Donald Edward Davis
Union, SC


Mr. Donald Edward “Don” Davis, age 71, husband of Barbara Faucett Davis of 702 Brown’s Creek Church Rd., Union, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.

Mr. Davis was born in Union, SC December 15, 1944, a son of the late Edward Davis and Ruby Ivey Davis. He was a 1963 graduate of Union High School and retired from Winn Dixie Stores where he served as a manager for thirty-eight years. His last assignment was the  Union Winn Dixie store. He was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church, Union Shrine Club, and a Scottish Rite Mason. He was first a member of the John A. Fant Lodge and later the Union Masonic Lodge. Mr. Davis was a former member of the Union Rotary Club, the Sertoma Club, the United Way Board and had been a member of the Advisory Board of Wachovia Bank, Union Branch.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Union Elks Lodge # 1321 where he had served three terms as it’s Exalted Ruler. He was past President of the State of South Carolina Elk’s Association and had served as the Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Elk’s Association. For his work on both the State and local level with the Elk’s Club, he was named to the South Carolina Elk’s Association Hall of Fame.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters: Kay Sparks and her husband Bruce of Union and Judy Burnett and husband James of Spartanburg and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was predeceased by a sister, Wanda David Petty.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Brown’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Harris, William Earl Roller, Danny Cavender, Jim Cunningham, Gene Childers, Jerry Davis, George Davis and Stanley Vinson. Members of the Union Shrine Club, Elk’s Association and Union Masonic Lodge was asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, January 1, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Doris Haney Dover
Union, SC


Mrs. Doris Haney Dover, age 76 of 629 Rice Avenue Ext., Apt. 1 B, Union, widow of Donald Leon Dover, Sr. passed away December 30, 2015 at her home. 

Mrs. Dover was born in Union, SC December 27, 1939, a daughter of the late Herman Haney and Sallie Bledsoe Haney. She retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Mills and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Phyllis Smith and husband Donnie of Union and Penny Lawson and special friend, Gene Crocker of Sharon; a granddaughter, Shelley Smith of Union; two sisters: Marguerite Herron of Aiken, GA and Diane Panther of Laurens and a brother, Dean Haney of Buffalo. Mrs. Dover was predeceased by a son, Donald Dover, Jr; a sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 3, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening in the chapel.

Mable S. Tucker
Union, SC


Mrs. Mabel S. Tucker, age 77, of 214 Catawba St., Union, widow of Rion Tucker passed away, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Tucker was born in Union, SC on October 14, 1938 a daughter of the late Henry T. Sprouse and Irene Nance Sprouse.  She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Circle.  Mrs. Tucker was retired from United Merchants Union Plant.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Voiselle of the home; a sister, Jo Ann Lawson of Pauline; a grandson, Roy T. Lawson, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Christopher R. Lawson, Alexis Holland, Tannah M. Willard, and Nathan Ty Willard; and a beloved pet pechinese, Chee-Chee.  She was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Jean Ponder, Frances Tucker, and Lena Sprouse and two brothers, Henry Earl Sprouse and Harold Dean Sprouse.

Funeral services will be held, 3:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Phillip Chandler.  Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Tucker’s nephews, Darrell Lawson, David Lawson, Rickey Sprouse, Brian Gardin, Jarad Gardin, and William Earl Sprouse.  The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Maxie Ray Ponder and Phillip Sprouse.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday prior to the services at the church.

The family wishes to extend a special “Thank you” to the staff and nurses of Gentiva Hospice for the love and care of Mrs. Tucker during her illness.

James Michael Turner
Union, SC


Mr. James Michael Turner, age 52, of 215 Belvue Dr., Union passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Rosewood Assisted Living Facility in Pauline, SC.

Mr. Turner was born on October 25, 1963 a son of James Franklin Turner and the late Anne Laxton Turner.  He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and a faithful Christian.  Mr. Turner was a loving son, father, brother, and wonderful brother-in-law.

Surviving in addition to his father are a daughter, Kimberly Lee Turner; three brothers, John Earl Turner, Anthony Wayne Turner and wife Lauren Inman Turner, and David Scott Turner all of Union; two uncles, Furman Turner of Gaffney and Leland Turner of Landrum; two aunts, Esther Hutchins and Ruth Hutchins of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special “Thank you” to Agape Hospice of Spartanburg and Rosewood Assisted Living Facility of Pauline.

Edythe Arnold Fowler Sanlin
Union, SC


Mrs. Edythe Arnold Fowler Sanlin, age 95, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at Woodruff Manor. She was was first married to the late John McSwain Fowler with whom she had two children. After his death in 1953, she remained single until she was remarried to J.B. Sanlin in 1974 and again widowed in 1983.

Mrs. Sanlin was born in Union, SC, a daughter of the late Earl Whiting and Rose Alexander Whiting. She was self-employed as a cosmetologist for fifty-four years. Upon retiring, she worked for the Union County Senior Citizen Center and also Union County Health Department. She was very gifted and well known for creating anything that could be sewed, knitted, crocheted, or quilted. Mrs. Sanlin was a lifelong resident of Union.          

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Fowler Hodge of Union; four grandchildren: Anthony “Tony” Hodge and wife Beverly of Gaffney and Brandi Hodge Monroe and husband Chad of Union; six great-grandchildren: Bethany Hodge, Drew Harvey, Alex Harvey, Casey Cash, Alayna Monroe and Claire Monroe; a special niece, Dianne Taus; a nephew, David Fowler and a number of other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sanlin was predeceased by a son, Gerald Fowler; an infant daughter, Judith Ann Fowler; a sister, Argel Sumner, a great grandson, Matthew Cash, and a son-in-law, Marshall Hodge.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Reverend Dr. Jim McClure.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Sanlin’s great grandsons.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Donald Gene White, age 77 of 100 Davis St., Union, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at his home.

Mr. White was born in Union, April 10, 1938, a son of the late Robert Lee White and Rittie Neal White.  He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from the textile industry working in security.

Mr. White was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the late 1960’s.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are four daughters, Jean W. Capps and husband Robert, Donna Jean White, Dusty Lee W. Helton and husband James all of Union, and Snowe W. Meadors and husband Bryan of Spartanburg; two sons, Ron Lovley and wife Mary of MI and Michael Eugene White of Union; a step-daughter, Sherry Knox Davis and husband Fred Davis, Jr. of Enoree; three step-sons, Bobby Knox, Jr. and wife Cindy of VA, Roger Dale Hill and wife Tracy and Dennis Ray Hill and wife Kim all of Union; two special friends, Ruby White and Judy White both of Union; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randy Smith.  Burial with Military Honors will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Meadors, Ronnie Windsor, Roger Hill, David White, James Helton, and Jimmy Belue.

Staff and nurses with Medi Home Hospice along with members of the Jerusalem Project of Union Co. are asked to sit in a group.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 9:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.

Betty Quinn Good

Mrs. Betty Quinn Good, age 79 of 4260 Lockhart Hwy, Union, widow of Arthur S. Good, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Good was born in Union, SC September 27, 1933, a daughter of R.J. Quinn and Bertha Elizabeth Hoglen Quinn. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Springs Mills. Mrs. Good was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters: Deborah Horne and husband Dennis and Celeste West and husband Ernie all of Union; a sister, Sue Pennington of Buffalo; five grandchildren: Chris Hopper, Jennifer Gregory, Olivia Davis, Shalyn Horne and Dustin West; five great-grandchildren: Aubrey Petty, Nathan Hopper, Madison Gregory, Andrew Gregory and Elizabeth Gregory. Mrs. Good was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Thomas and four brothers: James Quinn, Grover Quinn, Donald Quinn and Howard Pete Quinn.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 29,, 2015 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale.

Mrs. Vera Scruggs Shropshire, age 88, of 829 S. Duncan ByPass, Union, widow of Leroy Shropshire, passed away December 26, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Shropshire was born in Chesnee, SC, November 8, 1927, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a loving mother and grandmother.

Surviving are two grandsons, Kevin Shropshire and wife Kelly and Lee Shropshire and wife Lacy all of Union; three great-grandchildren, Riley Shropshire, Jasper Shropshire, and Sydney Shropshire; a sister, Marlene and a brother, Billy Scruggs both of Chesnee.  Mrs. Shropshire was predeceased by a son, Michael Kelly Shropshire and a great-granddaughter, Mia Shropshire.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the services.

Mrs. Debra Duckett Whitlock, age 61 of 1208 W. Main St., Union, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Whitlock was born in Union, July 1, 1954, a daughter of the late Dillard and Daisy Millwood Duckett. She was a 1976 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Lil’Cricket in Buffalo.  Mrs. Whitlock was formerly employed with United Merchants, Union Plant. She was a member of Oakland Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jamie W. Whitlock and wife Emily and Tyler Whitlock all of the home; four sisters, Barbara Roark of Myrtle Beach, Linda Vaughn of Greensboro, NC, Peggy Bright and Patti Jackson both of Union; one brother, Steve Millwood of Flint, MI; four grandchildren, Chad Whitlock, Jr., Cayson Whitlock, Caylee Whitlock and Danika Whitlock; a special uncle and aunt, Colon and Maxine Duckett; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece Melissa Smith of Union. Mrs. Whitlock was predeceased by a son, Chad Whitlock and a sister, Monica Thomas.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 PM Monday, December 28, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess.

Wayne H. Harmon
Union, SC


Mr. Wayne H. Harmon, age 81, of Union, widow of Betty Woolen Harmon, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at Greenville Place Nursing Center.

Mr. Harmon was born in Union, September 27, 1934, a son of the late Hugh and Ila Carter Harmon. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired as Vice President of Greenville Office Supply. Mr. Harmon was also a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of Unity United Methodist Church.  He was an avid golfer and a musician, having played piano and organ for his church.  Mr. Harmon was also instrumental in organizing Relay for Life events.

Surviving are a daughter, Betsy H. Leach and husband Wey of Greenville, a granddaughter, Alexandra Fowler also of Greenville; and god-children, Randall “Chump” Hanvey and wife Susan and their daughter, Mary Beth Hanvey all of Union.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. John Cribb.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Anthony, Tommy Anthony, Wayne Anthony and Joe Haney.

Aubrey Lynn Faucett
Union, SC


Mr. Aubrey Lynn Faucett, age 76, of 1208 W. Main St., Union, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at Provident Hospital in Columbia after years of declining health.

Mr. Faucett was born in Union, February 12, 1939, a son of the late Norman W. Faucett and Helen Estelle Going Faucett.  He was a 1958 graduate of Jonesville High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College.  Mr. Faucett was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and was formerly employed with Milliken Co., having worked at the Monarch Plant, Lockhart Plant and Milliken Research in Spartanburg. A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Faucett was also a member of the S.C. National Guard and the American Legion.  He was a member at Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his former wife of 47 years, Alma P. Faucett of Union, a son, Tracey L. Faucett, Sr. and wife Pam of Union; a sister, Margie F. Robinson of Jonesville; two brothers, William “Billy” Faucett and wife Connie of North Augusta and Fred Faucett and wife Doris of Jonesville; a granddaughter, Morgan Chase Faucett and a grandson, Tracey “Trace” L. Faucett, II both of Union, and his beloved pets, Tinker and Brownie.  Mr. Faucett was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn F. Garner and Shirley F. Sanders and a brother, James “Jimmy” Faucett.

Private services have been scheduled by the family.

The family will be at their respective homes.

James E. “Skillet” Morris

Mr. James E. “Skillet” Morris, age 88, of 405 Toney Rd., Union, widower of Sue Head Morris, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 25, 2015 at White Oak Manor.

Mr. Morris was born in Union, SC on October 11, 1927, a son of the late Monroe Morris and Myrtle Johns Morris. He was retired after 28 years from the City of Union Fire Department and had previously worked for Milliken Company.  Mr. Morris was a member of New Life Baptist Church.  He loved music, singing, the Lord, and cooking chicken stew and hash for the policemen and firemen

Surviving are a daughter, Elaine M. Lawson and husband Billy of Jonesville; a son, Robert M. Morris and wife Kelly of Union; a step-son, Charles Lee and wife Chrystal of Jonesville; two sisters, Lucy Putnam of Union and Ferol Kelly of Clinton; one brother, Raymond Morris of Union; eight grandchildren, Mia Silvers and husband Chad, Mark Lawson, Ashley Black, Chassidy West and husband Chris, Amy Ford and husband Cleve, Paula Morris, Jimmy Morris and Robbie Quinn and wife Crystal; eight great-grandchildren, Madison Lawson, Macey Lawson, Arden Silvers, Andi Silvers, Luck West, Riley West, William Yarborough, and Hailey Hamby. Mr. Morris was predeceased by one daughter, Deborah Gregory; one son, Jimmy Morris; and two brothers, Horace Vernon “Demo” Morris and J.M. Morris.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Ron Culberson.  Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active Pallbearers will be the Union County Firefighter Color Guard.  The following are asked to form the honorary escort, members of the Union County Firefighter’s Association, Marshall Wilkie, Brian Freeman and Brad Freeman.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Thomas William “Buck” Latham

Mr. Thomas William “Buck” Latham, age 93, formerly of Browns Creek Church Rd., Union, widower of Laura Cookson Latham, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at Heartland Nursing Home.

Mr. Latham was born in Lockhart, SC on December 1, 1922 a son of the late, John David Latham and Ella Mae Jones Latham.  He was retired from Milliken and Company – Lockhart Plant.  Mr. Latham was a member of Lockhart Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus and had previously served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  He was a Mason and a member of Lockhart Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are a daughter, Eugenia Latham McKnight and husband John of Brown’s Creek; a son, Donald Ray Latham and wife Marie Ann of Sharon; a sister, Laura L. Dabbs of Lockhart; three grandchildren, Jennifer Dingeldein and husband Don of Lexington, John McKnight, III and wife Molly of Anderson, and Donna Latham of Blacksburg; and four great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by three sisters, Josie Mae Kirby, Sarah L. Gallman, and Agnes L. Vanderford; four brothers, Melvin “Butch” Latham, Billy Dean Latham, Russell Wylie Latham, and Marion Latham.

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Lockhart Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Steve Lemons.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM prior to the services at the Church.

Mrs. Dianne Poole Johnson, age 68, wife of Jimmy R. Johnson of 325 Riley Rd., Buffalo went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 23, 2015.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Union, July 13, 1947, a daughter of the late Lewis and Sarah Wix Poole. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from the textile industry. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Pamela Ray and husband Andy of Union; a son, Ernell Johnson and wife Sherry of Buffalo; a brother, Phillip Poole of Buffalo; cousin, Joan Huskey of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Jonathan Ray, Katie Ray, Jimmy Johnson, Charles Johnson and Anna Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Ray and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a brother, Mack Poole.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnny Burgess.  Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Jeff David Parkins
York, SC


Mr. Jeff David Parkins, age 69, of 1688 Molly Circle, York, widower of Ginger Ochiltree Parkins, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at his daughter’s home.

Mr. Parkins was born in Chester, SC on February 23, 1946 a son of the late Claude Parkins and Neily Parkins.  He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and was a retired Supervisor from Lockhart Power.  Mr. Parkins was a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid coon hunter and loved to take the children of Lockhart Hunting, Mr. Parkins also loved farming.

Surviving are a daughter, Dana Parkins and companion Daryl Miller of the home; a son, Marty Parkins of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Carolyn Scott of Lockhart; two brothers, Jimmy Parkins and wife Brenda of Jonesville and Roy Parkins and wife Brenda of Lockhart; four grandchildren, Paige Parkins of Union, Randall Seaford and wife Chelsea serving in Kuwait, Jeffery Reid Parkins of Hickory Grove, SC and Sera Elizabeth Miller of York; one step-grandson, Michael Lee Miller of Rock Hill; one great-grandson, Hilbert Dedeus, III of Union; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by five brothers, Frank Parkins, William Parkins, Jack Parkins, Tommy Parkins and Irvin Parkins and two sisters, Willie Frances Parkins and Ellen Ruth Parkins.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Craig Marshall.  Burial will follow in Lockhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Mabel Riggs Harris, widow of Roy S. Harris, formerly of Santuc, passed away December 21, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House.  Mrs. Harris, a daughter of the late Oscar and Daisy Riggs, was born in Union on July 11, 1921.  She was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens, Whitmire Plant and a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Kathy and Bill Horne and JoAnne and Jim Gregory, all of Roebuck; a daughter in law, Sandra T. Harris of Greenville, SC; four granddaughters, LuAnn Harris of Greenville, SC, Kelli H. Mesardjian and husband Chris of Simpsonville, Renee Seay, and Amy Bradshaw and husband Bob all of Roebuck; three great-grandsons, Brandon Seay, Alex Bradshaw, and Cayden Mesardjian; a sister, Shirley Sams and husband Larry of York; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sons, Harold E. Harris and Gerald W. Harris and a brother, Charles Leroy Riggs.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Wiseman and Rev. Wayne Cooke.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. William H. Pruitt, Jr., age 92, formally of Buffalo, widower of Vernell Haney Pruitt went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Park Place Memory Care.

Mr. Pruitt was born in Union, SC July 29, 1923, a son of the late William H. Pruitt, Sr. and Mae Catherine Hembree Pruitt. He was retired from United Merchants and manufacturing-Buffalo plant he had also worked at Conso products. A veteran of the US Army, Mr. Pruitt proudly served under General George S. Patton during World War II. In honor of his serve he had been named a Union County Veteran of the Year. He was a lifelong member of Buffalo United Methodist church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and had sung in the Men’s Choir as long as his health permitted. Mr. Pruitt was a member of the Duncan Masonic Lodge 256, also had served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy McKinney and husband James of Spartanburg; one granddaughter, Mitzi McKinney Mullinax and husband Brad of Jacksonville, FL. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Petty.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Ron Towery. Burial, with military honors will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Col. Broadus “Carol” Cathcart, age 74, husband of Judy Billings Cathcart, of 140 Buffalo Creek Ranch Rd., Buffalo, SC went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cathcart was born in Buffalo, SC, September 9, 1941, a son of the late Herbert H. and Marie Smith Cathcart.  He was a veteran of the US Army, during the Vietnam era. Mr. Cathcart worked as a mechanic, a farmer and his true passion, Auctioning. He was an auctioneer for 44 years and was a member of the SC Auctioneer Association.   Mr. Cathcart was also a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 47 years, are a son, Christopher “Mark” Cathcart and wife Rev. Celeste Cathcart and a daughter, Carla C. Champion and husband, Troy, all of Buffalo; grandchildren: Amber C. Lanier and husband Kevin, Katelyn C. O’Shields and husband, Jarred, all of Union, Rebekah Champion, Rachel Ann Cathcart, Jolee Cathcart and Kadyjean Cathcart all of Buffalo and one great-grandson, Eli Edward O’Shields, of Union; sisters: Cora Lee Snyder and husband Buddy and Sybil Ponder, all of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Sara Cathcart, of Union. Mr. Youngblood was born in York, SC., September 9, 1928, a son of the late Nelson B. and Minnie Calton Youngblood. He was retired from Milliken and Company and a member of Bogansville United Methodist Church. Mr. Youngblood was also a member of the Mary Sue Keith Sunday School Class and Joy Group of Bogansville.

Mr. Youngblood was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Brent Youngblood of Jonesville; two grandsons, Hunter Youngblood and Will Youngblood both of Jonesville; a great- granddaughter, Kari Youngblood. Mr. Youngblood was predeceased by 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Millwood was born in Spartanburg, SC July 10, 1940, a daughter of the late Lloyd Spencer, Sr and Martha Solomon Spencer. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Pacolet First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kathy Byrd and husband Dennis; two sons: Larry Millwood and friend Kelly Dewes and Jimmy Millwood and wife Peggy; a sister-in-law, Joanne Gilliland all of Pacolet; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Bailey and Juanita Ayers; three brothers: Rickey Spencer, Billy Spencer and Robert “Dooby” Spencer all of Pacolet and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Millwood was predeceased by a sister, Sara McKelvey and a brother, Lloyd Spencer, Jr.

Mrs. Winstead was born in Spartanburg, SC on February 6, 1946 a daughter of the late Carl Ferguson and Lena Harris Ferguson.  She was a member of New Life Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Ray Winstead and wife Sandra of Cowpens and Paul Winstead of Jonesville; two sisters, Judy Messer of Jacksonville, FL and Carolyn Martin of Spartanburg; two grandsons, Chris Winstead of Cowpens and Paul Winstead, Jr., of Gaffney; two granddaughters, Kristina Elder of Spartanburg and Summer Moore of Jonesville.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Union, SC May 13, 1936, a daughter of the late Ben W. Barber and Effie Lee Barber. She was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Surviving are three sons: Paul Mitchell Lawson of Inman, David Bryan Lawson and wife Lisa L. and Timothy Lee Lawson and wife Michelle E. all of Boiling Springs; four sisters: Donna Kitchens, Trudy Billings, Linda Ward and Deborah Beck; three brothers: Charles Barber, David Barber and Bruce Barber; six grandchildren: Chris Lawson and wife Yoeuth Y., Kristi Boulay, Bryan Hunter Lawson, Stacey Lynn Lawson, Joshua Caleb Lawson, and Megan Tishae Lawson and four great-grandchildren: Asia Epling, Sonya Yawn, Christina Lawson and Charles Maddox Lawson.

Mrs. Anna Gault Harris, age 98, formerly of Harris Lake Rd., Union, widow of William “Fred” Harris, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Mrs. Harris was born in Spartanburg Co., October 3, 1917, a daughter of the late Haskell and Maggie Gallman Gault.  She and her husband managed Harris Lake, enjoyed farming and attending the Farmer’s Market.  Mrs. Harris was a wonderful cook and had also worked along with her daughter at Hilda’s Dairi Delight. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara H. Gregory and husband Gene, with whom Mrs. Harris made her home for eight years; two sons, Henry “Grady” Harris and wife Donna of Spartanburg and Stan Harris and friend Cindy Henderson of Union; a daughter-in-law, Marie Harris of Union; ten grandchildren including Randy Harris, reared in the home, and wife Nelda of Union, eight great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harris was predeceased by a son, “Donald” Fred Harris.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Friday, December 18, 2015 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Glenn Ribelin and Rev. Carl Harris. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. William Hope Holcombe, age 86, husband of Carrie Horne Holcombe of 1703 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Jonesville, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mr. Holcombe was born in Union, July 2, 1929, a son of the late Marvin Boyd Holcombe and Mammie Mauk Holcombe.  He was retired from Milliken Co., Lockhart Plant and was a member of the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge # 203.  Mr. Holcombe Was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mr.Holcombe was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two step-sons, John Horne and Doug Horne both of Union; several nieces and nephews including Gene Vinson of Inman and Marjorie Hall of Spartanburg; and 32 grand, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Mr. Holcombe was predeceased by two sisters, Nadean Vinson and Vivian Farr; a brother Harold Holcombe and a step-daughter, Emily Adams.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 14, 2015 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. James Marvin Hance, age 64, of 110 Highland Dr., Union, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Hance was born in Union, December 19, 1950, a son of Clara Nelle Gulley Hance of Union and the late Eugene E. Hance.  He was a 1969 graduate of Union High School and and also a graduate of Gardner-Webb College. Mr. Hance was retired after 30 years from Milliken Co., Cedar Hill Plant and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union.  He was a volunteer with the Union County Arts Council and enjoyed camping and hiking.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Claire Hance Cassel and husband Sam of Columbia, two brothers, Eugene E. Hance, Jr. of Union and Neill Hance of Inman; a special friend, Catherine Johnson Varner of Union; nieces and nephews, Pace Cassell, Davis Cassell, Tanner Cassell, Teagan Hance, Ian Hance and Nolan Hance.

Mrs. Vera Quinn Barfield, age 98, of 164 Pineland Ave., Union, widow of Clayton Barfield, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Barfield was born in Cherokee Springs, SC on April 11, 1917 a daughter of the late Claude Wofford Quinn and Ollie Kimbrell Quinn.  She attended Cross Anchor Schools and was the owner and operator of Cedar Hill Beauty Shop for many years.  Mrs. Barfield was the oldest member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 55 years.

Surviving are a sister, Myrtle Q. Pruitt of the home, several stepchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by seven sisters, Inez Burgess, Jeanette Whelchel, Stella Ellison, Marie Heatherly, Ruth Seay, and Alma Jean Smith and two brothers, D.L Quinn and C.A. Quinn.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Cunningham and Rev. Shannon Faulkner.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Crisp was born in Union, SC May 15, 1962, a son of Bennie Gregory Crisp of the home and the late Glenn Everette Crisp. He was a graduate of Union High School and had attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Crisp was formerly employed with the Spartanburg Hospital for Restortative Care. He was a member of Brown’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his partner, Raymond Justice, Jr. of the home; a sister, Debbie Crisp Boyle of the home; a brother, Thomas Crisp and husband Biff Piner of Philadelphia; a daughter, Lindsay Crisp of Buffalo; a son, Matthew Crisp of Union; six grandchildren: two step-daughters: Elizabeth Wingfield of Millen, GA and Jennifer Justice of Woodruff and a mother-in-law, Kathy Southerland of Boiling Springs.

Mr. Leo Mathis Hines, age 80, of 288 Senate St., Union, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Hines was born in Camden, West Virginia, December 4, 1935, a son of the late Edward and Clara Rowgh Hines.  He was retired from Timken Co., and had formerly worked with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Mr. Hines was a 29 year veteran of the US Army (Sgt. First Class) having honorably served his country in three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with one silver Campaign Star and three Bronze Campaign Stars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Aviation Crew Member Badge. Mr. Hines was deployed with the 1st Calvary Division, 3rd Infantry Division and the 25th Infantry Division.

Surviving are a son, Todd Patrick Hines and wife Ashleigh and a granddaughter, Lily Hines all of Manchester, TN; his ex-wife and caregiver, Elaine C. Ellison of the home; five sisters, Agnes Michaelson of Charleston, W.Va., Bernadette Law of Camden, W.Va., Delores Snyder of Clarksburg, W.Va., Ann Duley of Lancaster, OH, and Ellen Asbury of Elkview, W. Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hines was predeceased by five brothers, Robert, Edward, Martin, John and infant James Vincent Hines.

Visitation will be held 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Donna Lee Crocker, age 79, loving and caring wife of R.J. Crocker, 180 Crocker Campground Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Crocker was born in Clearwater, FL on April 3, 1936 a daughter of the late, Wyllys Ransom and Donna Lobaugh Ransom.  She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina Spartanburg where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.  Mrs. Crocker was retired as a registered nurse from the South Carolina Department of Corrections and had previously worked as a Nurse and Nursing Supervisor at Wallace Thomson, Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, and Assistant Director of Nursing at Chester Regional Medical Center in Chester and South Carolina DHEC as a Home Health Nurse.  She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.  Mrs. Crocker was the glue and peacemaker of her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Catherine Crocker of Union and Cory House of Spartanburg; four sons, Richard R. Crocker of Spartanburg, Douglas Crocker of Roebuck, Christopher Crocker and Richard J. Crocker both of Union; one sister, Posey Harwood of Clearwater, FL; one brother, David Ransom of the Philippines; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Linda Sinclair Alexander

Mrs. Linda Sinclair Alexander, age 65, of 109 Tyger River Lane, Whitmire, widow of Jackie Lee Alexander, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Alexander was born in Whitmire, SC on February 9, 1950 a daughter of the late Hugh Boyd Sinclair and Helen Prince Sinclair.  She was a 1968 graduate of Whitmire High School and was employed with Wal-Mart of Union for 19 years and was formerly employed with Grace United Methodist Church Child Enrichment Program.  Mrs. Alexander was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church where she was assistant secretary and church clerk, a faithful member of WMU, she was also involved with many activities as Youth Leader and GA Leader and held appointment to a number of church committees.

Surviving are two sons, Jason Lee Alexander and Nathan Craig Alexander both of Whitmire; two sisters, Joyce Sinclair Lambert and husband Dan of Simpsonville, SC and Dorothy Sinclair Hawkins of Prosperity, SC; one brother-in-law, Dean Alexander of Jonesville; a special friend, Kathy Babb Stokes of Union; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was predeceased by one brother, Hugh Boyd Sinclair, Jr.

Funeral services will be held, 2:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by Mr. Tim DeHart.  Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Rogers, Tom Stokes, Chris Alexander, Troy Hawkins, Noel Hawkins, and Michael Moss.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mrs. Sarah Frances Hutcherson Riggs, age 91, of 115 Malone Ave., widow of Ellis Ray Riggs, passed away from an unexpected illness Tuesday, December 8, 2015.

Mrs. Riggs was born in Union, July 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Oscar and Mae Hutcherson. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Riggs is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Sanders and husband Jimmy of the home and Bonnie Abedini of Helmetta, NJ; a sister, Jenny Toney; a brother, Henry Hutcherson both of Union; grandchildren, Joseph Sanders of the home and Josh Sanders and wife Ashley of Columbia; a predeceased grandson, Jamie Sanders; great-grandchildren, Raven Sanders of the home and Zoey Sanders of Columbia. Mrs. Riggs was also predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Heyward “Buck” Sanders

Mr. Heyward “Buck” Sanders, age 82, husband of Mary Ann Ham Sanders of 134 Mt. Joy Church Rd., Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mr. Sanders was born in Union, SC January 13, 1933, a son of the late John Thomas Sanders and Pearl May Sanders. He retired from Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company and was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. Mr. Sanders was a Veteran of the US Army.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a sister, Cornelia Sanders O’Shields and husband Edward; a brother, Wallace Sanders and wife Peggy of Pacolet; a sister-in-law, Jency Ham; a brother-in-law, Bo Ham both of Jonesville and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Sanders was predeceased by a sister, Rachel Sanders Smith; a brother, Ned Arthur Sanders and a nephew, Paul Heyward Smith.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan West and Rev. Jeff Farmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mark O’Shields, Lynn O’Shields, Jay Parks, Eric Parker, Kip Petty and Rick Black.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mary Charlotte Fallaw Bailey

Ms. Mary Charlotte Fallaw Bailey, age 63, of 222 South Boyce St., Union passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Bailey was born in Union, SC on August 7, 1952 a daughter of the late Charles Randolph Fallaw and Ruth Whitehead Fallaw.  She was a graduate of Union High School and USC Spartanburg where she received her nursing degree as a registered nurse.  Ms. Bailey worked as a registered nurse at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Home Health, Hospice, and Wallace Thomson Hospital.  She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Stanley Kevin Bailey and wife Shanna of Sanford, NC and John Mark “Pugs” Bailey and wife Spring of Jonesville; two grandchildren, Jackson Gabriel Bailey and Cooper Wallace Bailey; two brothers Billy Fallaw and wife Joanna of Conway, SC and John Fallaw and wife Dawn of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Josh Freeman.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. James C. Ammons, Jr., age 72, husband of Vicky Cato Ammons, of 271 Providence Rd., Spartanburg passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ammons was born in Union, SC on April 10, 1943 a daughter of the late James C. Ammons, Sr. and Marjorie Fowler Ammons.  He was graduate of Union High School and Mars Hill College.  He was employed with L.P. Gas for 38 years.  Mr. Ammons was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church where he was a trustee of the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Christy Senn and husband Conrad of Greer; two sons, James C. Ammons, III and wife Allison of Easley and Kevin C. Ammons and wife Kristen of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Blake Senn, Alex Senn, Tyler Senn, Jay Ammons, Ryan Ammons, Ashley Kate Ammons, Hollis Ammons, Maren Ammons, and Grady Ammons.  He was predeceased by a sister, Nicki Dease.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Richard Lewis.  Visitation will immediately follow the services.

Betty Woolen Harmon

Mrs. Betty Woolen Harmon, age 76, wife of Wayne H. Harmon of 119 Paula Circle, Union, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Harmon was born in Union, SC on December 28, 1938 a daughter of the late Elvin Woolen and Ruth Wright Woolen.  She was a graduate of Union High School.  Mrs. Harmon was a member of Unity United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the UMW.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Betsy Leach and husband Wey of Greenville; a granddaughter, Alexandra Fowler of Greenville; God-Children, Randy “Chump” and Susan Hanvey and their daughter Mary Beth Hanvey of Union.

The family has scheduled private services.

Mrs. Lynn Shugart Parkins, age 59, wife of William L. “Donnie” Parkins of 2103 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Parkins was born in Union, SC on December 28, 1955 a daughter of James “Dickie” Shugart of Lockhart and the late Marlene Smart Shugart.  She was a native of Lockhart where she was 1974 graduate of Lockhart High School and was a supporter of Lockhart athletics all of her life.  Mrs. Parkins attended Lockhart First Baptist Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband and father are three sons, Jondavid Parkins of Lockhart, Jared Parkins and wife Christy of Lockhart, and Jordan Parkins and friend Kaitlyn Miller of Lockhart; one sister, Leigh S. Swad and husband Daniel of Pauline; two brothers, Marty Shugart and wife Michelle of Union and Travis Shugart and wife Julie of Lockhart; three granddaughters, Abigayle Parkins, Maddie Parkins, and Ella Kate Parkins

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Lockhart Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Delos Blanton and Rev. Steve Lemons.

Mrs. Doris Raye Wix, age 69, of 242 Barnado Rd., Union, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wix was born in Union, SC on October 17, 1946 a daughter of Wilma Valentine Wix of Union and the late Veston Ray Wix.  She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was retired from Retail and Real Estate Sales.  Mrs. Wix was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter Shana Cousino and husband Mark of Union; a son, Hayward Baber and Special friend Cindy of Union; two grandchildren, Lindsey Cousino and Shelby Cousino; and a special little boy, Andrew.  She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Gene Wix.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2015 at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Allen West.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 12:00 until 1:00 PM Friday prior to the services at the church.

Mrs. Wanda Joan Fowler Wilkins, age 58, wife of Bobby D. Wilkins of 1265 Cleveland Street Ext., Pacolet, SC.

Mrs. Wilkins was born in Spartanburg, SC January 23, 1957, a daughter of the late Carolyn Fowler Bright. She a member of Silica Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilkins was a loving wife and mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons: Matthew “Fatback” Wilkins of Boiling Springs and David Wilkins of the home; a sister; two brothers and four grandchildren. Mrs. Wilkins was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Silica Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Billy Elder. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 12:00-1:30 PM Saturday in the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Sue Monroe Bridges, age 56, of 116 Woodlawn Ave., Union, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on April 16, 1959 a daughter of the late Stanley G. Monroe and Faye White Monroe.  She was a graduate of Union High School and was employed with Ellen Sagar Nursing Center.  Mrs. Bridges was a loving and devoted mother.

Surviving are one son, Chad Bridges and wife Angela of the home; one grandson, Connor Bridges of the home; one sister, Carol A. Lawson and husband Robert of Union; one niece, Grace Lawson; three nephews, Michael Lawson, Joshua Willard, and Matthew Lawson; and a childhood friend, Lisa H. Rogers of Union. She was predeceased by one brother, Gene Monroe.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2015 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Lawson.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Miss Nancy Lewis Strother, age 82 of Miami, FL, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Aventura Hospital & Medical Center, Aventura, FL.

Miss Strother was born in Santuck, SC January 24, 1933, a daughter of the late Lewis Talmadge Strother and Kate Mobley Jeter Strother. She was a graduate of Union High School, Newberry College and received her Librarian Certification from Appalachian State. She retired as an Elementary Librarian of the Dade County School System in Miami, Florida after over thirty years of service

Surviving are three sisters: Jeannie B. Strother of Charlotte, Mary Kate Raker of Charlotte and Bonnie S. Lawrence and husband George of Union; a brother-in-law, Charles Gaines of Mt. Airy, GA; a niece, Sally C. Raker; three nephews: John F Raker, Lewis T. Raker and Michael C. Lawrence; three great nieces and two great-great-nieces. Miss Strother was predeceased by a sister, Gloria S. Gaines.
