Ms. Debra Jean Babb, age 59 of 312 Putman Rd., Buffalo, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at her home.

Ms. Babb was born July 9, 1960 in Union, a daughter of the late James H. Babb and Emma Jean West Babb.  She previously worked at Conso.  Ms. Babb was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Donald Babb and wife Virginia of Putman; a niece, Donielle Gresham and husband Tyler of Putman; a great-niece, Bristol Marie Gresham; a great-nephew, Colt Gresham; two uncles, Harold Babb and James Carl Babb and wife Lynn all of Putman; and her extended family, Allen Johnston, Patrick Kelly Johnston and special friend, Shelia Crocker, and Michelle Johnston and fiancée Gene and their children, Emily, Christopher, and Lilith.  She was predeceased by her fiancée, Terry Marvin Sprouse and a brother, Carrol Edward Babb.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 2, 2019 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tommy Mann.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Neal Gregory, Heath Gregory, Scott Childers, Jason Ivey, Billy Burgess, Harold Gregory, Mike Ivey, and Chad Lawson.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice for their love and care during Ms. Babb’s illness.

Mrs. Helen V. Belk

Mrs. Helen Vaughan Belk, age 92, of 351 Philippi Church Road, Union, SC, widow of Fred H. Belk, passed away early Thursday morning,  August 29, 2019 at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Belk was born September 13, 1926, in Union, a daughter of the late Sidney Vaughan and Frances “Fannie” Adams Vaughan.  She was a graduate of Union High School and a faithful member of Philippi Baptist Church.  Mrs. Belk was the oldest living member of Philippi at the time of her death and she was a member of Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She retired after forty-two years as director of Union County Office of Voter Registration.

Surviving are a daughter, Melinda B. Wilburn and two sons, Alfred Belk and wife Harriette and John Roy “Butch” Belk, all of Union; Grandchildren, Kevin H. Belk and wife, Charlotte of Charleston, James Belk and Kelly W. Shropshire and husband, Kevin all of Union; Betsy W. Hatten and husband, Jay of Greer; Amanda W. Ferguson and husband, Bill of Union; Stacy B. Lawson and husband, Chad of Piedmont; Myra B. Boulware and husband, Phillip of Union; and Kelsey B. Johnson and husband, Michael of Union; and twenty-one great grandchildren. Mrs. Belk was predeceased by three sisters, Katie Johnson, Margaret Howell and Dorothy Fowler and one great granddaughter, Mia Faith Shropshire.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert M. Scott, Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Chad Lawson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Belk, James Belk, Bill Ferguson, Jay Hatten, Kevin Shrophire, Phillip Boulware, Jamison Taylor and Andy Fowler.

Rosa Adean Dillard

Mrs. Rosa Adean Bryant Dillard, age 87, of 181 Turner St., Pacolet, widow of Loyd James Dillard, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Dillard was born in Ludville, GA, December 14, 1931, a daughter of the late Vance Buren Bryant and Lora Matthews Bryant. She was a graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from Carolina Cash in Spartanburg. Mrs. Dillard was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Lee of Pacolet and Billie Campbell and husband Dale of the home; one brother, Hugh Jay Bryant of Dalzell, SC; four grandsons, Jimmy Lee, Reggie Ellison, Stevie Ellison and wife Jamie and Clayton Campbell and wife Caitlin; four great-granddaughters, Bailey Ellison, Hannah Hyder, Jada Lee and Caydin Campbell; two great-grandsons, Holden Ellison and wife Brissa; one great-great-grandson, Kyzer Lee and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dillard was predeceased by a daughter, Terri Renee Dillard, a son, Stephen Loyd Dillard and three brothers, T.N. Bryant, William Z.T. Bryant and Jack Dempsey Bryant.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Pacolet United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dennis Tessnier. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Dillard’s grandson and great-grandsons will serve as the active pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday at the church prior to the services.

Mrs. Clorice Henderson Mayo, age 92, of 1928 Whitmire Hwy., Union, widow of Harold E. Mayo passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Mrs. Mayo was born October 29, 1926 in Union, a daughter of the late Verge David Henderson and Lillie Greer Henderson. She was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she served as nursery leader for forty-nine years, a member of the ADV the senior adult choir and the Jim Smith Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mayo worked for State Farm as a secretary and agent for forty-four years.

Surviving are two daughters, Marlene M. Sanders and husband, Billy and Lisa M. Leigh and husband, David both of Union; a son, Eddie Mayo and wife, Dawn of Union; two sisters, Lucille Hooper of Union and Armenter Martin and husband, Buck of Clinton; one brother, Donald L. Henderson and wife, Ann of Prosperity; a special friend, Deborah Adams of Union; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Jenkins and husband Matt, Jeff Sanders and wife Dana, Jeff Shick, Caroline Shick, Jonny Shick, Michael Leigh, Timothy Leigh and William Leigh; great-grandchildren, Ben Sanders, Nolan Sanders, Evie Jenkins, Dylan Sanders and Elliott Jenkins and a number of nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mrs. Mayo was predeceased by a grandsons, Bradley Mayo and Joseph Shick; a granddaughter, Amara Dawn Shick and brother, V.D. Henderson, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Pastor Chris Gulledge. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Mayo’s nephews and Troy Brewington.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:30 until 2:45 PM prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Donald “Don” Adams, age 74, widower of Susan Dianne Smith Adams, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Heartland of Union.

Mr. Adams was born November 30, 1945 in North Carolina.  He was retired from Milliken & Co.—Cedar Hill Plant and had previously worked with Special Needs children and adults.  Mr. Adams was a member of Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a stepson, Matthew Wilson of Union; a stepdaughter, Dianne Stebbins of Florida; and two grandchildren, Taylor Johnson and Tristen Johnson both of Florida. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Carrol Caldwell.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Mrs. Joyce White Grant, age 79, of 156 Martin Rd., Union, widow of Luther Clarence Grant, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Grant was born July 1, 1940 in Union, a daughter of the late Grace White.  She was a graduate of Union High School and retired from Freeman Gas Company after 16 years.  Mrs. Grant was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son, Brian Grant and wife Angela of Union; a sister Etta Laske and husband Joel of New Hope, PA; a granddaughter, Meredith Grant of Union; three nieces, Karen McGinn, Jennifer Wise, and Michelle McLoughlin; and two nephews, John Havrilla, Jr. and Anthony Havrilla.  She was predeceased by a brother, Bob White.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Jim Cunningham.

Active pallbearers will be Leonard Smith, John Martin, Elbert Wood, and Donnie White.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, John West, James Inabinett, Ben Smith, and Donald Hawkins.

Thomas E. ‘Bobby’ Hall, Sr.

MSgt. Thomas Edward “Bobby” Hall, Sr. (US Air Force Ret.) age 82, husband of Joyce Johnson Ward Hall of 1408 Main St., Buffalo, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Hall was born in Union, February 13, 1937, a son of the late Charlie and Barbara Hughey Hall. He was retired from the US Air Force and had also retired as a long-haul truck driver. Mr. Hall attended Buffalo Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 87, Buffalo.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Beverly Kunson of Utah, Amy Langston of California and Debbie Hall of Washington, DC; a son, Thomas Edward Hall, Jr. of Utah; a step-son, Ken Ward and wife Colene of Union; two sisters, Marie Lipscomb and Doris Claytor both of Spartanburg; a brother, Maston Hall of Union and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Hall was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Lisa Ward.

Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by Rev. Mike Bell and Rev. Douglas Estes.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the services.

Roger Dale Lipsey, Jr.

Mr. Roger Dale Lipsey, Jr. age 48, formerly of Spencer Rd., Jonesville, passed away in Greenville.

Mr. Lipsey was born April 4, 1971, a son of the late Roger Dale Lipsey, Sr. and Sybil Bradburn Lipsey.  He attended Jonesville High School and worked in the textile industry.

Mr. Lipsey is survived by a sister, Jill L. Adams and husband Jason of Jonesville and three nephews, Jason Adams, Jr., Austin and Preston Adams.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

James Donald Maness

Mr. James Donald Maness, age 85, of 4929 Lockhart Hwy., Union, widower of Eunice Elayne Brecto Maness, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Maness was born July 8, 1934 in Union, a son of the late James Wilbur Maness and Jeanette Merle Baldwin Maness.  He retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of service as Chief Petty Officer, during which time he served his country in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

Surviving are two daughters, June Cesil of Spartanburg and Debra Matthews of Gilbert; his companion, Georgiana Williams of the home; two granddaughters, Ashley Gardner and Kelly Kleckey both of Gilbert; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Learnard and Peyton Kleckey both of Gilbert.  He was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Malenburg

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Wayne Lowcock, age 81, of 809 Meadow Woods Rd., Buffalo, widower of Elocyle Glidden Lowcock, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Lowcock was born September 25, 1937 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, a son of the late George and Verna Lowcock.  He was retired from the United State Navy having served in Vietnam.  Mr. Lowcock was a member of the Apostolic Life Church of Union.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki Toney and husband Rolph of Buffalo; a son, Shawn Lowcock of the home;  a step daughter, Cindy Messer of Louisiana; a step son, James Dean Clark of Maine; seven grandchildren, Jessica Toney of Jonesville, Magen Barber of Buffalo, Chris Lee of Buffalo, Danielle Messer of Union, Frank Toney of Union, Mike Messer of Florida, and Becky; two brothers, Pep Lowcock of Vermont and Bruce Lowcock of Wales; four sisters-in-law, Kathleen Bly of Jonesville, Linda Zuraw of Buffalo, Patricia McConnell and Carolyn Crawford both of Connecticut; one brother-in-law, Linwood Glidden of Enoree; and a number of great grandchildren.

Mr. John William Bright, age 63, of 295 Hill Rd., Spartanburg, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Bright was born November 14, 1955 in Spartanburg, a son of Lola Hill Bright of the home and the late Leroy Bright. He was a retired carpenter and a Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard.  Mr. Bright was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Marla Bright Sutphin and husband Joseph and Teria Webb and husband Johnny all of Rutherfordton, NC; two sons, Steven Bright and wife Jennifer of Spartanburg and Troy Bright and wife Heather of Marion, NC; three sisters, Susie Wilson of Spartanburg, Barbara Sanders of Ellenboro, NC and Myra Smith of Pacolet; eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by one brother, Frank Bright and two sisters, Nancy Parris and Doris Stafford.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Michael Rochester.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Talmadge W. Adams

Mr. Talmadge Waldemar Adams, age 68, husband of Debra Baber Adams of 755 Webber Lake Road, Union, SC passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.

Mr. Adams was born in Union, SC., October 26, 1950 a son of the late James Earl Adams and Elsie Skoog Adams. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Spartanburg Technical College.  Mr. Adams was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in Vietnam.  He was retired from the South Carolina National Guards, serving as a Unit Administrator at the Laurens National Guard Armory and previously served as Maintenance Supervisor for the Union National Guard Armory. Prior to becoming a full-time employee of the South Carolina National Guards, Mr. Adams owned and operated Adams Auto Service.  He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and Union Masonic Lodge # 75.  Talmadge loved his family but particularly adored his grandchildren Anna Kate and Andrew.

Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-seven years, Debra, are two daughters, Jennifer Adams Brown and husband, Richard, Jan Adams Carter and husband John, one son, Jonathan Adams and wife, Katie all of Union; two grandchildren, Andrew Adams Brown and Anna Kate Adams both of Union; two sisters, Deborah Crisp and Jennie Adams and a brother, Richard Adams all of Jonesville; two brothers-in-law, Sammy Clark and wife Lorene of Martinez, GA and Van Anderson and wife Christine of Sumter, SC and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mr. Adams was predeceased by two sisters, Linda Kinsey and Lois Garner and two brothers, Michael Adams and Oscar Adams.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at New Life Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Shannon Faulkner and Rev. Todd Davis.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Porter Gallman Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Bessie Carol Gibson Vinson, age 85, wife of H.A. “Buck” Vinson of 106 Walker Hts., Union, SC went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 10, 2019. Bessie and Buck had been married for sixty-seven years.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Union, February 19, 1934, a daughter of the late White Gibson and Hattie Davis Gibson. She was a graduate of Union High School and formerly employed at Her Majesty as a seamstress. Mrs. Vinson was a devoted member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, where she was a member of The Margie Morris Sunday School Class and helped with Vacation Bible School.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Buck, are four daughters, Cynthia Vinson Williams and husband I.B. of NC., Anita Vinson Carson and husband, Trey of VA., Kaye Vinson Driggers and husband, Tim of Irmo, and Lori Ann Vinson Summers of Columbia; a sister, Margie Gibson Goodwin and husband, Bill of Jonesville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Vinson was predeceased by one sister, Doretha Gibson and three brothers, Preston Gibson, Howard Gibson and Eulis Gibson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by her son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Tim Driggers, Rev. Benny Greene and Rev. Chris Gulledge. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Fox, age 83, of 149 Tanglewood Dr., Union, widower of Shirley Boulware Fox passed away Monday August 5, 2019 at his home.   

Mr. Fox was born May 1, 1936 in Union a son of the late Ralph J. Fox and Anna Lou Arrowood Fox.  He was retired from Sonoco Plastics.  Mr. Fox was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard—Union Unit.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are two sons, Randy Fox and wife Amanda of Jonesville and Wayne Fox of Union; a daughter, Arlene Fox Gregory of Spartanburg; a brother, Joe Fox of Texas; five grandchildren, Stephen Brewington, Chris Brewington, Amy Fox, Eric Fox, and Garrett Fox; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three sisters, Carolyn Hewitt, Jeanette Gibson, and Linda Wilbanks and one brother, Tony Fox.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Mrs. Lisa Ann Kendrick Davis, age 56, wife of Charles Vernon Davis, Jr. of Cross Hill, SC, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood.

Mrs. Davis was born in Union, September 30, 1962, a daughter of the late Billy Kendrick and Brenda Dover Kendrick Duncan.  She was formerly employed with American Home Patient. Mrs. Davis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Amanda Lynn Davis and friend William Lester Connor of Union and Brook Charlene Davis and friend Joseph Cody Lawter of Carlisle; one son, Billy Lee Shannon Davis and friend Kayla Millwood of Carlisle; a sister, Joni Duncan Wilson of Laurens; a brother, John Duncan of Laurens; two step-brothers, Johnny Duncan and Joey Duncan both of Laurens; and seven grandchildren: Carlee Pauline Davis, Mia Adelene Davis, Andrea Jordan Davis, Zachary Brian Davis, Savannah Dakota Davis, Sierra Shyann Davis and Keltsey Nicole Thomason.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Pineridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Kenny Weaver. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery.
