC; two nephews, Ben and Nick Shue of Concord, NC; and two great-nephews.  He was predeceased by one sister, Martha Gregory and one brother Tommy Gregory.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz.

Visitation will be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Mrs. Dorothy Owensby “Dot” Crocker, age 83 of 201 Westville Street, Buffalo, widow of Leroy Crocker, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Crocker was born in Union, SC April 11, 1935, a daughter of the late Grady D. Owensby and Flora Cope Owensby. She was a faithful member of Buffalo Baptist Church  where she was a member of the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Crocker of the home; two sons: Ernest Crocker and wife Cindy of Union and Todd Pridemore and wife Dawn of Missouri; four grandchildren: Lindsey Crocker of Newberry, Brittany P. Kelly of Spartanburg, Marla Pridemore and Josh Pridemore both of Union; great-grandchildren: David, Breyona, and Eli Johnson of Union and Nevaeh and Craig Crocker of Union. Mrs. Crocker was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Crocker, three sisters, Alice Harris, Mary Sue Bailey and Florence Gist and brothers, Roy, Johnny, Clarence, Grady and Fred Owensby.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 11, 2019 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Phillip Ray Long
Rock Hill, SC


Mr. Phillip Ray “PR” Long, 60, of Rock Hill, SC  passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019.

Mr. Long was born in Lee County, NC to the late Joseph Ray Long and Evelyn McLawhorn Long. PR was veteran serving in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate 1st Class. Mr. Long was employed with Estes Trucking in South Carolina, was an avid golfer, loved the Carolina Panthers, the Tar Heels  and NASCAR Racing. PR was considered the life of the party, dancing around (known by many as “American Legend”) and the family knew him as the Grill Master.

Mr. Long “PR” is survived by his wife, Cynthia Ivey Long (formerly of Union); his son, Donald Ray Long (Elizabeth) of Broadway and daughter, Michelle Cleary (Jeremy) of Sanford; grandchildren: Harrison Ray Long, Hudson Grant Long, Mary Elizabeth Cleary and Kevin Nicholas Cleary; sisters: Peggy Makepeace of Seven Lakes, Patsy Todd (Jerry) of Memphis, TN, Paula Sue Odagaki of Canada; and a brother, Paul Long of FL.

Margaret Sprouse Wade

Mrs. Margaret Sprouse Wade, age 89, widow of Charles Darrell Wade passed away, Friday, February 8, 2019, at her home after years of declining health. 

Mrs. Wade was born July 14, 1929, a daughter of the late John Thomas Sprouse and Alma Price Sprouse Wix. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for over 50 years and was known as the “candy lady”. 

Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Wade and wife Gena and Roger Wade and wife Sara all of Union; a daughter Patti Lawson and husband Jerry of Buffalo; a sister Judy Bobo; eight grandchildren: Khristy Wade, Chip Wade, Amanda Horne and husband Tony, Alison Coker and husband Cyle, Sammy White and wife Jill, Brandi Hurtado and husband Tony, Brad Lawson and wife Heather, and Jami Trammell and husband Dennis;  sixteen great-grandchildren:  Christina, Jessica, Larissa, Abi, Cade, Hannah Cali, Christopher, Brandon, Cheyanne, Brianna, Haley, Allie, Harlee, Ryan, Kaya, & Conley; a special caregiver and friend Vonda Morris; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a grandson Eric Wade; two great-grandsons Brett Wade and Taylor Wade; a great granddaughter Hannah Hurtado; four brothers Robert Sprouse, Marvin Earl Sprouse, Donald Sprouse, and J. W. Sprouse; two sisters Dorothy Faulks and Barbara Bishop.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 11, 2019 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge, Rev. Benny Green, and Rev. Shawn Ingle.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chip Wade, Tony Horne, Cyle Coker, Sammy White, Brad Lawson, Mark Wade, Robin Price, & Joe Wade. 

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Cecil O’ Neil Shetley, age 59, husband of Cheryl McBee Shetley, of 3101 Whitmire Hwy., Union, passed away, Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Advent Health Orlando.

Neil was born September 2, 1959 in Union, a son of Shirley Campbell Fowler of Chesnee and the late Cecil Eugene Shetley.  He was a 1977 graduate of Union High School and was retired after 35 years from Michelin.  Neil was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother and her husband Finley D. Fowler are, two daughters, Brandy Shetley Letson and husband Mark of Cashiers, NC and Tyger Shetley Yount and husband Steven of Union; four grandchildren, Ella Delaney Yount, Jacquline Cecilia Letson, Edyn O’Neil Yount, and Nolan Jacob Yount; a niece, Candice Marie Turner of Union; a step-sister, Dana D. Fowler; and two step-brothers, Ricky D. Fowler and wife Tina of Greer and M. Scott Fowler of Taylors.  He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Eugene Shetley and a granddaughter, Madden Campbell Letson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 8, 2019 at Lakeside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Oliver Grant “Ollie” Cullum, age 6 days, infant son of Robert William Cullum and Elise Collins Cullum of 111 New Hope Church Rd., Jonesville, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Olllie was born January 28, 2019.

Surviving in addition to his parents are: two brothers, William Cullum and Noah Grimes; maternal grandparents, Charles and Melony Medford Warner; maternal great-grandmother, Linda Medford all of Jonesville and his god-mother, Celeste Gregory of Spartanburg.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2019 at New Hope Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Ivey.

Our beloved Jewel Vinson Lee Blakely passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, February 1, 2019. Jewel was the much beloved wife of Bobby F. Blakely, Sr. of four years.

Mrs. Blakely was born in Union, September 17, 1931, a daughter of the late Adams B. Vinson and Racine Allred Vinson. She was retired from Boyd Company where she served as a Residential Manager and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Ronnie Lee and wife Linda of Lake Murray, Prosperity, Randy Lee and wife Roxanne of Union and Mark Lee and wife Melissa of Lake Murray, Newberry; an adopted grandson, Rocky Lee and wife Valerie of Union; a step son, Bobby Blakely, Jr. and wife Nancy of Elgin; five grandchildren: Lori Beth Lee, Chrissy Lee, Mary Anne Seagle, Jennifer Lynn Silvers, and  Lacy Thompson; four step-grandchildren: Meranda Vieregge, Austin Vieregge, Alex Vieregge and Stevie Cabiness; and seven great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Blakely was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm (Mack) Lee.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn and Rev. Kimmett Lott.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the services.

Mrs. Betty Garner Harvey, age 86, passed away February 1, 2019 at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg.

A native of Jonesville, Mrs. Harvey was the wife of the late Francis Stehle Harvey and the daughter of the late Davis Roy Garner and Bessie Adams Garner. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from the Union Co. Department of Social Services. She was a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church. She loved gardening her flowers, her church and enjoyed the Senior Center of Jonesville.

Surviving are two daughters, Rita H. Ivey and husband Tommy of Jonesville and Sheila H. Chapman of Spartanburg; one son, Terry W. Harvey of Holly Hill and a sister, Pat Garner of Columbia. Her grandchildren are Cam Robinson and wife Nancy of Jonesville, Clint Robinson and wife Amanda of Boiling Springs, Brittany Williams and husband Phillip of Neeses, and Liza and Luke Chapman of Spartanburg. Her great-grandchildren are Carson and Carter Robinson of Boiling Springs. Mrs. Harvey was predeceased by a son, Michael Dean Harvey; a son-in-law, Robby Chapman; sisters, Nathalee Comer, Thelma Thrasher, Margaret Howell, Lou Jean Knox and Joyce Blakely and brothers, Wilbur, Everette, Hershal, Leonard and Donald Garner.

The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the staff and nurses of Comfort Keepers, especially Jamie Ellison and Ashley Cook, along with the staff and nurses of Waterford at Dillon Pointe and White Oak Estates for the care and love shown to Mrs. Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2019 at Jonesville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Jim Ivey and Rev. David Clyburn.  Burial will be at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.

Sarah Garner Arnold, 92, of Pilot Mountain, NC peacefully passed away on January 29, 2019 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  She was born March 28, 1926 in Union, SC to the late Clarke Garner and Alba Foster Garner.   

She grew up in Union, attended Union High School, and was graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.  She became a medical technologist and registered cytotechnologist and worked in various fields of science and education for her entire career.  She was an avid reader, gardener, and bridge player.  She was an accomplished artist.  She taught Sunday School for several years and was member of United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain.  

She is survived by her daughters, Lydia Arnold (Robert Carr) of Charlotte, NC, Sallie A. Stone of Pilot Mountain, grandchildren Andrew J. Stone (Rose) of Winston-Salem, Sarah Stone Yopp (Jay) of Pilot Mountain, and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford J. Arnold, brother Clarke Garner, Jr., and son-in-law Daniel J. Stone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017, the First Presbyterian Church of Union, 101 W. South Street, Union, SC 29379, and Grace United Methodist Church, 201 S. Church Street, Union, SC 29379.

Miss Mary Jeanette Harrison, age 74, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at her home in Boiling Springs.

Miss Harrison was born in West Springs, August 11, 1944, a daughter of the late Carl and Merle Lawson Harrison. She retired from Greenleaf Industries in Buffalo and was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Donald Harrison of Buffalo; three aunts, Lila Taylor of Fountain Inn, Lena Duncan and Bertha Lawson both of Spartanburg; one uncle, Chester Lawson and his wife Carolyn of Buffalo and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Shelton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 2153 Mt. Lebanon Church Rd., Buffalo, SC 29321.

Mrs. Jean Buice Evans, age 76, wife of Henry Robert Evans, of 959 Gaffney Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Evans was born October 12, 1942 in Jonesville, a daughter of the late Herbert Buice and Margaret Robinson Buice.  She was a graduate of Pacolet High School and was retired as secretary from Jonesville High School.  Mrs. Evans was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Lisa Goings and husband Robin of Jonesville and Shanna Eubanks and husband Charlie of Gaffney; one brother, Dennis Joe Buice and wife Mildred Jean of Pacolet; two granddaughters, Stacie Austin of Jonesville and Sarah Evans Shetley of Union; and one great-grandson, Nathan Austin of Jonesville.  She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kayla Teal West.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon and Rev. Ralph Brown.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Benny Waddle, Tommy Blackwood, Jamie Morris, Michael “Snake” Robinson, Terry Holmes, Preston Thomas, Perry Buice, Jr., and Grady Evans.  The Union County Senior Citizens Group is asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
