Carolyn Humphries McAbee

Mrs. Carolyn Humphries McAee, age 84 of 121 Orchard Lane, Union, widow of Lewis Edward McAbee, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. McAbee was born in Cleveland County, NC June 30, 1933, a daughter of the late Willie Lee Humphries and Vernie Horne Humphries. She was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College where she received her GED and CNA Nursing Certificate. Mrs. McAbee had formerly worked in home health, textiles and was owner of Carolyn’s Concessions. She was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church and was a loving wife and mother.

Surviving are a daughter, Kim McAbee Crocker and husband Perry; three sons: Billy McAbee and wife Debbie, Eddie McAbee and Timmy McAbee all of Union; a sister, Patricia H. McAbee; three brothers: Jim Humphries, Tom Humphries and Doug Humphries all of Union; five grandchildren: Wade McAbee, Chelsea Crocker, Alyssa Crocker all of Union, Kevin McAbee and Steven McAbee both of Boiling Springs; four great-grandchildren: Trevin, Addison, Christian and Derrick McAbee all of Boiling Springs. Mrs. McAbee was predeceased by two sisters, Melva H. Lawson and Grace H. Parkins and a brother, Dennis Humphries.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Ottaray Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Walter Holcombe. Burial will be in Fredrick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney.

Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons, Steven McAbee, Kevin McAbee, Wade McAbee and also Calvin McBee, Robert Calhoun and Randy McAbee. The following are asked to sit in a group: Robbie McAbee, Charles Lee McAbee, Perry Crocker, Larry McAbee, staff of Kindred Home Hospice and Agape Hospice.

Mrs. McAbee will be taken to the home Monday evening after 4:00 PM where the family will receive friends. Visitation will also be held 12:00-1:00 PM Wednesday in the church prior to the service.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Kindred Home Hospice and Agape Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. McAbee during her illness.

Danny “Carroll” Austin
Union, SC


Mr. Danny “Carroll” Austin, age 69 of 101 North Boyce Street, Union, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Austin was born in Union, SC, the husband of Barbara Alexander Austin for fifty years and the son of the late Norman and Zena Mae Austin Estes. He was a retired paramedic with the Union County EMS. Mr. Austin loved his family, friends and was a member of Greater Union Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters and a son: Renea Wood, Rhonda Gregory, Kayla Gregory and Jason Austin; a sister, Diane Beard; a brother, Robert Austin; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Harold Austin and a sister, Delitha Austin.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Kindred Hospice of Spartanburg, SC and also to Donna Greer and his CNA Amber Jennings for their care and comfort of Mr. Austin during his illness.

The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Greater Union Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday in the church following the visitation.

Gary Trammell, Jr.
Union, SC


Mr. Gary Trammell, Jr., age 90, of 158 Barnado Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Trammell was born May 11, 1927 in Union a son of the late Gary Trammell, Sr. and Mattie Trammell.  He was employed with Inman Mills Enoree – Ramey Plant.  Mr. Trammell was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.  He was first married to the late Helen M. Trammell.

Surviving are one daughter, Vanessa T. Cody and husband Terry with whom he made his home; two sons, Timothy Wayne Trammell and wife Monica G. of Union and Larry Trammell and wife Gayle S. of Enoree; two sisters, Maggie T. Howell of Union and Janice T. Fowler of Jonesville; one brother, Francis Trammell of Jonesville; ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He was predeceased by one daughter Kathy T. Simmons, two brothers, and three sisters. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Smith.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Ollie M. Hogan
Union, S.C.


Mrs. Ollie Margaret Bledsoe Hogan, age 90, of 84 Hogan Lane, Cheraw, widow of Clyde N. Hogan, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Hogan was born in Blackwater, VA, November 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Floyd and Essie Robinette Bledsoe. She was retired from the textile industry and afterwards worked as a caregiver at an assisted living facility.  Mrs. Hogan was a member of House of Praise Church in Cheraw and formerly a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Buffalo. She was the last surviving member of ten children in her family.

Surviving are a son, Rev. Darrell Hogan and wife Vanessa with whom she made her home; 17 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Reynolds and two sons, Donnie Hogan and Dennis Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Michael Presnell. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Hogan’s grandsons will serve as the active pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Saturday at the chapel prior to the services.

James E. "Pap" Valentine
Union, SC


Mr. James E. “Pap” Valentine, age 84, husband of Alma I. Valentine of 200 E. Hillcrest Ave., Union, passed away, Monday, December 25, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Valentine was born on April 27, 1933 in Union a son of the late Kelly and Bertie Lawson Valentine.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from Torrington Company—Tyger River Plant.  Mr. Valentine was a member of New Life Baptist Church.  He was retired from the South Carolina National Guard Union and Spartanburg Units where he served as a Medic for 22 years.  He was the assistant Union High School Girls Softball Coach for 11 years during which time his teams won 4 Upper State Titles and 3 State Championships.  Mr. Valentine also coached Dixie Youth Baseball, he was a former Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Union for 37 years and was a Shriner.


Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 66 years are two daughters, Vickie V. Allen and husband Martin and Patty V. Jenkins; two grandchildren, Chris Allen and wife Mandy and Jennifer Lancaster; three great-grandchildren Michael Lancaster, Kyleigh Allen, and Abby Lancaster; one sister, Sara Geneva Valentine; one brother, Dean Valentine and wife Rowena; and Uncle Pap’s Boys who he “unofficially” adopted, John Rogers, Steve Beard, Jackie Allison, and David Lybrand.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Valentine and Herman Valentine; two sisters, Hazel Self and Geraldine Morrow; and two sons-in-law, Randy Harbin and Stan Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, December 28, 2017 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner, Rev. Malachi Rogers, and Rev. Mark Truitt.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Neil Valentine, Steve Morrow, Kevin Morrow, Lanny Valentine, David Valentine, Robert Valentine, and Brad Valentine.  The following are asked to form the honorary escort, John Rogers, Steve Beard, Jackie Allison, David Lybrand, Micky Cranford, Pearl Crocker, Mae Puckett, Jenny Sylvester, and Tommy Calhoun.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM Thursday prior to the services at the church.

Bobby Dennis Varner

Mr. Bobby Dennis Varner, age 79, of 208 Hames Ave., Jonesville, widower of Patricia Long Varner, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Varner was born January 14, 1938, a son of the late L.D. and Christine Foster Varner. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and received his bachelor degree from Wofford College. Mr. Varner retired from Delta Mills, Beattie Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Kim V. Alexander and husband Chip and Kristie D. Roberson and husband John Michael all of Jonesville; one son, Dennis “Moose” Varner and wife Stephanie of Jonesville; three sisters, Patty Morrison, Mary Fleming and Vicki Vaughan all of Jonesville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Visitation will be held at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Sara Henrietta Bass Sistrunk, age 84, of 205 Oakdale Ave., Carlisle, widow of William M. Sistrunk, Sr., passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Sistrunk was born in Chester, October 8, 1933, a daughter of the late John Joe Bass and Carry Lou Feaster Bass.  She was a graduate of the S.C. School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg and was retired from Milliken and Co., Monarch Plant.  Mrs. Sistrunk was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was active in the Deaf Ministry. She was a former member of the S.C. Association for the Deaf, Broad River Chapter. Mrs. Sistrunk was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeanne Prince and husband John of Sumter; two sons, John Sistrunk and wife Shelly of Carlisle and Rev. William M. Sistrunk, Jr. of Williamston; a special sister, “Aunt” Betty Epting of Carlisle; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Erdin, John Prince, III, Nicole Phillips, Ezelis Sanderson, Elizabeth Sistrunk, William M. Sistrunk, III, Ethan Sistrunk, Erin Hartley, Ashley Larson, and Holli Ebner; and nine great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Sistrunk was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chris Gulledge, Rev. Alvin Biggerstaff, and Deaf Minister, Rev. William M. Sistrunk, Jr.  Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens, Chester, SC.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mabel Bailey Longshore Campbell
Union, S.C


Mrs. Mabel Bailey Longshore Campbell, age 85, of 450 Beatty’s Bridge Rd., Union,  formerly of 136 Burmaster St., Inman, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Campbell was the widow of Clifford J. Campbell and was first marred to the late Floyd L. Longshore.

She was born in the Sardis community of Union Co., May 17, 1932, a daughter of the late George B. Bailey and Ethel Young Bailey. She retired from Milliken and Co. after 45 years having worked at the Ottaray Plant and the Research center in Spartanburg.  Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness association and was active until her health failed. She enjoyed growing flowers, bird watching, traveling, her cats, crocheting and reading her Bible until her sight failed her.

Surviving are two sisters: Dolly B. Leitner of Blackstock and Ann B. Sanders and husband J.B. of Union; two special nieces, Merrie S. Bailey with whom she made her home and Pennie S. Duckett who helped with her care; and numerous nieces and nephews of the Bailey and Longshore families.  Mrs. Campbell was predeceased by a son, Dennis Ray Longshore, two sisters, Louise B. Trakas and Frances B. Nelson and two brothers, James R. Bailey and Fred R. Bailey.

The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to the nurses and staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for the care give to Mrs. Campbell during her time there.

Graveside services will be held 5:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Brother Joe Adams.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Mr. Dennis Harold “Stretch” Black, age 71 husband of Sadie Pryor Black of 790 Gaffney Hwy., Jonesville, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Black was born June 19, 1946 in Union, SC a son of the late Agnes Belue Black.  He was a 1964 graduate of Jonesville High School and retired after 30 years from Cone Mill—Carlisle Finishing Plant.  Mr. Black w as a member of Gilead Baptist Church where he was a former choir member. He was a member of the Prudence Lodge No. 139 and was a Hajaz Shriner.  Mr. Black was former member of the South Carolina National Guard—Jonesville Unit.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Angela Black of Jonesville; two grandchildren, Julius Fountain and Savanna Carpenter both of Jonesville; and a number of cousins.  He was predeceased by one son, Jason Allen Black.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Saxon.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James “Bubba” Harvey, Wayne Sanders, Dwight Belue, Evans Crocker, Gary Proctor, and Steve Pryor.

William G. ‘Bill’ Gregory

Mr. William Gilbert “Bill” Gregory, age 83, husband of Lillie Keisler Gregory of 108 Fourth St., Union, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gregory was born in Gaffney, June 27, 1934, a son of the late Robert Vance Gregory and Bertha Bruce Gregory.  He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and was former owner and operator of Bill’s Flea Market.  Mr. Gregory was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sheila Alexander of Ninety Six and Susan Erskin and husband Charlie of Greenwood; three sons, Wendell Franklin Gregory and wife Jane of Gray Court, Terry Gilbert Gregory and wife Jan of Greenwood and W. Michael Hawkins, Sr. and wife June of Union; a sister, Eloise G. Moore of Ninety Six; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  Mr. Gregory was predeceased by two sons, Robert William Gregory and Roger Crawford Gregory, one sister, Thelma Brodie, two half-brothers and one-half sister.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home conducted by his grandson, Dale Alexander.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:30PM at the chapel prior to the services.

Mrs. Peggy Joan Lipsey Henderson, age 84, formerly of Jonesville, widow of Dennis Charles Henderson, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Union Co., April 27, 1933, a daughter of the late Willie Austin Lipsey and Mary Pearl Baldwin Lipsey.  She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Milliken and Co., Cedar Hill Plant.  Mrs. Henderson was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Surviving are a grandson, Kenneth Charles Lee of Jonesville; two sisters, Della Whitt of Pacolet and Shirley Moss of Union; one brother, Millard Lipsey of Union; three great-granddaughters reared in the home; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Susan M. Vanderford of Buffalo. Mrs. Henderson was predeceased by a daughter, Joan H. Guyton and five brothers, Roger, Ronnie, Jerry, Marvin, Joe Leonard and Willie Lipsey, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2017 at Gilead Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Eddie Saxon.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the services.

Mrs. Martha Lucille Ivey Shaw, joined her husband, James William Shaw and her son, James William “Billy” Shaw, Jr. in heaven Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Mrs. Shaw was born in Union, June 15, 1923 a daughter of the late Charles and Ettiwese Ivey. She was retired from Conso in Adamsburg and was a life long member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Judy Jeter Shaw, granddaughter, Allyson Shaw Ayers and husband Mark, three great-grandchildren, Brett Allen Ayers, William Austin Ayers and Berri Alizabeth Ayers all of Santuc, SC.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Monday, December 18, 2017.

Anne Little Adams

Mrs. Anne Little Adams, age 86, of 320 Santuc Dr., Union, widow of Joe F. “Babe” Adams, Sr., passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.

Mrs. Adams was born June 7, 1931 in Kelton a daughter of the late W.J. Little and Grace Kitchens Little.  She was a graduate of Kelly Pinckney High School and attended Winthrop College.   Mrs. Adams retired as Payroll Clerk with the Union County School District.  Mrs. Adams was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she served as the Church Clerk for over 30 years and was a member of the WMU.  She also served on the Board of the Union County Election Commission.  Mrs. Adams left behind a legacy of strong faith in the Lord.  She was a loving mother and grandmother whose favorite past time was cooking and rocking her babies. 

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie O’Daniel, Carol Petty, and Beth McDonald and husband Joe all of Santuck; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Adams Cabaniss of Union; four grandchildren, Katie O’Daniel Haney and husband Stephen, Joe F. Adams, III and wife Julia, Adam Petty and wife Brittany, and Courtney Petty; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan Little and wife Joan of Jonesville; one brother-in-law, Kedrick Garner; and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by one son, Joe F. Adams, Jr. and three sisters, Jean Garner, Gloria Barnette, and Rebecca Garner.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, December 18, 2017 at Salem Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Wiseman.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Garner, Jake Black, Paul Little Barnette, Tyler Crocker, Todd Little, and Bill Garner.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Rev. Boyd Henry Williams

Rev. Boyd Henry Williams, age 95, of 228 Walker Heights, Union, widower of Louise Cooper Williams passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Rev. Williams was born January 27, 1922 in Clinton, SC a son of the late John Baxter Williams and Inez Murphy Williams.  Rev. Williams served and retired as Pastor of Sumner Memorial Baptist Church for 33 years.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was a Supervisor with United Merchant until it closed. Rev. Williams was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II and received a Purple Heart with cluster for his service.  He was first married to the late Gertrude Harrison Grant.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Baker and husband Ralph of Union; one son, Charles Williams of Union; two sisters, Frances Green of Union and Ruby Eubanks of Spartanburg; one brother, Larry Williams and wife Gwen of Buffalo; three daughters-in-law, Brenda C. Williams and Dianne Williams both of Buffalo and Fran Peigler of Charlotte, NC; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by three sons, Wayne Williams, Jimmy Williams, and Earl Peigler; one daughter, Judy Dorsey; four sisters, Christine McNease, Ruth McNease, Shirley Pearson, and Mary Nell Black; and one brother, Donald Williams.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dwayne Reuter, Rev. Wayne Cook, and Paul Burgess.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Charles Robin Massey, age 56 of 326 Wesley Chapel Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Massey was born in Union, March 9, 1961, a son of the late James Ervin “Buddy” Massey and Nora Bradley Massey. He was a 1979 graduate of Lockhart High School and was employed as a millwright journeyman in commercial construction. Mr. Massey was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Surviving are a daughter, Dana Riggs of Myrtle Beach; a son, Jody Massey of Indiana; two brothers: Mike Massey and wife Donna and Bill Massey all of Union; a sister, Wanda Aiken of Chester; a step-daughter, Mary Ann Seagle of Union; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a longtime companion, Penny Ellis of Lockhart and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Massey was predeceased by a sister, Cheryl Massey McCutcheon.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Carter, Jeff Sinclair, Dennis Horton, Larry Lemons, Stan Eaves, Nathan Gibson, Jerry Nance, Wesley Shuhart, David Taylor, Sammy Baine, Larry Candler, Mike O’dell, Sammy Valentine and Kelly Morrow.

Visitation will be held in the church following the service.

Mrs. Mary Cody Phillips, age 89, of 311 Bruce O. Wilson Rd., Union, widow of Arthur Lynn Phillips, passed away Monday, December 12, 2017 at White Oak at North Grove.

Mrs. Phillips was born November 29, 1928 in Union, SC a daughter of the late John J. Cody, Sr. and Janie N. Cody.  She was a graduate of Union High School.  Mrs. Phillips and her husband founded Phillips Hosiery Mill and she had previously worked at United Merchants as a Cost Accountant.  Later in life, Mrs. Phillips helped her son, Lynn at his restaurant Leonard’s of Buffalo. She was a member of Greater Union Church and had previously volunteered with Meals on Wheel of Union.

Surviving are one son, Charles M. “Mac” Phillips and wife Susan of Fletcher, NC; two daughters, Kay P. Smith and husband Rickey of Columbia, SC and Sally Phillips Rushing of Roswell, GA; one daughter-in-law, Arana C. Coleman; five grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Phillips of Spartanburg, Alan C. Smith of Gaffney, Hannah M. Smith of Columbia, Sophia Phillips Rushing of Roswell, GA and Riley Phillips Rushing of Roswell, GA; two sisters, Jeanette C. Huggins of Marietta, GA and Sarah C. Crocker of Johnston, SC; and one brother, Baxter W. Cody.  She was predeceased by one son, John Lynn Phillips; one grandson, Austen Phillips; one sister Ella Kirby; and five brothers, John J. Cody, Jr., Jeter Cody, Sr., Thomas Cody, Frank Cody, and Charles Cody.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at Greater Union Church conducted by the Rev. Roger Estes.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mary Cody Phillips exemplified loyalty, service, selflessness, and courage.  She modeled how to serve, give, love, and act with few words to explain.  Those fortunate enough to know her remember a fierce, unapologetic walk of faith.  As we gather to celebrate her life on Friday, December 15 we look forward to stories of how her cakes, cookies, casseroles, and passion for living are remembered.

Active pallbearers will be Don Cody, Andrew Burgess, Jonathan Burgess, Jeremiah Smoak, Thomas Gibson, Billy Medford, Mike Phillips, and Billy Greene.  The Thomas Gibson Adult Sunday School Class of Greater Union Church is asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.

Mr. Samuel Joseph “Jody” Millwood, age 66, husband of Patti Warren Millwood, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Millwood was born in Union, SC April 12, 1951, a son of the late Ray Rufus Millwood, Sr and Bessie D. Austin Millwood. He retired from Conso Products and has recently worked with Capstone. Mr. Millwood was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Traci Lachelle Millwood and fiancé Steven Dabbs of Union; two sons: Samuel Drake Millwood and girlfriend Melanie Greene and Jeffery Warren Millwood all of Union; a sister, Patsy Boulware and husband Donnie of Buffalo; eight grandchildren: Dylan Millwood, Candice Wright, Lacey Millwood, Madison Phipps, Amanda Millwood, Leah Whitmore, Emily Millwood and Marissa Millwood; two great grandchildren: Matthew Joseph Millwood and Delaney Price. Mr. Millwood was predeceased by an infant son, Christopher Shane Millwood and two brothers, Ray Rufus Millwood, Jr. and Barth Allen Austin.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2017 at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Millwood will be taken to the home, 609 Green Street, Union, where the family will receive friends after 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

Carlisle Freeman “Red Dog” Reardon

Mr. Carlisle Freeman “Red Dog” Reardon, age 63, husband of Betty Strickland Reardon, of 1332 Lovers Lane, Whitmire, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Reardon was born October 16, 1954 in Union a son of Betty Ashe Steen of Lockhart and the late Carl Reardon.  He was a 1972 graduate of Lockhart High School and later Nashville Diesel School. Mr. Reardon retired from Cone Mill—Carlisle Finishing Plant.  He was a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church, the Whitmire Rescue Squad and was a former member of the Good Fellows.  Mr. Reardon was an Eagle Scout, loved hot rod cars, and was also known as Santa for many years throughout the Whitmire community.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are, three sons, Jason Reardon and wife Mary of Spartanburg, Timothy Eric Reardon and wife Tammy of Laurens, and Mike Senn and wife Jessica of Union; two sisters, Esther Starnes and husband Butch of Whitmire and Angie Patrick of York; eight grandchildren, Austin, Chase, Mackenzie, Audriana, Hailey, and Selena Reardon and Hunter and Hayden Senn; and lots nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, including special nephews, Bill Strickland and wife Whitney and Jeff Strickland and wife Jaime.  In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his step-father, Claude “Jabo” Steen and a sister, Myra Sue Reardon.

Funeral services will be held 4:30 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Whitmire Rescue Squad conducted by the Rev. Kenny Weaver.

Visitation will be held 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM Wednesday prior to the services at the Whitmire Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Beverly Jean Guthrie McIntire, age 75, wife of Arvel W. “Mac” McIntire of 524 Savanna Plains Dr., Spartanburg, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. McIntire was born, March 9, 1942, a daughter of the late Clarence V. Guthrie and Gloria June Holland Guthrie.  She was a graduate of North Kansas City High School and married her high school sweetheart Mac in 1960.  She retired from the Weiss Paper Company in PA. After her husband’s retirement they moved to Bella Vista, AR where she held a position at the GMC Buick dealership as customer service concierge.  She was a member of Cross Church in Rogers, AR and was involved in many activities in the village including golf, quilting and gardening.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Audry Coddington and husband Jim of Lake Winnebago, MO and Kimberlee Sanchez and husband Dr. Anthony “Tony” Sanchez of Spartanburg, SC; one son, Doug McIntire and wife Tina of Bella Vista, AR; four grandsons, Corey Coddington, Drew Sanchez, Reed Sanchez and Cole Sanchez; two brothers, Larry Guthrie of Indiana and Dennis Guthrie of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Marge DeHart of Wimberling, TX and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Autumn Coddington.

She was predeceased by a brother, Clarence V. Guthrie, Jr.

A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church conducted by Father Rob Brown.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the services.

Mr. Jack Wayne Bowman, age 68, husband of Barbara Lovelace Bowman of 431 Old English Rd., Union, went home to be with his Savior and Lord on December 4, 2017 after a long illness.

Mr. Bowman was born in Lovelady Township, Caldwell Co., NC, June 18, 1949 a son of the late Robert Arnold Bowman and Viola Hollar Bowman. Prior his illness, Mr. Bowman was employed Tietex International and had also worked as a supervisor with Watts Mill.  He was a member of Tanglewood Missionary Baptist Church where he played the guitar and banjo and sang for the Lord.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Barbara Bowman Baker and husband Steve of Gamewell, NC and Brenda Bowman Lambert and husband Michael of Hudson, NC; a son, Anthony “Andy” Bowman and wife Megan of Munice, IN; two step-daughters, Angela “Angie” Millwood Hines of Union and Stacy Millwood Allen of Mt. Juliet, TN; three brothers, Fred Bowman and wife Betty and John Bowman and wife Louise all of Granite Falls, NC and James “Bud” Bowman and wife Margaret of Lenoir, NC; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and their families.  Mr. Bowman was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Tanglewood Missionary Baptist Church conducted by Bro. Charles Hutcheson and Bro. Raymond Ford.

Visitation will be held immediately following the services at the church.

Mr. William Ellis Rochester, age 70 of 401 East Main Street, Apt. 211, Pacolet, SC passed Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Rochester was born in Cherokee County, SC September 20, 1947, a son of the late Ralph Ellis Rochester and Estelle Patterson Rochester. He was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Yvonne Blacketer and husband Joe of FL; a son, Christopher Ray Rochester of Gaffney; two sisters: Thelma Rochester Kirby of Spartanburg and Lillian Fowler of Pacolet; a brother, David Howard Rochester and wife Gail of Pacolet and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Brady Rochester.

Nephews of Mr. Rochester will serve as active pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel.
