Louie D. Whitt

Mr. Louie Defoye Whitt, age 78, husband of Betty J. Sprouse Whitt of 70 Pecan St., Pacolet, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Mr. Whitt was born in Cherokee Co., June 13, 1939, a son of the late Clarence Fate Whitt and Ella Willis Whitt. He was retired from Sanders Brothers construction in Gaffney and was a member of Hammett Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Gregory Dale Whitt and wife Pamela of Gaffney and Defoye Whitt and wife Tammy of Pacolet; a sister, Evelyn Reynolds of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Clayton Whitt, Alex Whitt, Ashley Whitt, Amber Putnam, Cassie Whitt, D.J. Whitt and Brandon Deaton and three great-grandchildren.  Mr. Whitt was predeceased by a step-son, John Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Hammett Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Clint Phillips and Rev. Darren Willis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

The family will be at the home, 70 Pecan St., Pacolet.

James R. "Jim" Fleming
April 24, 1937 - April 25, 2018


James R. "Jim" Fleming, age 81 of Temple, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5:00-8:00pm Monday, April 30, 2018 at the funeral home.

James Robert Fleming was born on April 24, 1937 in Union, South Carolina to the late James Irving Fleming and Edna Mae Wix Fleming. He attended schools in Union, South Carolina. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class in 1975. He married Emeraldine Cobb of Rogers on October 26, 1962 in Temple. He attended McLennan Community College, Temple Junior College and received his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Texas. Jim then worked at the Bellmead Post Office as a letter carrier and retired from there as Postmaster. Jim loved traveling and watching western movies. He also loved Temple Wildcat Football and Baseball, UT Football and the Dallas Cowboys. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; an infant daughter, Vanessa Rochea Fleming; a brother, Carl Fleming and a granddaughter, Twila Huffman.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Emeraldine "Dina" Cobb Fleming of Temple; two daughters, Darla Huffman and husband Bill of Temple and Shawn Niersmann and husband Dennis of Heidenheimer; a son, Mickey Lee Fleming and wife Wanda of Union, South Carolina; two sisters, Jessica Fleming of Daphne, Alabama and Brenda Fleming of Union, South Carolina; two brothers, Arthur Fleming and wife Mary Ann of Roebuck, South Carolina and Cedric Fleming and wife Linda of Union, South Carolina; grandchildren, Bret Friemel and wife Crystal of Salado, Christopher Fleming and wife Kristin of Union, South Carolina, Tiffany Hoff of Temple, Michael Fleming of Union, South Carolina, Anthony Niersmann, Jr. of Heidenheimer, Damian White and wife Ashlyn of Gatesville, Sarah Huffman of Temple and Tony Huffman and wife Kayla of Foyil, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Chelsea, Adam, Bryson and Conner Fleming of Union, South Carolina, Paisley and Kyndal Friemel of Salado, Texas, Brayden and Jameson Hoff of Temple and Saoirse and Isolde White of Gatesville. Mrs. Helen Edwards Carter, age 94, of 138 Fant St., Union, widow of Floyd J. Carter, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Carter was born June 21, 1923 in Union, SC a daughter of the late John William Edwards and Lula Keisler Edwards Vinson.  She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for most of her life where she was the Chairman of the Women’s Society, the Seniors group, and could be found helping in the kitchen and decorating the church for special events, including Bible School, where she made sure the children had their refreshments.  Her mission was to call the sick and shut in to see how they were doing, she had many great friends.  Helen cooked at O’Dells Café in Monarch for several years.  Then she worked at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home until her retirement in 1975.

Surviving are three daughters, Joan Garner, Sonja Hicks, and Annette Garner, all of Union; two sons, Floyd W. Carter and wife Linda and Dennis K. Carter and wife Dianne all of Union; two brothers, Ralph Edwards of Union and Francis Vinson of Maine; a special little boy, reared in the home, Steven Wallen; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Carter was predeceased by a son, Floyd J. Carter, Jr.; a grandson, Michael Scott Hicks; a great-grandson, Hunter Wayne Carter; three brothers, Jake, Gerald and Bobby Edwards.

Graveside services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Robert Wentz.  Visitation will be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

The family would like to thank MSA Hospice of Union, Stephanie Sherbert, Kiki Epps, Chasity Rochester, Dustin Miller, and Dr. David Keith and her very special family member and caregiver Wanda Garner.

Alvin Aubry “Al” Adams, Jr.

 Mr. Alvin Aubry “Al” Adams, Jr., age 57, husband of Susan Smith Adams, of 111 Wingfield Dr., Union, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

 Mr. Adams was born on August 26, 1960 in Union, a son of Alvin Aubry Adams, Sr. and Rosanell Alexander Adams.  He attended Gainesville Jr. College and received a bachelor’s degree in Business from Brenau University in Gainesville.  Mr. Adams was the Human Resources Manager and currently employed with Vapor Apparel in Union.  He was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church.  Mr. Adams was a member of the South Carolina High School Football Officials Association and the Union Clemson Club. 

 Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Taylor Susanne Adams and fiancé George Patrick McLeer, Jr. of Greenville and Hannah Adams Craft and husband Dr. Joseph Franklin Craft of Birmingham, AL; a brother, Ron Alexander Adams and wife Cheryl Groves Adams and their children, Megan and fiancé Eric King, Joni, and Logan of Rock Hill; his mother and father-in-law, Edgar and Judy Smith of Cleveland, GA; a brother-in-law, Travis Smith and wife Kirsten and their children, Connor and Katherine of Cleveland, GA; a sister-in-law, Leslie Powell and husband Mark and their children, Addison and Brooklyn of Buford, GA; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 27, 2018 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Chris Gulledge and Rev. Robert Alexander.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
 Active pallbearers will be Steve Cobb, John Kingsmore, Mike Todd, Robert Stapleton, Benjy Brown, and Randy Brown.  The South Carolina High School Football Officials Association—Spartanburg District is asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort.

Mrs. Marjorie Greer Marcello, age 71 of 284 Shiloh Church Rd., Pauline, SC, widow of Theodore Marcello, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Mrs. Marcello was born in Union, SC, a daughter of the late John Greer and Leora Bevis Greer. She was a graduate of Union High School and Winthrop College. Mrs. Marcello retired from Butler, Means, Ivans & Browne, PA as legal secretary and office manager. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed life.

Surviving are a son, P. Ryan Marcello and wife Samantha of Greenville; a companion, Larry Wilson of Pauline; three grandchildren:  Bella, Marco, and Thea Marcello of Greenville; a sister, Sally Hart of West Springs and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel

Visitation will be held 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday in the chapel prior to the service.

Furman Lester Henderson

Mr. Furman Lester Henderson, age 88 of 701 Toney Rd., Union, widower of Sara Crocker Henderson, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Henderson was born in Union, SC September 22, 1929, a son of the late Irby “Hoss” Fowler and Lincie Henderson Horne. He was a graduate of Union High School and retired from United Merchants- Buffalo Plant. Mr. Henderson had also worked for the S.C. Department of Corrections. He was a Veteran of the US Airforce and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Tony Henderson and wife Teresa of Union; three grandchildren: Anthony F. Henderson and wife Katy of Union, Morgan H. Rholetter and husband Allen of Franklin, NC and Gordon Alan Henderson and wife Nicole of Spartanburg; four great-grandchildren: Sarah Hope Henderson of Union, Kavelin Gage Rholetter of Franklin, NC, Michael Furman Henderson and Christopher Reiman Henderson both of Spartanburg. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by a son, Lester Gene Henderson.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2018 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris Guledge and Mr. Jamie Cohen. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with Military Honors.

Mrs. Sue Ramsey Davis, age 63, wife of George W. “Butch” Davis, Jr., of 202 Cambridge Drive, Union, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Davis was born in Union, SC June 27, 1954, a daughter of the late Thurman E. Ramsey and Ruth Johnson Ramsey. She was graduate of Union High School and retired from Timken. Mrs. Davis was a member of Putman Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Amy D. Pittman and husband Matt of Union; a son, Timothy K. Davis and wife Kim of Union; two sisters: Joan Christopher and husband Gary of Pulaski, TN and Melissa Ramsey of Union; two brothers: Steve Ramsey and wife Barbara of Buffalo and Mark Ramsey of Union and eight grandchildren: Kayla Sue Barber and husband Dillon, Morgan Pittman, Riley Pittman, Corey Gill, Carmen Davis, Cayla Gregory, Hannah Gregory and Peyton Gregory.

James Carlisle Oxner, Jr.
Columbia, S.C.


James Carlisle Oxner Jr., age 79, died April 15, 2018, after an extended illness. He was born in Columbia, SC on July 11, 1938, son of J. Carlisle Oxner and Eveline Adams Oxner. 

He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1962, he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and began his practice of law in general civil litigation. In 1988, he added a banking career, becoming chairman of the board and president of Arthur State Bank and Arthur Financial Corporation. Mr. Oxner continued his careers until his death. 

Mr. Oxner was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, the Society of Colonial Wars in the state of South Carolina, Lower Richland Society, Forest Lake Club, Pine Tree Hunt Club and the Flamenco Club. He was a former member of the advisory board of the Medical University of South Carolina and co-chair of the South Carolina State Museum Foundation. Mr. Oxner, known to many as “Chop,” was a devoted bird hunter, conservationist, keen Backgammon competitor and collector of old books, especially those by South Carolina authors. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Arthur Oxner, with whom he had three children: Frances Oxner of Greensboro, NC, J. Carlisle Oxner III (Kris) of Union, SC and Harry Arthur Oxner (Stephanie) of Pawleys Island, SC; five grandchildren: Frances Jorgenson, Wallace Jorgenson, Elizabeth Ashleigh Oxner Malm (James), Ellison and Harry Oxner. Thereafter, he married Frances Jenkins Martin of Charleston, SC, who predeceased him. His stepchildren are Robert Hayden McDowell (Kristie), Frances Jenkins McDowell Bailey (Steven), William Nevil McDowell (Jill) and six step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Charles Waring, Jr (Jane Elizabeth Oxner) of Charleston, SC, and his nephew, Charles W. Waring III, and nieces, Eveline Adams Waring, MD and Laura Waring Gruber, all of Charleston, SC. 

The relatives and friends of J. Carlisle Oxner, Jr. are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 o’clock, Friday, April 20, 2018, at the graveside, Elmwood Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Jack L. Gaston, Sr., age 84, husband of Martha Jordan Gaston of 310 Union Rd., Lockhart passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Gaston was born in Lockhart, February 9, 1934, a son of the late Lawrence Carl Gaston and Kate Love Gaston. He was employed with Gaston Logging and was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing.  Mr. Gaston was a member of the Lockhart Church of God and the Lockhart Masonic Lodge #244. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Bonnie Gaston Mull and husband Edgar Mull, Jr. of Clover; two sons, Jack Gaston, Jr. and wife Elaine and Jerry Jordan and wife Judy all of Lockhart; grandsons, Eddie and Kelly Mull and their children, Jay and Walt of Clover, Brian and Janet Gaston and their children, Isabella and Madelyn of Lockhart, Greg and Mandy Mull and their child Riley of York and Jeff and Angel Cogdill and their children Brittany, Amanda and Taylor.   Mr. Gaston was predeceased by a son, Terry Jordan and his wife Juanita, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Lockhart Church of God conducted by Rev. Allen McKee. Burial will be at Bullocks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wallace Preston Whitehead, Jr., age 51 of 127 Grant Rd., Union, passed away at his home, Monday April 16, 2018.

Mr. Whitehead was born in Union, October 20, 1966, a son of Brenda Carol Matthews Whitehead of Union and the late Wallace P. Whitehead, Sr.  He was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing.  Mr. Whitehead was a very hardworking, God-fearing, family man who loved to help his family and friends any way he could.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a son, Matthew Austin Whitehead of the home; his best friend for over 20 years, Dawn Wynn; two step-sons, Michael Wynn and Kenneth Wynn; a sister, Debra W. Mitchell; one nephew, William Mitchell; one niece, Jessie Mitchell and a step-grandson, Cayden Wynn.  Mr. Whitehead was predeceased by a brother, Gene Whitehead.

A memorial service will be scheduled by the family for a later date.

James Michael McDade, Sr.

Mr. James Michael “Mike” McDade, Sr., age 63, passed away at his home in Charleston on April 8, 2018. He was the owner and operator of J&R Liquors on John’s Island, SC. 

Mr. McDade was born on February 11, 1955 and was the son of the late James H. McDade and wife Peggy and Juanita M. Hayes.  Surviving are two sons, James M. “Jamie” McDade, Jr. and fiancée Ana Marie Moore of Charleston and Ensign Jacob M. McDade of Chicago, IL; a granddaughter, Haley N. McDade of Charleston and his step-father, Dennis Hayes of Phoenix, AZ.

Memorials services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel conducted by Rev. Randy Burgess. Visitation will be prior to the services from 2:00 until 3:00 PM.

Patricia Ann McCanne

Mrs. Patricia Ann Slice McCanne, age 63, of 210 Hope Dr., Lockhart, passed away suddenly Friday, April 13, 2018 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. McCanne was born in Newberry, August 24, 1954, a daughter of the late Patrick and Willie Mae Free Slice.  She was a homemaker and a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother and Friend.

Surviving are a daughter, April Sherbert and fiancée James Boulware, Jr. of the home; a son, Allen Fuller and wife Donna Jane of Georgia; a sister, Betty Slice of Newberry; two brothers, Oscar Ray Slice and wife Toni and Willie Slice all of Newberry; a special friend, James Boulware, Sr. of the home; two special daughters, Linda Martin and husband Aaron and Delena Hedrick all of Lockhart; her best friend, Lois Parrish of Lockhart; seven grandchildren, Jasmine Sherbert, Jase Patterson, Shaleigh Patterson, Kami Fuller, Drew Fuller, Johnathan Boulware, and Mary Bush; two great-grandchildren, Athenah Boulware and Johnathan Boulware, Jr. and her beloved pet dog, Jack.  Mrs. McCanne was predeceased by two brothers, James and John Slice.

Mrs. Mary Lee Vance Eaves, age 89, of 4751 Lockhart Hwy., Union, widow of Paul Ralph Eaves, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Eaves was born February 17, 1929 in Lockhart, SC. She was a daughter of the late Robert Byron Vance and Germie Rash Vance.  Mrs. Eaves retired from Milliken & Co.—Lockhart Plant after 44 years.  She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Mary Ruth Vanderford Sunday School Class.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ann E. Grady and husband Wayne of Union, Julia Eaves of Union, and Kellie Eaves of Anderson; three sons, Ronnie Lee Eaves, Stan Eaves and wife Marlene and Tommy Eaves all of Union; one brother, Bill Vance and wife Joyce of North Highlands, CA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 13, 2018 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Mr. Mike Massey.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

Ms. Candas Rogers Adams, age 57, of 12 Marquette Rd., Simpsonville, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at Rosewood Assisted Living in Pauline.

Mrs. Adams was born October 6, 1960 in Jacksonville, FL a daughter of the late Basha Rogers.  She was a graduate of Carroll High School in Corpus Christy, TX.  Mrs. Adams was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Shane Adams of the home and Brandon Hagan of Ohio and four grandchildren.

Services will be scheduled by the family at a later date.

Mr. Michael William “Mike” Ford, age 63, husband of Kara Moore Ford of 144 Morningside Dr., Pauline, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Union Medical Center.

Mr. Ford was born in Union, November 29, 1954, a son of the late Robert William Ford and Bobbie Ruth Adams Ford Snyder and husband Harold J. “Bill” Synder. He devoted many years to training horses and had retired after many years working at Wingo Tire.  Mr. Ford loved to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his family.  He was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Pauline.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jenifer F. Bradley and husband Mitch of Chapin, and Karley Ford of Columbia; a son, Kip Fleming of the home; a granddaughter, Kennedy Fleming of Union; a special great-niece, Kaydence Chadwick of Pacolet; two brothers, Tommy Ford and wife Judy and Rev. Lynn Ford and wife April all of Buffalo; a sister, Kathy F. Youngblood and husband Steve of Buffalo; a special aunt, Pearl A. Farr of Union and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Brian Harris and Rev. Chris Collins. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Janie Scott Childers, age 81, wife of James Ralph Childers of 203 Putman Rd., Buffalo, SC passed away peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2018 at her home.

Born August 24, 1936, she was the daughter of A.G (Bub) Scott and Marie Gregory Scott. She was a graduate of Union High School and Spartanburg School of Cosmetology. She traveled with her husband and sons, Scott and Glen, until her husband retired from the United States Air Force. She then worked as a paraprofessional with Sims Jr. High School for 25 years.

Mrs. Childers was a faithful member of Putman Baptist Church where she loved the Lord. At Putman Baptist Church, she sang in the Adult Choir, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, and served on various other committees. She was presently a member of the Young at Heart Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 61 years are two sons; Scott Childers and wife Nancy and Glen Childers and wife Teresa of Buffalo; Grandchildren, Brandy Palmer of Buffalo, Jessica Sherbert and husband Scott of Union, Charlie Childers and wife Brandy of Buffalo, Kala Robinson and husband Larry “Turtle” of Union, Samantha Childers and Tia Childers, both of Buffalo; great-grandchildren, Krista Terry and husband Cameron of Greer, Brooklyn Palmer of Buffalo, Jay, Mia, Ben and Sam Sherbert  of Union, Dillan McAlister and Emma Grace Childers of Buffalo, and Dixie and Aria Robinson of Union; 1 great-great grandson, Carter Terry of Greer; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Scott Youngblood. Mrs. Childers was predeceased by a sister, Mary Nell Scott and a brother Curtis Scott.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, April 9, 2018 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tommy Mann and Rev. Donald Tillman. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The following are asked to serve as Active pallbearers, Deryl Gault, Harold Gregory, Tommy Petty, Matt Pittman, James Poole and Ricky Scott.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David Heatherly, Curt and Beverly Gregory, members of the Young at Heart Sunday School Class, Stephanie Sherbert, Stephanie Blanton, Markitta Johnson and Gail Hyatt.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home, MSA Hospice, and all the caregivers for all the attention, devotion and love shown to her.

Beverly C. Russell, Jr.

Mr. Beverly Carradine Russell, Jr., age 70, husband of Lisa Snyder Russell of Jameson Dr., Roebuck, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Russell was born in Union, May 10, 1947, a son of the late Beverly C. Russell, Sr. and Gladys Virginia Lambright Russell. He was a graduate of Union High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Russell was a financial advisor having operated his own firm for many years. He also owned thirteen Jackson Hewitt Tax offices in the Upstate. He was an active member of the Republican Party.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Holley Abee of Lugoff, Lori Damron of Charleston and Tami Alman of Pauline; one son, John Matthew Russell of Inman; three step-sons, Chad Palmer of Atlanta, Ryan Palmer of Powdersville and Alex Palmer of Great Falls, Montana; six grand-children, Trey Newton, Christopher Abee, Jessica Abee, Lane McLeod, Morgan McLeod, Ansli Stanford; and five great-grandchildren, Delaney Newton, Buddy Newton, Colton Adams, Oakley Abee and Gracyn Duncan. Mr. Russell was predeceased by a sister, Lula Russell.

Graveside services were held at 6:00 PM Friday, April 6, 2018, at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Curt Bradford.

Active pallbearers were Lane McLeod, David Rogers, Chad Palmer, Alex Palmer, Ryan Palmer, Trey Newton, Nick Phillips and Jimmy Tate.

Emma Deane Osteen Allen

Mrs. Emma Deane Osteen Allen, age 90 of 817 Sardis Road, Union, widow of Claude Mills Allen passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Allen was born December 12, 1927 in Zirconia, NC a daughter of the late James Everette Osteen, Sr. and Della Mae Summey Osteen.  She was a 1944 graduate of Flat Rock High School and grew up attending Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where her father was minister. She met her future husband, Claude, who was also a son of a Baptist minister that visited her father’s church as a child. She served the church as a Song Leader and member of the Ladies Quartet as a teenager.

Mrs. Allen was active in the organization of Southside Fire Dept. having served in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and “Nana” to a lot of people in her life. Mrs. Allen was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Paula A. Moss and husband Gil of Laurens; three sons, Darwin Allen and wife Lynne, Martin Allen and wife Vickie, and Dean Allen and wife Julie all of Union; one sister, Joyce O. Whitmire of Zirconia, NC; one brother, Robert Osteen of Zirconia, NC; three grandchildren, Betsy Allen Henderson and husband Jonathan, Christopher Allen and wife Mandy, and Jennie Dean Allen; and one great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn.  Burial will follow in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Callahan, Warren Harrison, Eddie Williams, Rusty Young, Christopher Allen, and Jonathan Henderson.  The following are asked to be honorary escort, Roger and Judy Bailey, Phillip Bailey, Dudley and Hazel Adams, John and Joann Parris, and Wayne Owens.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mrs. Catherine Rollings Brown, age 68, of 122 Bird St., Union, passed away March 9, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Brown was born in Chester, June 30, 1949, a daughter of the late Fred L. Rollings and Edna Blackwell Rollings.  She is survived by her son, Johnny Varnadore of the home and a sister, Ruby Taylor of Pageland.
