Albert “Dick” Kitchens, Jr.
Mr. Albert G. “Dick” Kitchens, Jr. age 80, loving and devoted husband of Barbara Belk Kitchens for 62 years, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Kitchens was born in Lockhart, August 14, 1935, a son of the late Albert G. Kitchens, Sr., and Flora Mae Hawkins Kitchens. He retired from the Maintenance Department of Wallace Thomson Hospital following twenty years of service. Mr. Kitchens was a retired Senior Master Sgt. with the US Air Force having served in the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where he was a member of the Tom Alexander Sunday School Class. Mr. Kitchens was an avid golfer who passed his love of golf to many young golfers and he also loved fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are numerous nieces and nephews; three special great-nieces and great-nephews, Benson Fleming, Karson Fleming and Kellan Seaver. Mr. Kitchens was predeceased by a son, Joey Kitchens and a brother, Earl “Sonny” Kitchens.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff and nurses of DCI-Union, Ambu-Star, EMS, Blue Ridge Hospice and to the special caregivers, Robin, Lindsey, Kathy, Toni and Chaplain Jeff Dean for their care and concern of Mr. Kitchen during his illness.
Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Ritchie Van Tucker
Mr. Ritchie Van Tucker, age 58 of 173 Riley Rd., Buffalo, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Union Medical Center.
Mr. Tucker was born in Union, July 13, 1957, a son of the late William Rion Tucker and Iva Lee Brewington Tucker. He was a 1975 graduate of Union High School and was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing. Mr. Tucker was previously employed with Torrington Co., Union.
Surviving are his loving significant other, Robin Reece; a son, Benjamin Tucker of Germany; a step-son, Chris Reece and wife Ashley. Mr. Tucker was predeceased by a special aunt, Wilma Brewington Brawley.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016 at Buffalo United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ron Towery and Rev. Kevin Dalton. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Lance Jeter, Stanley Wells, Bucky Butler, Mark Walker, Eddie Ponder, and Todd Justice.

Sara B. Nickles
Mrs. Sara Jo Balchin Nickles, age 94, of 442 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, widow of William Wallace Nickles, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Nickles was born in Elbert Co., GA, November 12, 1921, a daughter of the late William Edgar and Jewel Frost Balchin. She was a graduate of the Nancy Hart Memorial High School, attended Georgia State College for Women and later graduated Greenwood College of Commerce. Mrs. Nickles worked at the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home for 26 years and thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the children. She served in many ways, mostly as a cottage mother until she retired. She was an active member of Philippi Baptist Church. Mrs. Nickles served her church as a devoted prayer warrior and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are a daughter, Jewel Gregory and husband Steve; three sisters, Billie Wilson, Doris Ashley and Flonnie Shaw and husband Tony; a special daughter, Harriett Locklair and husband William. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Nick Gregory and wife Nicole and their children, Makayla, Hailey and Gavin, and Andrea Gregory and her children, Baylee and Grant Butler and Drake Roberts and a special niece, Brenda Brown. Mrs. Nickles was predeceased by a sister, Maxie McDonald and a brother, George Balchin.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale and Mr. Tony Shaw. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.

Rachel Virginia Hardin
Mrs. Rachel Virginia Hughes Hardin, age 88 of 117 Spruce Street, Union, widow of Ralph Memory Hardin, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.
Mrs. Hardin was born in Ellenboro, NC, May 22, 1927, a daughter of the late James Richard Hughes and Flossie Flazor Hawkins Hughes. She retired from McClellans Dime Store and was a member of Union Church of God where she served as church clerk for over forty years. Mrs. Hardin was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a son, Mike Hardin and wife Connie of Union; two grandchildren: Brian Hardin and wife Trina and Tracey Wade and husband Mark and four great-grandchildren: Payton Deskins, Tanner Hardin, Libby Hardin and Gavin Wade.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Union Church of God. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Wanda M. Sturgill
Mrs. Wanda Marie Meade Sturgill of Jonesville, passed away April 25, 2016 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Sturgill left this world to be with God and her husband with her loving family by her side. She was 88 years old at the time of her passing.
A memorial service and celebration of her rich and fruitful life will be held at Mt. Joy Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Her family will receive friends at the church prior to the services, starting at 2:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church, 657 Pea Ridge Hwy., Jonesville, SC 29353. The family is at the home of her daughter, Carla and Eddie Rector, 400 Seigler Rd., Union.
Mrs. Sturgill, who was originally from Pound, VA, was an active and long-time member of Mt. Joy, where she served as church secretary for over 45 years. A dear friend to all those fortunate enough to know her, she was first and foremost known as an incredibly wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Never has one been so special to so many.
Mrs. Sturgill was predeceased by her brothers, Harold and Kenneth and her husband of 63 years, the late Mr. Ulus Carson Sturgill. She is survived by her brothers, Larry and Jerry, her daughter Glenda Lawson and husband Gerald, her son, Terry Sturgill and wife Belinda, and her daughter Karla Rector and husband Eddie.
Mrs. Sturgill was a proud grandma, a/k/a Nana, to three grandsons, Scott Lawson and wife Kim, Erich Sturgill and wife Julie, and Jason Rector. She was also Nana to four great-grandsons; Jakob and Jordan Lawson, and Bennett and Andrew Sturgill.
If one’s true worth and wealth is measured in both the good that he or she does and the love that he or she shares with others while on this earth, there has never been a richer soul that Wanda Sturgill.

Robert W. “Bob” Gist
Mr. Robert Wylie “Bob” Gist, age 92, husband of Helen Foster Gist of 305 Springdale Drive, Union, SC., passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Gist was born in West Springs on September 21, 1923, a son of the late David Christopher Gist and Claudia Wylie Gist. He was Graduate of West Springs High School and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. Mr. Gist retired from Parker Furniture after 25 years. He was a devoted member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, the Men’s Club, Merry Methodist and held various offices within the church.
Mr. Gist was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert W. Gist, Jr. of Elgin and Ronald Lee Gist of Union; 5 grandchildren, Amanda Yendall and husband Aaron of Union, Adrien Looper and husband Tim of Pickens, Amber Gist Laney and husband Brian of Kent, Ohio, Courtenay Alexis Gist of Charleston and Jedidiah Mahlon Gist of Clemson University; 2 great-granddaughters, Avery Elise Laney and Claire Looper ; 5 great-grandsons, Aeon Yendall, Adyn Yendall, Ethan Looper, Jacob Looper and Reese Looper.
He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Merritt Wentz. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Pauline Marie Levesque, age 55, wife of Kenneth Levesque of 105 Clifford Dr. Buffalo, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Mrs. Levesque was born in Middletown, Connecticut, April 20, 1961, a daughter of Stanley Pollander and the late Pauline Hesslman Pollander. She was a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her husband and father are her children, Kenny Roberts and wife Jessica of Fountain Inn, Jennifer Roberts of the home, Melissa Cannon of Buffalo, Samantha Phillips and husband Danny of Union and Lewis and Christy Cannon of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Marie Moore, Ann Moore, Peggy Walden all of Buffalo, and Sissy Darling of FL.; 2 brothers Bobby Pollander of Buffalo and Allen Walden of Conn.
Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Scott Cobb.

Willie Thomas Bobo
Mr. Willie Thomas Bobo, age 84 of 778 Browns Creek Church Rd., husband of Shirley Vaughan Bobo passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Union Medical Center.
Mr. Bobo was born in Union, SC on April 28, 1931 a son of the late Callie Brooks Bobo and Osie Shetley Bobo. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict and later the South Carolina National Guard. Mr. Bobo retired from Milliken & Co—Monarch Plant. He was an active member of Browns Creek Baptist Church where he held various positions in the church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Sheila Mize and husband Danny, Angie Davis and husband Johnny, and Tracy Garner and husband Kevin all of Union; one nephew reared in the home, Robert Wilkinson of Greenville; six grandchildren, Jon Mize and wife Brittany of Georgia, Adam Mize and wife Jenny of Union, Lacey Addis and husband Daniel of Woodruff, Brittaney Davis and husband Justin Hart of Union, Noah Garner of Union and Kallee Garner of Union; eight great-grandchildren, Carter Mize, Brice Mize, Luke Paschall, Brayden West, Analeigh Hart, Ryder Addis, Avery Addis, and Tanner Johnson. He was predeceased by one brother, Ralph Bobo and one sister, Joyce Bobo Wilkinson.

Ronald A. Henderson
Mr. Ronald A. Henderson, age 70, husband of Norma Kingsmore Henderson of 804 Riley Rd., Buffalo, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Henderson was born in Spartanburg, June 3, 1945, a son of the late M.Y. Henderson and Nina Cohen Henderson. He was a graduate of Union High School and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Henderson was retired from the SC Dept. of Corrections and formerly owned and operated Henderson Plumbing. He was a veteran of the US Marines having served in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Henderson was an active member of Covenant Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and Choir Director. He was a former member of Buffalo Baptist Church for 35 years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, leader of Vacation Bible School and taught the Men’s Sunday School Class. He also had been active with the Sunday School ministry at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home for 12 years.
Mr. Henderson was a private airplane pilot for over 40 years and had served on the Union Co. Airport Board. He had coached Little League Football and Baseball and loved to fish and fly planes. Mr. Henderson was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, David Henderson of Union; two daughters, Amy H. Gunter and husband Michael of Lexington, and Emily H. Ryan and husband Jason of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Faye H. Moss and husband Rufus of Atlanta; a brother, Ken Henderson of Union; six grandchildren, Tyler Gunter, Ethan Gunter, Jacob Gunter, Bethany Henderson, Alexa Ryan and Elias Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special great-niece, Olivia Long. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by a brother, Bob Henderson.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Covenant Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Cooke, Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. Lynn Ford.

Sallie Fowler Sanders
Mrs. Sallie Ethel Fowler Sanders, age 90, widow of William Manning Sanders, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Heartland of Union.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Union, October 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Martha Fowler Belue. She attended Kelly Pinckney High School and was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Martha S. Tollison and husband Wayne of Union; a son, Russell Gene Sanders of Jonesville and his fiancée Lisa Patti of Ft. Mill; a sister, Billie Fowler Lawter of Columbia; two granddaughters, Casie Jolly and husband Brad and Jackie Tollison all of Union; two great-grandchildren, Eva Jolly and Sophie Jolly. Mrs. Sanders was predeceased by brother, Otis Fowler.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, April 18, 2016, at Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Steve Lemons and Rev. Alan West.
Visitation will be immediately following the services at the cemetery.

Laura Vanderford Farr
Laura Vanderford Farr, age 89, widow of Ned D. Farr and formerly of 100 Churchill St., Union, passed away on April 13, 2016, at Lakeland Regional Health in Florida.
Mrs. Farr was born in Union County on March 29, 1927, daughter of the late Guy W. and Mary Ruth Vanderford.
She was a graduate of Union High School and attended King’s Business College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She retired from Milliken & Company, Monarch Plant, as Executive Secretary after 47 years of service. She also retired as Executive Director of the Union County Literacy Council after three years.
She was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, serving in many areas on the Administrative Board and was chairperson of several committees. For many years, she was Wesley Chapel’s youth leader and taught Sunday School. A class was named in her honor in 2003. In May 2004, a day was set aside to honor her and her husband, Ned.
She was predeceased by her husband. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Pam Farr of Lakeland, Florida; granddaughter Lauren F. Daggett and husband Brett, their sons Aiden and Wiley; grandson Matthew Farr and fiance Nicole Bonelli, all of Lakeland, Florida; and a sister, Dolly V. Mahaffey of Spartanburg.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, April 17, at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Donna Eidson, followed by visitation in the fellowship building with burial in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Farr, Brett Daggett, Aiden Daggett, Richard Kloskey, Mark Kloskey, Bowman Still, and Lawson Still.

Mrs. Catherine Holcombe Compton, age 84, of 525 Bishop Rd., widow of Albert Compton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Compton was born in Union, May 31, 1931, a daughter of the late Sidney and Alma Henderson Holcombe. She attended Union High School and was a retired textile worker. Mrs. Compton was a member of Lower Fairforest Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was first married to the late Charles Greer.
Surviving are a daughter, Martha Rogers of Union; two sons, Larry Charles Greer of Greer and Michael Greer of Union; a sister, Shirley Palmer of Buffalo; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Lower Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Jim Cunningham and Rev. Joe Smith.
Active pallbearers will be Brad Greer, Justin Greer, Alan Rogers, Leonard Smith, Sid Palmer and James Inabinette.

Mrs. Louise Scales Gregory, age 95, formerly of Lockhart, widow of Miles R. Gregory, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Lexington Medical Extended Care, Lexington, SC.
Mrs. Gregory was born in Union, SC December 30, 1920, a daughter of the late James M. Scales and Elizabeth Porter Scales. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School; a member of Lockhart First Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and was also a member of the Lockhart Senior Citizens.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda G. Fowler and husband Gene of Lexington; two grandsons: Greg Fowler and wife Angie and Jonathan Fowler and wife Debbie of Hanahan and four great-grandchildren: Miles, Greer, M.J. and Barrett Fowler. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by two sisters, Daisy Lee Young and Flora “Toby” Vaughan and three brothers, James, Robert and Charlie Scales.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Delos Blanton. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

James Bruce Lawson
Mr. James Bruce Lawson, age 65, husband of Diane Rodgers Lawson of 362 Putman Rd., Buffalo, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Mr. Lawson was born in Union, August 1, 1950, a son of the late James Sumner Lawson and Mary K. Lawson. He was a 1968 graduate of Union High School and was employed with Hexxon Company in Roebuck for the past 33 years. Mr. Lawson was a former member of the S.C. National Guard and attended Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. He was first married to the late Linda Ford Lawson.
Surviving are five sons, Brian Lawson and wife Angie of Buffalo, Rev. Chad Lawson and wife Stacy of Piedmont, Brad Lawson and wife Jennifer of Buffalo, Brad Rodgers and wife Heather of Ladson, and Chris Rogers of Mauldin; one daughter, Amanda Rodgers of Greenwood; a sister, Barbara Nell Casey and husband Ruskin of Woodruff; a granddaughter, Blayke Moore; seven grandsons, Hunter Lawson, John Michael Lawson, Bradley James Lawson, Harrison Lawson, Lee Wooton, Jacob Wooton, Chase Rodgers and Connor Rodgers and a special little girl, Jazzy.

Frances R. Woods
Mrs. Frances Roark Woods, age 82, widow of James Arthur “Jim” Woods of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016.
Mrs. Woods was born in Clover, NC, April 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Russell and Estelle Ashe Roark. She was a graduate of Union High School and retired after 37 years from Conso Products. Mrs. Woods was a faithful member of Hebron Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Union BPO Does Drove #148 for a number of years.
Mrs. Woods was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was a loving and Godly woman that lived and shared her faith in Jesus Christ with others. She was loved by everyone she came in contact with.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Woods of Batesburg and Lyda Cannon of Union; three sons, Randy Woods and wife Kathy and Kerry Woods and wife Marrisa all of Buffalo, and Harry Woods and wife Kathy of Union; two sisters, Mamie Lou Horne and husband Lewis, and Goldie Brock all of Union; two brothers, Albert Roark and wife Margaret and Russell Roark and wife Diane of Union; a special friend, Brenda Williams of Buffalo; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mrs. Woods was predeceased by a son, Jim Woods, Jr.; a grandson, Brian Woods; a granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Woods; three sisters, Faye Phipps, Bobbie Jean Baldwin and Dorothy Johns and one brother, Kenneth Roark.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Childers.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:30 PM Saturday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

PFC Aubrey Dean Vaughan
PFC Aubrey Dean Vaughan, age 20, passed away July 7, 1951 while serving in the Korean War. PFC Vaughan was taken captive by the North Koreans and held as a prisoner of war until his death.
PFC Vaughan was born in Union, April 12, 1931, a son of the late James Aubrey Vaughan and Bertha Henderson Vaughan. He attended Union County Schools and was employed at Excel Hosiery Mill prior to his military service. While serving in the US Army, PFC Vaughan was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Myra W. Heatherly; a grandson, Timothy Wayne Wilburn and wife Christie; two great-grandsons: Timothy Lee Wilburn and Joshua Kyle Wilburn all of Jonesville; two sisters: Maxine Duckett and husband Colon and Dorothy Grant and husband Larry all of Union; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special childhood friend, John Lee “Pie” Ward of Union. PFC Vaughan was predeceased by two sisters, Alma Faye Vaughan and Rita Hines and two brothers, James Vaughan and Joe Earl Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at SR Holcombe Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Elizabeth Gaile Guinn
Mrs. Elizabeth Gaile Guinn, age 77, wife of Lewis D. “ L.D.” Guinn of 206 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Guinn was born in Union, SC January 17, 1939, a daughter of the late Leroy Fowler and Sadie Mae Montgomery Fowler. She was a graduate of Lockhart High School and had attended Winthrop College. Mrs. Guinn retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the Joy Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Marianne Lennard and husband Danny of Clover; a son, Doug Guinn and wife Tammy of Pacolet; a sister, Gaye Broome and husband Danny of Boiling Springs; four grandsons: Eric Guinn, Phillip Guinn, Ross Lennard and Ryan Lennard and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Guinn was predeceased by a son, Eric Guinn and a brother, Nelson Fowler.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jim Palmer, Jerry Parks Alvin Justice, Robert Palmer, Jeff Bailey and Chris Abee.

Mr. Millus Childers, age 87, formerly of Union, widower of Mabel Florice Deal Childers, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Lake Emory Post Acute Care in Inman.
Mr. Childers was born in Lockhart, May 17, 1927, a son of the late Charles Childers and Pearl Lee Watts Childers. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Una Church of God of Prophecy. Mr. Childers was a loving Christian husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances C. Adkins of Edgemoor; a daughter-in-law, Rose M. Childers of Una; two sisters, Judy Mize and Stella Mae Porter both of Lockhart; two brothers, Irvin Childers and wife Yvonne of Buffalo and James Paul Childers of Lockhart; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Lockhart Cemetery.

Jane Lawter Valentine
Mrs. Jane Lawter Valentine, age 67, wife of Neil Valentine of 523 Lakeview Heights, Union, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Valentine was born in Union, April 17, 1948, a daughter of the late James Harry Lawter and Cornelia Smith Lawter. She was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg. Mrs. Valentine worked in the business office at United Merchants, Union Plant for 31 years and she also retired from the S.C. Dept. of Corrections. She attended Bogansville United Methodist Church and was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Kelly V. Lawson and husband Lynn; a son, Brad Valentine and wife Brooke; a sister, Debbie L. Eaves and husband Lynn all of Union and four grandchildren, Abbie and Carson Valentine, and Joseph and Harrison Lawson.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Bogansville United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Don Alexander, Mr. David Sinclair and Rev. Malachi Rodgers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the services.

Gerald T. “Jerry” Gregory
Mr. Gerald Thomas “Jerry” Gregory, Sr., of 111 Buckstone Lane in Spartanburg, passed on to God’s glory on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. He had recently celebrated his 72nd birthday. A native of Union, SC, he was preceded by his parents James and Maude Christie Gregory. Mr. Gregory was a retired store owner who loved to be outdoors. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC.
Surviving are his wife Mary Susan Wilburn Gregory of Spartanburg; his brother Jim Gregory and wife Joanne of Roebuck, SC; three children, Lisa Medlock of Union, Susan Nichols and husband Kevin of Rock Hill, SC, and Gerald Gregory and wife Mary of Raleigh, NC; a step-daughter, Leigh Chesno-Vallejo and husband Japhet of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren, Sarah Medlock, Lauren Queen and husband Jeff, Allen Medlock and wife Crystal, Bailey Nichols, Graham Nichols, Kylie Gregory, Walker Gregory, and Jonathan Vallejo.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Union conducted by Rev. Dale Rawlings.

Rose Thompson Chewning
Rose Thompson Chewning, 79, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 while resting comfortably at her home.
She was born March 9, 1937 in Manning, SC to the late Lester and Daisy Brunson Thompson. She was a graduate of Manning High School and Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Chewning was the wife of the late Reginald C. Chewning and they made Union their home since 1958.
Mrs. Chewning was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Circle #2. She was a past president and sustaining member of Union Junior Charity League. She was also a member of the Union Arts Counsel and Union Historical Society.
She worked as a registered nurse for many years and was an avid bridge player.
In addition to her late husband she was preceded in death by a son Reginald (Reggie) Chewning, Jr.
Surviving her are a son Kenneth D. Chewning, 51, of Union and her beloved daughter-in-law Karyn (Chewning) Taylor and and her husband Jeffrey Taylor and their two daughters, Katie Rose and Caroline Michelle Taylor of Mount Pleasant, SC.
Anyone wishing to pay their respects, may do so Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th , at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home between the hours of 9:00 until 5:00 PM.
She will be layed to rest at a private graveside service conducted by Reverend Keith Morrison of the First Presbyterian Church.
